It took four and a half years but Ruby finally escaped her tormentors, yet now, years later, she is still haunted by the nightmares, the depression, the ping-ponging of emotions. Now another nightmare has come storming into her life, a rash of home invasions by sick and twisted minds who leave a trail of blood, torture, rape and murder in their wake and her home, her safe haven with three of her sisters has been violated.

Detective Judah Willow is on this case and finds he is attracted to the fragile and damaged Ruby. He understands her, because they have more in common than she knows. Should he ask her out or will it further terrorize her already fragile state? Sometimes love can heal, if you let it in and dare to trust your heart…

Jane Blythe is back, and CRUSHED RUBY may be one of her most well-rounded works yet! Prepare for Ms. Blythe’s raw and edgy style, to feel uncomfortable, sometimes chilled to the bone. Then prepare to feel the warmth of the delicate romance that is budding amidst the danger.

As always, intense and jagged, this one does not tread softly on our sensibilities, and the ending is pure emotional chaos as truths are revealed, but through it all, you will feel the healing of love and romance, in spite of it all!

Highly, highly recommended, powerful writing, mesmerizing reading!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Jane Blythe! This is my honest and voluntary review.

This is a series I cannot miss! I need to know what will happen next. I love the Hatcher sisters. My heart cries for them, but they do not give themselves a lot of credit. At first, I was thinking, wow they need a strong man to come in their life just to feel whole. Honest truth there. But then I took a second glance. This series is written by Jane Blythe after all, and I finally figured it out. These woman just needed unconditional love to finally see the truth. They are strong and they are beautiful inside out.

Crushed Ruby had the tears flowing. When Ruby felt hollow, my heart felt hollow. When she was lost in the dark, I was surrounded by the dark. When Judah came in, he shined through with his own ugly truth.

Ruby is so strong and has so much fight in her. Judah has battles that creep up. But with both of them together, they are warriors. These books are not for everyone as there are some really dark place Jane will take you. Just know, she has characters that will win you over and steal your heart. You can't help but fight right with them. I can't wait for Diamond's story next!

One thing I know I’ll always get with a Jane Blythe story is a rollercoaster of suspense and suspense intrigue. Ruby has had such a traumatic past that it still is very much in forefront of her present but what keeps her going is her sisters. Judah wants nothing more then Ruby but he knows it’s a slippery slope cause of her past but when he has to keep her safe all bets are off

After a tragic beginning, the heroine is going about her life like an automaton. It all takes a turn when she meets a detective her sister works with. During all of this, there are horrible crimes taking place. It was a good, suspenseful book full of romance. Anyone who likes romantic suspense will surely like this one.

OMG!! These poor girls have been through h*ll. Ruby is trying to cope with life after the horrible things that happened to her. Judah Willow is a detective investigating a rash of home invasions. He has been attracted to Ruby for a while now but doesn’t want to push her into something she’s not ready for. From the first page until the unpredictable ending Ms Blythe doesn’t hold back in this suspenseful and emotionally wrenching story. This author writes books that are raw and gritty and they are not for the faint at heart. There is also a lot of crazy thrown in but if your a fan you know this is normal.

Ruby and her four sisters had been sold to sex traffickers…by their parents. I can only imagine the terror and sense of betrayal they felt, knowing no one would be looking for them.

She was not a virgin, so there were no hands off signs on her and the kidnappers took advantage of that. She was a sex object. On call. Anything goes. She can’t say no. How many times can she let her mind go before she would never be able to get it back.

It had been four years and it still felt like yesterday when she would hang out with her friends doing things seventeen year old teens do. She especially missed her twin. She felt used up at 22. She didn’t care any more. No friends, no family. She’s done.

Four years…a chance at escape appears….and she takes it.

Seven years later and Sapphire, her sister is getting married. Even though one of them is still missing, Emerald, Ruby feels hopeful, though the biggest part of her life is lost in books, shelf after shelf, floor to ceiling books.

This took a twist I didn’t see coming. Jane Blythe is great at book surprises.

A Skull. A Black Cat. A Witch. A Ghost.

Judah and Zeb hadn’t been partners for long, but they clicked, working together seamlessly. The case they are working now is urgent, but will become more personal as the days pass and Judah will be more drawn to Ruby.

Ruby is still a prisoner…in her own mind. Will she be able to allow him entrance? Suicide calls to her. Will she ever be normal? She feels tainted, poisoned, unworthy. Ruby has no idea how strong she really is and when the time comes, will she be able to save herself?

I love when Ruby was reading, looking for a plot twist, because I was too. And I got it.

Jane Blythe writes some of the most suspense, nail biting, mind twisting romantic suspense novels and I am always eager to grab the next one. She doesn’t fail to give me more than I am expecting, and characters that I grow to love and worry and fret over.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Crushed Ruby by Jane Blythe.

