Sebastian Frost’s territory had grown massively as did his reputation. He was the Herald of Shalia that married a demoness, invited hundreds of Arachne to live in his territory, and married a princess of Zira all in the same week. All while securing peace and trade agreements with the two largest countries on the continent. Herald Frost wasn’t merely a deviant herald that laid with demihumans. He was a highly capable deviant herald that laid with demihumans. Which was one of the reasons why demihumans were coming from all over to join his territory. His reputation even crossed the ocean and when Cassia, the Prophet of Shalia, heard about Frost, she hopped on the first ship back home to meet the herald. Herald of Shalia is a fun fantasy Light LitRPG/Gamelit by Tamryn Tamer and contains attention starved elves, Arachne Queens, demonic princesses, foxy madams, foul language, and completely over the top love making. You've been warned.
Tamryn Tamer is known for tawdry fantasy stories focused around filthy elves, fairies, demons, and really any other mythical creature.
She's a discovery writer whose work focuses on following a character as they explore a new and interesting world and meet new and interesting people...and most likely have sex with them.
Currently focused on Forbidden Arcana. The series follows the mage Jericho as he gathers familiars and unlocks new magic to become the most powerful spellcaster in the VRMMO Forbidden Arcana.
"First, let’s state the obvious. Tamryn Tamer is a pen name. We actually had a few pen names thought up that we still may use in the future. But for now, it’s all about Tamryn. We’re a two person team who does all of their own writing, editing, marketing, cover design, research, formatting, etc. All while working full time and raising kids.
So, what do we write? We write playful over the top GameLIt/LitRPG stories full of memorable characters and graphic sex.
Why graphic sex? We could write some artistic tripe about how it’s necessary but in reality we just like it. It’s fun. It makes us laugh and smile. It makes us fall in love with the characters a bit more and makes them feel more alive. And sometimes you just want to see characters fuck.
But the fisting! The double fisting! The ungodly amounts of bodily fluid! The sheer impossibility of it all! Why that? For the same reason we have magic, dragons, and monsters! It’s fantasy!
Just read our work and decide. We like to chase smiles. That means we like our work to be funny, cool, happy, and memorable. And we just hope you enjoy it .
Thank you so much for reading and let’s have some fun!"
Tamryn Tamer is the first female author of a harem series I have ever read.
Going into this I was hoping that she would have handle the relationships of the MC with a lot more care, as most of my favorite OTPs came from female writers. I know that might mean I am a little sexist, but I think most women authors write relationships in stories a lot better than men. BUT gosh darn it, I was so fucking wrong. I hate her characters and relationships. The way she wrote Frost is making me contemplate if I should just stop reading harem stories. SIGH!! The way each girl is treated in this story disgust me. Yea I enjoy harem stories, but that doesn't mean I like to read stories where the main character is just fucking every single girl he comes upon and disregards the relationships that he had built. This is just.......sad.
The story of Herald of Shalia is actually intriguing, and the initial setup of the world is so interesting to read. It has a fascinating premise and the world that we are in is so alluring. The lore and history of the world is so intriguing and mysterious that I just want to learn more. The actual plot of the story is good but almost everything else is ruined by the way the author handles Frost. I want to learn more about the world, I want to be invested in this world but Frost actions in the story confuses and disgust me at times. Yea, I get that he is not a good person, but the way that she setup the character in book one, led me to believe that he wasn't the character that he said he was. That is why I kept reading.
Minor spoilers
Lysandra is underwhelming. I think she is the only character that is given any sort of meaningful bond with Frost but the way her character has progressed is shockingly bad. She is a character that can be great if she is given anytime to develop, but instead the only time we the readers ever spend with her is when Frost is having an orgy. Yup, a character who has a mysterious past, growing up with the reputation of her mother and is still somehow one of the most caring person in this world as well as the first person the MC spends any meaningful time with is reduced to being just another girl in Herald Frost's orgy. Jeezus. I know they are characters that like to have sex but for fuck sake that doesn't mean that is all to their character. Jeez but Tessa from the American Dragon series loves sex and is Allosexual (which somewhat describes most elves in this story) but Tessa has some depth. She isn't just reduced to being the MC's first love and a sexual person. She has a personality and layers to her character. She has her own story and isn't solely dependent on the MC. Jeezus Cheese man but Lysandra is the reason why people think that anyone who read harem is a perverted fuck.
