A Touch of Fae

Rate this book
Em Charvez has grown up in the shadow of the strong willed and colorful Charvez women and she feels a bit invisible. While on the hunt for a book of magic that could well destroy the Compact that gives them their power, she meets Conchobar MacNessa, a ten-thousand-year-old Faerie warrior, and suddenly she’s not quite so invisible. Things heat up between Con and Em as the battle over the book—the battle between good and evil—takes shape around them…

Note: This book contains a brief instance of explicit m/m intimacy.

3.5 stars!

Em/Emily is a witch, and she descends from a very powerful family of witches who maintain the Compact agreement between the spirit world and humans. She is human with a very strong empath ability. She is much more reserved than her sister Amelia, who was a MC in the previous book, Triad. She has to be in order to stay sane with all the background noise of everyone's feelings and thoughts around her.

She is a bit of a scholar, and she has had visions of a special book with symbols, and she describes it, trying to figure it out. That book is a book of spells that keeps the Compact intact and humans safe. Unfortunately, there is bad demon who is after the book (he was not completely destroyed in the previous book, Triad.) so the Fairy Queen decides they need to follow Em and get ahold of the book before the book gets in the wrong hands. So she assigns her most powerful Fae Warrior, Con/Conchobar, to cross over the Veil into the human world and follow her. He is not to make himself known to her but just keep her safe and observe her and find out where the Book is. Con is a lady killer and has been around for 10,000 years and has had a ton of women and other female creatures. He is tall and muscular with caramel colored eyes, shoulder length hair and pointy ears which are exquisitely sensitive. When he first sets eyes on Em, nothing can stop him from NOT following her, everywhere, including her bath, and while she's sleeping, and wherever she goes. He follows her for six months and realizes that she is going to be HIS, it's just a matter of time. He's halfway in love with her and she has no idea he even exists.

Finally it appears that Em will be getting her hands on the book, it is in the possession of a very old witch in London, and Em gets permission to visit and study this and other old books. This development is then relayed to the Fairy Queen, who then gives Con permission to reveal himself to Em so to better get ahold of the book.

When he first meets Em, she flushes in stunned amazement and recognition, this gorgeous man has been in her most private dreams at night making love to her! The chemistry between Em and Con is super hot and soon they make love and become lovers. They want to be together forever! This would entail Em being converted into Fae, and in the entire history of mankind, less Han 100 people have been converted. In the meantime, the book needs to go back to the Fairy Queens special library.

The demons have some Dark Fae that betray the Fae world and lead the Demon to the book now as it resides in the Queens library. The week when Em and Con go to get joined, the book falls into the wrong hands. Now it's time for a showdown between the Fae and Demons and Witches and Wizards (yes, all he main characters of Triad are here to help.).

Once again, this author has created a very detailed PNL spirit world with rules. It was very interesting and flowed well, some spiritual/ witch terminology was used.

I read this to fulfill a challenge requirement. I didn't read the first book, but I don't really feel like I missed much (except maybe some m/m/f loving, lol). This was an interesting story, and while I don't mind sex in my stories (duh), it was kind of overkill. It's sweet that Con was Em's Faerie stalker for a few months before they actually met. Then again, she'd been dreaming about him for years, so it was fate. And normally, I don't have a problem with insta-love in PNR, but it seemed too quick even for PNR, lol. LOTS of sex. And she started out a 25-year-old virgin. What is it with virgins and erotica?? Anyway, it was an interesting story, but I found myself wanting to skip the "good" parts because I just wanted to get back to the story. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. I might check out the rest of the series at some point.

Even for an erotic romance, this had too much sex and too little story. It was a great plot with great characters but the sex scenes interrupted the flow of the story.

Lauren Dane's later work is much better. So is the first book in this series, Triad.

I found Em to be a bit annoying most of the time, with all of her insecurities.

I liked Lee in the first book in this series, but not so much in this one. She and the rest of her family did treat Em like an invalid, and it was just sad to watch. But what was worse was how Em defended them for doing it.

It was funny and a bit fristrating as a book...

em when she was not whining she was trying to find herself...and then she was losing herself and then re finding it.

on the other hand Con is...between wanting to kill him and wanting to sex him up...he's a funny guy.

A good afternoon read but things just seemed to happen and conclude way too fast without any opportunity to build tension into the story ... I don't expect an epic but this was just a little to easy for me

story of Emily Charvez ("Em" younger sister to Lee [Amelia] and daughter of Marie [mom] in their witch family of New Orleans) the researcher and empath who meets her fated love of her life, the 10,000 year old fae warrior Conchobar MacNessa ("Con"), gets the gift of immortality so they can live in Tir na nOg (faerie plane), fights the demon via fighting several of its intermediary demon-like beings (Angra, Born) • some particularly good sex scenes with the womanizer Con and his 10,000 years of sex practice

Chapter 8
He fucked her slowly and thoroughly, the hot water pelting down on them, warming skin and loosening muscles. His hand, slowly stroking her clit, brought her to climax as she writhed against him, trying at once to escape the pleasure and get the most out of it that she could.

