A Heroes at Heart novel. These men, raised in the loving foster home by the benevolent Miss Ethel, discovered there lies a hero in all of us. Based loosely on the fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.Scenes and language similar to what you would find in an R-rated movie.
As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
It is bittersweet to come to the end of the Heroes at Heart series. Each story is a standalone with the common thread of a foster family lovingly lead by Miss Ethel and each loosely based on a fairy tale.
Cas is the last brother still single. He is quiet and hardworking. A mechanic by day but his true calling is in the gorgeous furniture he makes in his spare time.
“It seems like I spend a lot of my time looking back at the past. It’s only been recently that I started looking forward.” ...”But until I reached back and touched my past, I couldn’t move forward.”
Bianca travels back to the last place she felt happiness and rediscovers the family of brothers who befriended her.
“It only hurts if I let their arrows land on me.” Her lips curved into a slow smile and she lifted her head to stare at him again, “You’ve always been my shield. When you’re around, their arrows bounce off.”
Cas is an absolutely beautiful story. A second chance love story. It has all the elements that remind me why I read this genre! -5 Stars!!-
This is part of the Heroes At Heart Series by Maryann Jordan. Cas is one of Miss Ethel's boys It's loosely based on the fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This is Cas and Bianca's story and their second chance at love. As usual Maryann Jordan does a wonderful job with her characters. She brings them to life in such a delightful way. This book is moving, emotional and heartwarming. This is the final book in this series and that makes me sad. But all good things must end sometime. A beautiful love story that you will enjoy. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review. A great finale to a wonderful series. Those boys made Miss Ethel proud.
Years ago, Cas and Bianca were best friends. He was her protector, and she was practically part of the family. Years later, she moves back to town and inadvertently ends up living at the cabin next to his and they reconnect. Her family (as the villains) are fairly one-dimensional, but that's common in romance novels, and doesn't take me out of the story too much. I like the clever take on "woodsman," since Cas is a custom furniture maker (he as the woodsman and she as Snow White). Their relationship is really great (except in the beginning when he's a jerk), but as they learn about each other as adults, they have a great bond.
Cas was a marvelous second chance love story with lots of feels. Maryann Jordan filled Cas full of wonderful story telling, and I could not put it down. The 8 brothers adopted Bianca as their honorary little sister after she charmed them with her imagination and love of life. Miss Ethel’s boys truly were heroes with big hearts! Cas and Bianca reunited after a lot of years apart, and they never forgotten about each other. They grew closer as they discovered that they were both artistic souls. Don’t miss this fabulous book!
Neither of the mc's did anything specifically wrong for me to not love this book but I didn't love this, I liked it. I needed a dictionary and personally never met someone who used some of those words in everyday conversation. The h had a tstl moment. I enjoyed the ending and reading a bit about all the brothers and their families.
This is the best Heroes yet. You will need a whole box of Kleenex. Maryann Jordan can spin a tale like no other. I will read this one again and again. The characters are friends you care about and are more like family. I love this one !
The beginning of this book is all about the time when Bianca had been their neighbor.
Cas was thirteen when a young girl and her father moved in across the street from Miss Ethel's. She was a pretty little girl with long black hair, pale skin and beautiful blue eyes. He was a little annoyed when she first introduced herself but found himself tolerating her.
Bianca was intrigued by Cas and the fact he has 7 brothers, referring to them as dwarfs like in Sleeping Beauty and Cas wasn't going to contradict her, he got a kick out of it.
Once she met the others she said they were much more like giants and instead of comparing Cas to the prince she informs them he's more like the hunter. She spent many days at Miss Ethel's while her father worked, even after he remarried.
They lost touch when she moved away, her father had given in to his new wife and found a position in California. Cas graduated high school and following his brother's footsteps enlisted in the Army. Bianca always managed to sneak into his thoughts and he hoped all was well with her.
Years have passed and Bianca's father died, she has her mother's inheritance and actually had to go to court because her stepmother contested the will. Having won that battle she travels back to Virginia to where she was once truly happy.
