I feel extremely sorry to even say this but in the end I had to DNF this. Not because it was bad but it did not capture my attention. The little bit that I did read, I found funny but not enough to keep me reading for over another 100 more chapters. I did pick this up because I love the author's previous novel Eight Treasure Trousseau but unfortunately this did not do the same trick to me.

This is an extremely charming and funny slice-of-life xianxia adventure novel. Reading it always puts me in a great mood. Kong Hou is a fantastic protagonist, kind and optimistic without being a push-over. And the cultivation sect that she's in is a breath of fresh air as well, filled with people who want the best for each other, and with people who emphasize work-life balance who prefer relaxation and good food to mindlessly pursuing cultivation. If you've read a lot of novels in the xianxia genre, you'll enjoy how this book lightly pokes fun at the common tropes & turns them on their heads.

Finally, there's a het romance without the obligatory screeching female rival villains. The supporting characters all have their own complex motivations and thoughts, with none of them flawless or irredeemably evil. Only the villains that the righteous sects fight against are the bad guys. Otherwise, there may be characters who get jealous, or characters who dislike the main character, but they're never portrayed as completely in-the-wrong, they sometimes change their minds, and their motivations are understandable.

I highly recommend this for a fluffy, low-stakes read.

4.5. cute and light hearted.

tho it had the whole twilight thing of a 17 year old getting with someone hundreds of years old so it’s gross in that aspect. but other then that and the slightly abrupt ending it was cute and had some really funny moments. oh there are some colorist comments that are said so that was also gross.

but there’s really no conflict between the main couple there are no serious misunderstandings. they don’t break up for multiple chapters and get together again later. they basically are friends for the entire novel and don’t get together until around maybe chapter 110 or something like that. it’s pretty short only 156 chapters so it’s quick and easy to read. also all conflict in the novel is resolved very quickly. so there isn’t really any angst. there are some sad moments but it’s for side characters not the main character and male lead. it is a cultivation novel but it’s not really heavily done like most cultivation novels. it’s like cultivation light™️. very easy to understand and not drawn out.

personally my favorite part of the novel is the main character and the main characters sect. you kno how in most cultivation novels there are always jealous disciples and scheming and powerful inner disciples bullying weak outer disciples? this book literally has none of that. her whole sect is like one big family. they all love each other and love to hang out and be lazy and eat good food. one character even says something about how there’s no need to be jealous of the MCs cultivation getting higher bc that means they can be more lazy since she’s getting all the face for the sect so they don’t have to worry about it. also it’s really cute how when she’s out traveling all the disciples are talking constantly about how she’s unstoppable and the best. when she convinced the cooking sect to come to her sect all the elders and disciples basically worshipped her just bc the love to eat good food. and then being really happy that she sends all of them souvenirs from her travels not just to the eldest disciples and elder but to all of the disciples, outer included. the MC is honestly super likable... she’s kind, funny, and super cute.

Fluffiest xianxia you’ll ever read (and fluffier than any c-drama I’ve watched out there). Feel good vibes all around, with great translations too.

It's now 1/18/24 ... but anyway THIS WAS THE MOST SWEETEST CANDY SWEET BOOK. The translator mentioned this was a shift in the author's writing to happier and more humorous ... I'm not exactly mad about it (though I loved both).

I want to give it five stars and I would but for not loving the ending like OMFG GIVE ME FUCKING CLOSURE OKAY?! It's IMO an open ended happy ending - like you KNOW the ML and FL are together and living happily but ... WHAT HAPPENED TO/WITH THEM?! THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOWWWWW.
LOL I wonder how the drama dealt with it. I'm possibly too highly anticipating it - though I'm basically feeling like they're gonna do some sort of WRTW shit considering LHY is the ML and I'm 99.99% sure he got top billing/the focus is now on him not FL. Sigh.

