I want suspense, I want characters with depth who I really care what happens to them, and who I will both love and hate. I love fantasy and science fiction and I want both in the same story. I want pace, and more pace, and yet time for emotional intimacy and heart-rending scenes.
This is what I dedicate myself to writing - and why - because I love it.
P.s. I love villains that matter and I loathe poorly drawn villains. I also hate gloat speeches, deus ex machinas, and evil conflated with madness...
If I DNF a book, I normally do not rate it - unless there is an egregious issue with the story. My review ratings are as follows.
5 stars: A book I love enough that I'd happily read it again. It may have some issues, but they weren't enough to disturb my enjoyment.
4 stars: Enjoyed it, but may never read it again.
3 stars: Just made it through, probably considered DNF'ing it more than once.
2 stars: A rare rating. I read this book, it has some very serious flaws and I recommend not reading it.

MOVIE CINEMA ACTION!
My fourth time around with the fifth book in the Metaframe War series (The Crane War) made me want to go grab some swords and guns as I wanted to jump in the fray alongside the characters to kick some vampire ass as the war has escalated to a whole new level of action!
There is continuous action basically non-stop throughout most of the book and lots of different things happening within the story that slowly starts bringing things together.
The war has arrived from the King of the Vampire Dominion, Cornelius Crane as he has gathered an army of vampires along with his General, Chloe Armitage to go up against the forces of the Mirovar Force Team.
Tons of strategic planning on both sides and weapons being locked and loaded/swords and katanas sharpened for an epic battle that we have not seen since the books began.
The Mirovar Force Team members (Francis, Anton, Jay, Peter, Li, and Chiara) along with Arthur (Anton's grandfather) really mesh together in this book as though emotions are running high among them they all have made it this far together as a team. Team spirit is up and they are ready to fight for their survival against the vampires.
The Blake Force team members (Justin, Samuel, Taylor, Patrick, Tim, Max, and Red) make a full appearance in this book as they are there to assist in the fight with the vampires.
Vampire Dominion members - main characters (Cornelius Crane - Vampire King and Chloe Armitage - General) along with (Clayton Maze - General) and the vampire army are wanting to wipe out the Mirovar Force Team and Blake Force Team once and for all wanting to leave none alive!
What does the war do to all those involved? Who lives and who dies within this war? Who wins and who loses in the scheme of things? No spoilers here as you will just have to read the book!
Once again as in previous books there are guns blazing a trail of fire throughout the whole book,
along with sword fighting that literally plays out before your eyes as you can see the true masters of the sword as they slice and dice their way through the fighting,
also explosions that will send bodies flying through the air.
When you have a war there are going to be casualties, blood, gore, etc. which brings the pages alive and slams the reader into a bloody battle of life and death!
The Crane War has ramped up and has kicked into high gear! Grab your snacks plus your soda along with your swords and guns and get ready to be swept away into the Metaframe War as this book will ROCK YOU TO THE CORE!
The speed of the pages turning in the last half of the book was like a bullet train speeding down the track as when the action becomes a non-stop force there is no slowing down and there is not much sleep as the action on the pages comes alive with bullets whizzing and swords slashing behind your eyes!
The author, Graeme Rodaughan has created a world of vampires and vampire hunters raging a war that takes all the books in this series to high levels of action, intrigue, suspense, and tension and keeps the action ramped up to an all time high! Giving this book five "Slice/Dice Kick Ass"stars!
Highly recommend to dark fantasy fans!