What a rollercoaster of a ride you are taking on with this one. The first one was interesting. But this one was intense, had twists and turns you never show coming, moments you wanted to break down and cry and moments you wanted to swoon. I absolutely loved this one about Ruby and Judah.
Ruby was sold along with her sister when she was younger. She was held in this terrible situation for 4 years. She is now trying to rebuild her life when she is attacked at home. Thank god she gets to the safe room in her home before anything bad can happen. But this isn't the first time that these four people have attacked someone. And it wont be the last.
Ruby and Judah have liked each other for some time but neither one have been able to tell the other how they feel or get close to each other. Judah agrees to stay at Ruby's house until the people are caught that have attacked her. This gives them time to spend together and get to know each other.
With the element of danger in the background of their lives these two take it slow and get to know one another. But then Ruby is attacked again. Will these two have a happy ending or will the four attackers take that away? What is the huge twist in this that changes everything for the ones investigating the case? I absolutely loved the investigating element of this story. Trying to figure out who is doing the break-ins-murders and why. And to find out who was planning it all mind blowing shocking moment. This was an enjoyable suspenseful, lovable book from beginning to end. Jane wrote another amazing book that had me gripped from beginning to end. I absolutely loved the sisters and cant wait to read the rest of their stories.

I absolutely loved book one, Cracked Sapphire, in this terrific Broken Gems series, so was very excited for the release of book two and let me say... it is just as wonderful!

Ruby Hatcher and Detective Judah Willow have been eyeing each other off for ages. Ruby’s extremely traumatic past has prevented her from admitting her attraction or seeking anything further and Judah doesn’t want to push her. That is until circumstances present themselves and things change.

The underlying storyline of people randomly going into houses and committing murders is atrocious but nothing new for this bold author who writes amazing suspense stories. Don’t be fooled by thinking you know everything, just when you think aha, another twist happens. I am in awe of this author’s criminally-minded creativity.

We get to know Sapphire and Gideon a tiny bit more and their relationship, which is great, but also a little bit more about Amethyst and Diamond too. Ruby... ah that poor sweetheart, what she went through was so typical of that situation but no less shocking and the descriptions make you feel like you are watching things unfold as they happen. I really felt a connection with both Ruby and Judah, both fantastic characters and a terrific match.

This story explores some very serious issues, very real ones and they are handled well with good insights given too. Another fantastic book and the only problem I have now is that I have to wait for book three, Fractured Diamond.

Ruby has experienced the worst of what the world has to offer, and while she barely survived, she did. Though she sometimes may wish she hadn't, or perhaps she wonders if others would be better off if she hadn't. After once again experiencing the bad side of life, she finally encounters something good...Judah, a detective that's been interested in her for a while and vice versa, is now in a position where she can't ignore him.

Judah feels a connection to Ruby and wants to explore it, but he also knows what she's endured and doesn't want to risk pushing her. However, fate has other plans when she gets involved in one of his cases. While keeping her safe, he also uses their time together to show her that not all men are dangerous. And just maybe as he helps her confront and overcome her past, he can do the same about his own.

Ruby and her sisters were trapped in a nightmare they couldn't escape from for far too long. When they did, even while finally free, they were still trapped in other ways. Each will get their own books and find the happiness they deserve. (Cracked Sapphire is book one.)

One-click now and follow along as two people, both struggling for various reasons, discover the healing power of love. I enjoyed reading Judah and Ruby's journeys - individually and together. Ruby's past wasn't glossed over nor did she recover instantly. It was true to form in that recovery was a process and just living was an ordeal.

Detectives Judah and Zeb were on a case that involves a home invasions that resulted in murders. Nothing was taken though. It was as if the criminals were having fun.
Ruby was depressed. Once again thinking about ending her life until she heard glass breaking in the kitchen. Will she be the next victim?

***NOTE***A dark, sometimes detailed outing
1,681 days ago, 17-year-old Ruby Hatcher was awakened from a sound sleep, sold to human traffickers by her parents, separated from her four sisters, was tortured, beaten gang-raped multiple times, re-sold and humiliated. Past the stages of depression, past hoping for rescue or escape or a way to kill herself, Ruby was almost lifeless. Until a careless client left a way for her to cut her ropes when he was done. Ruby did more than that, she fled!

Seven years after she’d fled, was reunited and living with three of her sisters, contemplating her 4th suicide attempt, Ruby looks up to see four masked people. Quick thinking, a handy weapon and a safe room kept Ruby from being the 5th person in a second night of home invasion/robbery/murder spree. Det. Judah Willow, a cop friend of her cop sister was the first to arrive. Ruby had been avoiding Judah so he couldn’t ask her out but his arms were all she wanted after that fearful episode.

