In a society of quick fixes and instant gratification, it seems as though true happiness is always just around the next bend. But the "happiness" of the world will never offer the wholeness that makes one content and satisfied. Dr. Robert Schuller believes the answer to this cycle of disappointment, frustration, and regret can be found in one of the most famous passages in scripture - Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.
Robert Harold Schuller was an American Christian televangelist, pastor, motivational speaker, and author. He was ordained as a minister, who rocketed to stardom in 1955 preaching from the roof of a concession stand at the drive-in movie theatre, displaying a passion and a marketing towards other people. He had been incorporating elements of psychology, into each of his messages and for many in the Christian community, he was serving up a "feel-good gospel" and that the money he was spending on buildings was to be put to better use by giving it to the poor.
The final beatitude made me love this book even more. Remember as you compromise every day you lose the ground you stand on. Your disciplines are wearing out. Simply becasue they persecute you as a Christian isn't a call to back down. You can either be a cinder and burn out, a sinner and burn up or a believer in CHRIST and burn bright!!! In the words of Toby Mac "If it's real we gotta show it, cause if it's not they sure gonna know it."
The Be Happy Attitudes is based on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Dr. Schullar takes the Beatitudes and shows how they apply to us now.
The first time I read this book, about 20 years ago, I was going through some personal tough times. Now with so much chaos around us it felt like a good time to give it another read. It is inspirational and encouraging... I'm glad I did.

📌𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄- ➡️In a society of quick fixes and instant gratification, it seems true happiness is just around the next bend or our 'If' step we take. We tend to attach our 'If' steps with materialistic things. ➡️The fact actually is the happiness of the world in cumulative will not offer the wholeness that makes one feel contented or satisfied. ➡️Dr.Schuller shares that this cycle of frustation, regret and disappointment can be overcomed by just 8 simple yet powerful "Be-Happy Attitudes" ➡️Dont' ever get trapped into saying "why me, why me?". There are so many others in much greater needs than ourselves and only when we can look outward towards others can we begin to heal and feel the Grace of God. ➡️Instead of searching around for happiness, just reflect on your inner and you'll know that the basic root value of one's soul is happiness that lies within.
📌𝗠𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸- 🌼The book Be-Happy Attitudes basically is a self-help genre that revolves around the Christian literature. 8 positive attitudes are listed within the book, which makes us realise that these are actually our core nature of soul. 🌼The book somewhere made me relate with law of attraction. What we feed our sub-concious mind, what we keep repeating knowingly or unknowingly we are caught within that trap! Thus, think positive and speak positive, and you will see the change around. 🌼Feed yourself with happiness and never make your happiness dependent on the outside world. You just live once, why ponder over things that make you sad? . 🌞 Looking for a light self help read and want a sort of relaxed vibes with positivity around, this one would be a best pick for you.
Do you find happiness elusive? Perhaps the difficulty is in your expectation. Do problems continually crop up in your life?
Doctor Schuller suggests that the Beatitudes portion of the Sermon on the Mount has the answers you seek. And, in this book, he discusses the eight universal positive principles for living effectively. Here readers will find eight positive mental attitudes that make true happiness really possible for everyone . . . .
The focus of each chapter, showing the practical differences these attitudes can make in our lives, offers usable suggestions readers can easily adapt for their own lives. These chapters include:
“I need help – I can’t do it alone.” "I’m really hurting – but I’m going to bounce back.” “I’m going to remain cool, calm, and corrected.” “I really want to do the right thing!” “I’m going to treat others the way I want others to treat me.” “I’ve got to let the faith flow free through me.” “I’m going to be a bridge builder.” “I can choose to be happy – anyway.”
Why not choose happiness?

This book is easy-to-read and inspirational, a reminder to focus on what is truly important in life. The inclusion of real-life stories makes each section highly relatable. Filled with hope and helpfulness, it’s sure to leave readers with much to ponder.
I’ve read this book several times in my life, but hadn’t read it in a while. I really enjoyed Robert Schuller’s books, but some of them I liked I can’t find in print anymore, let alone in a Kindle format. However, I’m very glad this one is still around. I’d bought the Kindle several years ago, and as I read it this time around, I made a lot of highlights. I especially loved the end of the last chapter when he talks about Jesus in such an eloquent manner. I read that over a couple of times, as I loved the writing. He’s great with the inspirational one-liners too, as seen throughout the book.
I want to note, I’m amazed that some of the reviews I read on Goodreads knocked it because it was too religious. Don’t people read the summaries before trying to read a book like this? I mean, Dr. Schuller is a minister, writing about the Beattitudes which are found in the Bible. I mean, Hello? I don’t think it would have been possible to write this book and leave religion out of it.
This book is simply a sermon on Christianity. Almost on every page, I could see Jesus Christ. Why name it as Be-Happy attitudes if the book is built upon the religious base.
An OK book but not a great book. Schuller is a notorious name-dropper and I am not sure all his stories made the point he was hoping for. He tried to make the point that people are heavier now than they were back in the 1920's. to illustrate this he wrote of a conversation he had with the man who Renovated the original Yankee Stadium. The new seats were two inches wider than the originals. I suspect that the seats were wider because more women attend baseball games now than when the Stadium was built.
if you want to learn what Jesus said and meant in his Beatitudes, this is not that book. Schuller's positive, possibility thinking dominants his chapters. He does, however, offer some really good illustrations (among other illustrations that don't fit so well). And mostly includes on every Beatitude the kernel of Jesus' teaching at some place in every chapter.
