His Pretend Amish Bride is the second book in Rachel J. Good's Unexpected Amish Blessings series, and can easily be read as a standalone. The story follows Priscilla Ebersol, a kindhearted and feisty special needs teacher who is looking forward to marrying her boyfriend - that is until his humiliating betrayal ruins her reputation and threatens her job, and Gabriel Kauffman, a shy camel farmer who has just moved into the community. Priscilla has done research on the benefits of camel milk for autistic children and decides to go to Gabe's farm to purchase some for her autistic brother. There's an immediate connection between the two and they become great friends. But what Priscilla doesn't know is that Gabe's past is haunting him, and as their friendship develops into something more, he starts pulling away from her. Will he find the courage to tell her about his past? And more importantly, can he overcome it and have a future with her?
This was a very sweet and uplifting read, with a wonderful love story and believable characters. The strong chemistry between Gabe and Priscilla combined with a touch of mystery will keep readers engaged until the last page. I liked the message of trusting God for the next step. We need to pray and be patient for things only happen in His timing, not ours. This story also shows us how damaging gossip can be, especially when we don't have all the facts. I really liked Alyssa's storyline as well and thought it was very inspiring. Overall, this was a lovely story of faith, forgiveness, and love. I highly recommend it and look forward to the third book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If you’re like me, you may not have noticed the camel on the cover of His Pretend Amish Bride right away. In fact, I didn’t notice it until I was putting this post together, after I’d read the book. But let me assure you that you aren’t seeing things – that IS in a fact a camel on the cover, and camels do factor prominently in this sweet Amish romance set in Pennsylvania. I also had never really heard of camel farming or all the benefits of camel milk before I read Good’s latest novel, and now I’m fascinated!
I loved Priscilla and Gabe together! Their instant connection deepens into a tender friendship that just made my heart smile. And while the more overt focus is on Priscilla being the perfect helpmeet for Gabe, even before they address their growing affection for one another, I enjoyed watching Gabe fill that role for Priscilla too in slightly more subtle ways. The fact that each of them are facing a ruined reputation for separate reasons – caused by other people’s betrayals – drew some interesting parallels that I also thought Good did well. And oh how I fell in love with both of these characters along the way!
Bottom Line: His Pretend Amish Bride surprised me (pleasantly) in several different ways – from a camel farm in Amish country to a faith thread that came from an unexpected (but delightful!) source to a bit of a sucker-punch twist that I really did not see coming and even to the way the title factors into the story differently than I originally thought it would. This kept the reading experience fresh and intriguing for me and had me turning the pages, fully absorbed in the story, from start to finish. Great characters that avoid becoming stereotypes or one-dimensional, a quaint & somewhat unique setting, and engaging writing make this a must-read for fans of Amish fiction. Very much looking forward to the next book!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
This book was a page turner for sure for me! At first, I was simply shocked at the way Priscilla and her father decided to handle Matthew’s indiscretion. I felt so sorry for Priscilla and the way she was being treated.
Then, I was captivated by the story line involving Gabe. Once again, at first I was shocked at how much trouble Gabe had taking a stand for his business and I was frustrated with him. However, this opened up a great opportunity for Priscilla to help Gabe and his business. There was definitely an attraction that began to brew between these two, however, Gabe seemed determined to keep his distance emotionally.
So many interesting things happened in this novel including the threat to Gabe’s business, the situation with Matthew, and the hope of a romance between the two main characters. It kept me eagerly turning the pages. After reading the first couple of chapters for the next book, which were included at the end of this one, I am really looking forward to seeing what happens with that story, as well.

