J.R. Jackson is a former U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer. During his career, he has been deployed all over the world working with branches of the U.S. military and military units from foreign countries.
He is currently a Military Technical Advisor for several authors and an outdoor survival and disaster mitigation educator.
The Up From the Depths series is his first venture into fictional writing.
With his 9th book in this zompoc series, Mr Jackson continues to come up with new ideas and develop existing ones in credible and interesting directions. The multiple story threads here hold the reader’s interest to the end and each are interesting. Superb stuff and looking forward to the series conclusion in Book 10.
This is a high Lee military detailed zombie apocalypse book, if you enjoy Reading how the military would handle a zombie apocalypse you’ll enjoy this book. Even though the book is detailed with military aspects it is a highly enjoyable readable book. The characters are so real that you can’t help getting engrossed with them, you do actually feel like you know them and want the best for them. The author jumps from scene to scene when critical occurrences come up in the story and you can’t help but keep on reading to find out what happens I find that an enjoyable book. The only thing that keeps it from a five is that there are not enough action scenes in my opinion. I believe there should be additional scenes with the infected after all it’s supposed to be a zombie apocalypse book from the military’s point of view. Next to RR Heywood undead series this is my second favorite zombie apocalypse series. I do believe you will enjoy it give it a shot
After 8 books in this series, I delved into this book 9, eagerly looking forward to reading more of this fantastic view of the zombie apocalypse. But I quickly became disenchanted as it focused on storylines that just don't seem to push it along as had the previous 8 books. Book 9 focuses mostly on the MAG people, and here is where I became hopelessly lost. These people don't seem to have much to do other than stand around and wonder where the people and their supplies have gone off to. They are unexciting and never seem to have anything else to do other than contemplate. Why in the world this book focuses so much on this group is beyond me. As the story wound up, I found myself skipping through their chapters, which would devolve into just moving past the entire thing. They bored me to tears. The rest of the book, with the exception of Shark Platoon, dragged along also, and it is as if this entire book was written with writer's block. Has Mr. Jackson lost focus and needs to find an ending to the whole thing? I guess I'll find out in book 10. Very disappointed in book 9...
This series just keeps on getting better and better. Do yourself a favor and go back and purchase Book 1 and while you are at it you might as well purchase the rest of the series, including this book, because you’ll save yourself the time of hunting down the rest immediately after finishing the first. It’s that good! The only other series I can equate this one with is the Arisen series by Michael Stephen Fuchs.
Read the first book. If you don’t like it you can come back here and yell at me, but I bet you will be readin the latest book within a week because you won’t be able to stop until you are forced to, and then you can anxiously await the next book like the rest of us!!
Another great installment in this series. I highly recommend you start from book one, so much going on but it flows together well. This series is well worth reading.
Intriguing series about how everyman handles a catastrophic situation. Is it the end of the world, or will a few pockets of industrious people!e start putting thing right?
J.R. Jackson is a phenomenal writer. This is an amazing series which incorporates threads from multiple character groups from all over the United States. I can usually see at least the vague pattern that ties them all together but I honestly have no idea how this is all going to come together. It's been a while since I read it and I don't remember how it all ends!