Their interaction was so cute! So much of the book was so damn cute!
I just ... *sigh* felt like the end kinda dropped the ball like MAKE THINGS CLEAR DAMMIT.
... "salted fish uncle" has GOT to be that nomad cultivator who ascended ... (But wait does that mean people who ascend to immortality can come back?) Or did he NOT ascend? See? QUESTIONS.

If/whenever I need a pick me up though I'll definitely re-read this book. I LOVED how freaking supportive their respective sects were - and of their relationship. There was only "a problem" when there was a misunderstanding which 🤦🏻‍♀️. LOL These damn people need to LEARN TO COMMUNICATE.

A- I think
~*~*~*~*~
C2 awwww yay the immortal has taken FL away from her shifty circumstances!! ❤️❤️💯

C5 lol I kinda love her pauper unreliable shifu and ❤️ hopefully get her 2 shixiong continue to be good AND her luck stays if not increases 💯❤️

C9 ahhh awwww a pentad spirit base!!! Lol this story is so damn sweet and cuuuuuttteee.

C26 and only ~2nd appearance of ML (2 encounters in the same “leaving the city” counts as one yes?) - I am cracking up knowing in the drama ML is Li HongYi - my dude why do you always play the super talented outstanding but sickly guy? 😹 (tho the author likes this trope too - Pearl & Jade ML is, & she wrote the book A Girl Like Me is based on too…)

<.< I just have the strong feeling Huan Zhong (ML) is the “Talented Author” 🫠 … 😜😅 is his “trial” finding someone who likes all his books? ☠️

Just about to start c30 and tbh I REALLY miss ML’s POV, imo he’s already ~imprinted on FL so gimme the smittenness!!!!

C31 obvs Huan Zhong is also that “9’ guy” and … now I feel pretty weird FL is 16 and ML is 300+… like… 😖😬😖😖😖

C38 awww KH has her 1st real battle. Kinda love how HZ was like “go be experienced I’m here” it was legit life and death for her but he let it go/wouldn’t have let anything happen to her ❤️

C41 😹😹😹☠️☠️☠️ Radiance Sect is SO EXCITED HZ has a friend. The gifts and confusion 💯 (and HZ & KH’s total unconcern/cluelessness about worth).

>.> c43 I think HZ giving KH the hairpin she liked in the shop means both more and less than I think. More as in HE LIKES HER! Less as in he def still doesn’t realize it…

C53 lolol I KNEW IT! HZ is “Talented Author.” And lolz to his sect Junior having his mind blown at how “shameless” ML is lolz. Ah misunderstandings.

C58 “ The highest level of lying was to make other people suspect their memory was wrong.” also HZ using whatever energy when he shouldn’t though :/
I wonder what his mental block is.

59 noooOOOOOoooo lol I literally said that out loud & stopped reading to post this when Lin Hu interrupts HZ/ZX as he’s about to tell KH/confess he’s both. ARGH.
Ugh so he was promoted by Hong Ling like I get it but I also want to beat her into the ground 😡😒
What is up with Gui Ling in the Auspicious Cloud Sect though like is he a spy? A demon sect guy? What?

😒 c67 we finally found out square head guy is the leader of primary luck sect 😒 I hope he gets beaten down soon. Also wondering if they’ll keep the square head thing for the drama & who will play him…
(C68? Shuang Qing imo def killed his older sect brother to get power…)

C69 literally lol’d at the end - sure you talked about wanting her as your student before / but turning your spoon into powder just cuz dude gave her soup… my guy ML you’re smitten even if you don’t know it
(ALSO OMFG THE RIBBON GIFT)

C75 I was literally screaming at the gifts the spirit realm gave ML & FL after their dreams the gifts are SO PERFECT FOR THE OTHER AHHH. And LB still clueless like “ZX/HZ you treat KH like your daughter” ☠️☠️☠️

