The Dark Choir #5

The Dark Principle

Rate this book
Now that Dorian Lake has found his soul… it has never been farther from his grasp!

Living without a soul has brought Dorian to new lows. Now a full-fledged Curse Merchant, he has solidified his stranglehold over the city of Baltimore, ruling like a true Netherworker. Romantically entwined with a Strega, guilty of killing with magic, and free of Presidium oversight, Dorian Lake needs his soul more than ever if he wants to avoid damnation. And at long last… he’s found it!

The catch: Dorian can’t secure his soul without destroying the lives of everyone he holds dear. There is no time to find a solution, as the Dark Choir has sent Felix Parrish to acquire the soul. Parrish will stop at nothing to capture his quarry… raising an army of possessed minions, pitting Dorian against Federal agents, even calling in the Surgical Swordsman to capture the soul’s vessel. The chase leads Dorian on a journey across America, into the hands of old friends and enemies alike, searching for some way… any way… to beat the Dark Choir at their own game.
Can Dorian survive the onslaught and save the ones he loves? And will the secrets he uncovers in his own family’s history prove to be the key to freeing his soul, or the very road to eternal damnation?

J.P. Sloan is a speculative fiction author … primarily of urban fantasy, horror and several shades between. His writing explores the strangeness in that which is familiar, at times stretching the limits of the human experience, or only hinting at the monsters lurking under your bed.

A Louisiana native, Sloan relocated to the vineyards and cow pastures of Central Maryland after Hurricane Katrina, where he lives with his wife and son. During the day he commutes to the city of Baltimore, a setting which inspires much of his writing.

In his spare time, Sloan enjoys wine-making and homebrewing, and is a certified beer judge.

Always worth a read.

Book 5 is an excellent addition to the series. There are lots of excitement and unexpected developments. As always the characters are well developed and nothing seems forced. The dialogue is sublime. I very much look forward to the next installment. I highly recommend this series.

Great

Can't wait for the next installment. This book packed a while lot of story. In fact at one point I thought the book was wrapping up and looked down to to see I was only 35% of the way into the story. I was pleasantly surprised. This series has grown in me immensely. Well worth the investment of your time.

After the last installment I was seriously worried about the path Dorian was on, but I'm happy to report that everything works out beautifully in this entry in the sometimes bleak, but always entertaining Dark Choir series. More thoughtful review to come.