His Pretend Amish Bride is the second book written by Rachel J. Good in her amazing series, Unexpected Amish Blessings. This book is filled with so many emotions: indiscretions, betrayal, dishonesty, secrets, love, and forgiveness. The characters are very likeable and realistic. This story is fast moving and definitely keeps the readers interest. The author once again starts her amazing with such a bang the readers will definitely keep reading
Priscilla who is planning a picnic with Matthew(who she believes to be her intended) when the bishop shows up and delivers some very unsettling news. This leaves Priscilla stunned and confused. As she is trying to make sense of what she has learned Matthew appears with more devastating news and an unrealistic request. This sets the tone for this fantastic story. So many secrets, lies, and betrayal that Priscilla takes a much needed break and goes to visit a new camel farm to purchase milk for her autistic brother. When she meets Gabe she is drawn to him but is unable to figure out why. Gabe is everything Priscilla wants in a husband but he too is harboring a secret. When Priscilla and Gabe keep getting thrown together because some deceitful people are trying to destroy his business, they discover they have feelings for each other. When secrets are revealed those feelings have to be put behind them. This story has so many twist and turns you will think nothing can be set to rights but as it plays out it is an incredible read. I enjoyed this story so much.
I did receive and advanced ebook copy of this book from the author and Netgalley with no expectations to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
Congratulations to Rachel J. Good on releasing another incredible story filled with love, compassion, and forgiveness for her readers enjoyment.
His Pretend Amish Bride by Rachel J. Good has Priscilla Ebersol preparing a picnic lunch to enjoy with her beau, Matthew King. She is surprised to find Bishop Troyer at the door, and he delivers some upsetting news that could cause Priscilla to lose a job she loves. Needing to get out of the house, Priscilla heads to the new camel farm. Gabe Kauffman has just moved to Bird-in-Hand with his camels. Priscilla has done research on the benefits of camel milk for autistic children, and she wants to purchase some her for brother, Asher. Priscilla finds that she can share with Gabe what has happened without worry that he will share with others. When a pushy Englischer tries to bully Gabe into selling his farm, Priscilla is there to assist Gabe. He finds it difficult to talk in front of large crowds and when faced by an angry, bullying individual. The man assumes Priscilla is Gabe’s wife with the way she defends Gabe and his business. This sets the tone for the rest of the story. I enjoyed reading His Pretend Amish Bride. It is a cute story with romance, secrets, betrayal, theft, bullying, and gossip. I liked the characters in this story. I thought they were developed and realistic. The book is well-written with a good flow and pacing. I was unaware of the benefits of camel milk until I read this story. It was interesting learning about camel farming. I enjoyed the side stories in His Pretend Amish Bride because they added depth and interest. There is also humor sprinkled throughout. The Amish characters had deep faith and were wonderful examples to others. Priscilla helps a woman find Jesus which I thought was inspiring. I appreciated the epilogue which nicely wrapped up the book. His Pretend Amish Bride was a delightful story, and I am eager to read the next Unexpected Amish Blessings novel. My favorite line from His Pretend Amish Bride is, “Mamm says worrying isn’t trusting God.” His Pretend Amish Bride is a charming Amish tale with an unethical Englischer, missing milk, rampant rumors, galling glossophobia, a major misunderstanding, and camel curiosity.
This is the second book in this series that I have read, but it really can be read alone. We meet the characters from the previous read, but information is given. This is a sweet story of people really living their faith, and actually touching the lives of others to bring them closer to God. We see both of the main characters with a heart for children and wanting to do all they can to help. We also see the greed of some who don't care whom they hurt. I enjoyed reading how this all played out, and throw in a little very sweet romance, and this is one enjoyable read! I received this book through the Publisher Kensington Books and was not required to give a positive review.
Researching how to help autistic children hardly fits the Amish lifestyle, yet Priscilla Ebersol finds herself dedicated to the task. Working with special needs children is indeed her gift, however, scandal nearly proves to be her undoing. Priscilla is finding that camel's milk has benefits that woulld aid these children, and that means working alongside Gabriel Kauffman.
Gabriel is working hard with his camel farm, but the attention of an Englisch company is not the distraction that he needs. In fact, when Priscilla happens to be in his shop at a cvertain time, she finds herself playing a very specific role. There are concerns about the camel's milk and Gabriel's shop, and Priscilla's intuitive nature proves to be of value to him.
