Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

Rate this book
Nothing's more magical than going down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass with Alice. There, in worlds unlike any other ever created, conventional logic is turned upside down and wrong-way round to enchanting effect. Children will love reading Carroll's many humorous nonsense verses and meeting such unforgettable characters as the Mad Hatter, the Knave of Hearts who steals some tarts, and the grinning Cheshire Cat (in Alice in Wonderland) and Tweedledee, Tweedledum, Humpty Dumpty, and the Jabberwock (in Through the Looking Glass).

Such a lovely book! <3

Actual Rating: 5/5

Asta-i ghicitoarea!"

"- Toate florile pot vorbi?

I read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass when I was about 10 and didn’t like the books as much as the Disney movie. Recently I read Alice I Have Been, the story of Alice Liddell and Lewis Carroll (Mr. Dodgson) and the creation of Alice in Wonderland, so I thought that it would be fun to reread the so called children’s book. It is a great imaginative children’s story but there is so much more there to discover for adult readers. I thoroughly enjoyed his play and use of words real or made up. I had no idea that the setting in Through the Looking Glass was a giant chess board and that each move Alice made was advancing her to the castling of the three Queens. If you have never read the original of these tales or read it as a child, I would recommend that you read them again.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

"She generally gave herself very good advice, (though she very seldom followed it)."

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Tut, tut, child!" said the Duchess. "Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it."

"Reeling and Writhing of course, to begin with,' the Mock Turtle replied, 'and the different branches of arithmetic-ambition, distraction, uglification, and derision."

If everybody minded their own business, the world would go around a great deal faster than it does.

We called him Tortoise because he taught us.

Alice in wonderland by Lewis Carroll

The Alice in wonderland is interesting novel and there are many chapters that each novel is filled with all the magic and excitement . It is classic starts, I like Alice’s experience that she discovered the wonderland. I read this book and also, I saw the movie. However, it is one of the best beautiful simple fantasy stories I have ever known. I like the part where Alice is fell down a rabbit hole that she discovered the most lovely garden ever. I really enjoyed when I read it. This book very fun for the children to read. Finally, when I finished read book l told my sister to read this book for her children.

I thought I would enjoy this one.
But my guess was wrong.

I didn't enjoy it as expected.

Maybe it's because I read Alice in Wonderland when I am an grown-up.
Reading children stories don't affect me much anymore.
On contrary, I found Alice being an naughty girl who wanna live in her own imaginative world and rude girl to others.

I love the movies, but I think the story makes no sense to me.
However, I will try to read the original one since this is the retold story after all.
Maybe the original story will be different.

I have always found Alice in Wonderland charming and funny. I remember reading it when I was eleven and re-reading it at 44 was like finding old (albeit somewhat quirky) friends in the dormouse, the caterpillar and the walrus and the carpenter. Through the Looking Glass seemed to take the weirdness to a different level but I still enjoyed this strange little tale (even though the white and red queens take madness to alarming heights).

Alice in Wonderland by Eva Mason is About a girl named Alice who one day while studying fell down a rabbit hole. When she got the end she found the white rabbit with a watch saying that he was late. When she went to follow him the door was locked and it had shrunk. When she finally got into the garden she found a house that was owned by the white rabbit she had saw earlier. When she got into the house to grab the rabbits white gloves. Suddenly, began to grow larger and grew to the size of the house. After a while she began to grow smaller again and got out of the house and quickly started along the path again. After some time walking she stumbled upon a long table set up with three people sitting at the other end. She sat down and they asked her why she was here and she said she didn't know. They told the door mouse , who was asleep, to tell a story to them. While he was telling the story Alice kept interrupting and they thought it was very rude so she left the tea party. When she was walking along the trail the next thing she saw was a huge castle and playing cards painting the white roses red. As they were telling her that the queen only likes red roses so they were painting them, a large group of playing cards began walking out. When all of the playing cards were gone a queen came and demanded whoever painted the roses red to have their heads chopped off. When the queen saw Alice she invited her to play croquet with her. When they got to the croquet field it was a very weird game of croquet. The clubs were flamingos and the card men where the arches. After a while of struggling to play the queen noticed that the tarts were gone. So, she called everyone to court. They called up witness and as they were doing that Alice seemed to feel her body growing bigger again. When the queen called Alice up she asked her many questions. Soon she felt her body grow and grow until she felt she was back to normal in the grass were she was before she was in the rabbit hole. She could not tell if it was a dream or not. Because it felt so real. This book is under the theme because it is so whimsical and it makes it enjoyable to read. I rated this book five stars because at the end the author wrote that Alice could not tell if being at wonderland was a dream or not because it felt so real. This made the book have a sense of mystery in it. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys funny and fantasy books because this would be a great book to read.

I really did not like this book as it scared me and I cannot imagine what it would do to little kids. I think that it could be interesting and help with the creative imagination of children in my class. I do not know right now if this is something that I would share because I would never want to scare my students.

I updated my progress to the wrong book. So what I said before was that I enjoyed rereading this book, but as a physical book this time. My book is this fancy purple book I found and bought months ago, so I decided to read it from that book.

The Disney movie of Alice in Wonderland was recently on TV and watched it, forgetting how much I had enjoyed it as a child. I remembered someone once telling me that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was their favorite book, so I thought I'd give it a try and read it. I rarely ever think a movie is better than the book, but I think Disney did a better job with the story. The book is crazy, doesn't make a lot of sense, and I just wasn't entertained at all.

A wonderful abridged version of the originals. Fascinating, wonderful, very imaginative and out of the box. The abridged version is very simple and easy to read. I cannot wait to read the original novels by Lewis Carroll. Alice in Wonderland remains one of the best and most beautiful fantasy stories I have ever known.

Well, i didn't like the book at all! i rarely find movies that are originally books not as good as the book but in this case the Disney movie is much better, actually it's kinda not fair to compare between both!for me this one didn't make sense, and i don't think as a child i would have enjoyed reading it! but again the movie was way way far more interesting.