Their reunion was epic! I loved it so much, Cas' cat Princess was very smart to find their new neighbor.
Of course nothing is going to be completely smooth, even though they click on every level imaginable, Cas does something really dumb.
Cas comes up with some very unique ways to ask her forgiveness.
Bianca also has some things to figure out and deal with.
I love all the quotes in this book and Miss Ethel is the anchor of this wonderful group of men and their families.
Some suspense, laughter, and tears, with the friends that are more like family.
I hate to see this series come to an end, but I am sure Maryann Jordan has many new and wonderful things in the works.
I started this book knowing my time spent within these pages would be tearful since it is the last story in the wonderful Heroes at Heart Series. As each of Miss Ethel's boy's stories were told in books 1-7 I marveled at how despite her age, Miss Ethel still found time to be involved in and be an instrumental pivot point in their lives. With each story and journey towards the end of this series, I worried about whether Miss Ethel's life might also end with the series and how I would feel about losing such a wonderful character. My review does not discuss that fear nor whether it comes to fruition but centers on how Cas was able to find Bianca, the love he found at such a young age of 13 only to lose her when she is forced to move across the country just as their lives should have been starting together. Many years later fate plays an unusual part in bringing them back together when Bianca finds herself diverted from her travels back to her "home" in Virginia onto a back road due to a mysterious accident on the main highway. While taking this detour, she is drawn to a quaint cottage in the woods that is being offered to rent only to find out that her childhood sweetheart lives in an adjacent property. There are so many found memories brought to mind of the stories of all of Miss Ethel's "boys" and how because of her love and support they came to be the happy family they all deserved after coming to live with her. This is a series full of wonderful characters that taught you valuable life lessons through the beauty of their stories without realizing this is what was happening. Well Done, Maryann Jordan, Well Done! Thank you for providing some of the most wonderful and memorable stories in such a beautiful way.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary tear-filled review.
What a charming story and a great end to a wonderful series! I have loved this series and Cas was no exception. He is the last of Ms. Ethel’s boys to find his soulmate (even if he truly was the first!). Cas and Bianca met when they were children and lived across the street from each other. Bianca was younger than the boys and had an amazing imagination even for someone so young. She and Cas bonded and became closer as they got older. They are both creative, imaginative artist types, even at a young age. This story is based loosely on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as Bianca dubs Ms. Ethel’s house the house of seven giants and the huntsman. They are separated as Cas graduates HS and is heading into the military and she moves across the country with her father and evil stepmother. By chance, she makes her way back across the country 12 years later and miraculously runs into Cas again. When they reconnect as adults, they pick up where they left off, only the relationship is grown up now and there are real adult feelings. It is a charming love story that touches the soul with the way that they are connected. The snippets of all the boys’ lives and how they’ve grown into wonderful family men is especially heartwarming. And Ms. Ethel? Ah.... truly touching scenes with her and her boys! What an inspiration and a very special woman! Thank you Ms. Jordan - well done! I received an ARC for this story and this review is my unbiased review.
This is the end of a wonderfully written series whose stories are sometimes loosely based on fairy tales. Cas' story was one such as this. I have loved this series and Ms. Jordan saved the best story for last and that is saying something!
Cas' story starts when he first meets Bianca when she was 11 and he was 13. Ms. Jordan gives us their history as it begins and takes us through key moments in their friendship until they part for 12 years. It’s as if I was transported there watching from the sidelines as their story unfolded.
I have always enjoyed how Ms. Jordan finds the perfect quotes to enhance these stories. I have no idea how she does that. I was in tears as this book ended and honestly thought it would end one way and I was happily surprised that it ended a different way. I want to end this review with a quote that that was in the book. The quote is from Raymond Chandler and it sums up the way I feel about the end of the series. Miss Ethel is thinking of her husband George when this quote pops into her mind: "To say goodbye is to die a little".
