Let the hunt begin …

After witnessing the murder of his mother by a mermaid, Prince Eryx Bloodhurst of Atlas makes a deal to sedate his need for vengeance: they’ll catch the mermaid who did the deed, but he’ll pay for it with his crown.

Arelle, third princess of the Blu Sea, has never known the true cruelty of the forbidden lands firsthand, but she will soon. The halfling prince with murder in his eyes and the sea’s songs in his blood will make sure of that.

He should kill her.
Perhaps, keeping her might be worse.

Two kingdoms are falling. One king is losing it all and another threatens to ruin everything. The rules of the land and sea are changing. Secrets of the past are spilling.

And all because of a prince and his little mermaid—whether they live or die—nothing in the realm will ever be the same.

In The Hunted, Bethany-Kris opens a new world—the 9INE REALMS—for readers with a dark fairy tale retelling, and pulls inspiration from the cult classic favorite and the Hans Christian Andersen original to redefine what it means to be The Little Mermaid.

First experience with this particular author and got to say The Hunted was bloody fantastic from start to finish.
I read this in one sitting and it managed to enthral me so completely, I was captivated from the second I started this.

Genre-wise this is a fantasy fairy-tale retelling loosely based on the little mermaid but with a much edgier vibe, this is definitely not the Disney version.
Set in a fantasy world where Mermaids are real this is the story of Eryx and Arelle both royalty in their own right.

The world-building here was fantastic crafting an experience that captured my imagination.
I also adored how we left this with so much scope for future progression in this world and I for one would definitely love to read more from it.
This was also incredibly well written with such a descriptive narrative I felt like I was right there alongside the characters themselves.

I liked both Eryx and Arelle equally they were both such incredibly complex individuals and I felt for both their individual pains.
I also thought they had such explosive chemistry when they finally came together.

So this gets a massive thumbs up from my camp I highly recommend this one it really was a great read.
My only issue now is I want to read more about these Mermaids.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of The Hunted.

I am so torn with my rating on this one. I loved the world building, the author’s imagination is brilliant and had me totally engrossed and not once was I bored. BUT, and it’s a big but, this superb world building totally took away from the fantastic character development that I love and have come to expect from BK, and didn’t get here. I’ve always said I love the way her characters love, this time I didn’t get that with Eryx and Arelle, that was all side-swiped with everything else going on, despite the whole mate bond thing that is PN romance.

Add to that the plot holes and story lines that left me hanging and desperate for more and, yeah. Totally torn. There were so many things I had problems with –

Poe
Poe’s mate and child
Zale, his mate and the child
Mav
Mattheu
ANTHIA (now THAT desperately needed more)
Anthia’s journal – a bit of a cop out to let it get wet and ruined I think because that held the answers Eryx and I, as the reader, needed.
All the other merpeople slaves
Eryx

This all should have been epic and/or pivotal parts of the book yet there is little to no mention of any of it. Why? Is their story a “to be continued” into a part 2? I’m not a huge fan of stories being stretched over more than one book (unless it’s BK) but if ever a story was too big for one book, it’s this one. The last quarter was way too rushed with all the action happening in that last part, so not enough time to develop and close off all that was happening.

So, 5 stars for the world building and bones of the story, but because I was left feeling frustrated and unsettled I’m rating this as a 3 star read. If there is a part 2 or their story continues into the 9INE REALMS series where all these plot holes are closed then I’ll definitely change my rating and review.

The Hunted is the sinister version of The Little Mermaid. This is seriously one of the best reads that you may finish it in one sitting. I can't appreciate enough with the awe-inspiring work Bethany-Kris has done here. The Hunted has been engaged fantastically, beyond imaginative bounds, taking every space of the world and keeping us engaged to the end.

Mermaids are hunted, collared and kept as slaves. Their bloods prolong longivity of humans so are used and sold. Mermaids need to come to land to mate, interconnecting them to come to the land above, which they consider as blessing and curse. Arelle's chance encounter with Eryx mother and the misunderstanding that Arelle killed his mother changes his view on mercy. His hatred towards Arelle is so strong that he is ready to punish/torture Arelle without any explanation or knowing the truth. He is angry and is in lust with her that makes him more furious. Eryx and Arelle start with hate connection. (mostly from Eryx side) The scenes of their interactions was so exotic, vengeful and menacing.

