SEASON TWO
LITTLE MERMAID #5 Queen of Mermaids #6 Heiress of the Sea #7 Throne of Change #8 Goddess of Water
Born in Leeds, I lived a very normal life until I got bored one day and decided to travel the world. Since then I've worked on a Banana Plantation, cleaned ACDC's dressing room and been a professional clown. I climbed to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the top of Kilimanjaro. Nowadays you'll find me being a climbing frame for my two young children, working in a school, and renovating my home. Did I also mention I wrote some books? I hope you enjoy them! Queen of Mermaids: A Little Mermaid Retelling is an original story that is an interesting twist on The Little Mermaid. My only issue is how unlikable the main character is. I would love to see where the story goes from here.
And not sure if I want to continue. I was expecting more of Azia joining forces with this kingdom to continue on her quest. The princess and Hannah are not sympathetic characters, and it appears that the villainous tone is overwhelming. There are a couple disconnects as well in the plot. Who started it in the newspaper and the lonely princess whine is hard to take. I usually love these fairytale interpretations, but not this one. I'll most likely wait for the three other sections to be published and read the reviews to decide if I finish this storyline.
The first book in the Little Mermaid's ever after is kind of tough to connect to. Her daughter is completely opposite what we've known the Little Mermaid to be and that takes some serious getting used to, but somewhere in the middle of the book the story becomes super interesting and completely engaging.
Title: Queen of the Mermaids Author: J.A. Armitage and Audrey Rich Narrator: Valerie Rose Lohman Genre: YA, Fairytaie Retellins Standalone: Nope Part of a Series: Book 1 Kingdom of Fairytales: Little Mermaid POV: Princess Blaise Steam Level: None 2.5/5
I have to admit that I HATED the main character. I almost DNF'd this book but instead I just sped it up to get through it faster. At it's core, Queen of Mermaids is a redemption story but I found Princess Blaise to be pretty deplorable. She's rude, selfish, and racist, even in her rare moments of "oh maybe I should be nicer" she's not. The authors spent too much time showing her need for redemption and not enough time redeeming her. I definitely will not be continuing with this series.
I received this audiobook for free from StoryOrigin. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I admit I was disappointed in the ending, jump off a cliff much? But I enjoyed the story it is a different take on the old fairy tale. The narrator did an okay job, did not put much excitement in her voice where it would have been appreciated. How can someone hate merpeople? They always help those in trouble on the ocean. I am hoping all the stories tie in together at some point, just to give a good ending since all the primary characters seem to be in some kind of trouble related to their individual story. Looking forward to the next one to see what happens.

a short and sweet romance read/listen. a twist on the little mermaid that leaves on a cliffhanger. daughter of little mermaid dosen't know her parents story and grows up believing mer people are the cause of all problems, until the reality of that lie becomes glaringly obvious. can she convince her bff of the truth in time to save herself and her family?!?
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
retelling or better yet continuation, this story mainly concentrates on Blaise ( daughter of the Little Mermaid). A good start to this story looking forward to reading more.
I love Little Mermaid re-tells and I thought I saw this on a clean list, but it had a cuss word a couple of sentences in. Wish I could have read it, but I don't like to put those words in my head!
My review is based on the quality of writing and the narration. I didn't finish the book because it reminded me why I stopped reading Young Adult. Blaze, the main character is so full of prejudice and hate and nothing is going to change her mind. An hour into the story and I still didn't know why she believed everything she'd ever heard from the AML-anti mermaid league. When she meets a merman, that she's attracted to no less, she desperately clings to her hatred of his people. When her mother turns into a mermaid in front of her she's so betrayed and angry she storms away. It was just too much for me.
However, the writing itself is clean and well-written. The story just wasn't for me at this time and my current emotional state.
The narrator does a lovely job. She's easy to listen to and is totally believable as a teen girl.
All in all, I give this story a 3.5 and the narrator a 4.