Thank you, Ms. Jordan, for bringing to life such wonderful characters and stories to go with them. But most of all, thank you for bringing Ms. Ethel to life. What a wonderful ride it's been.
I received this ARC from BookFunnel and this is my honest opinion.
This is the last book in the Heroes at Heart series and while each one can be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading them all!! In this one, we get Cas's story. Cas ends up with Miss Ethel after something horrific happens. But while it did, he ended up in the best place he could have given the circumstances. And in doing so, he meet's Bianca. The girl who moves in across the street from them and becomes his best friend. They thought they had time in order to figure out how much they meant to each other. But circumstances changed the course of their lives. Bianca has come "home" in order to find the last place she was truly happy. Never realizing that her life will be put back to rights. Or that she will find the one thing she has always been searching for.
I absolutely loved this story!! Right from the start I was drawn in and I didn't want to put it down for anything! Cas is this beyond sweet man who is finally following his own dreams. Dreams that he never truly thought he could make a living doing. Bianca is a woman who has been through so many things that a person shouldn't have to go through. But she is also strong and has a beautiful heart. And reading about how their story starts and about how they get their second chance is beyond what I had hoped for. While I am most definitely sad that this series is ending, it couldn't have ended in a better way!!
A truly heartwarming story for the last of the Heroes at Heart series from Maryann Jordan and perhaps reaffirmation that fairy tales do come true? Loosely based on Snowwhite & the Seven Dwarfs, Cas is a tale of young first love, heartbreak, wicked stepmothers, second chances, misunderstandings, evil deeds, romance and happy ever afters. Quirky, thoughtful & imaginative Bianca lives next door to Miss Ethel & her wonderful boys & very quickly becomes part of the family but is especially close to creative dreamer Cas. Bianca & Cas always had a special bond but before they get a chance to explore their young feelings fate intervenes to separate them. Reunited years later by a twist of fate or maybe a little fairytale magic, can Cas & Bianca find the happy ever after they so deserve this time? But then the path to true love in fairy tales is never perfectly smooth is it! I love all the subtle fairy tale references, wonderful literacy quotes & the chance to catch up with all the other Heroes at Heart & of course the magical Miss Ethel. Definitely a feel good read that I would recommend, if you weren't a lover & believer of fairytales before you will be afterwards! Plus perfect last line to finish the series! I received this as an ARC, all opinions expressed are my own.
CAS by Maryann Jordan. Being a big fan of this series, I admit I was sad this was the end. However, Ms. Jordan certainly took us out with a tale that warms the heart and soul. Our lovely couple, Cas and Bianca, have been a long time coming. Having met when they were young, their connection was undeniable. But, time and life often detours those that are meant to be. Cas and Bianca's reunion was such a heartwarming moment, I found myself giddy yet tearing up at the same time. Both have lived through some hard and difficult things in their lives that certainly made my heart hurt for them. I enjoyed as these two reconnected and rediscovered each other. The story is filled with, not only the love of our amazing couple, but the love of family. Miss Ethel and her gang of boys are the epitome of what family means. It was wonderful to see Cas' brothers and women throughout the tale too. In CAS, Ms. Jordan takes on a journey filled with some danger, sadness, joy and everlasting love. OH, and the wrap up at the end had me grabbing the tissues! My heart was stuttering throughout those last moments. This was an incredible end to this storyline and Ms. Jordan certainly held my heart hostage throughout. (received ARC for honest review)
This is a beautiful ending to a beautiful series! Every word, every quote will touch you. Cas and Bianca’s story a rendition of Snow White starts as children, Cas one of Miss Ethel’s boys, Bianca the girl who lost her mother who moves a cross the street, she becomes a little sister to the boys but is always closer to Cas. Bianca life changes when her father remarries and they move to California and Cas joins the army but their story doesn’t end there in some ways it’s just the beginning. Miss Ethel has been the anchor in every book, the heart. The woman who brought 8 boys into her home, gave them the love of classic literature and the love some had never had and replaced the love some had lost. She’s the mother, grandmother, aunt or friend we all wish we had. I had so many favorite quotes from this book, here are a couple:
“Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven, Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels.”
