I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

This was a nice diverting thriller, but maybe a little weak in the middle. There was a little paranormal in it. There was a romance that was sweet and one that wasn't.

It kind of felt like the author was setting this up to be the start of a series and I would not mind that one bit.

Trigger warning:
Corpse abuse. Yuck.

Nicole Blake has a new gift .. or curse. She can look at a photograph and see it move .. showing moments before, during, and after the picture was taken. She has no idea where this ability came from, but she finds this a way to entertain her friends at parties.

Detective Paul Hammond has his hands full. He's investigating a series of murders ... at least they are presumed to be murders. An arm from one is found .... a torso from another. Multiple victims, multiple body parts. When Hammond learns of Nicole's ability, he immediately enlists her help.

Carl Kadner is a rookie reporter who is also looking into the murders .. with the help of an anonymous source.

It's going to take all three of them to find this serial killer and why no one seems to be able to find him. No witnesses, no clues, no DNA ...

This paranormal suspense grabbed me from the first page. What the killer does with the 'spare' parts left over from his crime spree is horrifying. I liked the character of Nicole .. she handles her new skill with aplomb, even though it baffles her. Hammond kind of grew on me.... I loved his wearing of tennis shoes with his suits. Carl is a young man trying to make his mark on the world and this story he's investigating may cost him not only his job, but his life, as well.

This was promo'd in facebook and once I saw the cover, I immediately ordered. This is not a new author to me, and I am going to take the opportunity to read his Ethan Tennant series.

Good premise: Needed editing

There were too many punctuation & grammatical errors. Also, in one paragraph about Will, the author substituted “Paul’s” name in error. Words like: it, to, the, were left out of sentences. It really was a good idea for a story & I would read more by this author but only if it was properly edited.

After I got over the brutal murder, I couldn’t help but laugh at Paul as he faces his day. He is definitely not a morning person and I can relate. Neither am I. I like that he wears sneakers with his suits. Makes sense to me. I laugh along with his police partners as they poke fun at him, like only true friends can do.

Nicole is just hanging out with her best friend, while the power is out due to a snowstorm, when her gift comes to light.

HE is pure evil. How does he choose his victims? I’ll leave that up to you to find out, but it is not what your run of the mill serial killer would he. He is brutal, savage. He is a real sicko.

Nicole’s ability is developing and she has no idea how intense it will get. She can feel the victim’s pain, live through their death. .I know she will get involved in the investigation and now I know how and why.

When Paul and Nicole meet, something zaps between them. Big surprise, right? (said sarcastically) I don’t mind knowing some of the story beforehand,, just as long as the author throws in a surprise or two. I love the scene where Nicole is getting dressed for their date. Simone is helping her and she does need the help. I love her BFF.

It’s easy to see how Carl, the reporter becomes involved. Investigating is not a nine to five, sit at your desk job. He goes out in the field. He wants to be a REAL reporter. He even dresses the part in a thrift store suit that makes me think of the film noir PI’s.

I love the dark, black as night thrillers and this qualifies. The murders are gruesome, grisly, overkill, mutilations beyond your imagination. Then…comes the autopsy description that takes it to another level of upchucking ugliness. The more grossness Perry Prete feeds me, the hungrier I get. BUT, I do like fun and smiles with my murder mysteries and he does supply that too, along with dialogue and easy banter between the characters.

Oh man, the hospital scene. Caught me by surprise, but Nicole is not afraid and I love it. NOW IT’S INTENSE…my thoughts run riot, I want to scream and yell, my heart beats a little faster, my eyes devour the words faster, the pace of the novel picks up, the suspense mounting.

The ending…..FANTASTIC.

Seriously needs an editor!

This author seriously needs an editor! He changes verb tense every other sentence and sometimes even in the same sentence. It was very aggravating! The premise of the story wasn't bad, and I liked the characters, except for the profanity they spout too often. Also, FYI Mr. Perry Prete, women friends don't get naked and climb into the bathtub to hold and comfort each other just because one of them is upset! What kind of male fantasy world are you living in?!