January 22, 2024Pirate Shocker! Latest Book Hawked in Dark Alley! "Well, I was wandering the streets and back alleys of the city, wondering what was going to happen in ‘The Crane War’ - the fifth book in the Metaframe War series by Graeme Rodaughan when ..."
I passed an alleyway stinking of stale urine and something that might've died a week ago. “Pssssstttt,” hissed a vaguely human form standing in the deep shadows of the alleyway. “Do you want some?”
“What?” I asked. The hairs on the back of my neck started to rise, a dreadful itch working it’s way into existence between my shoulder blades.
“Books mate. I’m a Booklegger, I’ve got dozens of copies of The Crane War.”
“The Crane War?” What the hell was he doing with copies this quickly? The book had barely gone live on Amazon.
“Yeah. The Metaframe War series - the real stuff filled with action and gore - not some cheap and shiny knock-off loaded with soppy paranormal romance.”
I stroked my chin, glancing around the street, which had suddenly become deserted in the last couple of minutes. A stray breeze rallied into a gust, sending a rusted coke can scuttling along the sidewalk. I had to admit to myself that I was secretly intrigued by his offer - how had he come by such treasures?
I needed to know, so I inquired quietly, “OK, show me what you’ve got, and I’ll see if I want to pay your price.”
He emerged from the shadows. He was tall, thick set and bearded, cloaked in a long, dark duster and broad brimmed hat. All I could see by the street lamps was the bottom of his face, a crooked grin curling the edges of his thin lipped mouth.
“Price? Don’t worry about the price. It’s only a small thing that I ask for, and I find that most people don’t miss it once it’s gone.” He chuckled quietly for a long, lingering moment.
My hackles rose. What he wanted was not negotiable for one of my kind. I felt the itch between my shoulder blades begin to grow, stretching out familiar fingers, as my skin began to transform.
I growled, my voice suddenly an octave lower, “No one booklegs the Metaframe War series!”
He snarled, I leaped, we clashed, hard and fast. He was dense muscle under the duster and I felt like I was working against stone as we fought.
But stone can be brittle and I knew this was only going to end one way for him - badly.
Dark blood splashed onto the cobblestones and for a moment I wondered if it was mine.
Damn it! I should have ordered The Crane War on Pre-Order!

First, I would like to thank the author, Graeme Rodaughan, for providing me with an ARC copy of The Crane War. And a shout out to all the folks at Castle Dracula for a fantastic buddy read.
It’s hard to believe we are already 5 books into The Metaframe War series. The story picks up right after the conclusion of book 4. The Order of Thoth has taken a huge loss against the vampires and now the Mirovar force team is looking for a way to even the score. They want to strike directly at the heart of one of the vampire’s ultimate weapons…the Panopticon. But, the fortress where the Panopticon is kept may as well be impenetrable. Insert Arthur Slayne. The legendary Order of Thoth member has been planning this day for decades. He has plans in place that took years to come to fruition for just this scenario. There’s only one setback. Will Arthur be the key to helping the Mirovar force team taking the Panopticon, or will he be the death of them all?
As always with Graeme’s work we get a healthy dose of non-stop action, close quarters combat, and badass weaponry that would make a combat war veteran proud. Graeme’s ability in writing his action scenes have been a major highlight throughout this series.. They are all very detailed and make the reader feel like they're right in the middle of the carnage.
The characters and writing style are another bonus in this series. Chloe and Anton take a lot of the spotlight. But I am enjoying how Chiara and Li’s characters are developing. Both were given time to shine in this book and it’s obvious they are going to be vital to the story going forward. Arthur Slayne was a bit of an enigma for me. I was glad to see him finally enter the picture as we have only heard about him up to this point. But I just can’t warm up to the guy. I know Graeme wrote his character to be portrayed a specific way, and I believe he did a fantastic job. My mixed feelings for Arthur are a testament to how well written his character is.
The writing style in this series is very fast paced most of the time. There is a lot going on and multiple POV’s are involved. I really enjoy this type of writing if done correctly, and Graeme seems to have it mastered. It takes patience and a lot of work to write 2 or 3 different scenes that take place simultaneously. All while switching between scenes and getting the timing of each correct. Well done, sir!
The Crane War is a great addition to The Metaframe War series. I’m super excited for what Graeme has in store for this series going forward. I strongly recommend these books to all urban fantasy lovers, vampire fans, and anyone who enjoys an edge of your seat-thrill ride of a story. The release date was Dec. 30, so this is now available for all to take pleasure in.

