Policeless: How Policing Lost Its Soul

Rate this book
I bloody love police officers.I worship the ground they walk upon. They are the most incredible people to grace the Earth. Each one of them is kind, compassionate, loving, empathetic, funny and intelligent. And each one of them is someone's sister, brother, husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, or lover, someone's father, mother, son or daughter. They go out and weave magic every day. I love them. A lot. It's not them that need to be educated on how to behave in society, it's society who need to be educated on how to behave. It upsets me, to see the amount of disrespect and discourtesy they have to endure, and that's without even setting foot outside the police station. It's extremely rare for anyone to stand up for the police. But I will, until my dying breath. What a sad state of affairs it all is, when people think they have the right to pass on their personal responsibility to another person, a police officer. That shouldn't be anyone's job. It's extremely rare for a senior officer to stand up to politicians and up for their officers. They’ve become far too detached from their officers to understand what the job truly involves. They roll over and get their tummy tickled and endorse every stupid diktat coming from Whitehall, without knowing the true implications. they need to be leaders, they need to get a backbone. Police officers deserve to have great leaders, they deserve to be able to express themselves, they deserve to be allowed to use their judgement, they deserve to be respected, they deserve to be appreciated. Each and every one of them is my hero. I bloody love police officers.

So very accurate, unfortunately.

I had the pleasure of going through training school with Alan, and so I know what a lovely, kind person he is. It's a crying shame that he has felt the need to leave the police service, due to all he has detailed in this book; as it is a big loss for the police.

A copy sent to all chiefs and politicians in the UK to show that everything Alan has written is going on and would maybe give them a kick (no harm in trying) I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommended it to all m colleagues