Detective Paul is a likable and relatable character. My first impression of him was that he was a curmudgeon but that quickly passed. It was just due to aging that Paul was a bit rough around the edges. Yet, once I did really get familiar with him, he was a likable guy. Additionally, he is good at his job. Nicole was also likable. Plus, the abilities that she possessed were intriguing. Her ability really came in handy with helping to solve the case. Yet, when it came to Carl; I have to say that I almost forgot about him. He was kind of nonexistent for the first half of the story. The second half Carl came out stronger.

Due to the likeability that I had with the characters and the fact that the killer had a strong presence as well in the story, this was a really good read. It was also a quick read. No real down time for me. The killings were gruesome but not so much detail was spent that the weak at heart would still like this book. There is even some romance that budded between Paul and Nicole. Again, not a lot of details were spent on their romance as to not distract from the overall story. This book is a recommended read. I would read more books from this author.

This was a funny book (not ha ha) I kept going over paragraphs to reread to make sure I had read it properly it was very detailed, I don’t think I want to know someone is sitting on the toilet. And did it mean when Paul had put his clothes in the dryer for a spin at Nicole’s after spending the night he wanted to get the creases out. Don’t think that I would want to read detective Paul Hammond again didn’t really like him and why would a young girl be interested in middle aged overweight cop or him interested in a young girl which could be his daughter. Talking of that why the mystery and why on earth wouldn’t he call his daughter for month’s, the ending was daft with Katie turning into a lunatic all of a sudden and Carl turning up at the cemetery, running around like a loose cannon the way the killer died ridiculous. And don’t even get me started on the grammar...............👎

The Mind's Eye

Lots of typos, needs a lot of editing, but still a good story. Lots of unanswered questions: how and/or why did Nicole develop her special talent? Overall the book seemed disconnected like the characters were shallow and not strong. But I read the entire book.

Though the overall story was great (sort of a twisted throwback to Criminal Minds and that now-defunct show, Medium) there was entirely too much foul language for my taste. As in nearly every other word was a four-letter one. Disappointed. As has been said before, vulgarity is no substitute for wit! Honestly would not recommend in good conscience.

I agree that the editing needed some work. That’s one of my pet peeves. Did enjoy the story and characters. Especially Paul. A little overweight, tormented by something with someone in his past, but doing the best he can. Loved, loved the ending. Keep on writing Perry Prete!!!

Paul is a middle-aged detective in a place that doesn't have much crime at all. Then, a dismembered arm in found in a snow bank, after that more body parts are unearthed. The crimes might be connected, but he has no idea how. With no real leads, Paul turns to Nicole, a guest at the same party as one of the victims. Nicole has developed a gift- she can see pictures move and can see the moments before and after. Nicole has kept her gift mostly a secret and plays it off as a parlor trick. Paul is desperate and Nicole is cute, so he asks her to use her gift on the victims photos. Carl is a crime reporter at a struggling newspaper and desperate for a good story. With some anonymous tips, Carl begins to put together the murders for himself and goes in deeper to the story than he should. Will is on a mission, he also has a special power that leads him to who he wants, but would never guess that Nicole is not far behind tracking his every move.

A unique murder mystery told through they eyes of three very different people trying to solve the crime as well as the murderer. It did take me a little while to get into the story as the first few chapters jump from different points of view to introduce characters. Nicole's gift reeled me into the story it was so distinctive and she seemed to have a bond with the women who were being taken as well as the murderer. Along with Nicole, Will's story drew me in. The scenes where Will was tracking, killing and dismembering were gruesome in detail. I was also intrigued by the insight into his mind and what he was seeing and feeling. The medical details of the writing were very accurate and detailed as well. The reasons why the killings were done was the real mystery here, and it was truly disturbing, but I'm glad Carl was able to get the details out of Will. The ending was thrilling and surprising as the cat-and-mouse game comes to an end, but not without a few twists. One thing that bothered me at the end was that the reason for Nicole's intense connection with Will was never explained. Overall, a thrilling, threatening and surprising murder mystery.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

I don't know what to say. The premise was very good, but the book needed heavy editing. Not only grammatically but also the basing of the book wasn't consistent. The last chapter is 40% of the book, which made reading it quite hard for me. The ending was quite shocking, yet I really didn't like it. The book was 3 stars for me until I read the last couple of pages and decided that I really should have dnfed it much earlier.