4.5 rounded up to 5.0 stars! Just as in the previous four books, I really enjoyed reading this next installment. These books in this series are just all kinds of fun. Great characters, which we're watching grow and mature in their roles plus nonstop action keep you on the edge of your seat. And the big picture storyline is intriguing, with twists and turns in new directions happening constantly. I really don't know where the next book will take us, but I'm excited to find out. And, what a great group read of this book in the Castle Dracula group, adding all kinds of fun. Thanks to the author for providing an ARC of the book as well. I very much recommend this series (starting with A Subtle Agency) for anyone who likes vampire books or action books, or just in general if your looking for a nonstop, fun, thrill ride. You won't regret it!

The fifth installment in the Metaframe War series is hot action from beginning to the very end. As usual, the story picks up right after the end of the previous book and kicks off from the very first page.

Together, they must defeat the might of the Vampire Dominion and attempt the impossible. Steal the Panopticon from Crane's practically impenetrable fortress.

Well, as it turns out.... everything!
Anton’s grandfather does seem to have a dark agenda that could possibly prove to be even more dangerous than that of Anton's arch-nemesis, general Chloe Armitage. But will he go though with it, despite the casualties it would cause? Blood or revenge? What path he will choose remains for you to find out while reading. I for one loved every minute of it.

Arthur Slayne is one character I have waited to meet from the very beginning of the series and now that the moment has come, he doesn't disappoint. He was my favorite within this installment. Complex and well drawn, he is one to root for.
The harbinger of bad news and impossible to get out of situations, Arthur takes the already hot action in this installment one notch higher.
And this is exactly what The Crane War is all about. Action. Non-stop edge of the seat nail-biting action in Graeme's typical cinematic style.
And exactly because of that, it fell a little short for me. While the action is great, I wanted more!
The plot seems very straightforward here, despite the usual intricate subplots that Graeme has gotten his readers used to. We do get Chloe Armitage's intrigues, Cornelius Crane's secrets and Arthur Slayne's dark hidden agenda and yet they were overshadowed by the action. At heart, the The Crane War is a big full out war between the remnants of the Order of Toth and Crane's forces.
We get a lot of planning and a hell lot of action, but not so many revelations and twists to take the reader by surprise. Now I'm not saying these aren't there. But they seem very few compared to the rest of the MF books. Until the epilogue that is. Because that is a fabulous end, foreshadowing a kickass sequel that I am looking forward to.
I am not a very big fan of full blown out action without equally great character development and interaction to go with it. And this is the place where The Crane War didn't quite do it for me.
The characters grow and evolve, especially Chiara, Li and Anton. And yet, I would have liked more show than tell in both their growth and interaction. Their feelings, emotions and motivations felt a little bit unnatural to me at times and that cut a little down from the enticement of the story in general.
The action is brilliant, as always. And the blood and gore are deliciously morbid and badass:
"Bone shattered and blood sprayed in red ribbons of gore. The walls and ceiling were painted with splats of blood and gobbets of flesh. The concrete ran with rivulets of blood as the corpses piled one upon another."
Graeme is a master at writing bloody kickass action scenes! Even while there are several of them going on at the same time. He pulls it off like a charm and makes the reader feel he's smack down in the middle of it all. Brilliantly done!
That is one thing I loved in all his books and The Crane War in particular.
And then there are the chameleons!! Bad and dangerous to the bone and I absolutely loved them! Especially when they used that endearing term for the human they answered to! "Meat-that-talks' is bound to stick with you! :D And I'm looking forward to their future interaction with Chloe and her henchman.

All in all, The Crane War is a wonderful addition to the Metaframe War Series and if you crave hot action, it will be a guaranteed five star read for you.
It does feel like a turning point that sets a different base for the future books, one with higher stakes and a much larger scope. And I am looking forward to discovering where it will all lead.
I highly recommend this series to all dark Urban Fantasy fans out there!
It's one hell of a ride so give it a try!
I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