“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
Maryann Jordan has written a series that has touched my heart, the ending was beautifully done, though this is a series I never wanted to end!
Another emotional story that tugged at my heart, even had it almost stop a couple of times not quite sure where it was heading All the books in this series are very realistic, each with their own very real circumstances, every single character is a bit different but in many ways can be compared in some way to their favourite fairy story, the good and the bad. For all the boys grown into men and the women they each fall in love with one Lady stands out from all and that's Miss Ethel. I was scared I must admit that the series would possibly end with everyone having to say goodbye. This is family, they may not have started as blood brothers apart from the twins but the bond between all and the obstacles all have past and survived have made them far stronger, I love this family. I'm sure their are many readers who like myself can identify with various events in this series, I know for me several have brought memories up, the stepmother, the loss of one or both parents. Bullying, being the odd person out and a bit different and of course the love of books to name just a few. Each of these has touched my heart and since I actually started with the last book in the series first I can say WOW! Thank you to Maryann Jordan for such an emotional journey.
“There is only one happiness in this life: to loved and be loved.”
I didn’t want this beautiful series to end. But so happy how it ended. This series of Maryann Jordan is so beautifully written and my new favorite of this series. All stories in this series are based on fairytales and this one is Snow White and her seven “Giants” Cas and Bianca knew each other since they were in their early teens. They were neighbors and became friends. Since her father works a lot and her mother is dead, she spends a lot of time with Miss Ethel and her boys. Until her father marries again and she has to move away. Poor Bianca didn’t have a easy life with her evil stepmother. Love it when they met again. They were perfect for each other. They were both artistic and both loved to read. Thank you, Maryann Jordan, for creating such beautiful characters and stories. Thank you for creating Miss Ethel and her beautiful quotes and her love for 8 boys that had nobody and taking them in and raising such fine boys into good men. I’m going to miss this series but know that Maryann has lots of good books coming.
Cas: Heroes at Heart is the final book in this wonderfully written series by the talented Maryann Jordan. This is a story about family, loss and love, it will definitely pull at your heartstrings make you smile or giggle at times and bring a tear or two other times. I was unable to put this book down it was such a wonderful story. Cas is a dreamer and an artist who has been loved and raised along side his seven brothers by the loving Miss Ethel. One day Cas is looking for some alone time but his time is interrupted by the adorable and energetic new neighbor Bianca. This is just the start to a very enjoyable read, I want to say so much more but I don't want to give any of this great story away. All I want to say is this was a sweet end to one of my favorite series. I hope you will enjoy this story as much as I did. If this is your first Heroes at Heart book I recommend you read the others in this series to get to know all the great characters. This is a mush read and a book you won't want to miss.
A gentle ending to this nice series, based on contemporary readings of classic fairy tales. Jordan has a light hand with the parallels, never letting them get in the way of the story. Cas is the last of the foster boys raised by Miss Ethel. We meet him in this book as a young man who has lost his parents. He remembers his father's love for woodworking and he spends his time whittling even though he is still young. When a little whirlwind names Bianca moves in across the street, she is taken by all the big men who are his brothers. They become her protectors, and it turns out she needs protection from her stepmother and the stepmother's brother. When Bianca and Cas meet again so many years later, many things have happened to both of them. Their childhood affection becomes a grown-up love and meets the challenge of her family. The last part of the book looks in on all the "boys", now grown with families of their own. It also takes a bittersweet look at Miss Ethel, still teaching her children. I'll miss this series but I have faith in Ms. Jordan's creativity
Fairy tales can come true in Maryann Jordan's Heroes at Heart Series! Cas is the last book in the series of eight foster brothers raised under the loving guidance of Miss Ethel. Each one has followed their dreams and found their forever love except for Cas, the dreamer and artist. When his passion for woodworking turning into a business, his only regret is that he has no one to share his life with.