Although quite drawn to one another, the two have baggage that just might get in the way of a happy future together. Will working together, bonding in their faith and building a strong friendship be enough to bring these gentle souls together?
I love this Amish story! I have reaad more than a few, including the first book in this series, including His Unexpected Amish Twins, and I know going in that I will be drawn to a very good story, especially when it involves a deeper subject, like autism in this case of this book. I look forward to the next book in this series.
Many thanks to Zebra and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is an engaging story with characters that faced excruciating hurts and betrayal. Priscilla cared deeply as a teacher for special needs children, including he autistic brother. Gabriel was new to the area with his camel farm and store. Priscilla knew the benefits of camel milk for autism children and went to Gabe’s store after Matthew gave her the shock of her life. She was surprise how an Englischer was portraying herself to Gabe. There was a connection between Priscilla and Gabe with their interest in camel milk benefits to special need children. The pressure to sell his farm to another Englischer and falsified reports brought more drama than Gabe could face alone. Priscilla and her caring ways gave way to opportunities for Gabe to move forward but he had to face the past.
The interwoven drama between the Amish and Englisch, hidden secrets, truth revealed, budding romance, and a God that is always present to provide new beginnings gave this story the winsome qualities I appreciate in Amish fiction. I look forward to the next book in Rachel J. Good’s Unexpected Amish Blessings series.
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Kensington Book and was not required to write a positive review. I have shared my own opinion.
Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review “His Pretend Amish Bride”, by Rachel J. Good (Kensington Books/Zebra), is a sweet romance with a shy, tortured hero, afflicted by an unusual condition. Gabe is an attractive character: a dynamic, hard working farmer, yet afflicted by some issues and fears, not very often fictionalized. I found this very original and refreshing. Priscilla is such a giving person, and her personality seems the right fit to encourage Gabe. I enjoyed their relationship and how they supported each other. This was a nice read about a different world (the Amish community); as the story progresses, it becomes too predictable, and some aspects (the changes in the journalist) seem abrupt and far-fetched.
Ms. Good is not your typical Amish romance writer. She develops unique and strong story lines, real-to-life characters and an engaging voice that draws the reader in. This story includes a pretend wedding and camels, plus a couple special children.
Fans of Ms. Good will want to read HIS PRETEND AMISH BRIDE. There is drama, secrets, and romance. Don't miss this book!
I love reading Amish books. I love them because some like this one teaches us that the Amish are not perfect in any means. They have gossips just like we do and gossips hurt. I don't like gossips. Therefore I really didn't a few of the characters in this story. I don't like people who think they're better than others. The Amish are a fascinatig people. I love their simple way of life. I'm sure it's not easy! I admired Pricilla. She's got spunk that's for sure! I don't think I could have done what she's done so easily but of course that's why I love fiction. She's a really cool character. My heart went out to Gabe in this story. Strong shy Gabe. He reflects the way I used to be so I could connect with him more easily. Such a sweet man. I enjoyed in getting to know him. Yes, God can and does work in mysterious ways only He know. In His own timing of course. We need only to ask and keep prayer in our lives. He may not answer the way we'd like Him to but sometimes He answers in ways that are best for us. I'm guilty of not prayers because we get so caught up in our lives that we tend to forget Him. I'm going to try and be better at it. Good has written an extraordinary story of love, courage and life's lessons in the mix. Her books are written with gentle reminders that God is always near and that He loves us no matter what. I enjoy her books and I try never to miss one. I finished this one in two days because I wanted to savor it. I highly recommend it. My thanks to Netgalley and Kensington for a complimentary copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
A betrayal causes turmoil and sadness between families. Keeping secrets leads to more misunderstandings. When the truth is revealed, lives will be changed forever. I enjoy reading stories about the Amish people. This is a good one. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
This was a very sweet book. And It had all The ingredients I expect from an amish fiction book, strong family ties, sweet and clean romance. But it also dealt with special need children, herbal medicine and It deals with frauds. and going back to your childhood belief. Thank you to netgalley for this e arc in exchange for an honest review
Although it’s been several years since I’ve been there, one of my favorite day-trips is visiting Sugarcreek and Berlin, Ohio, known where I live as simply Amish Country. Something that surprised me within the last decade or so was the growing market of Amish organic and specialty products, as I did not associate these with the Amish people. I suppose that I never gave much thought to them needing gluten-free, dairy-free, or other specialty items because their lifestyle and diet seems in my mind to be healthier and relatively free of chemical ingredients. This is part of the reason that I loved “His Pretend Amish Bride” so much. It made me think and opened my eyes to the similarities between their culture and ours.
