I write and read historical romance along with other romance genre. I married my high-school sweetheart and raised 4 children. We have 8 grand grandchildren.

I admit all this tech stuff is a little over my head and leaves me frustrated enough to scream.

Singing with a group called the Silver Belles is one of my favorite past times. My husband and I enjoy fishing but other than that, I prefer the great indoors where the air-conditioning roams free.

Captured by the Viscount by Wareeze Woodson is an historical romance full of mystery, drama, danger, plots, hidden agendas, and jealousy- with a coerced into marriage element.
As with the other book of Ms. Woodson’s that I have read, this historical romance is written in the ‘old school style’- keeping true to the language, terminology, social norms, and style of the era. Having read her work before, I knew what to expect, so it didn’t take too long for me to settle into the flow of the story.
Lady Isabel Carlyle had high hopes of returning the Viscounts stolen property and at the same time collect her own stolen jewels. Little did she suspect that she would be caught red-handed with the bonds in her possession still, making her look like a thief in the night. After all, the Viscount wasn’t even meant to be in residence. He was supposed to be away at his country estate. But fate had other ideas, and so Isabel finds herself on the wrong end of a gun with an angry Viscount to contend with. How was she going to get out of this mess?
Viscount Matthew Rutherford caught the little thief in the act of stealing from him. He should turn her over to the authorities- but then he is in dire need of a bride to wed before the month has ended. There is a lot at stake. So, he gives Isabel a choice- marriage or jail. It’s not the best choice, but she really doesn’t want to end up in jail. Then there’s an added element of danger as someone seems to want Isabel dead. The fact that Matt has had two previous ‘fiancées’ die from strange ‘accidents’ right before the wedding, is now seen as sinister and the game of cat-and-mouse adds extra tension and suspense to the story. What happens next makes for an entertaining read.
While I did enjoy the story- there were some issues for me that caused some frustration. Again, there were a few contradictions in the story, where the character feels/says something so strongly one moment and then the next moment they are saying/doing the complete opposite. It just made some moments seem more contrived, added for convenience or added drama. I also noted that there was repeated information as we ‘see’ things happening with one character, and then experience it again with the other MC as the POV changes. There were other inconsistencies such as descriptions changing as we go from one POV to the other- such as one character checking a table setting and giving us a description, and then the POV changes and we get a slightly different description from the other MC. Then there was character name changes during the story. Although these issues didn’t detract too much from my enjoyment of the story, they did give me pause and had me flipping back over sections that I had already read to clarify things- I do feel that these issues should probably have been picked up during editing, or through a beta-read.
This hasn’t put me off reading more of Ms. Woodson’s work, and I am curious to see what I comes next.

Thank you, Wareeze Woodson!

Matt with that negative attitude and quickly placed judgment I think you need to spend some time in the stables - cool your boots

Isabel, I know you are supposed to be weak-kneed and light of thought but find your spine there is some serious mischief afoot!

The story does start out a bit on the far fetched side of possibilities but in the overall scheme of things it worked.
I was a bit miffed at the beginning with the whole woman's place and all but technically that was the norm for this period.
And truly Matt was one of the better ones - I would have chosen him, though with my luck I would have gotten the cousin - the other cousin
The storyline was engaging - I admit I even did the tear thing ( he was such an arse)
The mystery that loomed just out of my reach as a reader kept me turning the pages - I had to know who and why
Matt and Isabel are trying to navigate the hostile waters of their new union
Matt is a bit of an overbearing self pompous arse at times but for the most part, his heart is in the right place
Isabel IMO got the short end of the stick - her parents have passed and her guardian is her half-brother who did not want nor need to be saddled with a sibling. Her life has not had many highs

In a desperate attempt to right their lives both make rash decisions that set off a chain of events that may just cost them everything they hold dear.
Isabel decides to grasp her freedom but first, she must right a terrible wrong - the saying the road is paved with good intentions? that would be our innocent Isabel
Matt having lost two of his betrothed decides to smoke them out using a sticky-fingered bandit he now has in his possession. Two birds and all. He will reform the thief and get his answers. No one of worth has to be harmed...
Oh, Matt open your heart.

