This is book three in the Cassidy Kincaid series and Cassidy is now a professor teaching Geology to young students at her local university. Her real job is studying volcanoes and trying to gain data to provide information of when one is likely to erupt. She is away on the university’s summer geology camp with first and second year students and at the end of it, she will depart and take up a new posting in Hawaii where one of its volcanoes has recently erupted ad is looking forward to it.

The two minibuses taking the students home, depart from the camp, leaving Cassidy to go home alone and pack. She is awoken in the early hours by a frantic phone call. One of the teaching aides, who was in charge of one half of the group, is calling to say one of the students, Izzy Ford, is missing. It seems she hasn’t picked up her backpack and important notes for her final assessment when they all got back to the university grounds and no one knows where she is. She was asleep in the back of the minibus, when the group last stopped at a service station and no trace of her is left.

The dean of the university calls Cassidy and tells her she must follow up and try to find her. Due to Izzy’s father’s important position, he doesn’t want the police called and this isn’t the first time she has done this apparently! Cassidy reluctantly attempts to track Izzy’s last footsteps and soon becomes embroiled in another case of seedy underground clubs, possible sex trading groups and clues to her own tragic past. She gets further flashbacks to her fiancée Pete’s sudden death and gets no real assistance from Bruce, the agent she got mixed up with in Costa Rica whilst investigating her step-brothers disappearance.

Add in a biker gang, sex tapes and a distant father and Cassidy is right in the thick of it again. If she doesn’t manage to find the girl, then her and her assistant will probably lose their jobs and be unable to work in their chosen field again! Her need for a therapist is never higher than in this episode and her past is still haunting her almost two years after Pete’s death. Another interesting case for Cassidy to solve, while also acting as a professor of sorts and enjoying a bit of the outdoors. Clues to previous questions may be found in this book and links, often dangerous, are there for her to follow if she dare. Another good read in this series. I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Rescuing Reeve, Cassidy Kincaid #1 - Interesting with plenty of surfing for those who hang ten. The rest of the story held my attention and it was easy to finish. Another pass at editing would benefit the reader. 4*

Finding Izzy Ford, #2 - Fast-paced, interesting and easy to get pulled into the story. The story picks up a few weeks after the end of Rescuing Reeve. Easy to finish in one sitting. 4*

Exposing Ethan, #3 - Picks up five days after the ending of Finding Izzy Ford. If you ever wondered how stupid this supposedly smart woman actually is, this is the story. Her self-interest disregards laws and common sense; she plans her work and related projects but freezes with emotions and brain freeze when she stomps into action against criminals. What an idiot but this trait, stupidity?, makes this an interesting and fast-paced read. This lack of planning reinforces how out of her element she is and her naivety (for which we can blame the author, LOL). The question about her father is left hanging and there is no doubt, after the last chapter, there is another book to read. 4*

Cassidy's Crusade, #4 - The final book of the series picks up hours after the end of Exposing Ethan. Cassidy acts smarter in this book. The fast-paced, Interesting story lines answer most questions left unanswered in EE. Easy to read in one sitting. 4*

Her Final Mistake, Meg Dawson #1 - Interesting with good: characters; good dialog; and storylines. I was pleasantly surprised. 4*

Her Final Goodbye, Meg Dawson #2 - Interesting with intense moments. Good characters and many storylines. While not necessary, I recommend reading the first book in this series for greater enjoyment. 4*

Her Final Truth, #3 - Another interesting, intriguing addition to the series, which starts a month after Her Final Goodbye ends. Hard to put down with interesting characters and well written blending of the old with the new story lines. While a good read on it's own, the books should be read sequentially since there is a foundation continually being constructed with each story. I like the fact that Meg does not have a battling, disrespectful relationship with the law and that she does stop to think about consequences. Of course, sometimes it is just a thought. 5*

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I plan to go back and read the others in this series, as I believe they would provide me with some background on Cassidy Kincaid.
This novel begins with Cassidy and her team finishing up camp for a geological study for the university. Cassidy needs to return home to begin prep for another study trip to Hawaii, but she is called by the university and told that one of the students on the trip never made it back to school. It seems that Izzy Ford left the van at one of the stops for gas, and no one noticed until too late. Now, Cassidy is tasked with finding Izzy in a race against the clock. Cassidy is pulled into a world of sex trafficking/pornography as she tries to find Izzy.
What I liked - Cassidy is strong, and has dealt with many issues, including the loss of her fiance in an earlier book. She has issues, but she is working through them. I also liked the cliffhanger ending.
What I found to be unbelievable - Cassidy was able to go to large cities and track people easily. Cassidy was able to drive everywhere on very limited sleep. She was able to handle a large motorcycle with very little experience, she went into extremely dangerous situations totally unprepared (who would do that, esp. when she knew the danger??) I found some of that to be completely far fetched. However, since I didn't have the background of the character from the previous books, perhaps I am missing something, but I still find it difficult to believe that someone would knowingly go into that situation, esp. considering her past.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with a copy of this book so that I could review it. All opinions are entirely my own.