If you thought Lysandra was bad, Renna is worse, scratch that way worse. Her character is, "I want Herald Frost cock all the time". Jeezus but the way Renna and Frost had sex for the first time (ps it was her first time with a man as well) raises so many red flags. This is just bad. The author has done nothing to develop this character, she was just introduced to be that girl who only makes lewd comments and be the over the top sexual character and that is how she remains. Fuck man but most elves are like Renna. Their characterization is solely based on them wanting sex and nothing else. Wasted pages.
Next is Desdemona. Barely anything to say here other than she was another sex conquest for Frost. No story is given to her after her introduction, no anything given to her since the kidnapping, nope, she is just relegated to being one of Frost wives which he doesn't give a fuck about until he wants sex with her or passing on responsibilities onto her. Yup that is it. Are we supposed to be rooting for the MC?
The Arachne Queen is next. Moving On! Why? Because there is nothing to say here other than she is shy and likes Frost. So I am going to treat her the same way in this review as the book did in the story. (I know she has some scenes in the book but none of it really mattered, they were all about sex anyways or her wanting sex from Frost.)
Brynn had so much promise, but as the story progressed I felt more and more sorry for her. I know this is a fictional story but I can't help feeling pity, sorrow and anger for her. She hitched her wagon to the wrong horse. Brynn is one of the few prominent characters that we spend a good chunk of time with. She has layers to her character and is very interesting, but the author doesn't seem to care about her or progressing her character. Instead it feels like every time Brynn is on screen, she is complaining that Frost is a bastard and moves on. Yea he is supposed to be a bastard but if we are following an anti hero, give us something to his personality that would actually make us root for him. I think that Brynn should have been used to make Frost likeable. She should have been the one to anchor Frost but instead, as all female characters are in this book, they are nothing more than play things for Frost to fuck. Jeezus but she is being squandered in this book.
Frost is such an unlikeable anti hero. The fact that we spend so much time with him being a fucking bastard is amazing. This might be my foolishness but I thought the way the author had originally set up Frost was to be a kind person with some major flaws but that is totally different from the Frost that I read. I thought that the reason why he thought himself as a bastard is because he doesn't want to make promises he can't keep, and let down anyone/be responsible. Also I thought he was comparing himself to probably the superheroes of his world and he knew he is not like them. The fact that he was shown to have a moral compass and also that he can show remorse, as well as apologizes for the shit that happens, also warning people about him so that they would not get hurt, led me to believe that he was actually a kind person but just had some flaws. Nope, that was just me being foolish. As the story progressed, his actions went from weird but ok to this is fucked up. The way book 3 starts is all kinds of fucked up. How is it fucked up, well firstly he actually complains about the women in his life, second, running away so that he can avoid the women and third that whole scene in the brothel. I am not sure how much time has passed between book 2 and 3 but the amount of shit that we are told about from his escapades in the brothel is ridiculous. We spend so much time with him with other women and his actual wives and lovers are nothing more than background characters. Yup. Cuz that is why I read harem stories. The dude cant even focus on his wife on his wedding day. SIGH
(Plus are you really trying to tell me that I must root for Frost when he says he "LOVES" Lysandra and his wives, but shows little attention to them. Even when called on it by Cassia he replies with, "its one of my flaws". Am I in the wrong here but is it not weird to have the MC trying to sleep with the Mother of one of his lovers, but only being stopped so he can have more sex with other elves? Really I am asking because based on the reviews and rating, a lot of people enjoy this series and I can't understand why. Are we suppose to root for the sleazebag whose only redeeming quality is that, he doesn't like the way demi-humans/monsters are treated.)