And exactly because of that, it fell a little short for me. While the action is great, I wanted more!
The plot seems very straightforward here, despite the usual intricate subplots that Graeme has gotten his readers used to. We do get Chloe Armitage's intrigues, Cornelius Crane's secrets and Arthur Slayne's dark hidden agenda and yet they were overshadowed by the action. At heart, the The Crane War is a big full out war between the remnants of the Order of Toth and Crane's forces.
We get a lot of planning and a hell lot of action, but not so many revelations and twists to take the reader by surprise. Now I'm not saying these aren't there. But they seem very few compared to the rest of the MF books. Until the epilogue that is. Because that is a fabulous end, foreshadowing a kickass sequel that I am looking forward to.
I am not a very big fan of full blown out action without equally great character development and interaction to go with it. And this is the place where The Crane War didn't quite do it for me.
The characters grow and evolve, especially Chiara, Li and Anton. And yet, I would have liked more show than tell in both their growth and interaction. Their feelings, emotions and motivations felt a little bit unnatural to me at times and that cut a little down from the enticement of the story in general.
The action is brilliant, as always. And the blood and gore are deliciously morbid and badass:
"Bone shattered and blood sprayed in red ribbons of gore. The walls and ceiling were painted with splats of blood and gobbets of flesh. The concrete ran with rivulets of blood as the corpses piled one upon another."
Graeme is a master at writing bloody kickass action scenes! Even while there are several of them going on at the same time. He pulls it off like a charm and makes the reader feel he's smack down in the middle of it all. Brilliantly done!
That is one thing I loved in all his books and The Crane War in particular.
And then there are the chameleons!! Bad and dangerous to the bone and I absolutely loved them! Especially when they used that endearing term for the human they answered to! "Meat-that-talks' is bound to stick with you! :D And I'm looking forward to their future interaction with Chloe and her henchman.

All in all, The Crane War is a wonderful addition to the Metaframe War Series and if you crave hot action, it will be a guaranteed five star read for you.
It does feel like a turning point that sets a different base for the future books, one with higher stakes and a much larger scope. And I am looking forward to discovering where it will all lead.
I highly recommend this series to all dark Urban Fantasy fans out there!
It's one hell of a ride so give it a try!
I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

The Crane War continues the trend of combining fast paced action with decent plot lines and excellent characters in the series. I had to finish the book in one sitting since it is that gripping. Of course, this is meant for readers looking for excellent action sequences with gun-fu.

The existence of vampires must remain secret. Humans could not be allowed to discover they were little more than cattle. They were far from being rulers of this world. Awareness of their true status would puncture the thin veneer of rationality masking the depths of insanity lurking beneath.
Here we are at number five of the Metaframe series. One of the remarkable things about Graeme Roudaughan’s books is how intricate they are. This isn’t your cookie-cutter vampire series aimed at wooing the young adult crowd with drama and romance. The story is complex and meticulously plotted, spanning generations and travelling the globe. This fantasy world of Roudaughan’s making is methodically weaved into actual history. Even the likes of Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein knew of the Engine of Thoth.
This installment finally introduces us in earnest to the larger-than-life Author Slayne. His character was worth the wait as he's not exactly what I was expecting.

This series has gripped me from the first book through to this one with a very high level of addictive compulsion. I must absolutely know how it'll all end up. We see the emergence of a long talked about character in this offering and he goes ahead and thoroughly disrupts everything in his sight with the ultimate price being the control of reality itself.
The Vampire Dominion's King, Cornelius Crane, is slowly losing his grips in the affairs of controlling humanity and vampires alike. The Order of Toth operatives mount a dangerous and ultimately lethal attack against his most powerful and important cyber asset. Events are heading towards a final confrontation and no one knows how it's going to all end up.
Highly gripping and compulsive off-the-charts thrill ride! Must be read in order, highly recommended.

This was a very fitting and very exciting, action-packed addition to the Metaframe War series by Graeme Rodaughan.
The events in The Crane War take place as a direct continuation of the events from the prior four volumes. This one is quite a bit longer though. There is very little to criticize here. The action is cinematic, just like the prior four books. There is a TON of action. It's arguably just action punctuated by the characters hunching over for a sec to take a deep breath.
It also force the convergence of a lot of the shadowy agendas, backstabbing, interpersonal disputes, loose threads, mysteries, and "will they or won't they"s into a pressure cooker with bullets and swords. High pressure, with flying projectiles, explosives and really long sharp blades? Yeah, some people get hurt. But that's how a big war goes.
The Crane War has echoey attributes that reminded me of the Battle of Five Armies, Underworld, the Matrix, plus enough political lying and shenanigans to make a Romulan blush.
And the best part is TCW doesn't finish the series. Because And it's also interesting because we learn And lots of vamp soldiers get theirs. So that's pretty awesome.