Enjoyable

This is the third book in the series, but there is enough background provided that you can read it without having read the earlier books (I haven’t). However, the book ends with much unsettled, so you will likely want to read book four when released in 2020. The premise is a little far-fetched, with a geology professor (Cassidy Kincaid) tasked with finding a student (Izzy Ford) who went missing on the way home from the summer field camp, and the student getting mixed up with a crime syndicate. The author has created some interesting characters — some you will like, some you will tolerate, and some you will probably despise. The journey to locate Izzy and the problems that Cassidy experiences, as well as connections to past events, were creative. The book is worth the read.

One of our heroine's students has gone missing and now she is out to find her before it is too late.

This is book three in the series and works well as a standalone. There are references to previous books/events, but nothing which is essential to enjoying this one.

This is an mystery story with a good dose of action to it. The story is well written and easy to read with an engaging plot that has a lot of twists and turns to it. There is actually rather a lot going on, but fortunately our heroine is tough, smart and up to the challenge, just the way I like them. I found the story to be very enjoyable and look forward to going back and reading the previous stories, as well as reading future ones.

Highly recommended.

I received an ARC from Hidden Gems for review purposes.

This book is action packed, which seems to be a characteristic of The Cassidy Kincaid series. Unfortunately the action seems to come from some really poor decisions that Cassidy makes. In this story one of her students takes off and she sets out to find the student.

She finds her, then loses her. You could see that coming, so clearly another bad decision on her part. At the end of the story she makes a discovery which impacts her view of the world as she knew it. From this discovery we knew her life will be a tangled web going forward.

A page-turning adventure!

What I like about this book:
1) Action galore.
2) Page-turning suspense.
3) Cassidy's dedication to finding / helping a student.

What I did not like about this book (why I subtracted a star):
1) Some of the far-fetched antics were hard to believe.
2) The story was not finished to my satisfaction. Although the main mystery was solved, it ended on a cliffhanger of the larger background story.

A Kindle Unlimited Read.

Cassidy Kincaid is an unusual heroine. A doctor of geology, an expert in volcanoes, a university professor, and a young woman still in mental pain following the death of her fiance. When one of her students goes missing on a routine ride home after a field trip, Cassidy is determined to find her, even if it puts herself in danger. Uncovering a link to people smugglers and prostitution, she is warned off by the FBI, but forges ahead anyway. Cassidy Kincaid is Everywoman; she is you and me, doing what is right regardless. What a brilliant creation by Any Waeschle.

I was disappointed in this book, but that could be due to the fact that I didn't know much about this book before I started reading it. It turned out to be much darker than I had expected and didn't put me in the frame of mind that I actually wanted. Not only that, but I had trouble understanding the thinking of Cassidy Kincaid. And the ending left me wondering what happens next. Too many loose ends for my liking. Maybe other readers will judge differently.

Another badass woman for my role model collection: Amy Waeschele has a gift for writing women, especially smart, resourceful, respected-in-their-various-fields, courageous women. Cassidy Kincaid is no exception. Together with her additional gifts for storytelling and dialogue that never wastes a word, Waeschele never disappoints.

I really loved this series until it came to this book. This book was missing everything the other books had. In the other books, Cassidy, for the most part, was smart, witty, and you could just relate to her. In this book she made extremely dumb decisions, I still don't know what happened to Dutch, and there is a cliff hanger at the end of the book. Hopefully, the next two are better.

Unputdownable

When one of her students disappears on a field trip, volcanic seismologist Dr. Cassidy Kincaid is tasked with finding her. Abduction or runaway? The search sends Cassidy down unexpectedly pathways, both physically and emotionally, while revealing unexpected truths. Unputdownable. And all too real.

I enjoyed reading the continued saga of Cassidy Kincaid. It is not necessary to read the previous books in this series, the author does a good job of explaining the background information.

Izzy Ford isn't the most likable character but everyone has problems so I'll give her a chance to do better. She gets credit for having a screwed up life shes trying to deal with and I'll save judgemental comments for someone else.
Izzy isn't the only person there is to worry about. Cassidy, the star, is a very impulsive young professor who goes off half-cocked much of the time. She's very impatient and doesn't take her safety seriously. Not even when danger lurks all around her. She's gutsy though and I do admire that.
She has a friend in the FBI who is a regular in these books. He kind of manages to keep her from totally self-destructing or getting killed. She's got a lot of baggage associated with her former lover/fiancé who died in a car crash. It's a dark and lonely world without him..