Maybe its me and I have the problem here, but the way that Frost is presented makes me uncomfortable. Yea I like harem stories but that doesn't mean I like the protagonist sleeping with everyone without care for others i.e having sex with random strangers when he is out on missions, when he already has three wives and multiple lovers. Yea I like sex scenes, but I don't like the fact that we spend more time with people we barely know rather than people we already know and appreciate i.e. all that time spent with the Madame and their date. (When did Lysandra, Brynn, Desdemona hell even Renna get a date scene.) Yes I love romance and building something with someone new but l don't like the fact that romance seems to be focused on random individuals rather than the people we know i.e. the Madame of the brothel, we spend so much time with them flirting and playing but then she disappears because she was a one time thing. Even in erotica's (the ones that have a story) they actually develop and MAINTAIN the relationships of the people involved. This is just a disgrace.
I just don't like this series. I don't like a lot of things in this book and the things I do like i.e. the lore and the world are barely present in the story. This story is about how much things Frost can stick his dick in. If you like that kind of story then go right ahead but I prefer actually having some sort of meaningful personalities to the characters rather than the characters' entire personality being reduced to them wanting to have sex and them being horny. I am looking at you Renna, Ena, Fayeth and the rest of the elves as well as Frost's wives. Instead I am reading a story about a play boy anti hero that doesn't give a fuck about the people he has relationships with and horny ass women whose major/prominent trait is that they want cock. Plus the author showed that she was willing to write different POV's for characters. Why not write POVs of the girls so that they actually have their own story/journey instead of filling the pages with them either talking about sex or having sex? It just wasted pages.
Just because he says he is a bad person and openly admits to being a floozy doesn't make it ok or enjoyable to read.
Harem has a notorious reputation for reasons like this book. People would just say that harem stories has the MC fucking every women he comes across and has no real story other than him fucking bitches and with stories like this, only solidifies the point.
P.S I know that the author(s) are a husband and wife duo so I should not be harsh with only the wife author so I am sorry.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Still love this series despite it's growing flaws If you love book 1 & 2 than this will very likely leave you satisfied. But there has been a bit of drift from one - two - and three. The most glaring and distracting difference is the sloppiness of the writing here in book 3. Come on Tamryn, this is kind of insulting. Did you even proof read your own book? The occasional spelling mistake is an understandable embarrassment, but these are mangled sentences that can barely be deciphered. Write drunk, edit sober. I think you forgot step two. The second drift is that the MC frost is becoming a bit more of a jerk. In book one he was gruff but clearly cared and didn't want to cause any hurt feeling. Now in book three he's gone from smirking scamp, to a mischievous asshole who enjoys stirring up grief between the ladies. I called book one "Hot with heart", well the heart is shrinking and I hope it stops. I've had enough callous anti-heroes, I miss the Frost from book 1. Other than that, I love it. I've only paused starting book four long enough to write this review and I'm not waiting any longer.
Too much pure lesbian action. It's fine when it's happening for the protagonist's enjoyment, but there's an entire lengthy chapter dedicated to a 5-way lesbian scene that actually results in one of the protagonist's main girls forming an official relationship with a girl who isn't his.
Also, the protagonist got his butt fingered. I usually drop a book when something like that happens, but it happened quickly, the story moved on without dwelling on it , and he seemed to only go through with it because his lover wanted to try it.
This scene reminded me that in another of this author's series, which I thoroughly enjoyed until the very end, because in ther very last book a shapeshifting girl grew a penis and used it on the male protagonist, who enjoyed it. This is a warning for others who may be as turned-off by this type of stuff as much as me. I'll be wary id the following books in this series. I would love to see this author write a harem story, as opposed to these polyamorous stories.
You can tell by the fact that I'm reviewing this pretty much the day it came out that I was looking forward to it. Another fun book, but didn't quite clear the 5-star hurdle for me.
