Perception #4

Redeeming Slater

Rate this book
My heart drummed a worthy rock ballad when my eyes landed on Kylie in a dusty lot hundreds of miles from my hometown.

We couldn’t have been more opposite if we tried but melded together like Mac n Cheese. She was the sweet to my sour; the rock to my roll, and the lyrics to my ballad... until she vanished without a trace.

Now she’s back, touring with my bandmates and me.

I should hate her for leaving without saying goodbye, for the mess she left my life in, but no matter how often I tell my body she’s the enemy, he never listens.

She’s the one thing I loved more than music, but it will take more than a heartfelt serenade to crack through the wall her betrayal built around my heart.

I’m not the man she once knew, and I plan to show her that the hard way.

Redeeming Slater is a second-chance romance that will inspire you to look past the blurred lines of infamy. It has schmexy scenes and a devoted story about finding love through forgiveness. It is part of the Perception Series but can be read as a standalone, although some spoilers may occur.

Aww Slater! I heartbroken Slater. He has gone through so much. All he ever wanted to do was be in love but life kept kicking him in the ass. When we finally found out about Kylie and why she did what she did you can't help but love her! But when they were awaiting the results and she received a letter while standing at the side of the concert and she started crying I kept saying out loud, "No,No, No." Shandi can't do this! Why would Shandi put them through more hell they they have already been through. But when Slater read the letter, I was relieved just as he was but at the same time my heart broke in half. I pray I will never have to feel that Kylie went through when she lost Melanie. I cried for I don't know how long, it was just as though I lost my best friend too. I would be lost without mine. But I loved the way Melanie handled everything with the letters and the videos. It for sure helped everybody with their grieving process. It's just too bad that Kylie wasn't able to be by Melanie's side. Then when Slater got the call and all Kylie could do was apologize to him for being sick. My stomach turned into knots. Then he told her that she was pregnant. That was the most magical thing ever. The fact that he knew even for a moment or two before she knew gave me all sorts of fuzzy feelings. Again thank you for writing how you write! Please don't ever stop!

This author is new to me, and I found myself enjoying this story. I love a good rock star romance, and 2nd chance romances are one of my favorites. This ticked all of the boxes for me.

Slater is a broken-hearted rock star who thrives behind a drum kit, but it's when he walks off-stage that the world hits him full-force. He doesn't give his heart easily, and the one time he did, he had it broken. Now, the woman who did the damage is back in his life, and he's having trouble fighting the feelings that are swimming back to the surface. He isn't even sure if he wants to.

Kylie didn't want to go to this concert, but her friend Melanie dragged her anyway. She has her reasons for leaving Slater behind two years prior, but she isn't sure she could ever tell him. Yet, the more time she spends around him, the more she wants to be honest. The closer they get, the more she realizes she'd like another chance. But with the ghosts of the past lurking in the background, she has to decide if this is something she can do again without breaking more hearts than her own.

There's so much going on in the background that we aren't told about until toward the end of the story. And the reveals along the way are so eye-opening and heart-wrenching. There were moments that had me laughing out loud and others that brought me to tears. And within the story in a story, the situational moments of a rock band at their height, on-stage and off, are only a glimpse of the reality of fame brings. I'm glad I picked this book up and decided to read it. And I'll definitely look into reading more of the author's works.

This is another great book, i love each of the books in this series. They are just amazing. She is great at giving back stories when needed and she makes these stories very relatable and believable. Yes we get love and hea at the end but the journey to get isnt easy or smooth, just like irl. There are bumps and heartache but that is just life, and yes sometimes life can be a real witch sometimes and seem so unfair but as long as you have your family (either by blood or ones you have choosen to be your family) you can get through anything. And I love the growth of these guys, they have gone from being boys who think with the head between their legs and want to screw pretty much anything with legs to finding the one and falling so head over ass in love that even in a room full of other women they only have eyes for the one they love. And then of course them having kids is just the icing on the cake, they are all so scared to have em and then once they are here they cant imagine why they were so scared to begin with. I will say i think Slater's book is the only one that made me cry, i had tears with all of em but his is the only one i actually wanted to bawl while reading it. I cant wait for her next one.