Can Matt save his new bride from irreparable harm?
Will Isabel forgive the brute of his cruel words?
Will she survive the waters that are being a wife?

While this is my first experience with Ms. Woodson, I was well prepared to like this book as I love the genre, was intrigued by the blurb and a little Jimmy Thomas on a cover is always a good thing. And like it I did! The damsel in distress was in a right pickle - choosing marriage or jail? With the wrong man, marriage could BE jail. She was poised and elegant however and her response proved entertaining. The erstwhile hero, while he was indeed being robbed, was yummy and proved himself a good match for our heroine. With some bumps along the way, this was a most entertaining and enjoyable book and I'm so glad I chose to read it. If you love a rollercoaster Regency read with a heroine who has a backbone and the ability to stand up for herself plus a hero who is yummy with a dash of naughty thrown in and a HEA/HFN at the end, you too will love this book.

It is the year 1802 and Lady Isabel Carlyle is a twenty one year old woman on a mission to restore her possessions as well as those not her own, she is hoping to reclaim her family jewels and return some important bonds at the same time, it is a risk, but one she hopes can finally free her from her current living situation. Viscount Matthew Paul Rutherford is in a bind of his own, in order to find relief from his current living situation, he has to find a bride before the month’s end, however, he hasn’t had much luck so far, his last two betrothed suffered from fatal accidents before their nuptials, so he is losing hope now of ever finding one.

As Lady Isabel heads towards the empty residence of Viscount Matthew, she is soaked to the bone thanks to the dismal weather she has walked through, but she is determined to see her errand through to the end, so she approaches under the cover of darkness and manages to avoid the patrol of the guards and levers open the door of his study. As she quietly enters, she locates her missing jewels but just as she is about to place the bonds into a drawer in the large desk, when the inner door opens and she comes face to face with the Viscount who it appears is home earlier than expected and pointing a gun straight at her heart. As he approaches her, she is paralysed with fear, but as he empties the bag she was holding of her belongings, she considers escape, however, soon realises that it would be a fruitless endeavour and would probably only get her killed sooner. The Viscount is less than impressed with this little thief and intends to make it known, but when she replies that he hasn’t the right, he mirthlessly laughs and states that he would normally call the constable and have her arrested at this point, however, he is quite taken with her looks and fiery countenance, but when she explains why she was there and the circumstances behind it, he does not believe her.

As the Viscount considers the position he is in, he considers the young woman and as she tells him more of her story, he is more inclined to believe that she is a liar and a thief, but when she professes her innocence yet again and asks him to let her go, he considers his options and while doing this, he takes her up to a room in the house and binds her to a bed, after removing her wet clothing and says he will return shortly. While he is gone, Lady Isabel tries desperately to escape from her bonds, however, she is unable to and just causes herself more harm, but her mind cannot stay still and she goes through all her options over and over again and as unlikely as it seems this is actually a better option for her. After a while, the Viscount returns and gives her a choice, either she marries him, or he calls the constable and she will be sent to the city’s gaol, she is full of disbelief that despite being a sensible person, she has been put into this position and she sees no way out of it, but will she agree to marry the Viscount and try to make him see the sense in what she is saying, or will she risk the gaol and the life it will lead to? This is a historical romance with an element of the unexpected as the story develops and the characters draw you into their lives and encourage you to follow them through trials and tribulations until the conclusion is reached.

Personally I love stories or novels set in the time frame where this beautiful novel takes place. Instantly I was drawn onto it, and let me say I loved the ambitions and personality of Isabel right from the start. She reminded me of myself, someone that more is a fighter for the greater good, doesn't care what she has to do to achieve it, she will make it happen. Perhaps not weighing in the costs to get there?

I loved the story and not only how it progressed, but also the other characters, they all seemed more realistic in a sense that one may actually expect. I was time transported to where these events of the novel took place.