Rachel Good always writes an absorbing story that I find difficult to put down and often end up reading in a few sittings. Whether intentional or not, I think that “His Pretend Amish Bride” releases at the perfect time because it highlights how much we actually have in common with the Amish, rather than how different we are, dispelling the large-scale “us vs. them” mentality that is currently tearing our nation apart. This was the first time I had heard of camel’s milk and it being used for those with specific health conditions, particularly autism. I find this information fascinating and exciting because it is a natural alternative. I also had no idea that the Amish might own camel farms, or that such places even existed in the US, for that matter! The issues that Gabriel Kauffman faces with his camel farm due to problems with Englishers demonstrate that the Amish are not immune to being taken advantage of either. Their approach, however, to such situations and to life in general, is often much different from ours, although it shouldn’t be. We should also seek to live at peace with others and to do what is right, whether we end up benefiting from it or not, and we should learn to trust God more instead of trying to take control ourselves.
This novel offers a heartfelt glimpse at romance and special needs, also. As Priscilla tells Alyssa, the Amish aren’t perfect either and need Jesus just as much as everyone else, including us. Good points this out to readers right from chapter one with Matthew’s betrayal, but goes on to show how one can still respond out of God’s love. I loved that Priscilla works at an Amish special needs school, which is something else that I did not realize existed, and the inclusion of the hippotherapy program (which is the focus of book one in this series) toward the end of the narrative tied in nicely. All of the elements that Good incorporates blend into a beautiful story about how God uses what seems to be our darkest moments to bring our greatest joys when we trust Him and live to honor Him.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
I learned a few things about Camel farming in this Amish Romance. Gabriel Kauffman is starting a new path to keep a promise that is close to his heart and conscience. Starting a camel farm near his brother's house, he is able to have the support of his decision to start this new endeavor. He is passionate about the health benefits of camel's milk to his community. On his first day setting up his store front, he meets Priscilla Ebersol. She has an autistic younger brother and teaches in the special needs children in her community. Of course when these two meet, they have more in common than the health benefits of camel's milk.
Priscilla is going thru a difficult break up that has caused her humiliation and gossip even among the people closest to her. She guards the details of the break up in order not to bring undue shame to others. This drives Gabriel and Priscilla closer together but it is their commitments that keep them from not going further. Even with their promises of the past, they stand up for each other in difficult times.
The romance between the two was a process of spiritual growth that involved faith and the perils of gossip. I would love to know more about Camel's milk and if I ever have the opportunity like try it for myself. Apparently it has many benefits.
A Special Thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
His Pretend Amish Bride examines the eagerness to spread rumors and the damage that occurs from gossip. but it is also a story of believing in God and fully trusting in His plan for our life. Priscilla Ebersol is betrayed by her boyfriend, falsely accused of things that she didn't do, and even judged by her own mother, but this sweet, compassionate young woman doesn't react in a negative way. Instead, she chooses to forgive and to help others who are dealing with their own struggles.
"Sometimes what appears heartbreaking is only God's way of moving us to a new and better place."
Author Rachel J. Good has written a wonderful story of faith in God and trust in His plan and there is also the promise of a sweet love story between Priscilla and Gabriel Kaufmann. If you enjoy Amish fiction and Christian romance, you will certainly want to read His Pretend Amish Bride.
I received a copy of this book from the author via Celebrate Lit. There was no obligation to write a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.