Eryx is no prince charming. We can label him as an anti-hero. He is the only living son of Miseal, King of Atlas as the rest of his brothers are mysteriously dead. He is half human-half merman, his mother is his fathers favourite slave mermaid. Miseal wants Eryx to follow his footsteps one day but Eryx would rather be free, stop mermaid hunting and be away with his mother - the only one who loves him. But that changes when his mother was killed by a mermaid.

Arelle is the third daughter of King Zale. Mind you Arelle's father is not as affectionate as the Disney story shows, instead he is selfish and absolutely horrid. Arelle is pleasant, caring and loving daughter. These qualities get her in trouble for her sisters. She is promised to marry Mav, Prince of the Emerald Lands. Everything changes when Arelle and younger sister Coral decide to accompany their older sister, Poe to swim to the lands of the water-orchand - where the water fruit grows best at the beginning of storm.

Characters which have nasty side:

Poe: Older sister to Arelle, she comes as strong and dangerous. She abandones Arelle and never defends the accusations thrown at her when Coral dies. But then again there are statements that shows she loves her mate and willingly gets captured so she can find him but what about the daughter that she left behind?

Mattue: He is one of a snake. Slippery and quiet as he takes out his opponents.

Eryx: Corval is a hunter who hunts mermaids. He helps Eryx hunt for Arelle. While in the end Eryx comes back for information from Corval about the whereabouts of Poe then reveals his secret. Corval is instantly slaughtered by Eryx, this is one scene of the book that has me shocked; still am.

There is still so much to go through Bethany-Kris perfect manipulations of her story. She used both the land and sea perfectly. Eryx is King on land by right and King in the sea too. How will those secrets reveal? How will he end Mattue, or will he? But for now there is a HEA.

I enjoyed this book so much! I loved everything about it. The cover is fantastic too. Can hardly wait for the next book of this series.

4 "Find me, my little mermaid " stars

I was surprised when I have heard that Bethany-Kris started a fantasy series and eager to read it. She is a to-go author for me when it comes to mafia books and I loved her writing style in previous reads.

The world she created is truly harsh and unforgivable for mermaids and their kind. They are hunted by the humans for their blood and for breeding purposes, living their number very low.
Arelle is a princess of the Blu sea , the 3rd in line to the throne, and Eryx is the only heir left for Atlas realm throne, but also he is so much more that not even he knows about.
After one tragic night when Eryx mother - a mermaid slave in his father harem- is killed , he sees in the seas where his mother drowned Arelle and with the thought to revenge he makes it his obsession to find this mermaid and kill her.

"He couldn’t be without this woman, and he constantly thought about killing her, too."

Arelle and Eryx are hot together and the bond that tights them together is often at the edge of hate and love. They learn thought that their connection is way stronger than anything else and in the end both accept it and fight for it.
The sex scenes are raw and wild and possessive.

“Love and hate. Both are possessive. Obsessive. Dangerous. Selfish, even. One kept me moving for years—the other got me to this point.”
“They are different, Eryx.”
“How so?”
“One is devotion to another soul. The other is devotion to your own.”

For a first time writing this genre I think B-K did good. It still has her print or vibe of political twists and drama like previous books, but it did had an entertaining enough plot. This is a retelling of the little mermaid but with a way darker edge and smut.

However, there are some aspects that didn't worked for me. The way they spoke and the bold words they used felt very different and out of place for those times. As well the ending left many loose ends to this story and I can see how the author can tie them together and hope she will. They did got ..lets say ...a mildly HFN tho.

As for my friend Lorraine who wanted me to check if this is a safe read , well.. I do recommend you to read this, it is entertaining and engaging and safe -no mermaid was injured in the making of this review-😁😁

I don't understand why there aren't more mermaid stories! I freaking love them whenever I get the chance to pick one up.