1-5 scale and what it means: 1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad 2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing 3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive 3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love 4: Solid mind candy / worth reading 4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read 5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure
J.A. Armitage is back with a new Kingdom of Fairytales series story arc, this time teamed up with Audrey Rich. I love the concept of the overarching series: what happens after the “happily ever after” moment in our favorite fairytales. The first story arc (separately reviewed) was about the Sleeping Beauty ever after and it was wonderfully superb. Now, in Queen of Mermaids: A Little Mermaid retelling (Kingdom of Fairytales, Little Mermaid Book 1) we take on Hans Christian Andersen classic story. It’s a twisted world here, with Princess Blaise of Atlantice (daughter of the Little Mermaid) starting off a member of the Anti Mermaid League aimed at eliminating menfolk. A merman she names Fish might have something to say about that, as might a little something she finds out about herself at the tale’s end (that’s all I’m going to say on that as I refuse it spoil things). A great start that’s extremely well written, I’m look forward to the future installments and highly recommend this one.
Blaise was living a sheltered and lonely life at the palace. So much so that entering the AML, a group of people with living hatred towards merpeople, became her only source of friendship. Bossed by her best friend Hannah, Blaise was blind with lies until a striking merman caught her eye and changed her views. Now with her family secret out in the open, Blaise is determined to overcome the rift and return peace and understanding. However, this might prove an impossible task. Extra fast read that is built on the base of the Little Mermaid, twisted and tweaked into new form, set in a magical world. The story keeps the reader engaged all the time, not diverging from the main storyline by much, only to provide the necessary additional details. I am intrigued by Fish, curious to find out his background, his story, and his name :)) looking forward to the next book!
Princess Blaise beliefs about merpeople have been influenced by the Anti-Mermaid League and, as you may suspect, are all about hating them and trying to banish and even kill them 😱 🙈... As Blaise is unaware of her mother, Queen Antonella, true nature, her life is suddenly turned upside down when she meets a gorgeous merman who makes her heart beats as crazy, then she discoveres her own mother is a mermaid and then her "best friend" and lider or the AML is figthing against her family, wanting her father, King Ermias, to abdicated the throne 😳💔😢... Soon enough, she discoveres all AML says are lies and all the mistakes she has made following its ways, so she has to do something to help her parents and to do what is right for the merpeople, but what?, what she can do??? 🤔... Can't wait to read the next book in this series 😍
A different spin on the Little Mermaid. In this story, there is a Princess and the mermaid is a dashing young man, a merman.
The princess does not like mermaids and neither does her people. There is a group of Mermaid haters. But the princess stumbles upon a merman and a secret that just might lead her to a change of heart.
This is part of a bigger series, Kingdom of Fairytales, and I wish I had discovered it sooner. The release a book every Wednesday about different fairytales that all sort of tie into each other. I definitely need to go back and start from the beginning.
The story is cute, I do wish the other parts of it were in audio because the narrator was really good for the part and I enjoyed listening to her.
I received the audiobook for free from StoryOrigin in exchange for an honest review.
Azia isn't the only descendant suddenly dealing with the return of a curse! Blaise is about to have her world turned upside down!
There is a lot of story packed into this book, and things move quickly. I get the impression the authors have ambitious plans for the next installments and with the way this one ends (a big reveal, not a cliff hanger!) I can't wait to see what comes next.
This is a fast paced read broken into chapters that can easily be enjoyed on your lunch break. It starts the second quartet of books in the Kingdom of Fairytales. New characters in a neighboring kingdom, but there are a few things (and physical characteristics) that seem really familiar.
Blaise has been led to believe merfolk are dangerous to humans, and that they are to be hated. They are beneath humans, far beneath. A lower life form. But when a very attractive merman shows up she has a hard time holding on to that hatred. He is confident, jovial, and caring. So different than what she had thought! Could what she has believed all of her life be wrong?
In the beginning of the story Blaise wasn’t a nice person (don’t worry, she says so herself), and I mean especially when a certain fact comes to light, but she learns and knows she has to work hard to try and correct her mistakes.
Great, fast read. Lots of fairytale story “pull ins” in regards to classic parts of mermaid stories we’ve all heard. It was nice because it helped pull the story together. A sexy merman and a prednisone young girl make this story quick with interesting banter/conversation.