Isabel wanted what was right. She went for it, but didn't succeed in her mission. Or did she? I got to say the sparks were literally jumping off the page when Isabel and Matthew first met, maybe the gun point was an add to the chemistry that Matthew held in his hand...though they seemed like two very different people but had a same ambition in a way at heart..in truth they needed one another more than they realized or that they dare would be willing to admit!

As I read on, I had shock, sadness, excitement, intrigue, and so forth! There was more to this novel than meets the eye, It wasn't just a story of marriage to satisfy the characters wants ...it had so much more than that. Not everything that happened between all the characters, was peaches and cream. there was a lot of hardship and suspense. Honestly the events that unfolded at a lot of times, left me in total disbelief. I said to myself, often actually, that I did not see that suprise coming.

This was a easy read, it was fun, full of twists and turns, and more! I loved it. I do love books in this era, but this quickly became a personal favorite. The author is superiorly talented, knew how to captivate the readers, and deliver a story, that where you think you know the drill on how it will progress, but in truth, you are quite wrong

Again, loved it. And to add an ending note, I loved how I got to see the characters grow of Matthew and Isabel, not just what they had between them but themselves. From the beginning to the end of the book, they did not end as whom they started as.

Truly, a very entertaining read. And it has everything I would think you would want in a novel and more. Pick this one up and read it. It will not disappoint, but make you long to see what the next plot twist is, and see how everything turns out :)

Bravo to this wonderful author. This was my first by this author, now I must go find more they have written, because I have had this book entwine my body and soul, and I cant just stop here, I need more. Its a longing that I must fill!

Thank you Wareeze Woodson for writing this wonderful read :)

I really enjoy these Regency romances.  The author does an amazing job of setting the scene and the details of how people act and their behaviour really makes you feel you are part of that era. This is a story about two people who don't know each other finding themselves in circumstances which eventually grow into love.

Lady Isabel Carlyle needs to escape her half brother and his cousin. She plans to leave them all behind but first she wants to get back at him by returning the bonds he stole from his employer. However, her plans change when she is caught by the Viscount himself. Now she is face with a choice. Either she marries him or she goes to jail.

Viscount Matthew Rutherford needs a wife. After being betrothed twice and his intended dying in suspicious accidents he doesn't think it will ever happen. However when he sees Lady Isabel in his study, he comes up with a situation to suit them both. She can either be sent to jail for theft or she could marry him.

When she accepts they now need to learn to live together and get to know one another from scratch. There is always the lingering doubt of is this a marriage of convenience or can love possible bloom. Also what happened to Matthew's other brides to be and will the same thing happen to Isabel. Matthew vows to protect her from harm but will that be from someone they know or a unknown source.

Summary

Captured by the Viscount is a historical romance thriller by Wareeze Woodson. The story starts with Isabel’s dangerous venture as she breaks into Viscount Matthew Rutherford’s house to restore the bonds that his half-brother has stolen. To her dismay, Matt catches her and mistakes her for a thief. Coincidentally, Matt needs a wife to inherit his wealth so he forces Isabel to marry him instead of putting her in jail. Prior to Isabel, Matt’s two chosen brides died under mysterious circumstances. When accidents start to happen, Matt is filled with guilt at the fate that he has given his wife. He promises himself to protect Isabel as he tries to unravel the reason behind the dangers that follow her.

Review

The book reminds me of my youth days when my heart fluttered at stories where the two lead characters have a bad first impression, and slowly develop feelings as they get to know each other. Then there’s also that thrill of solving a mystery.

What makes it more exciting to read is Matt’s family. I couldn’t quite assess whether his mother, Agatha, is just playing motherly, but has a hidden agenda. Or if his cousin, Vernon, is acting nice, but is plotting the next accident. Or if I’m overthinking because Sofia and Pamela’s obvious dislike for Isabel gives them motive. Along with Matt and George, I found myself also investigating.

Overall, I’m giving this 5 out of 5 stars. There’s something about romance in a historical setting under alarming situations that never gets old when it comes to fiction novels. This book has very charming leads, well-developed characters, a perfect setting, and an engrossing storyline. I highly recommend this book to readers who love historical romance thriller.