C83 sigh ok so cloud sect “disciple” Gui Ling def is a Prinary Luck Sect spy. But how did he know about the merpeople scales.
Heh dunno what chapter (this?) but KH talking to the spirit realm sentience ❤️ I hope they meet again. And I loved Radiance Sect being so joyful for ZX/HZ. Some confusion there but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Eeee c98 KH is FINALLY having thoughts of “what if” re: relationship! Also… the Cloud Sect elders will def recognize ZX/HZ… Right? 🙃

C102 what a low key identity reveal 🫠 but ZX is a peak master so why does WC the future leader of Cloud only call him path friend when he knows his true identity? Everyone else that is a peak master gets called one 😒😡

C109 I absolutely ADORE how caring cloud sect is & how they’re so indifferent to material things - lol you ZX/HZ thinking they might actually be the wealthiest sect 💯❤️ come on dragon phoenix cauldron be amazing! I’m anxious about their year in seclusion/pairing - GL better not hurt them 😡

C110 lol oops the cauldron also? Mainly? Interlinks feelings. Also huh based on dramas etc I thought seclusion was legit constant mediation. But here they do stuff. I can’t imagine going into seclusion alone esp for decades. (Or even weeks?)

Gaaaah c113 these misunderstandings are both hilarious and killing me!! Gaaah!!! I love how caring everyone is though these sect elders 🥰🥰🥰 (earlier the translator said ZX/HZ is like the baby of Radiance Sect, KH both is/isn’t of Cloud Sect ❤️ love that everyone knows her shifu is protective & temperamental.)

C114 aaaaaahhhhh our brave girl she asked him out!!!!
🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ to her shifu though like <.< he’s gotta be on the spectrum right? Something? lol. THESE DAMN MISUNDERSTANDINGS

C123 ahhhhh at Pei city! Lol to them previously capturing the evil fox yao - srsly does the evil sect lord like that woman or not? 🤷🏻‍♀️
But to ZX telling KH it’s THEIR treasury 😻 (lol and end of 122; how specially this peak/hall is decorated for cloud sect… like that elder HAS to know by now… right?! 🙃)

C124 him giving her all his treasures/access to them & her telling him he’s the most precious treasure ❤️❤️❤️
… hopefully that crazy ass diviner lady doesn’t try to interfere. And hopefully her sect junior doesn’t have ideas either 😒

C130 lol KH is a lucky star! Just 2 days of conference & after ~discussing with her 2 people have had breakthroughs! … what about our girl?! And our guy?! I want them to level up! 💯❤️

C132 NO NOT FAIR! Even the evil demon sect lord leveled up after speaking with KH?!?! Why him?! 😡😡
(Oh it was a ~fake out…)

C144 lol “training montage of 0 training” we didn’t even get to see KH at all. But since she’s cultivated 100 years in the secret realm… is her “bone age” 118 or the 10 “real world” years so she’s now 28? Anyway I hope she jumped THREE levels this time 💯 love she bounces out and is like “let’s get married ASAP!”

C145 awwwww why did the secret world “throw her out in disdain” in 95 years?! lol did she absorb too much of the spirit energy?

C152 uhoh hopefully KH’s bad dream meant nothing. And lol to the groom’s procession - super grand, super ostentatious. Yay for just raining 🧧 😜

Oh no a rather open end 😖☠️ happy but inconclusive 🫥

I read the book here https://dreamsofjianghu.ca/ascending-...

This is mostly a relaxed, cozy-feeling sort of novel, and I think it shines the brightest when it follows that slice of life vibe. The section of the novel where Kong Hou and Huan Zhong are traveling together was probably my favorite part, whereas the bits focused on Kong Hou

I love how kind the world of the orthodox cultivators is. There are rivalries, and sometimes people and sects clash or don’t get along, but there’s also plenty of examples of people being good to and helping each other. There are many characters throughout the novel who would’ve been a one-note villain in a different novel, but get to have human motivations and complexity in this one.

For instance, one of of my favorite side characters ended up being a sect master plotting against Kong Hou’s sect. He’s scheming, ambitious, petty-minded, and wants to take over her sect’s place in the rankings—but also has his own sense of honor, frets about how to best do so without giving the people who want to overthrow the harmony of the cultivation world more of a foothold, and deeply cares for the wellbeing of the disciples of his sect, even those who could be considered a burden on the sect’s resources.