The Hunted by Bethany-Kris was a dark retelling of The Little Mermaid and lets just say Bethany-Kris NAILED IT!

I really hope she writes another book in this world because while there was an ending it was definitely a HFN ending vs. a HEA ending.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 🥂🥂
I hope everyone is celebrating happily and safely! ❤
And what better way to ring in the new year than with a spectacular 5-star read!!

When I'm looking for a great mafia romance read, I know just who to turn to. Bethany-Kris is one of the finest minds to ever write a romance story that could completely captivate me. So when I found out that she was trying something new, something extraordinary, I dove right in with some pretty high expectations... and she met every single one!

There are nine realms and they are occupied by merpeople and humans. They are ruled by both and many enjoy a long-standing harmony. No such peace exists in Prince Eryx's realm. Mermaids are hunted, enslaved, and killed for the power that their blood gives. Life above land is a life of ease for the nobility and a life of terror for the mermaids. Deep in the sea, another realm exists - where the respective mermaids live. Their lives are limited. They can't venture far from their hold, scared to be captured. They won't even mate, terrified of loss and almost certain death. But this is where Princess Arelle lives, beneath the tyrannical rule of her father. Amidst secrets and danger, Arelle and Eryx form an unintentional connection and... you'll have to read it to know what's up.

The Hunted was a Little Mermaid retelling with an intensely dark twist and unlike anything I've ever read before. It was at once satisfying and left me hungry for more. It was heartbreakingly painful, jaw-droppingly beautiful, and I can't wait to see what happens next. The story of Princess Arelle and Prince Eryx has only just begun...

”Everything is forbidden, but only if others know you did it.”

Ok so this was enjoyable. I’ve only ever read mafia romances from Bethany-Kris, so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from this fantasy retelling, but it was good. It’s essentially a dark little mermaid retelling that is sexy, brutal, and intriguing. There are some aspects that make it feel like a mafia read, but in royalty and power terms. There are also aspects that make it just feel like a smutty shifter romance. But all of those aspects blended together make it a great read.

***spoiler-ish part***
This story honestly finishes with a satisfying end, but there are loose ends left, and I’m not sure if the author will sew them up with a follow up of some sort, but I can 100% see where she would be able to. That being said, if there’s more to come, I’m here to read it!

Dark Little Mermaid retelling that works well. Also fated mates. Politics. Is this series unfinished? I need to find out but this story is a complete HEA but author is teasing out the rest of the universe. This was so good, even though it took me a while to get into it. Love the world-building. Also smoking hot. Full review to come.

Imaginative, engaging and so good.

I was really interested to see how this author was going to reimagine one of the classic tales. Not only did she recreate the original story from the past but she also created an entirely new world around it. Set in the sea and on land, there are other nine realms that have yet to be explored.

Princess Arelle is the third daughter to the King of the Blu Sea. She is promised to someone from a different realm. She somehow manages to get into trouble, not just once, not just twice, but a bit. She also follows her heart and in this case, it does not lead to rainbows and sunshine. It leads to the land, to a Prince that was hell-bent on killing her.

Prince Eryx is the last remaining son of the king in Altas and he is half-blooded. He has grown up privileged but skewed. He has whatever he wants when he wants it. His father has a thing for slaves or the mermaid variety and intends for his son to follow in his footsteps.

Then the unexpected happens with the Prince and the Princess and quite the addicting story ensues. I was really surprised by how much depth this story has. You could see this world forming, while mostly stormy, it was still rich with detail. This was certainly not the Disney version. It was dark and sexy and left me wanting more.

Lies. Betrayal. Suspense.

The Hunted by Bethany-Kris was a mildly dark retelling of The Little Mermaid. This book is the introduction to 9INE REALMS, a series of dark fairytale retellings written by different authors.

Arelle is princess of the Blu Sea. After a series of events, Arelle is the next in line to rule and must marry to unite the kingdoms but there's a problem... Prince Eryx is the heir to the Atlas Kingdom. After the death of his mother, Eryx seeks vengeance to kill the mermaid who murdered his mother.