The Viscount Matthew Paul Rutherford has need of a bride before the month’s end. Previously, he had selected two different damsels from the marriage mart at Almack’s. However, both ladies met with a fatal accident before the wedding.
Were these really accidents or is someone causing these tragedies on purpose?

Lady Isabel Carlyle breaks into the viscount’s residence to restore his stolen property and retrieve her own. The viscount is out of town for at least a sennight, and she never once considers facing a pistol aimed directly at her heart. Now, presented with an unexpected solution to his problem in the form of the lovely thief,Matthew gives her a choice, marriage or gaol.

This is a delightful and suspenseful romance. I have read books by this author before but it has been some time. This book has unexpected twists and turns with danger and an unexpected villain or murderer in this case.

I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for story line, plot and characterization.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book after receiving a complimentary copy. This in no way affected my opinions which are my own.

This wonderfully written story is full of historical detail and time period social niceties all of which added to the feeling of being immersed in the era. When Lady Isabel Carlyle breaks into the Viscount Matthew Paul Rutherford’s residence she believes him to be out of town so does not expect to be faced with an angry Viscount aiming a pistol at her heart. Even though Isabel was trying to put the stolen property back and retrieve her own the Viscount Rutherford was not impressed. However, Matthew sees that this might be an unexpected solution to his current problem, of having to find a bride within the month. Having chosen two different damsels from Almack’s marriage mart who then had fatal accidents he is running out of time, and so offers Isabel a choice, marriage to him or gaol. The authors descriptive narrative bought both the characters and the setting to life. I was hooked from page one and the storyline flowed well and the plot twists kept me happily turning the pages. I recommend this enjoyable and engaging historical romance and look forward to reading future books by the author.

Captured by the Viscount by Wareeze Woodson captured my attention from the moment I was introduced to the main characters, Isabel and Matt. Isabel is a sweet woman who was trying to set things right and escape a terrible situation in her life, but was interrupted in doing so due to Matt pointing a gun at her heart. Isabel is given a choice to either marry Matt for stealing or goal.
From that moment on, the author makes us question what will happen next. I kept thinking I knew what would happen next, but was thrown for a loop! I felt the characters' fears, love, sadness and anger. I was unable to stop reading because I wanted to find out what would happen next.
The only thing I disliked about this book was the fact that some scenes in the book didn't give enough detail for me to clearly feel like I was in the book witnessing it. All in all, I would read this book again.

5 stars!

I love the way this author writes, the stories all have romance but added in is the element of crime against the main characters and a mystery that needs to be uncovered. Isabel and Matt are a sweet couple, I love that Matt becomes so protective and in love with her as quickly as he does, especially with the way they first meet. Throughout the book Matt tries to uncover who is behind the plot to kill his new wife, along with Matt, we as the reader are trying to figure that out ourselves. There were so many times I thought I knew who it was but was fooled until the end. I really enjoy period romances and with little twists and turns along the way, it keeps the book more exciting and me engaged. I look forward to more from this author.

In a time where options for women were few and far between, Isabel had to make her own.

Wareeze Woodson has crafted a story filled with twists and turns, delicious bad guys and honorable heroes.. we are immersed into a historical whodunit that starts way before the first page.

Pushed to her limits Isabel finally has to take matters into her own hands. Setting out to right a wrong, she ends up married to Viscount Matthew Rutherford!

Suddenly ensconced into a life of nobility, and all the drama that family involves, Isabel and Matt try to find their way forward.

A very well spun story, with a historically accurate feel for society of the time I enjoyed this book and its characters as they wove their way through the mystery in front of them.

Captured by the Viscount by Wareeze Woodson is a great historical romance that has a brilliant suspenseful element to it. This is such an easy book to get into, the characters were instantly likeable and the story well written. I was swept up into the story with no effort at all.
This is a pretty new author to me but I am definitely enjoying her writing style. Her books seem to be well paced and interesting. The story in this book was well developed - it was thought and such a good book. This is always a genre I have enjoyed and I think this author just does it so well. I love the characters in this book and the relationship the forge. This is certainly a book well worth adding to your to read list.

This was a great 5 star read. This is my first read from this author and I really enjoyed it.