Chapter 10
“I won’t say I told you so,” Aidan said smoothly, using his sensual thrall of voice to send sex with his words. Alex’s cock hardened at the sound and, seeing it, Aidan gave a wicked grin as he reached out to stroke it. They both watched as Lee’s annoyance faded into something else.
“We don’t have time for this,” she said softly, eyes glued to Aidan’s hand popping open the buttons on the fly of Alex’s jeans.
“Ah, darlin’, we always have time for an appetizer,” Aidan said as Alex popped out into his hand.
“Five minutes! I have to call my mother. Don’t you dare start without me!” She turned and quicklydialed the phone as Aidan met Alex’s lips with his own.

“Let’s do some introductions, shall we?” Aidan interrupted. He pointed to the older woman and the man beside her. “Emile Brousard and Marie Charvez, Em’s maman and papa."
Con inclined his head.
Aidan turned to the belligerent man. “That is Niall, Em’s oldest brother and next to him is Eric, her next oldest sibling and Lee’s fraternal twin. The gorgeous redhead here is Lee and the man beside her is Alex, Lee’s other husband. All of you, this is Conchobar MacNessa.”

“What!” her father exploded and jumped to his feet. “This is insanity. First Niall is gay, then Lee marries a vampire and then marries another man who’s a wizard. Now Em is going to some place where she could be gone from here for years or decades and she’s going to turn into a Faerie too? Enough is enough! I blame you, Marie, for being so damned permissive with them all. I forbid it, Emily Charvez. You’ll do no such thing.” He sat back down, arms crossed over his chest.
Em looked at Lee and then at her mother. They all stayed silent for a moment and then began to laugh.
The men watched, amused. Em was laughing so hard that tears were running down her face. She gasped for breath. “Well, thank god Eric is normal, huh, Papa?”
Which started another round of laughter. Emile just looked at them, shaking his head. “Make fun, go ahead. Don’t come to me, Marie, when Em is off in Never Neverland with Peter Pan over there.”
“Peter Pan wasn’t a Faerie,” Niall said.
“But you are!” Lee said, between guffaws.
“Hardy har har. Heck, you’re the one in the threesome! I may be gay but I’m only sleeping with one guy,” Niall said with a grin.

Chapter 11

Aine took Em’s outstretched hand and they sifted.
This time, Em felt the mechanics of the sift and understood it. The magic of it was like a mathematical equation and she calculated it. It clicked in her head, made sense. Wherever they had gone though, Em understood it was beyond her abilities to get there.
“You are correct, Em. There are many pockets between worlds and realities. I believe that human quantum mechanics addresses this concept as space-time, although it’s more than that, and less than that.”

Chapter 12

The ceiling was open with large skylights, real ivy scaled the walls and a gorgeous natural stone, much like malachite made up the counters and the interior of the shower. There were benches carved into the walls and multiple showerheads at different levels. She saw that the bathtub was the size of a Jacuzzi tub and she made a mental note to try that out soon.
He scrubbed her front and back, his large hands slippery as they slid over her breasts and tugged on her nipples. His caresses lingered on her behind and he placed her facing the wall of the shower, hands up above her head against the tile. He ran his slippery fingers over her nipples again and down into her pussy, spreading her legs with a gentle nudge of his foot. He stroked down the curve of her ass and spread her open, stroking a slippery finger over the puckered bud of her anus and she gasped and trembled.
“Em, I’d like to fuck you here,” he said in her ear as his fingers continued to stroke over her. “May I?”
The taboo thrilled her even as it scared her. She trusted him without question so she tilted her hips, offering herself to him in answer.
She heard the lube splat into his hand and it dribbled down the crevice between her cheeks and pooled around her rear passage. He worked a finger inside her and she moaned low. “I’ve never done this before, Con.”
She could hear his breathing get more ragged.
Her trust in him slammed into his chest. He hadn’t thought it possible to love her more and yet he did at that moment as she gave herself to him once more.
“Of course you haven’t, you’re mine, mo fiach . I’m the first, the only and the last man who will ever be here.... I’ll be gentle, you’ll like it but if you don’t, I’ll stop.” He brought the tip of his cock to her entrance and she let out a slow breath as she tried to relax. “That’s it, just relax, baby.” He pushed in a bit and she felt the burning of his breach and the incredible sense of fullness as he eased in a bit and back out, in a bit more and back out. He put two fingers into her pussy and fucked her at the same pace....
“Oh, yes, that’s nice,” she moaned at the double penetration. Her nipples pressed against the cool stone walls, slippery with soap. He was in her, around her and over her. She felt totally possessed by him and it took her breath away.