An Amish camel farm??? I have never heard about camel milk for therapeutic treatment, but author Rachel Good almost always teaches me something new in her books. I knew this story was going to be good and it certainly was.
I loved both main characters. Priscilla is feisty and stands up for herself and her friends. Gabriel is shy and quiet. Yet both are battling hurts from unjust accusations and situations. I enjoyed how their faith and trust in God and each other grew as they spent time together. And defended each other. Rachel’s mother, as a secondary character, was a piece of work. She made me laugh in an “I can’t believe this” kind of way but I still wanted to shake her.
If you enjoy Amish fiction that has spiritual truths as characters overcome, and of course a sweet clean romance, then you’ll enjoy this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Rachel Good is a wonderful Amish author, and I very much enjoyed reading this book. I loved the character of Priscilla, and thought her patience through a trying time was amazing. She showed much more grace than I would have in such an unfair situation. She had to put her trust in God and the support she received from her dad. There’s some lessons for all of us in this book about being a supportive friend; rejecting gossip; and trusting God to handle a difficult situation in His timing. Gabe is also facing a difficult situation, and it takes Priscilla’s faith and trust to help him find the answers that he’s seeking.
This book has a strong theme of faith, hope, and love. It’s a beautiful story of never relinquishing trust in God during the difficult times. If you’ve never read one of Rachel Good’s books, take a look at this one. I know you’ll enjoy it!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Priscilla finds herself and her reputation in trouble when her boyfriend betrays her. She pours herself into trying to help her brother with his autism by visiting the new local camel farmer to purchase his camel milk. But will she get more than camel’s milk in the end?
I don’t recall ever reading a book about camels milk, and I have to say this was an interesting read. I enjoyed reading Priscilla and Gabe’s knowledge on camels and camel’s milk. And I soon fell in love with these two. And as usual for one of Rachel Good’s stories, there are twists and turns that will keep you reading until the story ends. I didn’t want to put it down, but had to a few times! The characters, both the ones I like and don’t like so well came to life as they told their stories. I love when characters are so realistic they feel like friends. The news reporter was a really nice addition to this story, adding a different twist, and Ms. Good handled this with much respect for the Amish in general. And it was especially nice for some of the characters in the previous book to make an appearance in this book.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
I have just read the most interesting book. HIS PRETEND AMISH BRIDE His Pretend by Rachel J. Good is an exceptional book in her Unexpected Amish Blessings series.
Priscilla Ebersol is a special-needs assistant teacher and looking forward to her marriage to Matthew that is until his humiliating betrayal ruins her reputation and threatens the very thing she loves most, her job.
Enters Gabriel Kauffman, a Camel farmer that has just moved into the community.
Priscilla’s younger brother, Asher, has autism and Priscilla has read of the benefits of camel’s milk as a calming agent to an autistic child. Thus, a friendship starts to develop between Priscilla and Gabriel.
When a battle occurs between an Englisher and Gabe, Priscilla is there to help and is mistaken for Gabe's wife.
Although their bond deepens, Gabe is holding back for some reason, but why?
Follow this adventure and you will not only learn many interesting details about Camel’s milk, but you will be so caught up in the story, you will not want to put it down.
This title will be released on June 30, 2020. Pre-order yours today.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Kensington.
Rachel J. Good seems to always warm my heart with her heart warming Amish romance stories. His Pretend Amish Bride was an adorable Sunday read for me. The faith was strong and the love was whole. Great read!
His Pretend Amish Bride ( Unexpected Amish Blessings Book 2 ) By: Rachel J. Good His Pretend Amish Bride is book two in Unexpected Amish Blessings series. This is a story of hurt, love, and courage. Priscilla and Gabe’s story. Pricilla and Gabe both have been hurt and betrayed. A farmer who raises camels and sells the milk. A woman who is a teacher for special children in her school. These two are keeping secrets and where will it lead them. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley and the author, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are men own.
I love the fact that Priscilla works with special needs children. I felt like I was on a roller coaster with my emotions. I loved this Amish story and I will be reading more from this author.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and Kensington Publishers for my honest review.