All of the groundwork laid out in The Day Guard pays off in The Crane War, the fifth book in The Metaframe War by Graeme Rodaughan. Events pick up where the fourth book leaves off: the Order of Thoth has taken heavy losses; The Mirovar Force Team is plotting how to best use the newly discovered information about the Panopticon; Cornelius Crane is as paranoid as ever; Chloe continues to play the faithful servant while working on a solution to her implant problem. The action is non-stop and the schemes within each faction definitely keep things interesting.
One of Rodaughan's strength lies in his ability to write heart pounding cinematic action. The Crane War does the impossible by dialing up the intensity. The blending between various points of view and fighting styles is seamless. Once reaching the final third of the book it was hard to take breaks, there was so much constantly happening. I'm not sure if I was more impressed with Chiara's or Anton and Arthur's final showdown in . All that was missing was a rampaging tank!
Plot-wise, I am enjoying the Vampire Dominion side of things a lot more than the Order of Thoth. Chloe and Crane's constant power plays against each other, with Chloe's meticulous scheming and Crane's inherent paranoia, are delightful. On the flip side, The Order of Thoth is feeling YA in an unpleasant way when compared to the vampires. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with most of the Mirovar team being teenagers, but still!
The new world building snippets we see are both great at answering questions and frustrating at what they don't answer. I loved finally getting to meet the myth himself, Arthur Slayne, and seeing more behind the loremaster ability. Chloe makes a great discovery that I hope gets delved into deeper in the next installment. The Red Empire takes a back seat while the Order and Dominion clash.
This was a satisfying read. Now starts the long wait for book six.

The Metaframe War series just keeps getting better and better! Series book 5, The Crane War, introduces new characters, more high adrenaline action, and a depth in the story line that surpasses the last 4 installments. Doing this series as a buddy read with fellow readers as well as author Graeme Rodaughan has become the highlight of my 2025 reading journey. So pleased to be taking this ride! Highly recommended for other readers who love fast paced thrillers mixed with vampires, ancient gods, and endearing heroes.

I was looking forward to read this chapter of the series and I must say that I liked it very much. The story picks up where the previous chapter ended with the Order of Toth in jeopardy and a handful of teams opposing the Vampire Dominion. Arthur Slayne's appearance and a mission that can change the fortunes of war, are the fulcrum around which story revolves.
But there are also numerous and intricate subplots, where the machinations of the various characters evolve: Chloe Armitage and his intrigues, Cornelius Crane and his secrets and Arthur Slayne, whom we finally meet, an ambiguous but charismatic figure, with purposes are not always clear.
The plans of Crane and Armitage add further suspense to the plot, in addition to the mystery of the Metaframe, on which some light is thrown, but whose secrets are still many.
There is also a gradual growth and change of all the members of the group, which is very apt in my opinion, because it brings the reader's attention to a higher level, not only focused on the action, but also on the individual characters. For me, the only one who is penalized is Peter, here simply in the role of faithful companion. I hope there will be an evolution for him too, because he is perhaps the character I appreciate most.
Overall, an excellent book, for all the fans of action. It's also the demonstration that the series is growing more and more and if you have followed it so far, you will not be disappointed.

I know I said the book before this was my favorite of the series. But I've changed my mind. This one is my favorite! I am really loving how Li is stepping into her role as loremaster and Anton is literally going Berserker on us! This is so fun. I don't know if I'm supposed to be forming a connection with the Chameleons but I am. I mean, they are killing machines! But there is something about them that I find sweet. I'm also hoping for a good resolution for The Sand Crocodile, I really feel for his desire for honor. There is so much more I could talk about but I have to go read the next book!

