Make Your Move Video Study: Finding Unshakable Confidence Despite Your Fears and Failures

Rate this book
In this six-session video Bible study (study guide sold separately), author and Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker Lynn Cowell encourages women to leave behind all the unnecessary insecurity this world induces and find confidence in God alone. Lynn demonstrates the practical life application of lessons learned from six stories in the Bible of women who set their confidence in God. She teaches today’s woman how to step out of her comfort zone to gain unwavering confidence—in all circumstances.

God has more for you; more joy, more love, more life. Then why can’t you seem to move toward all that He has for you. Each time you take a step forward, your momentum stops mid-step. Feeling fearful, forgotten and like a failure, you just can’t seem to move forward.

Delve into six stories in the Bible of not-so-well-known women who found themselves wanting more, needing more, and who uncover the faith to get it. Out of her own desire to get all that God has for her and slamming up against life’s obstacles in getting there, Lynn shares her own journey of finding unshakable confidence in our unshakable God.

In this six-session study, Lynn will help you:

Intentionally build your confidence on the one thing that cannot be taken from you.
Recover from defeating decisions to move forward toward a strong self-worth.
Position yourself to not lose your poise—even in the worst circumstances.
Identify and address the fears that keep you stuck with practical steps to walk in your calling with confidence.
Designed for use with Make Your Move Study Guide (sold separately).

When I picked up Make Your Move by Lynn Cowell, I thought my confidence was reasonable. Tucking in, I discovered so many new dimensions to Godly confidence and what walking in that confidence looks like in my daily actions. This confidence is built on the solid foundation of God’s love and allows us to step out in faith. Rooted in Biblical truths, Lynn takes the reader on a journey, discovering confidence principles within the lives of these women of scripture. She enlightens and encourages the reader each step of the way. Every chapter became my favourite as my perceptions shifted, my understanding deepened and my relationship with God grew.

Living out confidence is broken down each day into an action to try out along with prayers. Deciding to see confidence as a Godly thing, powered by Him is freeing and inspiring. I think my favourite principle is do it scared, waiting for it to feel easy is not going to work! I love the concept of loving each other and building one another up rather than comparison. Each time I read a bible study, I now think about the show of confidence each person exhibits. Lynn has a great sense of humor and adds fun to each chapter!

Lynn’s honesty and openness really allowed me to relate and the bible characters remind me of what I can do through God. Raheb, Deborah, the Daughters of Z, I carry each as a beacon of hope for those darker days. Make A Move highlights the elements in confidence I hadn’t previously noticed and I really enjoyed learning how to build it, one step at a time. While painting the bigger picture, Lynn highlighted the next thing I could do that day. She made increasing my confidence feel achievable. Regularly encouraging me to dig into the bible and think on verses drew me closer to God and improved my understanding of God’s word.

Favourite quotes include:

“Just because we feel afraid that doesn’t mean it’s not God. We may fear failure or looking like a fool. Often, the discomfort of doing something we have never done tries to lock us down before we even get started.”

“Lynn’s honesty and openness really allowed me to relate and the bible characters remind me of what I can do through God. Raheb, Deborah, the Daughters of Z, I carry each as a beacon of hope for those darker days. Intellectually, Make A Move highlighted the elements in confidence I hadn’t previously noticed and I really enjoyed learning how to build it, one step at a time. While painting the bigger picture, Lynn highlighted the next thing I could do that day. She made increasing my confidence feel achievable. Regularly encouraging me to dig into the bible and think on verses drew me closer to God and improved my understanding of God’s word.

“One of the Hebrew words for courage is ruah, which can mean, “breath of God” and can be used to describe God’s creative activity. Just as He did in Genesis 1, God is creating something out of nothing in you and me. In ourselves, we don’t possess confidence, courage or bravery. He is forming this fortitude where there has been a void; where it has never existed before. He is very good at making something out of nothing. Psalm 33:6-9 tells us “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” (NIV) According to Genesis 1 and Psalm 33:6-9, what does God use to create something out of nothing? From these verses, what can we learn about the power of words?”

“Maybe like me, you are blessed to have witnessed the courage of another, and it’s empowered you to be brave. We have to be careful not to grow comfortable or complacent when we’re in the middle of the chain but instead be empowered by the Holy Spirit to keep stretching; keep courage going. Where will you invest in another to keep that chain of courage going? Let’s display daring boldness and in turn, teach others to be courageous We can start by:

Praying for courage:

Surrounding ourselves with others who are courageous.
Reading stories of others who’ve been courageous in the Bible or in books.
Take one small step to help bring change to the life of another”
“Maybe you would be willing to join me in an exercise I did when I read Jesus’ defense of Mary. I shut my eyes and pictured Jesus doing the same thing for me that He did for Mary. Coming to my rescue, He commanded “Leave her alone.” I’ve never done that before, but after I did, I had a very real sense: I don’t have to go back to that place in my past again. Painful encounters, whether they come from strangers, friends, or family, damage our confidence. Jesus wants to restore our ability to trust and believe in His protection.”