Arelle and Eryx mate and form an unbreakable bond. With the bond, Eryx is able to capture Arelle and use her as he pleases. As the story progresses we watch as these two slowly fall in love.

Secrets are also revealed that could change the whole course of their lives. However, the ending left a lot of my questions surrounding the secrets unanswered and as the story came to a conclusion it was unclear if there will be another book in the future to tie everything together. Overall, it was an enjoyable read with so much potential. So much so, I am hoping the author will be able to expand this story one day or at the very least pen a prelude that focuses on the merpeople before the hunting began, chronicling the events that lead to the hunting of mermaids and ending where The Hunted begins. Now with that being said, this was my first read from this author and I must say her writing style definitely has me intrigued as I am looking forward to reading her mafia books.

I read this book in one sitting yet I was left dissatisfied. I like the story enough but the ending was too loose. I also wasn't found of the male love interest. He's too complacent, rude, passive and unfit to lead anything. He was detached from everything around him and that hindered his growth and character development. So many unanswered questions!

To be honest, I like the idea, potential and twisted take on the little mermaid story but in the end it fell flat.

In 2021 I’m making the resolution to not read any books about people under 20 (honestly I want to say under 25 but then I’ll exclude a lot of college romances that are my crack and I just can’t do it)!!!

And that resolution is starting now, because if we learned anything about this year, it’s that time doesn’t exist!!!!

Sorry to this book and it’s 18 year old heroine.

4.5 “9ine Realms Begin” Stars

I love The Little Mermaid.......no matter the format, I love it. When I read that this author was delving into its retailing, I was super excited to learn that The Hunted was going to be the darker, sinister, sexier version of The Little Mermaid.

I must admit that I love the dark side of things and this story definitely rated high in dark. Arelle is the princess of the Blu Sea and Eryx is the Prince of Atlas. The people of Atlas hunt the merpeople for and when Eryx witnesses the death of his mother at the hands of mermaids, he becomes a driven man to avenge his mother’s death by hunting Arelle and killing her. But Eryx forms a connection by hate that fuels the fire he develops for Arelle. It’s sexy, erotic and vengeful. There are lots of ominous twists and turns in the story as well as menacing characters that add a sense of foreboding through the entire story. This darker version is addicting and mesmerizing.

The writing by Bethany Kris was flawless. She transported me below and above the sea. But there were a few times I felt some confusion in the story and I must admit that I wanted more from the ending but in all it was a satisfying ending. I know that there will be other books in this series so I’m looking forward to more.

For lovers of Dark Fantasy, Romance, Paranormal Elements, Fairy Tale, and all things The Little Mermaid, The Hunted is for you.

Based on the cover and synopsis, I’m pretty sure, my fellow romance book loving friends, you have already figured out this storyline centers around a dark, enemies to lovers, retake on a mermaid type tale. Once again, I have to hand it to the author for surprising me with several twists/turns I didn’t expect that cleverly introduced then tied together multiple characters, their complicated pasts, destined futures, and a long list of transgressions and emotions. Go figure how she can make a mythical world seem so dang real my heart broke and was outraged at the unforgivable depravity/cruelty towards how a race of beings were treated. So much so I couldn’t help but resent every single character who accepted that mindset as normalcy, aided and abetted it, or even turned a blind eye to that atrocity. Eryx, the hero, that includes you, buddy. Yeah, you weren’t the cause, didn’t like it, but certainly wasn’t making an effort to set anyone free. There is even death here, too, folks. As usual, she also served up several off the charts, very graphic, naughty/dirty talking, smex scenes, as well.

As an avid romantic at heart, I unashamedly read for romance. I can take as little or as much steam thrown my way. Meaning, what floats my boat is the emotional connection. All I really ask for is a true genuine bond between a likable main couple and class not to be thrown overboard to make room for crudeness. Some of the smex scenes were treading on the latter side and questionable consent on both sides considering the unusual circumstances of how they became an unlikely, even unwilling couple at first. I lowered my rating one star for those reasons and the overuse of a trigger word that I personally don't like to see in my romantic reads.