Lady Isabel is caught trying to right a wrong, however the Viscount doesn’t believe her intentions. He has been trying to find a wife and he thinks he has found the one that can help him. Will Isabel choose marriage or jail?

As these two spend more time together they grow closer. We get twists and turns that add a great element to the story. I loved the connection between these two. I really liked Lady Isabel, she was a strong character and The Viscount, all I can say is he was hawt and perfect. I was really happy with the ending. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.

I really do adore novels set in this era, especially when written as well as this one was. Wareeze Woodson did a wonderful job keeping true to the time, and I enjoyed every moment in this historical romance, which a huge dollop of mystery.

Oh, Isabel. Wanting to do the right thing, or possibly to smite her horrendous brother, she tries to stealthily return what was stolen from Viscount Rutherford. Her efforts landed her on the wrong side of a gun, and then with the choice of marriage or jail. I cannot blame her for her choice, truly. At that point I was giving the Viscount the stank eye myself though. But what followed was a story that earned every one of the five stars I'm giving it. I was enjoying the growth of Isabel and Matt, their romance and trying to figure out WHO!

I enjoyed this historical romance story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her yet. This is a well written story about a thief who is trying to restore a right and then you have the viscount who needs to find a bride before the month is out. He has a solution to his problem when he gives this thief a choice. What will happen next you will need to read this book to find out. The characters are great and made the story fun to read. They brought life to the story as well as kept me turning pages to the end. They have great chemistry and just made the story for me. This is one of my favorite genes and I highly recommend this book.

I absolutely love this author! This is the second book that I have read by her and she just absolutely brings my favourite genre to life as I’m reading. I honestly cannot recommend this book enough; I was hooked from beginning to end. The detailed writing allowed me to imagine exactly what was going on in the story and I adored the characters Isabel and Matthew – Isabel may have been a damsel in distress but she could certainly hold her own. I loved Matthew – who doesn’t love a sexy yet arrogant Viscount?!? I loved the twist in the story too!
A fantastic read – I cannot wait to read more from Ms Woodson again in the future.

Discovering new to me authors is always such a nice treat!! I just love the way this author writes too! Captured by the Viscount was such a GREAT read. To say I enjoyed it is a mild statement because I absolutely loved it and was glued to its pages until the VERY END! I was drawn into the scene and time written for me to imagine. I was very captivated by the mystery to be solved as well. The unfolding events and mystery are very entertaining and keep you reading because well you just need to know what's going to happen next! LOVED the story and I am looking forward to reading more of this author's amazing work!!

Captured By The Viscount is a great historical romance by Wareeze Woodson. I have now read a few of her historical romances and have become a big fan of her writing. I was never a big fan of historical romance before but it is a genre that I’m now enjoying much more, thanks to reading Wareeze Woodson’s books.
Captured By The Viscount had me hooked from the very first chapter when Isabel is literally caught by the viscount. Matthew, breaking into his home. The story flowed really well and kept me gripped right up to the very end.
As well as the romantic story of Isabel and Matthew there is danger and intrigue as they try to work out who is trying to kill Isabel, and why.
I loved the growing romance between Isabel and Matthew, although both have no idea how the other feels. This causes many amusing interactions between the two as they skirt around their growing feelings toward each other.
If you like a historical romance with a bit of sexiness thrown in, then I’d definitely recommend Captured By The Viscount. It’s well worth the read.

I enjoyed reading this engrossing novel. Mystery, suspense, intrigue are all components of this page-turner. I loved the continued plot twists that are constant throughout the novel. It is not messy or confusing or overwhelming (you know those annoying use of fillers, ugh)- but a smooth transition to every reveal. The characters are easy to love and are relatable (there is a slap somewhere in the mix for Pamela). I refused to go to bed without finishing this novel (thank God for coffee); I appreciated the creativity and complexity in Wareeze’s storytelling. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Everything a historical romance should be! Lady Isabel Carlyle is just trying to do the right thing when she breaks into Viscount Matthew Rutherford’s home. Little does she know, he is desperately in need of a wife. But for Lady Isabel, things aren’t as bad as they could be. In marrying the Viscount she is able to escape her half brother and his horrible cousin. And for the Viscount it provides him a wife after two engagements that ended in death for his betrothed.