Finally, we meet the great grizzled warrior Arthur Slayne, for four books we’ve been hearing about him. Arthur has an amazing plan, twenty years in the making, to take down the Vampire Dominion.
Unfortunately, teenagers.
That mostly sums my feelings on this chapter of the Metaframe. Great characters like Chloe, Louise, and Crane are just riding the wind. This book is about a vicious battle between Arthur, Team Mirovar, and Team Blake against a bunch of vampires. It’s a one-sided affair.
While I did not enjoy this teenage story there were some tantalizing glimpses of potential Chloe victory. Slaynes’ would look better, quiet, obedient, and in red dragon heraldry.

TL;DR--Although at this point in the series, I would've liked more world building--especially in terms of the Metaframe itself--there's more than enough awesome non-stop action and plot complexities to keep readers engaged and entertained.
Quite a number of exciting world-building developments were merely touched upon at the expense of action. In addition, as the story progressed some of the tension was taken away by almost flawless planning.
Having said that, the nemesis tower sequence is easily the best heart-in-the-throat scene in the book, so look out for it.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series to get to more of the innovative world building.

Incredible fifth installment of this series!
The Crane War by Graeme Rodaughan is an action packed fifth installment in this series. The author leaves you barely with a moment to breath because there is always something happening. He always finds an interesting plot line that keeps you captivated. These books are very difficult to put down and I got one am always looking forward for the next release.
The pace is just perfect with something always happening. This author is never afraid to make very tough choices and it always socks me what decisions h he makes at critical points in the story and how far he will take it.
There are some fantastic surprises in this one but also some horrible socks in my eyes. Anton is an incredible character with some hidden depths that are coming out. Some more secrets are being hinted on for the next one which makes me very excited to see what the author has on store for this group of elite fighters next! I personally love this series and can only recommend it!

My eyeballs were hurt in the reading of this novel.
I mean that in a completely awesome way, as I turn 50 tomorrow and am pretty adverse to strenuous activity of most kinds. So, reading a story of a war between super-humans, vampires, two ancient chameleon-creatures, and a pantheon of even more ancient gods -- let's just say that there's so much action going on here that I needed a flowchart, several diagrams, and some nitro for my palpitating heart.
Most definitely, this is NOT where you want to begin reading the Metaframe War series. Rodaughan has developed this series so intricately, with plots and subplots and layers woven throughout, yet the story quickly sucks the reader back in to the world of Anton Slayne and his colleagues.
I look forward to the next book. Hopefully none of my favorite characters will get axed!

I read this book just as the pandemic hit. Being distracted by that and getting settled in a new house, I must have neglected to post my review. I'm correcting that now.
I'll start with the bad (of which there's not a lot, but I'm picky): In the advance reader's copy I received, there's several scenes that should have been fleshed out, and too many conversations that are told in overview. Using dialog would have brought those scenes to life. There's not an excessive use of the passive voice, but it still pops up. There's a number of punctuation errors throughout, maybe as simple as not hyphenating “floor-to-ceiling” or “surface-to-air”. Or using an apostrophe S when a family name is pluralized: Slayne's instead of Slaynes.
Also, I wonder how the secret mole, after he has been discovered as a double-agent by the Dominion, can still use his slide card to get the team deeper into the Panopticon. I'd think the vampires would immediately render his card worthless. It comes off as dunce-ex-machina.
(Even before I came to that part, I thought the mole should have simply told the vampires that he had been taken prisoner by the good guys. They would then be likely believe him and let him go.)
The good: We are given the continuing adventures of Team Thoth, this time gaining a new ally in Anton's feisty grandfather. They also have a new and daring mission: a chance to bring down the Vampire Dominion by taking out their greatest asset—the heavily guarded Panopticon.
I love the nameless entity that Li encounters whilst in the heart of the Panopticon. Leaving it unexplained imbues this entity with a kind of Lovecraftian vibe.
The battle for the Panopticon, which makes up most of the book, is truly epic. The action is fast-moving, riveting, and non-stop.
The aftermath of the battle is equally engaging, filled with revelation after revelation—some very human, some strategical, and some cosmic. Do our heroes win against the Vampire Dominion? You'll have to read it to find out.
Even with the need for a final edit, I do recommend this book and the entire series thus far.