Slater really grows up

Redeeming Slater is a really well written and engaging story about Kylie and Slater. Slater Scott is the drummer in the band Rise Up and at the beginning of the previous book, Taming Nick, he finds out his fiancee is not faithful to him, thanks in no small part to Slater. In this book Slater is two years clean with no drugs, love or anything else other than life and enjoying performing. Slater and Kylie had been together before but she left without even saying goodbye. It was for his best that she left but also for her. Now it is two years later and she has ended up joining the band which puts her right smack in the Slater's path daily. There is not getting around things and Slater and Kylie are both going to have to come to terms with everything that happened and forgive. Slater and Kylie's story is very emotional and has a lot of heart to it. The characters are really well written with a lot of depth and the story-line is great.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

OMG WHAT A STORY. ITS JUST A FANTASTIC READ
OMG I WENT THROUGH EVERY EMOTION READING THIS BOOK. I LOVE THIS SERIES AND READING SLATERS STORY JUST MADE MY HEART SING. BUT THERES JUST SO MUCH PAIN IT WILL BREAK YOUR HEART. I WAS AN EMOTION WRECK READ ABOUT WHY KYLIE LEFT THE MAN SHE LOVED, AND READING SLATER BREAK AS HE DIDNT UNDERSTAND WHY AND HOW IT WENT SO WRONG. OMG JUST WRITING THIS IS MAKING ME EMOTIONAL.
I REALLY DONT WANT TO GIVE ANYTHING AWAY BUT I WILL TELL YOU TO GRAB AND CUPPA AND A BOX OF TISSUES BECAUSE 1 YOU WONT BE ABLE TO PUT THIS BOOK DOWN AND 2 YOU WILL SHED A TEAR FOR SLATER AND KYLIE.
AN OUTSTANDING READ. IT'S A FANTASTIC STORY I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS MORE THAN 5 STARS
SHANDI BOYES YOU JUST AMAZING ME WITH YOUR WRITING SKILLS. YOU REALLY DRAG ME IN TO YOUR STORIES, I FEEL LIKE I KNOW YOUR CHARACTERS AND I ALWAYS FEEL GUTTED WHEN I FINISH THE BOOK. BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM FOR YEARS AND YEARS TO COME.

I am finished with this book and I have enjoyed all of them so far (though none as much as the first one). This one was great, as well, and I definitely had tears in my eyes near the end, again.

Something I mentioned in a previous book that came immediately to mind in this one that I was confused on at first was Hawke was mentioned again. Immediately, my mind went to, "But who the heck is he?!!". I kept reading and determined he is security, but even so, that doesn't explain his place in these books.
I suspect that he is from another series and just lightly intertwines with this one, but the way it was done was confusing.

I am definitely going to seek out more books in this universe to keep going with things. I did read a "reading order" for her books, so I am cutting over to the Bound series next, then back over to this one.
I do enjoy this author quite a bit. I would definitely recommend her books to others, for sure.

ONE FABULOUS ADVENTURE!!!
Ah snap! Shandi nailed this bad boy perfectly and kept me riveted on a razors edge from start to finish. A spinning, twisting vortex of inadvertent happenstance catapults your swirling emotions into play fluidly. Jumping hoops, coping with the trials and tribulations keeping pace with a slew of plot twists and sharp turns blasts this piece of perfection bursting to life flawlessly. Speculation, drama, tension and intrigue set the tone for this mind blowing, block buster. The chemistry is intense, sizzling and palpable. The characters personalities are genuine and realistic with depth and qualities that are well blended and balanced. The scenes are 100% on point realism along with amazing scenarios that are so colorfully described its like you're living it with them instead of on the sidelines. Fabulous job Shandi, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.