All the characters were unlikable in a way or another, but the damn reporter has annoyed me the most. He does whatever he wants, goes wherever he wants, which is really absurd.

The reason why I read English books is to improve my English language, this book was disappointing on many levels. The story is good, but ruined by lack of explanation of the gift that the female protagonist has and also by the weird and (illogical) ending. The grammar and the way of writing in general was quite bad. 2 stars, enough said.

The Mind's Eye is a Page Turner--Once You Settle Into the Story. I had a tough time settling entirely into the story until I finished almost the first third of the book. This disconnect may have been because I was reading in the library's homework tutoring area while my daughter volunteered and I wasn't as focused as usual. But--for quite some time, I couldn't mold all of the characters into their spots on my own. Once the author began to let the characters and the stories merge, build and take shape, I loved it. Even when I was having some trouble visualizing how and where everything was going early on--the characters, their personalities, and the developing story still kept me interested and ready to turn each page. As the story grew--and the suspense of the novel grew--I couldn't put down the book. There were enough twists and surprises to hold my interest all the way to the end.

The Mind's Eye Doesn't Sugar Coat the Evil. A lot of this novel is pretty graphic in detail--which should not be a surprise since it is about a serial killer. The author truly depicts many of the scenes with some very realistic imagery. As readers form bonds with the characters, the genuine threats of violence, the darkness and fear, and suspense create an excellent read. The author does an excellent job of keeping his characters a bit real and grounded with some realistic dialogue, properly placed humor and sarcasm. The author creates a pretty dark story in The Mind's Eye--and does an excellent job of keeping his characters real enough to keep the story believable and intense.

Would I Recommend The Mind's Eye by Perry Prete? I loved this book after the author brought all of his characters and pieces together and launched the full story. I enjoyed the characters and their dialogue--and the bonds that formed as the story grew. Prete gave readers a lot of insights into the world of the killer--but, was still able to offer surprises and suspense. If you enjoy a unique murder mystery / serial killer thriller--with a paranormal gift, a lot of graphic, crime scene details--and a solid storyline with real surprises and suspense--I would certainly recommend The Mind's Eye. If you feel a little disconnected during the beginning chapters--give it time. The author pulls it all together quite well, and you will be glad you kept reading!

I received a copy of this book from the author for use in a blog review. All opinions are my own.

This is the story of an investigation done by Paul Hammond and other detectives about a few missing girls. The girls were dead with some parts removed and cut surgically in a barbaric way. Paul, Dan, and Ken are the detectives working on the case for more than 6 months but without much clues or leads to find the criminal.

Fortunately, Paul meets 'Nicole' who is gifted with a talent through which she can learn the events happened at the time of the picture taken by just seeing the picture of anyone. She helps Paul a lot in giving clues about the murderer. Carl is a young reporter who investigates the missing girls' case on his own and he is par and above the police in finding the clues. How Police can catch the murderer? OR how Nicole can help in catching the murderer form the remaining story.

What I liked?

I really enjoyed the thrill part of the book. The suspense is great and the sequence of events slowly revealing each part of the puzzle is worth reading the book.

The characterization is good. Simmone is the best friend that everyone love to have. Katy is a unique personality being a law student and still encouraging crime. Carl though intelligent makes mistakes but works hard to write a good story for his paper. Sam is a protective father and a good person. Nicole is sensitive, helpful and very strong at the same time.

I love the cover of the book, which is very apt. The title is ok.

What might have been better?

There are some typos in the book - names interchanged here and there and some typos. They might have been avoided with proper editing.

I felt, there is still one piece missing - there is no indication in the book about Nicole's ability and why is she connected to Will and not to anyone else. I was expecting to read this connection at the end of the book and was disappointed as it was not covered.

Overall, this is wonderful on the edge thriller and I would recommend this to all crime thriller lovers.

