Unable to accept that work was something to be endured rather than relished, Marcus spoke to hundreds of people about their engagement with their jobs & found that a rarified 1% of people managed to place themselves in roles where they could integrate their values, creativity, passion & a sense of contribution.
He came to view this minority as Different Drummers who followed their own beat and walked the path of the hero’s journey. This book outlines what is required to walk the narrow path of individuation and speaks about how doing so impacts every other aspect of one’s life.
While are innumerable social challenges are being faced today, career misalignment may well be one of the most pressing considering just how much time and energy work consumes. Isn’t it time to develop a vision for more nobility in our careers, personally and collectively?
Marcus Dabb studied creative writing at university. After commencing a career in social work he employed life story writing as a way for job seekers to find greater vocational direction and help them promote their skills and gain greater self-confidence through sharing stories.
While copywriting for a personal development organisation he began offering workshops with life story components to them.
He currently teaches a week-long life story writing course and offers shorter programs at his Blue Mountains writing retreat, outside of Sydney in Australia.