There were some editing issues which can be cleared up for a later edition I'm sure, but my main complaints were when the story bogged down in (very) extended sex scenes. I do know what kind of book this is, but I found that some of the romps disrupted the flow of the story to the extent that I started skipping ahead.
Also the generally clever bickering and character assassination was fun but sometimes ran a bit long, something I'm sure I've noted about some of the author's other books. YMMV about all of the above, but bottom line: I'll certainly recommend this if you like the author's previous works.
Good story, but it could use a final run-through by a proofreader. Occasionally incorrect words/typos/words missing.
Plot was engaging, and at times, I was ready for the sex scenes to end to get back to it. It seems this series can't decide whether it wants to focus on Frost's sexcapades or the story. There is a good story here. I just wish it would take the front seat, and use the sex to add to it.
Pretty much the same as the previous books. The number of women that Frost is in love with or has to please is getting ridiculous. I feel a little sorry for his first wife since she doesn't seem to be getting the attention that the others get. Overall, it is what it is and I enjoyed the story.
Minor Spoilers. . . . Good addition to the series. Fun book. Really loved the trial. Looking forward to book 4. About the only downside was the complete lack of editing, it was quite distracting to have typos on almost every page from the mid point on.
I'm actually sad to finish this one because there isn't a 4th audiobook yet to start listening to! I've enjoyed the growth of the world. That the MC is being overwhelmed but learning (I think) to trust relationships.
While the first 2 books had the creation, strengthening of the village, forging alliances and defending the Beast-Spirit-etc.-folks in this other World, this Book 3 has sex, more sex, with a side dish of sex and sex for dessert. The Herald of Shalia was not selected because of his "martial arts prowess", because of his unlimited intellectual abilities or because of his ample experience in Diplomacy, Governance, Commerce, fairness, etc. but because he was just a "regular guy" from another world, that is constantly "turned on". Frost, main character and the Herald of Shalia finds every woman "sexy", which is impossible to believe. A person can't be attracted to "everybody". The less criteria a person has, the less "value" he or she has for each "sex partner" that they have/had/potentially will have... The author takes for granted that the reason why people have physiological needs to have sex, they are mostly instinctual requirements to "reproduce and breed young". Using magic, only as birth control, not for "real adventures" or "actual fantasy-adventure" makes this Book 3 and the entire fantasy series, an un-entertaining, unappealing, extremely long wet-dream (probably imagined by a sexually frustrated fantasy-geek aficionado). It would have been more interesting to have magic to create a "magical viagra", because 24/7/365 constant arousal is impossible, unless Frost, main character is autistic/mentally challenged or has some kind of sex addiction/chemical addiction, etc... This story series lacks action and adventure. It has no balance. It's all sex. Like I have said before in my reviews of this series, it is totally more interesting and entertaining for one to have sex, than to read a fictional wet-dream about sex from an author that has no idea of seduction, has not a grain of charm, makes a main character, Frost, neither strong, nor powerful, nor rich, nor handsome, nor smart, nor popular, etc. or the other reasons why a woman would accept to be "subjugated/forced" into a polyamorous-harem-like sexual relationship... The other thing that this author especially "takes for granted" and is "not necessarily true", is that people don't regularly want to have sex with just anybody and most do not go into "same-sex" "threesomes" or "orgies", just because they want the "main character" to "have sex with them"... Sapient beings seek higher objectives than "orgasms and pleasure"... If for example the author would make a fantasy novel series about peeing and doing number two, all of the time, like this sex story series, it would be at the same level, as those series that are for foodies and gluttons... Eating, going to the bathroom and having sex are instinctual motivations and needs...and yet, I don't remember a moment in this Book 3 where any of the characters "ate" or "went to the out-house"... Guys usually like to do more than to read, like to watch more than they like to read... So, I do not consider a series like this "good or popular" (even amongst fantasy-geeks)... Now that porn is freely and constantly available on social media, stories like this one, go un-read... Close to 600 pages of sexual liaisons of a regular guy, by an author that lacks character descriptions, situational descriptions and suffers from sexual tunnel vision is just too much to endure... I think stories like this one create "anti-bodies" and "rejection" "cringe" to fantasy novel series and especially harem-like fantasy novel series...