My only complaint is a personal preference one: that dang girl liked that boy way to fast for me! The build up wasn’t there for me. But like I said that’s a personal preference.
If I ignore that then this book falls into the great story pile!
Queen of Mermaids brings to us a new kingdom, with a new story. Blaise is a girl who feels like her whole world comes up to be a lie. Everything she knew and believed gets twisted when she starts to learn about the truth. She always hated the mermaids, thinking they were vile creatures. But are they? Or is it just a lie, like many others?
In the beginning I couldn't connect with Blaise the same way I felt I connected with Azia, but now, after finishing book 1 of this part of the series, I'm loving her character development! A beautiful world too, this ws super fun to read!
Princess Blaise is the Little Mermaid's daughter. She is raised on land and is in an anti-merfolk group learning their doctrine believing that Merfolk are evil and they do bad deeds to humans. This story really makes you want to dislike her and I did. Through this story she is saved by a merman and he tells her that all her beliefs about merfolk are wrong. Through the rest of the story you learn more about Blaze and her mother. The ending left me wanting to know where the story goes from here. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and this is my honest review.
I loved listening to this story. It was such an interesting new take on the Little Mermaid stories you all know and love. This is written in the view of Ariels daughter.
It starts out in a different way that I would have liked, with no explanation of why, but you do get to find out later on which makes it ok. I am very glad it wasnt left as a loose end.
Narrator does a great job giving a feel for each character and their own voice. You really get drawn in.
I was given a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I enjoyed it very much it, but the beginning was hard to get into as I just didn't like the main character, but she starts to change. I could not understand how the daughter of The Little Mermaid could hate Mermaids! Then I found out and it really took off from there. I like the way the story developed from that point and I am looking forward to seeing how they connect in with the first stories!
This story packs a powerful punch tackling prejudice towards merpeople. There really isn't a lot of down time and there are only a few major characters. If you started the series with Sleeping Beauty, this does not pick up Azia's story, and can be read independently.
I enjoy the concept of these books, looking past ever after is really fun. The narration is ok, the pace is great but I wish there were more differentiations between characters besides accent. I can’t wait to read the next book.
Parents: there is mild language but no intimate relationships or scenes. PG13 at worst.

Queen of mermaids book 5 in the fairy taill retellings and book 1 of the little mermaid retelling. I really loved this book, Blaise is in the beginning truly dissapointing. I think it is sad that she did not keep the original names from the queen and king and keep melody. The storyline is great and shows you all you need to know for now. It is intrigeing, exciting and above all a wonderfull adventure.
Queen of Mermaids is book five of Kingdom of fairytales series and book one in Little Mermaid retelling.
I really loved being introduced to those new characters and really loved Princess Blaise. Didn't want this book to end and can't wait to read Heiress of Sea.
I have received an arc of this book by J. A. Armitage.
Here we are again in the magical worlds of the Kingdom of Fairytales and this round we get to watch as the author writes the stories following eighteen years after their happy ever after. I am really enjoying these episodes as they are the perfect size and each episode is worth a week of life for the characters. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
I love this one The Little Mermaid has never been better. We have Princess Blaise of Atlantice (daughter of the Little Mermaid and her Prince) and She is a member of the Anti Mermaid League shocking right. She doesn't like them at all and doesn't even know her mother is or was one. Then Blaise is saved by Fish, a merman, from drowning and everything she thought she knew goes up in smoke.
It took me a bit to get into this story since I really disliked the lead character. I am glad I stuck with it because she did begin to grow and now I am excited to see where her journey leads next. I love how this series continues and twists our well known fairytales into completely new and exciting stories
I listen to this book on Audible books, narrator does a nice job. This story just goes to show that if you believe in redric that there is Not actually documented proof you will make a fool out of yourself. The main character is a princess that does just that believing that the book she quotes is true without fact. This leads to quite a few problems when she has a change of heart.

This extension of the Little Mermaid is cute but I was disappointed in the main character, Blaise. For someone who didn’t like merpeople, she changed her mind rather quickly with very little push from those around her.