My Rating: 4.5/5

The Mind's Eye by Perry Prete is a psychological thriller that will grasp you from the start and keep your attention the whole way through. Detective Paul Hammond is on a search for a serial killer who is attacking women and mutilating their bodies. Nicole Baker is a woman with a special gift of prescience. Carl Kadner is a new journalist hungry for his first big story. Chance (or fate, depending on how you look a it) brings all three characters together in a suspenseful situation as they race against the clock to locate and stop the killer.

This book reminded me of a twisted episode of the now defunct show, Medium, and Criminal Minds combined. The book starts off with the three main characters in disparate storylines. By the midpoint of the book, the reader is able to see how they will all come together to work the case. I was completely vested in learning about these characters and finding out who was responsible for these horrific crimes. Because of the content I consider this book very graphic. Prete does a great job offering descriptive scenes that the reader can truly picture. I think this is an indicator of a strong writer who can paint such vivid pictures with words. The story is complete and leaves the reader satisfied. I do have to admit, for a while, I was worried there might be a cliffhanger. However, the author kept me guessing till the very end but also provided a fulfilling conclusion.

While the story was tight, there were some typos that probably could have been resolved with more vigorous editing. My main issue with this book was the language. The author uses a lot of expletives and vulgar language that I did not care for, and I don't know that it really added to the story. I think it would have been just as strong without it. Also, I suspect because Prete has worked in the healthcare industry, he offered some technical jargon that slowed me down a bit. These issues were relatively minor and did not stop me from appreciating the novel.

Recommendation: If you're in search for a thriller that might have you looking over your shoulder as you walk to the car at night, I think you will enjoy this book. Be sure to pick up your copy today or enter the giveaway on my blog: bit.ly/PageBedtime until Sept. 29, 2018!

I skimmed other reviews before embarking upon this one but thought I'd give it a go, anyway.....next time I'll just believe people and not waste my time, because I can't say I wasn't warned.
It might be a great story-it sounded interesting, the cover is a super one but......he has no idea how to utilise a comma or semicolon or when to begin a new sentence. I give you...
"He felt something, something disturbing, he turned quickly and looked up" and (on the SAME page) "He scanned the apartment building to the one side of the parking lot, seeing nothing, he slammed the car door...." See what I mean ? He just slings in commas as opposed to beginning a new sentence and it is SO off-putting and distracting.
We also had a whole paragraph where he told us what Paul was getting up to and each new sentence he began with "Paul" as opposed to he.....we hadn't forgotten his name or thought he was suddenly referring to someone else !!!
I was only 2% into it, hit upon THIS passage, and being too breathless to continue I called it a day......read this to yourself.....you'll understand what I'm trying to describe:
"After a quick breakfast of oatmeal, Paul filled his thermos with coffee unplugged his two cell phones, one personal and the other his police-issued Blackberry, pocketed them, laced up his black running shoes (he refused to give into adulthood) he always wore with his suits, donned his parka, turned off the lights to the tiny porcelain Christmas tree in the hall and opened the front door"......and......breathe........christ, I was GASPING to myself after getting through that !! AND he wrote into as opposed to in to, which just succeeded in adding insult to injury !!
I downloaded this a couple of years back and there has been no further update so it really is published in this state. Sadly, I don't have the patience to keep trying to read something presented so terribly. Such a pity.

The Minds Eye is my first book by Perry Prete. The book was quite good. It did bounce around a bit and in some instances did not give you an explanation of what was going on so I kind of felt lost at times. For instance Paul has a picture of someone in his wallet. This person tries a few times to call and he keeps missing the call, instead of calling the person back like he thinks he should he just keeps waiting. Now this goes on over months, and when he does finally take the call, it just stops with him answering. Then you go back to waiting to find out who and why again. I did enjoy the book even with the mysteries in the mystery.

The true story in the book has nothing to do with the phone call. It is a Mystery Thriller. A young woman's dismembered arm is found in a snow back. Another woman is found murdered in her bedroom. Then a few months later a female torso is found in a suitcase by some trash cans. Paul Hammond a detective must figure out, who these women are, who killed them, are they connected, and why were they murdered.

Nicole is a office worker, she pick up a picture and in her minds eye she is able to see a psychic movie of the events surrounding the photo. She uses this as a parlor trick until one of the women who was at a party was murdered. Detective Hammond and his team decide to question her after other people who were at the party told them about her gift.