Eryx was an angry, anti-hero throughout much of this book. If a certain something had not happened, I daresay he would have gladly fed this lovely mermaid to the fishes without knowing the truth and been done with her. That sinking feeling was a killjoy I must admit. Fortunately, you do begin to sense his anger lust was being replaced with a desire to be with her.

I, oh, so wanted more of Mav, a brief side character, like see him get his own HEA. That merman had it going on, folks. Handsome and ready to knock knoggins, run to the rescue no matter the consequences. He was like an underworld mafia don who ruled the land and the sea. His very presence commanded attention, so he was quite the catch.

This was just one stand-alone of a series written by various authors. I’m not sure how deep I’ll dive into the rest of these literary waters since I might find myself over my head in too deep of dark water. Just know I enjoyed this one and continue to look forward to what this author has in line for us next.

I am so upset about this one... The beginning of this book was amazing and it had SO MUCH potential! The story stars off with a bang and it seems like the stakes are high, the emotions were all there and I was super invested in the story. But that’s about it.
As the book progressed I realised we don’t actually get any character development or action. We are TOLD about important things that happened but we never actually witness them. We are TOLD that Arelle and Eryx fall in love but I honestly couldn’t believe it because all of their interactions are smut. There is never a point in the book where we see either of them falling for the other person outside of their physical chemistry. All of their interactions are reduced to sex scenes but we’re supposed to believe they have grown attached and fell in love.
It seems like either the author refused to write action scenes or they were cut off. Basically most of the important parts of the book, the ones that influenced the plot, weren't on the page.
Honestly, this book is a big “trust me, it happened” from the author. (It also needed a little more editing but that doesn't bother me that much)
I am so sad because this had me gripped in the beginning, but as the book progressed I just wanted to be done with it. If the action scenes where there and the book had more depth this would’ve been a 4 star. But alas, it is what it is and this is not it.

I can’t say I was a huge fan of this book. I’m certainly disappointed I wasted 5$ for the ebook. The book took on a much more dark and erotic tone than I was expecting. The hero is just so filled with rage most of the book that it was hard to like him. He’s been so blinded with bloodlust over what he believes was his mother’s murder that time and time again he just disappointed me. The world they live in is a pretty shit place as well no matter if you’re living on land or in the sea. Both the heroine and hero are part of the Royal family but you certainly wouldn’t know it the way they are treated and manipulated. The book had so many promising leads that I kept hoping the story would head towards but not only did my hopes not coMe true the end was super rushed and too open ended for me. I get the author has plans to connect all the books within the series and the nine realms and I’m sure has some grand plan that will be explosive when unveiled, I just don’t think having to read eight more books for answers to this one-book #1-is not cool.

This dark and twisted tale has become my favorite retellings of the Little Mermaid. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the Little Mermaid but, my oh my, The Hunted has lured me in.
"Eryx needed the mermaid to die.
Or Gods above ... she would kill him."

Arelle is the third princess of the Blu Sea. Mermaid. Sister. And now, prey of Prince Eryx Blood Hurst of Atlas. The merpeople stay away from the land. They are hunted and kept as slaves or worse. A chance encounter that leads to a tragedy has Eryx sight set upon Arelle. A hatred takes root. An obsession is born. The hunt has begun. Arelle cannot escape Eryx, no matter how hard she tries. Eryx vows to kill her. Even though he is ignorant in his assumptions. Arelle is an obsession he can't get rid of. She belongs to him... To do with as he pleases.

Eryx was such a complex character. I didn't know whether I wanted to smack him or root for him. I did hate him at one point. He wasn't outwardly cruel to Arelle but he was somewhat callous towards her. I felt sorry for Arelle. She belonged to a man who made his hate known everyday yet there was this bond that she couldn't and didn't want to escape from. Eryx held onto his hate for a very long time. Even after he found out the truth and that made me want to hurt him. That collar scene.... Urgh, it pissed me off. He lost major points and Arelle as well for accepting it. But... they ended up redeeming themselves. I was a little sad with the ending though. I wanted more. I felt like it abruptly ended and I wanted a little bit more of closure. But the first of the 9ine Realms books has definitely got me hooked and I'm positively intrigued by what's to come.