The only exception to this is the treatment of the evil cultivators, which did bother me. They really were one-note caricatures of evil, which, after seeing the more nuanced treatment of other antagonistic side characters, felt quite disappointing, and I was a little disturbed about how casual the main characters were about killing evil cultivators. Their argument was, to not kill them is to show disrespect to the lives those evil cultivators had taken, but didn’t they just carelessly take a life too? Something about the framing of that didn’t quite work for me.

I loved the emphasis on the importance of love in this story—and not just romantic love, though obviously, as a romance, that does play an important role. There’s two central questions posed throughout the novel: first, why has it been so many centuries since the last time a cultivator successfully ascended? And second, is love an impediment to cultivation?

It’s made clear fairly early on that Kong Hou’s great success and talent as a cultivator is nourished in great part because of her capacity for love—for her sect, for the people who’ve cared for her, for the world itself. I particularly loved this moment, which is the emotional turning point for Kong Hou overcoming one of her earliest ordeals.

She had learned not to be terrified, she had received love, and learned it. As a cultivator, one did not need just braveness—they also needed to feel love for the world.

Again and again, the novel rejects the idea that love is an impediment, that emotions stand in the way of being strong. Kong Hou is powerful and talented and loving; Huan Zhong only manages to increase his cultivation after many years of staying at a standstill because of how he learns to feel.

“Spirit Master, love is not a weakness to cultivation.” Kong Hou detected that Hong Yan’s emotions were not quite right, but at this time, she still chose to refuse. “This junior cultivates a path of doing as one wishes. Love is love, joy is joy; I do not want to give them up.”

and

When they had someone they wanted to protect, they would become stronger. In the past, he didn’t understand but he did now. Having terror, worry, happiness and sadness was not wrong. People were gifted with these emotions when born. Why did one have to forcibly abandon these emotions?

In the past, he thought being emotionless was being invincible. Now he finally knew that understanding emotions was true strength.

And it’s not just them, either—there are other examples too of cultivators advancing because of their care for others or kindness that is shown to them.

As for the other central question, the main villain tries to posit that it’s because

In short, despite some flaws, this was a cozy, charming story that places a great emphasis on the importance of people being good to each other and expressing their feelings, and I enjoyed reading it.

This was such a cute story! It had feel good vibes the entire way, even during times of conflict or when the bad guys appeared. The romance was really cute and straightforward and didn't have any annoyingly dragged out or overly dramatic parts.

I loved the build up of the relationship between Kong Hou and Huan Zhong. They first meet as strangers and then decide to start traveling together, so you can see how they gradually become closer. Lin Hu being constantly present as the third wheel provided an outsider's perspective on their interactions, especially since he's been with HZ for so long and lets us know how out of the norm HZ's behavior is. By the end, KH really has HZ whipped and wrapped around her little pinky XD

Kong Hou's character was great too. She is very mature for her age and intelligent. I get annoyed when female characters are written to be stupid or make silly mistakes, but she doesn't do any of that. She knows when to fight her battles and when to flee and when to hide behind HZ and ask for his help. Plus her luck is insane. I can't believe she was able to help HZ find most of the legendary or extinct medicinal ingredients he needed like it was nothing. Give me some of that luck!!

Huang Zhong's personality really undergoes a 180. He's so cold to everyone else, even his master, but around her he becomes the mushiest, most lovey dovey person you can imagine. It was hilarious to read what other people thought about their relationship and public interactions, not only Lin Hu, but also the various folks from the Radiance and Splendid Cloud Sects who come into contact with the couple.