An absolutely lovely and charming story of Priscilla and Gabe. Very clean, this story is of Priscilla, a young Amish woman that teaches special children in her school. She has read of studies about the effect of camel's milk with autistic children like her brother, Asher. She discovers a new farmer that sells camel's milk nearby, but when she meets the owner, she isn't prepared for his youth and good looks. They begin a friendship, but he keeps himself withdrawn. His past keeps him from allowing himself to draw closer to her, even though he has definite feelings for her. Excellent story I would recommend to anyone who likes a good love story!
Great book! The story line is sweet and the tension between the characters leaves you excited for the ending! I definitely have a newfound respect for camel’s milk!
Why is it that we don't give ourselves credit? This is common whether you are Amish or an Englisher. Priscilla could do so much for others but is hesitant to stand up for herself. Gabriel hated speaking in front of others. He had no problem if it meant protecting someone he cared about.
Priscilla was trying to stay strong and be faithful. She handled her heartbreak by prayer and trusting GOD had a plan. Gabriel thought he had a plan but GOD knew differently.
An interesting twist to this story is the camel milk farm Gabriel owns. I never heard of drinking camel milk. What an interesting sight it would be? You are driving down a country road and you see a bunch of camels in the field. I think I would be drawn to go into the store and try it. Would you?
I enjoyed visiting characters that were in a previous book: His Unexpected Amish Twins.
I received this free to review from Celebrate Lit.

More from Rachel A few years ago, I passed Amish camel farm in Bird-in-Hand, PA. As an author, seeing anything new or different always piques my interest, so I went for a visit. Not only did I explore the farm and store, I bought camel’s milk to drink. I think it’s important to do in-depth research for the settings and information I include in my Amish novels.
I was fascinated to discover camels usually bond to one milker, only give a little milk each day, and are extremely expensive to buy. All of those are reasons why camel’s milk is so expensive. It costs $15 for a pint. Much pricier than cow’s milk.
And if you’re wondering how camel’s milk tastes, the best way I can think of to describe it is a slightly salty version of powdered milk. It’s more watery than cow’s milk.
Because I grew up drinking powdered milk during my early childhood years when we lived in Africa, I’d always vowed never again to drink it once we moved back to the United States. A vow I’ve kept. That was never a problem living in Pennsylvania, where there’s plenty of farmland, cow, and Amish, of course.
The camel’s milk was enough like powdered milk to make me gag. But because I want to be sure my books are authentic, I drank it. So, readers, now you know how much a I care about you.
My concern for you also extends to more than just getting factual information correct. I pray for each and every one of you as I write my stories. I liked the general premise of this story, but I never felt fully connected to Priscilla. She was too easily manipulated into letting her ex get away with what he did. I was glad when the ex finally made things right and Priscilla got her HEA, although the end felt a little rushed.
When the bishop accused her of indiscretions with her long-time boyfriend that she didn't commit, she was stunned into silence. As if discovering her boyfriend's betrayal wasn't enough pain, having him ask her to cover for him just added insult to injury. Yet Priscilla knew that if word got out, he would lose his job - and his ability to provide for his widowed mother. Not fully realizing the cost of silence, she agreed. . .
I was stunned by Priscilla's mother's reaction to the gossip and rumors that flew! That she not only didn't trust her daughter's integrity but wouldn't even listen to her pleas of innocence broke my heart. And then to have her continue to try to push her back to Matthew. Ouch!!
I did love the way Gabe, despite being a stranger, cared so deeply for Priscilla's well-being. He was shy and struggled with speaking to strangers, especially groups of them. That he cared enough to step out of his comfort zone was such a beautiful picture of sacrifice - and this before he even realized how much he cared about her! I also enjoyed the ways Priscilla rescued him - to the point that more than one person assumed she was his wife, and thus the title of the story.