Bianca, his childhood friend and teenage love who moved away with her family, is never far from his mind. Little does he know that Bianca feels the same and when they meet again it's like they've never been apart! Now they have what was missing in their lives. Bianca is finally home with her seven giant dwarfs and her huntsman and shield Cas!
The last chapters had me praying for a happy ending and, as usual, Maryann Jordan delivered.
I received an ARC of this book but my review is my own,
This is a great book. It is very rare that I write a review, but in this case, I must. My husband makes fun of me because I have so many “favorite authors”. I have to admit that is somewhat true. However, MaryAnn Jordan is without a doubt, one of my three most favorite authors!!! Her writing style brings you into the story so that you feel like you are there, watching the scene play out. The thing I love most is that she is very pro military and country and isn’t ashamed to say it.
I love how in this the last book in the series, is based on Snow White and the seven dwarfs. Even the heroine’s name is Bianca...white. Loved the similarities, seven brothers....; the evil queen (stepmother); etc. Loved, loved, loved how the story ended, but you will need to read the book first. Do yourself a favor and read the series in order. Again, this is not only a great book , but great series!!!!
This is book 8 in the series and it features Cas and Bianca. This story is a heartwarming tale of a modern day version of Snow White. Cas is the last brother to find his HEA. Even though Bianca lived with her own father, she spent four years hanging out with Miss Ethel, Cas and what she named the seven giants. Sadly, Bianca moved away and did not see Cas for 12 years. Though their reunion is quick, it is not without its issues. I laughed and I cried. This story REALLY brought out the emotions in its readers. Get your tissue box ready!
This is such a perfect way to end the series. I’m sad to see it end and I’m so glad I got to read it. I wish all the lost kids out there could have their very own Miss Ethel. I adored her from the moment I met her. This is some of the most amazing writing from such a talented author. BRILLIANT and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED series that is so emotional and truly describes, over and over and in many different ways, what family really is.
Cas and Bianca became fast friends when she moved in next door at age eleven and he was thirteen. She became part of the family because she spent a lot of time there while her dad worked and then when he remarried, to avoid step mom. When Cas graduated and was getting ready to join the service, her dad shocks her by moving them to California. She survived a lot including heart surgery and losing her dad to cancer and fighting her step mom and uncle in court because they didn't get much in her dad's will. Now she is back in Virginia and reconnects with Cas. Mistakes are made and assuming things he shouldn't, Cas screws up bad and has to figure out how to fix it. Can she forgive him and work on a future together? What happens when her uncle convinced her to meet for coffee and that he has walked away from his sister and is trying to change his ways?
There is something magical about Maryann Jordan's Heroes at Heart series. I am always charmed and feel uplifted after reading one of the books. I freely admit to getting teary eyed at times while reading. A few of them are sad but mostly they are happy ones. Since Cas is the series finale I was overjoyed that Maryann devoted a few paragraphs to updating us on each one of Miss Ethel's boys and their families. It was an amazing way for it all to end.
When they first met 11 year old Bianca declared that 13 year old Cas was her shield, her protector. Now 12 years later those words seem quite prophetic. Theirs is a love story that begins as children when they become friends and find their way back to each other after years of separation. There's a lot that happens in between and it's not all sunshine and rainbows. But as with all fairytales they live happily ever after.
I came late to this series, starting with Zeke, but then working my way back to Zander because Miss Ethel’s boys get into your heart and you can’t get enough. And sadly, Cas is the last of her boys, and thus the last of the series. There are wonderful cameos from the others and their wives, and of course a starring role for Miss Ethel herself, both from Cas’s youth and now. And, as a loose retelling of Snow White and the seven dwarfs, there must, of course, be a Snow White, and that is Bianca, whose initial meeting with Cas speaks so much of his character and her spirit. The serendipitous nature of their reconnection is vintage Maryann Jordan too, and she’s woven the fairy-tale in so smoothly, with that truly evil Wicked Stepmother and, of course, the Woodsman himself. I shall miss Miss Ethel and these boys.