The story continues, and for the most part, it's fine. But it's starting to get a bit ridiculous with the amount of women. There are way too many to feasibly keep track of, and it also hampers any kind of true relationship development with the already established characters. I get that it can be exciting to introduce exotic new species, but there comes a point where you've crammed in too many different characters, and this series has passed that mark. We've now gotten entire chapters in two books that are from the PoV of someone other than the main character, and said chapters have had sex scenes that do not involve the main character. That should never be a thing in these novels. I honestly just skip over those chapters now.
Them calling IOUs "Ayoyous" because they didn't understand what the term meant was adorable. The constant bickering was not. There's simply too many characters vying for Frost's attention. That on its own could be okay, but they drag it out way too many times. It's just annoying now.
This seems to be a problem with every author I've read that writes sex scenes, but they really need to come up with some more variation in descriptions. The amount of times something is described as "massive" is too damn high. "Massive breasts" and "massive cock" everywhere. Almost as bad as Logan Jacobs constantly describing vaginas as tunnels.
As with the first two entries, they desperately need an editor. On top of the myriad grammatical errors that are still present, there's multiple instances of simply using the wrong word. "Craig Boars" were being hunted, instead of crag boars. Lots of "waiving" going on instead of waving. (Both of those errors were repeated multiple times, so it was not a simple one-time typo.) And for the love of Shalia, learn to use commas.
I like this series. OP MC, thoughtful storyline, character progression, great banter. Banter is rare enough, but in this series they don't hold back. It feels real and I actually laugh out loud at several points in the story. Top notch.
The previous books in the series have a few typos. This book has several. Missing words, doubled words, an incorrect contraction. Not on the level of a webnovel, but an unusual amount for a published work.
Finally, just call the other beings 'people'. Most of them are the same species as humans, technically. The only reason we only call humans 'people' on earth is because there aren't equivalent subspecies (though I'm sure bigotry would be involved if there were). I'd be interested to see what an expert would consider arachne, taxonomically speaking.
One of the best NSFW series I've read, and I mean VERY NSFW.
The adult sections are 10/10. Plenty of fantasies which are well written, varied, and come just often enough to be fun without taking away from the story.
The characters are all interesting though at this point with so many women it gets difficult to tell them apart. The elves in the story suffer the most from this but it only happens on occasion and doesn't detract from the story.
The plot, which is normally the weakest point in these type of novels, is actually pretty decent. The world is growing and the characters are growing with it. It also manages to take it's time and not rush from waking in a field to physics breaking feats of strength like your average novel.
In the end, it's one of the best examples of the genre and I'd recommend it to anyone who's a fan.
The grammar was once again worse, enough to be irritating. Could use a little better editing. The flow was a little hindered, smut v. Plot is a sensitive balance and it was a little off, but not terrible. Someone I remember commented in a review in the first book the unbelievability that no one has ever come up with the things Frost does. I was able to suspend disbelief before, but now it's getting a little more difficult. I overall still liked it, criticism aside. Was kind of curious if they woud go as taboo as mother/ daughter, but (slight spoiler)
seemed to skirt for now.
Still recommend though I wish they would fix those editing mistakes and hope it happens.
Being one of the most powerful beings in the world who just happens to have a reputation for killing thousands of people MIGHT make you a little unpopular. But if you are also the mother of your wife, well….that might create a problem.
With this outing, the story starts to enter the “sure, why not?” portion of the series, but just put the brain on idle and enjoy the ride.
The author continues to build the world, adding new and interesting aspects to this place where gods are not only a part of reality, but send their Heralds to represent them in the world.