I seriously can't state enough how much I appreciated the lack of petty drama in this book. Usually in a romance heavy novel, this is done through misunderstandings between the couple or the appearance of a love rival. There was no such thing in this story, which was such a breath of fresh air. The only misunderstandings were mostly between Wang Tong (Kong Hou's master) and some other folks, and even that was cleared up pretty quickly. As far as between the couple themselves, Kong Hou confessed to Huan Zhong in a pretty direct manner after finding herself thinking improper thoughts about him a couple times. Nothing drawn out or wishy washy about it at all. Even the potential love rivals didn't get much of a chance, since they quickly wised up to the feelings between KH and HZ and gave up before anything started.

My favorite side characters were Lin Hu and the salted fish seller. Lin Hu for reasons stated above (loved his commentary), but the salted fish seller for his interesting personality and how he casually just dropped in on the big climactic battle at the end just to congratulate Kong Hou and Huan Zhong on their paired ceremony. I was really curious who he was, so thank goodness for the extra story at end that delves into more of his past.

My only complaint about this story is that Kong Hou never finds out the identity of her favorite Talented Author!! When it was introduced as a plot point, I thought for sure the author would save the big reveal for an important moment or turning point in their relationship, but nothing ever came of it and the story ended with KH ignorant of Talented Author's true identity. I was a little bit disappointed by that...

I loved this story from the beginning to the end. Would love to revisit it again at some point in the future!

Who decreed that cultivation xianxia stories have to be filled with trials and tribulations, numerous lifetimes of suffering? Ascending, Do Not Disturb makes one question this. This is on the heels of reading about the latest Chinese xianxia novel to be adapted into a drama Chong Zi 重紫 which sounds awfully like Hua Qian Gu. And I started reading ADND because of a recommendation on a drama review website complaining about how the currently airing Ancient Love Poetry is so formulaic.

ADND is pleasant. It's been described as a 'leisurely slice of life cultivation' story. The OTP couple didn't really capture me but the age difference (16 vs 300) didn't eek me out either. I liked reading about all the different sects in Lingyou Valley, where those cultivating live before hopefully ascending. A few characters were particularly memorable: Lin Hu (part yao, bodyguard to male lead) and Uncle Salted Fish. It's also neat how the paths to cultivation in this world are many: by sword, divination, forging, playing musical instruments, controlling beasts even cooking!

I liked this work better than the palace intrigue one I'd just read by the same author. While it's more unrealistic to me that the heroine has everything going her way being a highly ranked junzhu while her husband is plotting for the throne (even the Empress Dowager loves her, because she is ... good looking) in 八宝妆 Eight Treasures Trousseau , xianxia is completely fictional. So why not that a ten year old princess from the former dynasty in the mortal world gets taken in by a kindly cultivation master, that she has numerous supportive shixiongs and shijies, her cultivation progress is rapid, she meets the love of her life while out gaining experience. I didn't know this was the same author that wrote Just One Smile is Alluring but it makes sense. No matter the setting, things go very smoothly and auspiciously for the protagonists. The evil ones are mostly one-dimensional and are defeated without fuss. After reading, one's head is not buzzing with profound questions or contradictory thoughts. It didn't move me like 天官赐福 Tiān Guān Cì Fú .

The summary really made me have certain expectations and the book was not that so a part of me felt disappointed which definitely ruined the book a little for me (my fault). I was interested at the start, like I was wondering where it was going to go and how she would progress in cultivation. Then it turned into a slice of life traveling book with a very small side of cultivation. The slice of life aspect was refreshing as it isn't common in this genre however it wasn't all that interesting. The constant misunderstanding other people were having about them was pretty entertaining but that was about it.

Since I was expecting more cultivating, I was expecting more time skips, and they had them in the start but then she started journeying at 16 and I realized the author decided that was good enough???? Like now she was old enough for a 300+ year old man to fall for her. How hard is it to write her like 3 years older? Preferably like 5 years older. I am so tired. Why is this so hard. What does her being 16 add to the story accept the chance to have him refer to her as a 'young girl' over and over again???? You would think the author is into children. To make matters worse there are jokes about him acting like her father. She literally fatherzones him. why.