Learning more about camels and uses of camel milk was very interesting. I had no idea that it could be therapeutic for so many different conditions. If you have read other stories by Rachel J. Good, you may know that a number of them deal with special-needs children in the Amish community. Priscilla had discovered camel milk as a possible help for her autistic brother and learned so much about it that she was a bit passionate about helping others discover it as well.
It was enjoyable to read of the tentative relationship between Gabe and Priscilla as they were drawn to each other though each had reasons not to try to allow it to grow.
The author's heart for sharing her faith in Jesus overflowed into having Priscilla share her faith with the reporter who came to write an article about Gabe's business. I appreciated the clear, concise message of God's forgiveness, shared in a relatable and non-preachy manner.
His Pretend Amish Bride is a fun book for those who enjoy Amish fiction with a bit of mystery and romance.
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
This is one story you don’t want to miss if you are a fan of Amish Fiction. The author has written a book that will stay with me forever. The characters are very well developed and made me want to be their friend. Priscilla has such a sweet spirit around her. She teaches children with special needs and you can tell right away how much compassion she has for them. Her brother is autistic and she is always looking for ways to help him. Gabriel is a good nan who has a very unique farm. I knew little to nothing about camels until I read this book. I am in awe of the vast information the author has included in the story. It is interesting to know that camel’s milk can benefit those with autism. I will admit I didn’t know camels were able to produce milk that people wanted to buy. Their milk is not cheap and after reading the process of getting milk from them I can understand why. Priscilla finds herself in the midst of a scandal with her now ex-boyfriend. It is admirable that she will not say anything against him even though his lie could ruin her reputation. The Amish are well know for forgiving others and this story is an illustration of how they apply that to their daily lives. Their faith is strong and I loved how the characters never faltered from their belief in God. I liked the part of the story when someone threatens to destroy Gabriel and his farm if he doesn’t sell to them. I had to pause for a moment and let that sink in. Greed is out there and it slithers in with deceit, lies and jealousy to get what it wants. Gabriel will depend on Priscilla to help him through this storm. I liked how Priscilla never once strayed from believing in Gabriel and stood up for him when rumors started running through the community. I have to take a moment to applaud the author for a very important part in the story. We never know when an opportunity will rise to share our faith. Priscilla without any hesitation shares her faith with someone that made me cry. This person will have a God moment that is so powerful it must be mentioned. If you get nothing else from this story, you will see how God gives us divine appointments to witness to others. The story mainly focuses on the camel farm but there is a budding relationship that may blossom if Gabriel can share his past. Priscilla has been hurt once before . She will have to decide if she is willing to trust again and allow her heart to love. I have read several books from this author, but I have to say this one will always be my favorite. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Gabriel Kauffman has bought a farm where he is raising camels and selling their milk. He's researched the benefits of camels' milk and wants to make a go of selling the milk to families who could use the milk for their own health.
Priscilla Ebersol is an assistant to the teacher of the special needs school in her Amish community. She loves being there because she loves helping the special needs children--especially her brother, Asher, who is autistic. She has been dating Matthew for about a year when she finds out that he's been having relationship behind her back with his boss's daughter, Mara. And it seems that Matthew and Mara have been caught in a compromising situation, but Mara looks enough like Priscilla that the people in their community assume it was Priscilla in the orchard with Matthew. When Matthew comes forward for confession, he does not clear up Priscilla's name, and lets the church assume the worst about her.
Gabriel's farm and dairy operations are assaulted by unscrupulous business owners who want to put Gabriel out of business and make a fair try at it by calling in the Food and Drug Administration inspectors to try to shut down Gabriel's farm. Much of the book revolves around the inspection and the help Priscilla gives Gabriel to work through the inspection and the help she gives him for the school field trip she has set up for the horse therapy farm her friend Hope has.
I am finding I like Rachel J Good's writings books better than some of the other Amish fiction authors. Her characters are human beings with flaws and foibles, and her settings are true to form for where the stories are located.
The Pretend Amish Bride is a five star book, with two thumbs up, and a free pint of camel's milk.
Kensington Publications and NetGalley.com provided the galley I read for this review. All opinions expressed are my own.