January 2020 -- 4 Stars

Well, I really wasn't sure what to expect. I don't read a fantasy like book from just anyone. This isn't my go to genre, so was apprehensive. I shouldn't have been. Bethany-Kris can write anything. a nice change of pace. Give this book and author a try. I hope you are as pleased as I.

Happy Reading!

*** 3.5 Let The Hunt Begin Stars ***

Hunted by Bethany Kris is an enchanting retelling of The Little Mermaid. Prince Eryx is the sole heir to the Atlas kingdom. After his mother is brutally murdered he is on a quest for vengeance. Eryx is out for blood, and will do whatever it takes to hunt the mermaid who murdered his mother. As the story progresses Eryx finds out that everything he knew was a lie. . .

“They’ll know it’s already been done. I’ve already mated.”

Arelle is of royal blood. Next in line for the throne, she is destined to marry to unite two kingdoms. But one faithful night changes the course of events. Arelle is captured by Prince Eryx, and makes a shocking discovery. . . she is his mate. A prince hell bent on getting his revenge and a mermaid princess who would do just about anything to protect the one she loves. What could possibly go wrong?

“You belong to me. And unless told otherwise, you will behave like it, Arelle.”

In a world full of death and distain, the lust of power and annihilation that gives the retelling of The Little Mermaid a cutting edge! Eryx is a hardened male, who would lose his crown for getting justice for his mother. But leasts expect to meet a young mermaid who makes his heart beat once more. Secrets, lies, and betrayal Eryx & Arelle must prevail on the fight for survival.
. . .
Even though I liked the ending, I did feel that there was a lot of plot holes. Some parts of the book were confusing just a bit. I'm hoping we get to see more of this world that BK created.

You know a book is amazing when you dream about it. When you can't go to sleep because you're trying to figure out how you're ever going to find the words to explain how much you loved it. And then when you do close your eyes, your mind is filled with visions of a mermaid, calls across the sea, and a smirking prince.

Because I love everything else I've read from this author, I already expected greatness. But BK took my expectations and blew them out of the water with this one. I fell in love with the world she brought me into, both the land and the sea. The histories and struggles of them both. The merpeople trying to survive the ruthless ways of their own kingdom and risks from the land. And the humans trying to continue thriving off the pain and suffering of the merpeople. The characters drew me in and wouldn't let go, making it hard to put this book down for even a moment.
Arelle and Eryx, both driven by the love of their family, made decisions that brought them together and what unfolded was a romance of push and pull. Of harshness and softness. Of learning that the other was made just for them, even if they hated the idea at times.
But the things happening around them, a crumbling kingdom in the sea and a vicious king on land, made their happily ever after that much more unattainable. The violence of both their worlds threatened to tear everything apart and neither was prepared for the twists and turns that would stand in their way.
The action, the physical battles between the merpeople and landwalkers, and emotional ones between Arelle and Eryx kept me both wanting to read faster, to see what would happen next, and savoring the story and wishing it would never end.
I liked the other point of views we got throughout the book as well, to see the schemes others were plotting. To see things all come together and go directly against the plans another character had made. The excitement of knowing it would all come to a head in the most glorious of ways. And it did.
The ending was so very good. So many things I'd hoped would happen did, so many truths were exposed. And as the storms battering the kingdoms heightened, the story rose with it, all the anger, rage, and ruthlessness coming to the forefront in the most satisfying way.
The way the author has taken this fairytale and completely reinvented it, taken details from the story and made them her own, had me more than amazed. And if you think you already know what will happen, you have another thing coming.
My review doesn't do this book justice, but I tried. Lol. I cannot wait for more from this world, from the 9ine realms, from the sea and the land.
I know I will be hearing siren calls for days to come.