Don't get me wrong, Huan Zhong was my favourite character in the book, I just have overall concerns. Most characters don't stick out in any way; their main job is to provide reactions to the main couple lol. Characters just didn't really have much depth. Even the main characters were lacking in some ways. Like, you are telling me that she spends 100 years by herself and has no change in character at all??? like none? The characters weren't fleshed out at all, there were no backstories so I didn't connect to anyone. So character details I would find important and interesting were just never explained or mentioned. Same with certain plot points. Clearly the author and I had different priorities (like making sure the audience knows that Kong Hou is a young girl)

And the end? I won't spoil, but like all that and for what? It was giving "the real treasure is the friends we made along the way".

Overall, this book wasn't a favourite of mine, however if you are looking for a slice of life, slowburn set in a cultivation world where mc is op, stupid lucky, a little silly and loved by all, then this is for you.

4 stars for the first two-thirds, 2.5 stars for the last part.

While most xianxia has elements of slice of life, this one takes it one step further. It is a slice of life romance, and it was done well.

Characters: 2/5 they were okay
World: 3.5/5 I liked it a lot
Story: 4/5 I really liked it

Characters:
The characters are basic by design, and that's not that bad. The characters are fundamentally the same people at the start and at the end. This book is is more about the falling in love and the story than it is about the characters, so the lack of depth and change is permissable.

World:
The world is unique in all the books I have read and well done. The world is a compassionate world, where the kind have an easier time getting strong, so all the sects are good guys trying to help mortals and other people. Unlike something like Cultivation 40k (I will never stop calling it that. Ever :) where people in power are inherently mean and are just held in line by rules, there are no codes in this world, and everyone is just nice. It wasn't too taxing on the realism aspect, since all these xianxia societies are rather contrived anyway. I liked it because it was refreshing.

Story:
The story is sweet and interesting, while still being recognizably xianxia all the way through. There is still all the xianxia stuff for the entirety of the story, with people leveling up and young masters slighting people and needing to explore secret realms and make pills. However, for most of the story the girl is with the boy, and so they have unique ways to solve problems other than the standard killing that you see in most xianxia. It is very refreshing. They also acknowledge some of the more annoying tropes of the genre and avoid them. For example, after they get some good stuff, the girl will say that they should hurry back to the sect, because the stories say that people who got good stuff will have it stolen. Because this type of xianxia was new to me, I'm giving it a high rating, so if you already read stuff like this, you might not appreciate this book as much as I did.

Stopped @Ch 36

1. There's... really not much of a plot in this one. And while I regularly insist how plot isn't the most important thing for a story, that doesn't actually extend to complete lack of any kind of conflict? Who knew.

2. It was mostly a terribly boring story populated with somewhat interesting characters. And I do like some of the ideas and elements and how they interact with each other! The laid back cultivation peak is a delight, especially Wang Tong who is my favourite. The MC being a genuinely nice person is good. The love interest being a terrible hack of an author and the MC being the only person who likes his novels is also good. (And okay that hasn't been confirmed yet but come on.) The Love Interests' retainer has next to zero lines and a lot of mental facepalms and I really like him. The Love Interest is dying from a mysterious Victorian coughing sickness and since he's you know, a he, that makes it an interesting and unusual subversion.

3. But these are all individual elements with potential, which are unfortunately part of a story where all the romance cliches are given full reign. I still have a bit of hope in things being subverted in the future because I'm about 20% through the story, but eh. The repeated use of cliches, the clear setting up of the MC as the manic pixie dream girl, and the "super powerful love Interest follows MC around and effectively steals her thunder" trope kinda sapped away most of my enjoyment.

4. So I'm abandoning it at Chapter 36 with a tentative maybe I'll pick this up later because Victorian Illness. //shruggif

Ascending, Do Not Disturb is a light hearted, comedic and sweet cultivation romance story.

Not for even one moment did Kong Hou(FL) or Huan Zhong(ML) annoy me. I love both of them dearly since the 1st chapter and until the last chapter(chapter 158).