I swear I'm just a glutton for punishment. When this was recommended to me on my library's overdrive feed (since I'd read two of the other books in this series), I was just interested enough to check it out. It wasn't as bad as some of the drek I'd read, but it wasn't as interesting as the other two books I'd read in this series so I think I'm done with this.

Didn't find anything believable, not that I think I'm supposed to, but the mind blowing sex, infighting between fae factions, witches and demon, didn't do a thing for me. Just not my genre.

Now this was a story! Em and Con. . Con the Fae warrior who followed Em for months as she searched for a book that would either end or save both their worlds. Once again the story of good vs evil. This story was hopping all the way through! Can't wait to read the 3rd book in the series!

This one started slow but progressed really fast. Em's character seems familiar with other heroines I've read about, the one misconstrued as the shy one, always outshone by her sister, but there's no hatred, just plain weariness on her part.

What she did was understandable, get away from it all and focus on her research. I began to like her character a lot because I saw how passionate she is about books, and I liked it how she slept with Con without expecting anything from him, just to try being casual. It's part of her shedding a new skin and I also hated it when her family didn't hear her out, always treating her like a baby.

When it came to Con, he saw her as a woman, and he seriously desired her. Though there's a similarity in the first book that they were fated, only Em dreamt of Con since her teenage years, but on his part, he felt a different kind of attraction for Em, and that's saying something in his 10,000 years of living as Fae. I also appreciated how Em didn't easily give in to Con, she was furious with him for attempting to manipulate her with magic, but he made it up to her...a lot.

The danger was presented after about a third of the book and there were hints of Dark Fae, and the reemergence of the demon set out to destroy the Compact. I was kept up on my toes. The sex was fan-f***ing-tastic. I loved the frequency of it, and how it didn't hinder with the flow of the story. There's a little kink and anal play and I loved the dirty talk.

On to the next!

hello let me tell you the emergency kit rules for these books the kit includes tissues, ice cream, a stress ball and sometimes on rare occasions pillow to scream in. in this book you'll need the tissue ice cream and stress ball i did not need the pillow.

you start with em she's an empathy and a strong one she's a 25 year old virgin who cant seem to find someone she's willing to give her virginity too for too many years she's been dreaming about this sexy man who does sexy things to her if you could get pregnant in dreams I'm sure she would have been mom ten times over too bad the man in question hasn't had the same dreams i find i wish he did but lets not ruin the story i will say on her side that her family has pissed me off i love all the characters i meet but their treatment of her was just off in a big way i know they were trying to protect her but you also have to let people go to make their own mistakes and then theirs con he is in trusted by the queen to watch a human witch but not make contact so this pervert.... i mean fae decides his duties to watch her include following her into the shower and watching lmao anyway i will say i love both of these people they are perfect for each other but i will tell you there are times i laughed out loud scaring the people around me enjoy!

I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one didn't do it for me. The insta-lust seemed comical instead of sexy (I'm a 10,000-year-old fae and all the thousands of females I've slept with meant nothing until I met this 25-year-old bookish human...ooookay). There was lots of sex, but little interaction.

And there's Silvia's rule for automatically taking one star off a rating: the hero stops performing oral sex to tell the heroine how pretty her p***y is, describing it in detail. First off, really??? But more important, do women really need to be worrying about the attractiveness of their lady parts? We have enough to worry about, thank you very much.

I had been looking forward to this because I'm a bookish nerd. Oh well, on to the next one in this series with optimism. Fortunately Dane's writing improved with later books.

I enjoyed this naughty-racy-raw-erotic-fantasy read thoroughly. The conflict was not as dire as the previous book but exciting just the same. I felt so pampered, precious and cherished through Em's POV and Con's action. Being a Chavez, Em needed to make sure the Compact, handed by goddess Freya to protect human, never to be broken. Accidently crossed over a Fae's magic book, Em drew the Fae Queen to her attention. Con, ten thousand yr old Fae warrior, Queen's Favored and alpha male in every way, knew Em was his mate and was fated. Get the picture?

All I can say is these Fae are way too hot, naughty and raw.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this, but it didn't as much of a story as the first book. The night they officially meet and *bam* they're together, so not a whole lot of romance. The action part was pretty tame and wrapped up pretty quickly. Definitely more erotica than romance.

We meet Simone, the lead from the next book, very briefly. I am happy to see Jayce, Con's best friend, will be turning up again in Threat of Darkness, as I wanted to hear more about him.

Another good book by Dane. This is the second book of "Witches Knot" and it was every bit good as the first. (Actually thought it was better) Great story line, and thought the romantic erotic scenes were better then the first.

The story continues with Em, who is an empathy searching for a book that can brake her families witch magic. While searching, she falls for someone that needs the book too....

Looking forward to the 3rd book!