Assigned the crime spree case, Ruby’s ordeal gave Judah new clues. Certain the gunmen would be back, Judah moved into the household to share armed protection duties with Sapphire. Encouragement from the Hatcher sisters allow Ruby and Judah to get closer as the spree escalates and he gets unexpected and disturbing leads.

Crushed Ruby was a story was very hard to read, though not in a bad way, but more like in a realistic way as Ruby is a survivor of human trafficking. And Jane Blythe did is so well, as she made Ruby strong, and yet, didn't shy away from all the aftermath since she didn't make it an easy fix, which it wouldn't be one bit. Ruby battles with PTSD (obviously) in the guise of nightmares, overpowering feelings of fear, not to mention, she has that little voice in her head telling her the world would be better off without her in it. Detective Judah Willow comes across Ruby after she has a home invasion, and while he knows about her past, it doesn't chance the instant feelings he has for the damaged woman, but luckily, he's not pushing things. My feelings are completely raw after devouring this book, as Ms. Blythe made me feel like I was going through everything with Ruby. Then, there are the twists which kept the f-bombs dropping, while I stayed on the edge of my seat because of the whole overall feelings of danger coming leading up to the end where all kinds of truths are revealed. So, if you want to know how it all plays out, then it's time for you to hit those one click buttons, but be warned, the author is sparing no emotions! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

At seventeen, Ruby's parents sold her and her sisters to human traffickers. She was a sex slave and was prostituted out to many many men. Four and a half years later, she escapes and is taken to the hospital. She is reunited with all of her sisters but one. Now eleven years later, one sister is about to get married and they are all sharing a house. There is a break in and a family of four are murdered. Ruby is home alone when she hears glass breaking. Four armed intruders break in and one starts pulling her down the hall. She has a knife blade and cuts him and runs into the safe room.
Judah is a detective andhas had a crush on Ruby since setting eyes on her. He has tried to get her alone to ask her out but she makes sure they never are alone. Judah is the detective on the murder case and lives close to Ruby. He is the first to arrive and gets her out of the safe room. They believe they will come back for her so he stays at the house with them. Judah wants Ruby but is willing to go as slow as she needs. More murders are committed and they need to find the people responsible before they can get to Ruby again.
Great story. Some sex. Suspense. Two people with painful pasts that are perfect for each other.

Intense!

This is such a gripping book! The first part is hard because it describes Ruby's experience when her parents sold her to sex traffickers. I can't understand why her parents could be so cruel. There is not a lot of detail about her time, but be sure to know it may have triggers for some people. I was glad when I got through that part.

Ruby is a strong person to have gotten away and start a new life. I like that her sisters are there for her. They help protect her when she is involved in a home invasion. The author is quite creative to come up with this story.

I like Judah. He can see Ruby as a strong person. He treats her with respect while he protects her from the gang of home invaders. He is careful while he lets her know he cares for her. I like that he doesn't push her into a relationship too fast without her consent.

I really liked this book. The plot moved quickly. I was surprised by the resolution of the murders. I would never have guessed who the gang was. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Oh, how I love the Hatcher sisters. These women are amazing-- strong, smart, loving, and total badasses. I fell for Sapphire in the first book but Ruby -- Ruby is my new favorite sister. Her pain and her fear were palpable, and Blythe created a character so raw and so real that I immediately empathized with her. I don't know that I've ever rooted harder for a happy ending, or felt so strongly attached to a character. She and Judah make an absolutely perfect couple, and the path to that realization is full of honesty, vulnerability, and sheer compassion.

Although this book could be read as a standalone, I HIGHLY recommend reading the first book in the series beforehand, just to get a better feel for the sisters and what they've been through. Either way, though, be prepared to be blown away by the awesomeness that Blythe has crafted.

I cannot wait for the next one!!

Within these pages lies the story of another one of the Hatcher sisters (All five were sold by their parents).
Of the girls who have been found, Ruby was the eldest and the one gone the longest.

Watch how she struggles to keep the demons at bay. Her inner strength when most would crumble apart will inspire you.

Judah is Zeb's replacement partner ( Find that story in previous book). Will he be able to get Ruby to realize her strength and worth?

Yet again this brillant authors mind has created a story within a story, watch as the characters try to find answers, hopefully before too many bodies pile up. As usual you will not believe the twists.

Every time that I read a new book from this author I think that after reading so many by her, she can no longer surprise me, every time she proves me wrong. She will always be a top suspense author for me.

Title: Crushed Ruby
Author: Jane Blythe
Format: Ebook
Genre: Romantic Suspense, Police
Standalone: Yes
Part of a Series: Book 2 of the Broken Gems series
POV: Ruby and Judah and the killers with a few bonus POVs
Steam Level: Some steam and some dark sexual elements
4/5

Crushed Ruby is the second book in the Broken Gems series which I'm reading in order. While Sapphire's book was okay, I liked Ruby's much better. Crushed Ruby is fast paced and intense. The mystery was great and I didn't see the twist coming. Although dealing with intense subject including human trafficking, bullying and suicidal ideation, Crushed Ruby was not preachy or overdramatic. I'm looking forward to reading Diamond's story and continuing this series.

