British designer Carolyn Quartermaine made her mark in the design world through her work for Joseph, Dolce & Gabbana and Donna Karan. Here she uses rooms as canvases; as a medium for self-expression and a means of creating moods. Inspiration is taken from the textures, shapes and colours around her as old is combined with new in a palette of sorbet colours - citrine, violet, tangerine and emerald. Influences are as diverse as a Tuscan frescoed wall and a decorated Cocteau plate.

Kate Constable was born in Sangringham, Melbourne (Victoria, Australia). When she was six-years-old, her family moved to Papua New Guinea where her father worked as a pilot.

Constable got her Arts/Law degree at Melborne University, then got a job at Warner Music. She started writing during these years.

She wrote several short-stories before becoming an author and after her first attempt at writing a novel she fell in love with the man that is now her husband. They have a daughter.

Constable's first official novel was The Singer of All Songs, in a trilogy called The Chanters of Tremaris. It was published in 2002, a few weeks after Constable's daughter was born.

If you enjoy gorgeous colours, fabrics, textures, shapes and design details, all beautifully presented in stylish photographs - every picture a visual delight, and all lovingly described by an interesting text - then you'll enjoy this book. I especially loved the sumptuous silks, beautifully gilded, in electric colours, as well as the sculpturally fine, 'feminine' curves and the variously witty visual juxtapositions. A elegantly beautiful book.