“Friend, this journey you and I are on together is a journey of endurance. It is a journey toward finishing well. Ending well requires us to every day, day after day, make the shift: dependence on me to dependence on You, Lord.”
It’s a five out of five for me on this one, I highly recommend purchasing the book!

I am absolutely loving this study! I have always struggled with having a lot of confidence in myself, but I am great at encouraging others, and building their confidence.

Lynn Cowell introduces us to some not so well known women in the Bible, who show amazing confidence and faith in God. These women faced their fears, had the courage to do it afraid, and were more fearful of God than people.

No matter what you may be going through, God can use any situation to build your confidence and give you the unshakable courage to make your move!

The DVD series is also available with this book. You will be encouraged by Lynn as she shares personal stories and Biblical wisdom throughout the study.

I highly recommend this study to all! Of course it can be done alone. But I recommend getting some friends together and doing it as a group. Because as Lynn says, "We are more confident and courageous together. Surrounding ourselves with others who are also moving forward in their faith encourages us each day to keep moving in God's direction."

I was provided a copy of this study by the author in exchange for my honest review. This is my honest review.

I have really been enjoying this study. It's about finding your confidence, which is something that I have struggled with my entire life. For various reasons I have never been confident in myself. Working through this study has really been an eye opener for me. The confidence that these women had in the Bible was amazing. Some of these women were not even very well know at all. But they did what they felt was right and moved in confidence and faith. I'm going to be referring back to this book often. The video teachings that go along with this study are really awesome too. I highly recommend this study.

Lynn Cowell guides us through the stories of women in scripture to encourage you to develop a confidence in Christ that cannot be shaken. I highly recommend this Bible study. She dives deep into these womens' stories, some of whom I had never studied before, and shows how we too can have courage in our own lives. I underlined half the book! I did the study on my own, but it is written to be done as a group, and I am sure the discussion questions help take the application even deeper.

Make your Move. Finding unshakable confidence despite your fears and failures the title kind of says it all. Lynn shares from her heart her own personal walk in how she’s gained confidence when she didn’t have any. Thank you Lynn I’ve been crying out to my Heavenly Father for confidence and you’ve helped me discover mine.

When I heard Lynn Cowell speak about the Old Testament daughters of Zelophahad at She Speaks 2017, I was intrigued by her insight. These women displayed brave confidence and trust in God, especially within the limitations of their culture. Oh, how I need their inspiration today!

I also appreciate Lynn’s disclosure of her confidence struggles. As an aspiring author in the traditionally-published market, I’m always searching for behind-the-scenes stories from authors who have succeeded. Lynn has done so, but not without multiple rejections. She had to push through 19 no’s and several discouraging years to receive the one yes she desired. Along the way, she had to cling to confidence that God’s calling in her life wasn’t imagined or superficial. She had to learn to persist, like the daughters of Z. This book is about persisting in courage, based on faith in the one true God.

Make Your Move is my devotional of choice for January 2018. Skimming through the stories, I laughed out loud several times at Lynn’s wit and wisdom. She is humble and self-effacing, which draws me into the study. She digs into many different biblical examples of courage, giving fresh insight into familiar texts. The questions she poses in each chapter help me consider how many areas I am lacking in confidence–way more than I expected. This book will help me grow in areas neglected far too long. Make Your Move is already inspiring my faith in 2018, and it will do the same for you.

Lynn speaks into the insecure voids the modern world creates with this, her latest book and Bible study. She draws inspiration from women in the Bible who perhaps are not quite so well known and haven't received the historical publicity they deserve. I appreciate how Lynn used the stories of these women to offer thoughts and practical advice on how to develop or remember the complete security and confidence that all who follow Christ have access to. I appreciate the opportunity I had to read an advance copy of this book and wholeheartedly recommend it to women, ministry leaders who work with women, and all who need to work on building confidence in unsteady times.

If you are someone whose confidence level is linked to your achievement and performance, this book is for you. With Biblical insight and authenticity, Lynn helped me to realize I can have unshakable confidence because I have an unshakeable God. My confidence is built on who He is and not what I can do. I can’t lose it or have it taken away because it was never about me. This truth has set me free to allow God to make His move in me, so I am confident to make my move for Him.