Wareeze sets a perfect scene. The perfect amount of drama, intrigue, danger and romance with characters that are fully developed and carry the story well. I look forward to reading more novels by this author.

Captured by the Viscount is a wonderful period read. It is one of the most wonderful historical romance reads that is both romantic and has a comedy twist to it. I was intrigued by the blurb, even though the cover was pleasing to look at, one should never read based on the cover alone. Twenty-one year old, Lady Isabel Carlyle is in a dilemma. Her half-brother, Edgar, is squandering her dowry and stealing her jewels. Matt catches Isabel breaking into his house, he immediately sees a way out of his current need to find a wife before the month ends. A woman in some sort of dilemma, the man steps up to the plate. I just love how this novel came together and the storyline is just wonderful.

I was delightfully surprised by this book! I don’t typically read historical fiction but decided to take a gamble on this story and I am so glad I did. I loved the constant banter between the heroine, Isabel, and her handsome yet pushy new husband. I was constantly looking forward to seeing what would happen next and read the book fairly quickly! If you are in search of a book that will pass the time quickly as you are transported into another era this is the perfect fit. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

What a wonderful period piece. I'm a sucker for an independent woman throwing ALL the sass in a man's world and this novel had it in heaps.

It had a lovely romantic twist with a fun murder mystery plot to it, my favorite combo! The characters were great and the linguistics and commentary were well established and easy to read and enjoy. I love how each character is riddled with flaws yet remains relatable. While I'm no historian or expert on the era, I felt it was an accurate representation of the times.

It was a great read that I highly recommend.

Another extremely enjoyable historical romance by Wareeze Woodson.
As I read more of their work, I am continually impressed by how real the characters feel. Their faults and flaws make them even more lovable and make it easy for readers to connect with the story.
A fast marriage under tense circumstances leaves Lady Isabel Carlyle and Viscount Rutherford reeling to get to know one another. The mysterious deaths of the Viscount’s two prior finances and attempts to end Isabel’s life make trusting one another difficult in this fast-paced page-turner.

I am a big fan of historical romance, and this story did not let me down. It takes place in the year 1802. We meet Isabel Carlyle and Lord Matthew Rutherford. Isabel desperately wants to get away from her half brother Edgar. Matthew doesn’t realize that Edgar is not trustworthy and that Edgar has been stealing from him. I spent a lot of the story wanting to scream at Matt and tell him to wake up! Neither Isabel nor Matt realize that they love each other. Enjoy reading how they discover their love and thwart the men who want to do them harm!

Captured by the Viscount by Wareeze Woodson is an historical romance with a twist. I not really a historical romance type of girl but I did really enjoy this book. I think because it was not quite the normal romance. There is nothing like a little bit of cloak and dagger going on and being caught in the act to bring them together in an unusual proposal. I loved the ongoing banter and constant back and forth between Isabel and Matthew. This engaging little tale is a delight.

This was the first book I have read by this author but I am well versed in the genre. I liked this story very much. I liked the twist and turns as I kept reading. I’m also a sucker for the forced into marriage/enemies to lovers style. The characters were intriguing. I really enjoyed following Isabel and Matthew on their journey and will definitely be checking out some of the author's other titles. Highly recommend.

I absolutely loved the way this story started. Just go ahead and open it up in this unheard moment of a lady robbing a viscount. Pure genius. It hooks immediately, and you just have to keep reading to find out what happens. It’s easy to love the hero, Matthew, but personally couldn’t stand many of the characters. Maybe that was intentional. I will say that there were instances where I felt like the main characters did not stay in character. Overall, great plot and real characters.

Matt irks me at times he is such a judgemental character and seems to have hatred for everyone. Isabelle is stuck between a rock and a hard place she doesn't know where to turn. Her drowy Edgar is not at all as he seems at first she an independent lady and knows how to settle this and take things into her own hands. Such a good read.