I absolutely love this series! And it is truly the characters and story that have captured me. The elves, as always, are hilarious but it isn't just them. The story itself is great and something that draws you in and keeps you there wanting to know what's next. The over the top sex is present and scenes are plenty enough. Even though I skip them after the initial read they are well written and enjoyable. If you want a fun series and some laughs this is the series for you.
I love this series so much, but it’s official… renna and brynn annoy me. Seriously. Slade is epic, I swear slade and hestia drive me to tears every single time. Adamus and Isaac are a riot as well as the Grey family. Tamer has the perfect humor for me. I’ve finally found an author that can write seriously and make me laugh at loud at the same time while providing me with endless entertainment. The Arachne are hilarious as well. Poor Lishri and her competition lol. Definitely read this series! It’s time for the next book! Onward lads!
A possible mother-in-law appears. That's pretty much it for big developments this volume. Frost continues to develop his territory. I have mixed feelings about this series. I like it as the premise and world have a lot of potential and the characters are very entertaining. That being said I feel like that potential is being squandered. I hate to say it but I feel like there may be too much sex. I enjoy explicit scenes as much as the next person but I want them to support the story and not be the story. We'll see what the next volume shows us, I guess.
A great read full of fun and frolics. Admittedly it’s more sex than story with the adult scenes (great and extremely over the top though they are) detracting from is actually a pretty cool world and decent story.
The MC is pretty much a loveable thug who happens to be a bit of a gamer and uses that knowledge well. In fact he’s a very reluctant hero but does enjoy the benefits of that.
I am really sad that I have to rate this book so low. The series was going so well
There is just nothing new in terms of plot.
As for the 'physical interaction side'; I dropped the book the second one of the main girls started a relationship outside of Frosts Harem (For pity sake there was an abundance of choice partners, mentally and physically, without needing to go the cuck route)
Refunding books 4 & 5, will keep #3 out of respect/love of the previous two books.
The wackiness continues. I hope our protagonist actually builds something.
I think the Baron is my favourite character. Sadly it looks like our protagonist will not be experimenting with anything from now on (he got spiders for that).
I wonder how many women read this series. It's written by a women but...
I don't know if I'm remembering wrong, but there seems to be more smut than story when compared to book one,
I love the species interactions and developing relationships to each other and the community at large. I wish there might be a depiction of the different species as some are difficult for me to have a mental image. But that is NOT a complaint! My single regret is that I began this series when there was only the first novel, waiting for each sequel is not easy.
That sounds dirtier than it was supposed to. Who am I kidding? It is dirty but that's half the fun. There's plenty of sex and romance and lots of laughs and that's what I like best about this series, almost nothing is too serious to joke about.
You found it here! This book and the previous two are hilarious! And what a ride! Frost is back and helps decide the fate of the Prophet who is basically a level 100 or more character. Between the “monsters”, elves and other assorted beings, Frost is busy saving them all. But where is putting all these creatures? Give this a read and find out!
Books 1-5 of Tamryn Tawdry's series, The Herald of Shell-lee-ya, are out and book 6 is still being written. They are the platinum standard for judging harem-lit today. They start out dirty, promptly move to filthy and continue on to shocking. Don't miss it, if that is the kind of thing you like!
Frost is up to his old tricks of protecting and providing for downtrodden demihumans and monsters. Particularly women. I like the action, humor, and lust/love. The banter between the characters is hilarious. I look forward to the next book.
Amazing addition to already awesome story, just the right mix of character development, world building and sexual encounters. Can’t wait for the next one!
This is a great series. The MC isn't a clueless idiot, which is nice as I do not enjoy that trope. He is also a heavy hitter without being God like. I will carry on with this series
There were a few typos and Frost called Des an elf a couple of times even though she is a demon. The book could of used some more fight scenes, but that's just me.
I found the story unique and very interesting and look forward to seeing the next installment of this series of books. I just wish he would tone down the porn and pay more to his relationship.
It's still a a well written book but the story is paired down quite a bit. The sex scenes are far more elaborate and take up much more of the book. It's a fun read but nowhere as good as the first or second in the series.