This final story in the author’s wonderful series, Heroes at Heart , is bittersweet. While the story is about the second chance romance of Cas and Bianca is one that is touching with some suspense and action thrown in, it’s the message spread throughout the entire series that remains in my mind and in my heart. Miss Ethel was the foster mother that gave love, values , and taught morals to eight boys that for one reason or another had no family. She created a family with a bond no one could ever break. Her “boys” became men of honor who found women that complimented them. Each story was thought provoking and heartfelt , and this last one, beautifully wrapped up the series. Kudos to the author for another wonderful story and a memorable finale. Be sure to have your hankies ready. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was an absolutely fitting end to this series. I am usually a little sad when a series I love ends, and I am but I think MaryAnn saved the best for last!! Cas was such a great character I really loved everything about this story. Lots of trust issues and the norm but they were a great couple for sure. Bianca was a fun character and I enjoyed her very much. Of course just like any relationship there are a few roadblocks. you definitely find yourself rooting for them to find each other! I love how this series highlighted the cost of system, the bonds of families that aren't blood, and regular every day blue color people. it is fun to see other books and quotes and the focus on fairy tales. I really enjoyed this book and series a lot. I think it was a perfect ending for Miss Ethel and her boys!
Cas was the perfect way to end the Heroes at Heart series! Maryann Jordan found the perfect way to end the story without leaving any unanswered questions. Cas and Bianca were childhood friends, but when Cas was set to leave for the army, Bianca moved across the country. They lost touch, due to some interference. Eventually, Bianca makes her way back and is able to reunite with Cas, Ms. Ethel, and her “giants”. I absolutely love how Cas and Bianca are reintroduced and the romance between them. Their story has romance, misunderstandings, and some interference in thief happily ever after. The ending of the story was beautiful and was the perfect way to wrap up this series. I received an authors copy and I have left and honest review.
An Absolutely Beautiful Romance . I absolutely loved reading CAS .This is the final story in The Heroes at Heart series . Hats off to Mrs Jordan this story is wonderful as is the entire series . I was overcome with emotions happy and sad . Just a fantastic take . Cas is the last of Mrs Ethel's boys (men) to get his happily ever after . Bianca moved across the street as they were growing up the boys became her protectors just like Snow white and the seven dwarfs except they were her giants and Cas was her shield . Till there lives are torn apart when Cas is preparing for the military and Bianca is forced to move away . Years later Bianca returns to the place she has the happiest memories . Will they get a second chance . This story is amazing . You should have tissues and maybe a soothing drink close at hand . This story is the perfect finish to a fabulous series . I'll be sad to see it finished but look forward to reading the next wonderful story that I'm sure she will create . I highly recommend taking the time to read and enjoy
Cas is the 8th and final book in the Heroes at Heart series and it has all the feels. Raised by Miss Ethel along with 7 other foster brothers, we meet Cas as a young teen with a precocious little girl for a neighbor. Bianca is an only child and she is looking for someone to play with. As we see this childhood friendship evolve we get to know two children dealing with the loss of parents and finding a family with the people in their lives. Ms. Jordan ends this series with a sweet love story and closure for the remaining seven brothers who we met in her previous books. It is standalone, however, this series is worth the read. You will fall in love with Miss Ethel and her boys. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily give my review.
One if the best book series I gave ever read. MS Ethel was the best part of this series. Her love and devotion saved 8 young boys to be wonderful men. Hopefully there are many MS Ethel’s in the foster system. She also influenced all the women in these wonderful men’s lives.
Cas and Bianca’s story was one of the deepest love stories. I limed how each Man was summarized and brought together at thee d of the series, i was so relieved at the ending. Maryann writes with such passion. Being a junior high counselor and educator for 35 years, I can see her counseling skills in her writing. “The true measure of a man is not in the mistakes he makes...but in how he handles those mistakes.