I have read the four previous entries in this series, which with this volume, I believe is about halfway finished now. This has been a very action-packed series and The Crane War is certainly no slouch in the action department. Graeme Rodaughan knows how to craft a tremendous fight sequence and he's no stranger to guns either, it seems.
As I read through this book though, I found it disappointing in some areas. First, the length. This story is bloated at north of 140k words. A strong edit could've removed 40 or 50 thousand of them and what remained would've been tighter and a better read. Second, this is book five in a series and I wish there was more world building and less shoot em up action. It's time to dive into this Metaframe!
And lastly, for me anyway, what made A Subtle Agency great was the effective trope of having a character in over their head against impossible odds. The reader loves rooting for the underdog and Anton Slayne fit the role perfectly. Then. Now, he's an uber soldier and I miss the character I could relate to.
All that said though, this is a good book. The action is intense. The descriptions are involved. And Chloe Armitage continues to be the stand-out character of this, or any, series.

I have no words. It is a blessing and a curse to become attached to characters!
I am emotionally drained - exhausted - fried. So many things happened! Both sides of this war had so many revelations, so many plans, so many failures, and so many losses.

I want to start out by saying that I am still a member of ‘Team Vampire’. We will all choose our side and who we are rooting for as this series progresses, and I’ve yet to find a reason not to be on the side of the Vampire Dominion. Regardless of which side you are on, one thing is abundant in this series - action, thrills and more action. From start to finish it is chock-full of edge of your seat action, adventure and suspense. No matter the situation there’s always something harrowing, intense or exciting going on. With a very descriptive dialogue, you will find yourself being easily guided through the scenes and plots of this intoxicating adventure. Just when you think you may have figured something out, there's a twist that turns the whole thing around. This is a series that will maintain your interest and have you hungering for more. If you’re familiar with, and enjoy ‘Underworld’ you will be very comfortable with this series. A series worthy of the term ‘extraordinary’.

Graeme has continued to thrill with The Crane Wars. It is action packed from start to finish. Hoping that the next book is ready soon to find out what is in store for the Vampire Dominion.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author as part of a group early read for the Castle Dracula group.
Ok so the fifth installment of the series has some really big moments. There's a ton of action, lots of good character development and the story gets deeper and more twisting.
Anton's new abilities are out of control and, while powerful, are dangerous to him and his friends and team mates. His relationship with his Grandfather is an interesting dynamic and Arthurs own character presents an unique situation where the character has no foreknowledge of his plan ahead of the plan unfolding.
Li undergoes a transition from sidekick to being a core part of the team and knowledge she gains throughout the book becomes a curse, potentially spoiling relationships she has built up thus far and opening her up to new dangers she alone can deal with.
Chiara is probably the most interesting character to me in this chapter though, her budding relationship with Anton provides some grounding but her past and possible future have the potential to destroy it all. She's mysterious and skilled but still takes a back seat in the group dynamic aside from in combat until the very end where her true potential is revealed.
We also see some more world background on Chameleons and Vampires here thats nice. The group blood lust is an interesting restriction to the Vampires and it'll be interesting to see where the Chameleons place in the world and the story will take them, especially if they are breeding!
So much happens its hard to go through it all but this book does feel like a turning point. The old order (pun intended) is gone and the stakes are becoming much much higher for everyone. Everyone is trying to secure their power base and grab whatever else is going whether they are Vampires, gods or humans.
The next chapter will be very interesting to see whose plans play out the way they want.

Arthur! Finally!!! My favorite installment so far, this one shows us that Anton is maturing and I still love Pete. Arthur is truly diabolical!!! Louise is well on her way to making big moves and I figured at some point she’d snag the serum for herself but I liked the circumstances she chose, reactionary instead of a selfish bid for power. I’m on to the next!

I would highly recommend "The Crane War" to anyone looking for a gripping, well-written, and thoroughly enjoyable read. Graeme Rodaughan has truly outdone himself with this series, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