Their romance is a slow pace one but that doesn't bother me because their interactions and conversations are really funny.

Kong Hou is love and dotes on by her master, 2 shixiong(senior brothers), the elders of her sect, the peak masters of her sect and also her sect members.

Huan Zhong has always been cold and emotionless for the past 300 years but after meeting Kong Hou, he found joy in life and love in Kong Hou. Huan Zhong's master, the Radiance Sect master and peak masters all love and protect Huan Zhong fiercely. He's like the baby of the sect, everyone are worried about him even though they all know that he is stronger than most people.

I love how easy going and carefree Splendid Cloud Sect are and how the members of the sect highly values food. But they can also be ferocious, if one of their sect member is bullied, everyone will find out how tough their sect is.

My favorite character in the novel apart from Kong Hou and Huan Zhong gotta be Elder Lin Hu. He is a servant to Huan Zhong and all of his inner monologues/thoughts are freaking funny. He is the biggest victim of the sweetness between Kong Hou and Huan Zhong. It's so funny how Kong Hou and Huan Zhong unintentionally forgot about Lin Hu and just have their sweet interactions like they are alone lol.

Oh yeah, Elder Qiu Shuang and Uncle Salted Fish are also funny lol.

One of the cutest Novels and a wonderful experience pulling oneself to a beautiful journey, I really couldn't bring myself to part with this novel , the relationship between the characters is so heartwarming the ending too is great but didn't seem fulfilling it didn't quench my thirst , I still wanted to know more about their post ascension , but some things better be unknown to leave room for imagination and other possibilities
I read some of this author's other novels and this one could be considered a turning point in the style of writing and characters development , reading this felt so refreshing especially that my taste revolves mainly around revenge and drama novels where mcs face slap jealous and scheming brainless characters left and right

It was good.... but I had no clue what was it leading to.

I kept wondering a bunch of things which was really distracting in front of the content in the book:
1. If she going to ascend?
2. Where's the other lead?
3. Is she going to ascend?
4. It's funny but what's the point?
5. Is she going to ascend?
6. Hahaha everyone's cool, it's all so cool! Now, why can't I pay attention to this?
7. Is she going to ascend or not?! Why is this taking foreverrrr!

The point is, the plot was as repetitive as my questions. It was becoming monotonous. So, dropped it.

This was a super cute and fluffy read. Kong Hou is a genre savvy protagonist. Her sect is also super nice and I love how cute and wholesome her sect is. The adventures and fights are fun. The romance is also super cute, the ML is an interesting character and the chemistry between the two is so cute. This is also a really funny read, and just so wholesome. This is one of the most wholesome xianxia novels I have ever read. This is so different from Yue Xia Die Ying's other web novels, but just as good.

95% fluff. I did not particular like the male lead and the romance didn't really click for me, but I love the side characters (and there are many) and the world building is hilarious and fascinating. This is the most benign form of the xianxia typical problem of age gap and manic dream pixie girl that I've seen. Very slow paced and soothing (think CATERER AT MAIKO MANOR). It's weird to find something in this genre that has so little angst.

Absolutely adorable.
This novel might be 100% fluff, but it's quality fluff, the sort that will heal your heart and cushion your mind in soft blankets. It's also very well written and funny, but mostly adorable, sweet and possessing the single cultivation sect I'd ever climb a mountain to join (and they'd welcome pastry cook me with open arms, I'm telling you).

I love this book....been a while I had a fluffy xianxia book I enjoyed as much as I enjoyed this... I could totally picture this as a chinese drama starring dilraba as kong hou and vengo gao or yang yang as zhong xi ....I totally want it. The other steady fluff like this are always yaoi books

Loved the story, the comedic overtone throughout the book was well done. Definitely a fun read. The ending was a bit weak and lagging though.

A light hearted and funny read from one of my favorite authors. I like how they didn't fall I to the cliche of silly misunderstandings between leads, and between their sects.