Mon avis en Français

My English review

This is a series by Bethany-Kris and after discovering her mafia novels, I must say I was really intrigued to discover her in another genre. And how could I resist a retelling story, especially one of The Little Mermaid? I couldn’t!

Arelle has always been intrigued by the world, a world she has no right to discover. But when her sister takes her much further than they are allowed, and they stop the suffering of a captive mermaid who asks to be killed, they don’t expect their world to be completely turned upside down. Because indeed, the son of this mermaid (who lives on the land) is determined to take revenge even if he does not know the truth about this act and he will do everything to find his mermaid and make her pay!

It was an interesting novel and I really enjoyed following the main plot which is full of revelations and twists. Apart from that, I sometimes had a little trouble with the relationship between Eryx and Arelle which is sometimes a little unhealthy. Anyway, I was curious to see what was going to happen and I wonder what the next step will be because there will be many upheavals to come!

A rather nice fantasy novel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS

WOW...I shouldn't be surprised that I've fallen in love with another of Bethany-Kris' worlds!

I loved her rendition of the classic fairy tale, The Little Mermaid. It's definitely not a hearts and flowers kind of story, but still an utterly addicting read. Arelle and Eryx are an odd couple considering one is hunting the other, yet the chemistry they share is intense.

I am eagerly awaiting more from the 9INE REALMS. The Hunted by Bethany-Kris is an EPIC read that will absolutely join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!

Ms. Kris does it yet again and what a captivating story this was as it drew you right in from the very beginning and just a few pages in, and I was totally enthralled to the very end.

I have to say that I was a little apprehensive going into this story whether I was going to love this story or not as this is not the norm for Ms. Kris because she is really known well for her amazing mafia romance reads but, I can say after reading this story that was filled with secrets, lies, deceit, and a bit of mystery I don't know why I even thought that in the first place because everything this author writes is just simply amazing, and I have to say that I loved it so much that I didn't want it to end and had there been a book two I would have dived right into that one too!

I have to say I loved the character's Erxy and Arelle. Arelle was just the sweet and kind a caring type with just a big heart who could be smart, sassy, sexy and flirty.

Erxy was just one of those characters you felt sorry for as even being a prince he never felt he belonged or was loved by no other than by his mother alone, and he also carried around a bit of darkness within him but, once the mother he loved so desperately was taken from him that darkness magnified, and he became more intense and bruiting and down right dangerous and full of vengeance.

What I think we loved most about this story was the battle of wills between these two main characters. Erxy and Arelle she was the light, and he full of darkness and that fine line of love and hate but, not matter what the draw the mystery the sexual desire and tension always remained there between them and that was hotter than hell and their chemistry off the charts.

I loved that this re-telling was a bit dark, as in made the story more interesting and even more intense and even believable that a story like this could actually be true. I have to say, Poe was also one of those characters that was not easily forgotten.

We loved the story from beginning to end and everything in between as the story was quite enthralling, and it had a great cast of characters whether you loved them or hated them it was the perfect mix of both and no matter what you do you can not out run your fate. I also loved how Eryx also called Arelle his little mermaid all the time because even when he hated her his calling her this was always infused with affection, lust and even perhaps even love and that always put a smile on our face.

"Just mesmerizing !"

The First read of 2020! And it was on the boiler side!
The Hunted is A book that opens a new world to us - with a lot of authors writing a story in it.
The Little Mermaid, everyone knows it. Yet we get something completely different and with chances to be really epic, as it had everything! I feel like something was lost in the middle of The read where I felt like The few last places were for.
Arelle is A mermaid princess that can be called a free spirit a little, and she is in line to the throne, but she has her sister before her.
Eryx is a prince of Atlas kingdom where mermaids slave after hunts. Like his mother. A prince with such origin can't be something usual, right?
Those two see each other at first at the event that set them wrong. One hates another, but when fate has a chance to change that, all possibilities Are open and NO ONE can suspect what will happen.
I had enjoyed reading this book and I would love it if I was not left confused by some parts that felt inconsistent and even plotholish to me somehow.
I hope another book in this series will be better in that part, as this world has real potential!