Nicole teams up with the detectives to help solve the crime. Paul brings her pictures from the crime scenes to get her reading on them. The only clues the police have are what Nicole provides. Hoping she can break the case and solve the crime

The Mind's Eye is quite a creepy read and my first book I have read by Perry Prete. Nicole Baker, a sweet and reserved young woman, who discovers a shocking talent of seeing events in motion by just looking at a single photograph. She soon becomes the life of the party when her friends find out her new talent. She, then is introduced to detective Paul Hammond. He asks her for help with unsolved murders that are connected. Nicole and Paul find they also need the local reporter, Carl Kadner, to help solve the case. Carl has been investigating the murders, as well. These three partners come into more danger than they would have ever expected.
The Mind’s Eye to me is a surprisingly great book. This is one of those thrillers that takes a reader to some dark places. I never knew what was going to happen on the next page. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride. I can not believe how it all came together in the end. This book definitely does not have a predictable plot. I finished it several days ago and still can not quit thinking about it.
I am give The Mind’s Eye a well deserved five plus stars. It is another reason why readers should give indie published books a try. I do want to caution readers that it is not for everyone. There is some disturbing scenes and foul language that may offend some. I was not too bothered by it and kept on reading.
I would love to see The Mind’s Eye on screen. It would be make a fabulous movie. I forward to more by Perry Prete in the future. Fabulous read!

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

Paul is a detective and is given the lead on a possible homicide case but all they have is a woman’s arm. There are no leads until another woman is killed, and a woman named Nicole suddenly has a gift with which she can look at a picture and see what happened when it was taken. She’s able to give some clues to the police.

As the serial killer continues to search for women who fit his criteria, Paul and Nicole fall into a relationship that seems to be good for both of them. The killer ends up in a relationship with a girl named Katy. It’s a strange relationship but it works for them.

Carl is a rookie reporter who is also on the case. He does some investigating on his own and always seems to be right there with the police investigation if not a little ahead of them.

I thought Mind’s Eye was good from the beginning. It kept my interest and was not only suspenseful and cringe-worthy but funny. All of the characters were well-developed and unique. There were a couple of unanswered questions which was a little frustrating but it still had a good ending. It would have been a faster and even better read if the dialogue had been edited. It was often difficult to know who was talking which slowed me down quite a bit. Despite the dialogue, I recommend Mind’s Eye.

The story was totally riveting. It is horror/ mystery/ sci fi and even a bit of romance. It also is possibly the worst editing I've ever stumbled through (and I read a LOT). I'd give it 5 stars because the STORY LINE is great and I totally didn't want to put it down. But there were so many grammatical errors that I found myself surprised when I suddenly read 3 pages that didn't have any. And that didn't happen often ... there were often 3 or more on a page. MANY of the errors were simply bulky sentences that would end up with 3 completely separate thoughts just all stuck together without so much as a comma. In the latter part of the book, there were far fewer issues (sometimes 9 to 10 pages without an error). The author has a bad habit of having sentences with 3 separate verbs in them. Often those verbs weren't all the same tense. There were times that I had to read sentences several times, to get the gist. One sentence had the following verbs: pulled, anchored, pulling, sending, crashing. But I stated that partly to give you the sense of ACTION that was constantly going on, lol. I don't tend to finish reading crap stories, and this was FAR from that. But wow ... I certainly hope he hires someone to edit for him. (Or hey ... Mr. Prete ... if you can see MY edits, feel free to make use of them, and thank you for an awesome thriller mystery.)

2.5?

Good idea, but the writing needs work. Every character is one dimensional. If they are supposed to be the grump, that’s all they are. If they’re supposed to be flippant, that’s all they are. The story seemed to drag for ever and not really go anywhere. A lot of the ‘it happened’, just seemed to jump in there rather than flow into the story. The time gaps didn’t always flow and I was left going back to check and see if I’d missed some kind of time marker. There was no real work on either romance (not that this was any kind of romance book), so they both just seemed to happen cause the writer wanted them there.