I received this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Crushed Ruby

OMG! Another intense story by Jane! This was intense and dark from the gitgo! Ruby had it really rough since her parents betrayal. Ruby had to endure over four years of terrifying torture but she was able to rescue herself. However, since that time, she has constant thought of suicide. Judah is a cop who endured a horrible childhood and OCD. He also thought about suicide but after he got help, he decided to help save people. We know there are bad people out in this world but when they are teenagers, it seems to make things worse. I am happy all of the teenagers were either captured or dead but not before Ruby almost lost her own life. Luckily, she survived and now both her and Judah can move on to their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Jane! I would recommend this book!

Another fabulous read from this incredibly talented author. Once again Jane Blythe does not shy away from the shocking, the dark and the depraved. None of the darkness in these books is gratuitous and throughout the book is also humour and a blossoming romance.
This is the second book in the Broken Gems series and although it continues lives of the same characters, this book picks up on the romance between Ruby and Judah.
This book is an absolute roller coaster of a ride and at times I struggled not to take a peek at the ending! So glad I didn't though! I recommend this book unreservedly and as the series is now complete the first thing I have done on completing it is to reach for the next installment!

Ruby and Judah. Ruby is one of the found sisters and she experienced a horrible 5 years in captivity and her struggles are not over. Judah is new to the series and is partnered up with Zeb. The sisters, mainly Ruby, find themselves in danger again due to a home break in. As the story develops the crimes are not as random as first thought and Ruby starts a relationship. Judah has some baggage as well, but it helps the two relate and opens up that wall that Ruby kept in place. The other sisters are a hoot with their conversations and so strong with their love of each other. Mental health and sexual assault are covered in these books, but so is the story of overcoming it and the beauty of family/friends looking to encourage and support.

Well written

This is quite gruesome and disturbing in parts due to the subject matter but it's written well and you delve into the minds of all the characters. The main one is Ruby, her experience of the horror she and her sisters lived as they were sold into by their parents was the worst and she's hidden herself away from the world. However Sapphires experiences and HEA from the first book has widened the sisters circle and in comes the cop Judah.
Unfortunately a group of serial killers are working in their neighbourhood and the Hatchers are destined to become their next victims.
Great characters and so well written

This book has some wild twists that I did not see coming. The story is dark and violent. It also has hope and encouragement. Ruby’s character has so much strength. She’s been through hell and suffers terribly but she is so kind and sweet. Judah is also sweet and kind. He is so gentle and understanding of Ruby and her struggles. Jane Blythe is such a talented author. She can tell a horrifying and heart wrenching story that keeps me riveted to the pages and makes me cry. I think this is her best book yet!

I told Jane that this series reminds me of an out of control rollercoaster. She doesn't even ease us in. Right from page one we are on one heck of a ride.

In book two we learn more about Ruby and Judah. While they continue to recover from their pasts they are now dealing with a whole bunch of crazy right in Ruby's neighbourhood.

Will Judah be able to help her as well as heal her heart and soul?

Shattered Ruby will answer this question as it makes your heart race.

This is the 2nd book in this awesome series. Ruby and Judah who is a detective are attracter to each other, however due to her traumatic past he treads carefully with her. No spoilers: this is a fantastic story and you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story which is intense, heartbreaking, and with twists as well as being an all-consuming emotional roller coaster. I was totally captivated throughout this riveting page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author.

Crushed Ruby is the second book in the Broken Gems Series. I advise reading Cracked Sapphire first before diving into this story.

Ruby has survived hell with the sex traffickers and trying to adjust to normal everyday life. When another threat presents itself, and brings Judah into her life.

Can he keep her safe? Will he help her overcome her demons?

This story is dark and twisted. So not recommended for the faint hearted. It had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Really enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed reading Crushed Ruby, which is the second book in the Broken Gem Series. This book is very intense and dark. This story is very twisted, emotional, and has a group of four very insane, crazy people.
Ruby likes Judah, which is a very sweet detective, but she is to scared to have a relationship with any man. I couldn't put this book down, read all the way through, wanted to know what will happen next. Was very surprised and shocked what happened at the end of the story. Highly recommend this book.

Ruby is struggling every day. Four years of her life was taken from her.
Judah is a detective and he works with Sapphire, Ruby's sister. He has a huge crush on Ruby but she always seems to shy away from him.
Judah is working a hard case. It becomes even harder when Ruby is involved in it.
Judah and Ruby are getting closer, but with the case still hanging over them, they are taking it slow.
Just when they think they have the case solved, there is a monkey wrench thrown in. Can they find it before it's too late?
Will Ruby be able to let go and let Judah in completely?
