Malik Demonbreun was about to become the one thing he hated the most on this earth... a vampire.
Malik grew up in the privileged home of his father Timothy Demonbreun, the Lord of the Southern Realm of Vampires. Malik hated everything about his father's way of life. He flees his father's home with his girlfriend, Lydia.
Malik and Lydia soon find out that his father's reach goes beyond the borders of his realm. Malik is betrayed, and he cannot accept the consequences of his choices. Malik is forced into becoming his father's heir, but it only starts his journey as the vampire reject.
Hard Knock Vamp is a short story prequel to Kimbra Swain's new Legend of the Vampire Reject series. It's dark and grittier than her Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen series, but there are plenty of laughs. Check out the prequel today!
From early in life Kimbra Swain was indoctrinated in the ways of geekdom. Raised on Star Wars, Tolkien, Superheroes and Voltron, she found herself immersed in a world of imagination. She started writing in high school, and completed her English degree from the University of Alabama in 2003. Her writing is influenced by a gamut of authors including Jane Austen, J.R.R. Tolkien, L.M. Montgomery, Timothy Zahn, Kathy Reichs, Kevin Hearne and Jim Butcher. Born and raised in Alabama, Kimbra still lives there with her husband and 5 year old daughter. When she isn't reading or writing, she plays PC games, makes jewelry and builds cars.

Well, that’s if you don’t mind a little blood and existential crisis with your lunch. I read Kimbra Swain’s “Vampin isn’t easy” before this, and it takes this story to the next phase of Malik, the main character’s life. This story is a good pre-quel either way, and gives me a better sense of Malik’s incredible kindness and compassion in a very violent world of vampires.
This was a really fast prequel read . It tells the story of of the hero became a vampire and lost all trust for his ‘friends ‘ and lover who betrayed him . I was kind of surprised that he was given the choice to leave after he was turned given he’s labeled the ‘reject ‘ in book 1 .. I’m 50/50 on whether I’ll go on to read this series . I’ve added to my tbr though for now .
This was a great prequel to Vampin' Ain't Easy. The back story is helpful to understand why Malik feels the way he does about some things. A quick read that enhances the storyline.
This is a very different take on vampirism. In this world, the children of a vampire are human and have to be converted. Who would have thought that a rebellious son of a vampire leader would prove his strength after his reluctant conversion by being merciful? Okay, what's next?
Great start. As soon as I finish this review I’m reading the next book in the series. Btw Lydia is a twit. I am trying to improve my language skills so I didn’t utilize my first word choice
Malik Demonbreun is forced by his father to become a vampire. He doesn't want to be one. I read the series, "Legend of the Vampire Reject" such as it is (only 2 books) and it is fun.