Weirdly, I felt like I was only shown the way thru this book with my head down and my blinkers on. It is weird, even to me. I assume it’s because there was very little ‘scenery’ maybe. Don’t need pages of descriptions at every turn, but looking back, I can’t remember many at all. I think it got a little better towards the end.

Nicole Baker was leading a quiet life until she realized she has a unique ability. She is able to see images move on photographs. Not sure what to do with her ability, she uses it at parties to entertain her friends. Her ability catches the eye of senior detective Paul Hammond, who requests her help on the case.

Carl Kadner is a rookie reporter at the local paper. Excited for his first big break, he investigates the murders. However, he realizes the only way to get a break is if he puts himself in danger. When Carl, Paul, and Nicole work together, will they be able to solve the mystery?

I found the book to be an interesting and thrilling read. I thought Nicole's ability of seeing moving pictures to be unique. Without giving anything away, I found the book to a great and exciting read!

What am incredible . ....

I picked up this incredible opportunity to read this book for free.....
When I first started reading it, I thought it was going to a similar story line.... However, I was very wrong.
I could relive or rather imagine how tough it was on Nic to have a give come to her as an adult and the ability to travel thru the mild of a killer...
I enjoy reading a story that has no need to describe the characters in full detail, but allows the reader to reinvent themselves and the characters to their own opinion....
The picture Paul was carrying around with him, but somehow the author held tight whom she was.....clever!
Their were a few errors, and that was the only thing I have to say that is slightly negative.. And honestly after the book had it hooks into me, they were a distant memory....
Awesome, and thank you for the chance to read your work...

I only gave this 3 stars as the authors style drove me a bit mad at times. For a lot of the book, especially early on there was a distinct lack of pronouns. When there was only one character in that part of the story every sentence started with his name.e.g. Paul walked into the room and picked up the book. Paul didn’t know who put it there but it was out of place. Paul sat down ... you get the idea. Sentence structure was short and under developed and there were also issues with tenses at times as well. “The police had not notice the 4th car following”, was one example. Felt it needed better proof reading. The plot started out quite interesting, who was murdering young women and taking body parts, and for what reason? However, the ending was a bit wishy washy. A shame as with a slightly more developed style of sentence construction it has the makings of a good story.

Recommended for those who like a good crime thriller!

Full of twists and unexpected turns, this tale of a serial killer and the people after him, detectives, a cub reporter, and a new psychic, will keep you on the edge of your seat! A great plot and real-feeling characters.
So why the two star rating? The author needs a good proofer. The book is full of errors: missing words, misused words, poor punctuation, etc. Eg, at the beginning of the book one character doesn't own a car, farther into the book the same character is driving her car everywhere she goes.
If you're a reader that isn't bothered by this type of thing, I strongly suggest you read this book.

There was a lot of vomiting. The supernatural part of the story was pretty good, but I felt the final ‘scene’, that last chapter was a bit chaotic and convoluted. I also thought some plot twists were a bit silly. The behaviour of the reporter seemed ridiculous and why did we need the character of Katy at all? Her twisted self was just too much. There were other nit picky details that I felt were missed by an editor, and a few sentences that needed fixing. Still, it was a page turner, and I don’t regret reading it. I just wish it had focused more on Nicole. Her character was the most interesting.

Nicole somehow comes up with the ability to read pictures and know what happened around the time the photo was taken. She ends up helping the police with their investigations into some murders. Some graphic stuff in this book but it was suspenseful and kept me tuned in. I was a bit disappointed in the ending and how all things ravelled out. Especially the surprises with young Katy! Did not see that coming! Not sure if it really fit or was necessary to the plot. It was entertaining for sure. However it was filled with so many errors in typing and grammar - no proof readers for this author?

The story takes place from November 13 to May 4, following three characters: Paul's career as a detective, Nicole's adjustment after she discovers she can see moving images in photos, and Carl's involvement as a reporter. Paul encounters Nicole and when he discovers how real and useful her ability is, Paul wants Nicole to help with a case he's currently investigating because they are at a standstill. It's a good concept and the story is for mature readers, featuring a lot of profanity and released anger. The story revolves around the characters' emotional state and their interaction.