Slater Scott is the drummer in the rock band Rise Up. Its been almost two years since rehab and time for Slater to take back control of his life, no drugs, no love, just the high from performing and all the adoring fans. He thought he had everything under control until she walks back into his life. Kylie nothing no goodbye nothing, just gone.
This second chance romance book can be read as a standalone book. It was such an emotional rollacoaster filled with plenty of heartache and betrayal rejection and drama. The characters are amazing and tortured innocent and guilty. There will be tears plenty of tears although such love and selfless devotion. Their sexual chemistry was intense their passion undeniably, but can the hurt ever be really forgiven.

Slater the bad boy drummer with the huge heart. We know from Nicks story how Slater had his heart broken before by an old flame.

In this instalment of the Rise Up guys stories we learn Slater finally fell in love again only to be shattered this time when the love of his life left him.  No warning, no goodbyes.
If not for a meddling friend determined to reunite them, we would never have learnt the horrific reason why Kylie left.
We follow their journey as they learn to get passed the heartache and reconnect but now with a cloud of worry since Slater knew Kylie left because she was sick and is terrified she will relapse.
This is a gripping read. It pulls you in and doesn't let go.
BYO tissues for this one.

So...my rating is actually a 3.5. I did like this book. It was a good story and I liked the characters and the story line. I don't really have anything specifically negative to say about this book. The reason my rating wasn't higher is simply because there wasn't anything special about it. It was a good story. I liked it. I just didn't love it. It was just like so many other stories with no real surprises, or anything to set it apart. It was a sweet, cute and slightly unrealistic story about a rock star who gets a second chance with the only girl he ever had any feelings for. He forgives her for breaking his heart and finds out she thought she was doing what was best for him by leaving him. It was sweet and it was a good story.

When Kylie left, Slater was at a loss he thought they had been everything together, they had met by accident and been inseparable from that moment until she was gone.
He sought solace in groupies and bottles trying to wipe her from his memory but no matter what he did she was always there front and centre, nothing could erase her beautiful face from his head.
Kylie has her reasons but she couldn’t tell him, she felt the pull he had over her but the pull to run was too strong.
There was ugly crying while I read this book. I so wanted things to work and the twists and turns that this brilliant author had taken me through had me doubting everything that happened and believing everything at the same time.

He never thought he would find anybody who he wanted to keep until he meet her after 6 months he thought they were solid until he woke up one day and she was gone she took his heart and he spiralled out of control drugs alcohol and women he was so angry and hurt but he never let anybody near his lips they were hers always then two years later after a concert and doing the fan signing her friend came up she had my drum sticks she said there not mine there my friends he was like we're is she she pointed my heart stopped and the anger was even stronger how dare she come and look like nothing ever happened that she hadn't destroyed me and taken my heart with her

What a great series although I wasn’t a big fan of this guy. This story is about Slater and Kylie. I loved Kylie’s character but Slater was a bit of a sex whore. He doesn’t realize just how much Kylie is in his corner til after the break. The story has it’s share of angst for sure. A roller coaster of emotions. Finally a friend pushes them back together. A terrific series. Filled with maybe a bit too much angst for me but lovely either way. When Slater finally got his head out, I really enjoyed him too. Definately a series not to be miss and an author I absolutely recommend,

This is the fourth book in the Perception series. This is Slater's story. The one perso that has let a lasting impression on Slater is Kylie. But she up and disappears and takes his heart with her. Now she back touring with him and his bandmates and he finds himself still attracted to her. But can he forgive her when she explains why she left? Kylie has her work cut out for her to win Slater's heart back and to gain his forgiveness. Can these two find their second chance at a HEA? What a great addition to the series. Enjoy!

What an absolutely amazing series I loved them all and this story wow it blew me away, it’s heart wrenching it made me cry but it also made me angry at Slater he was flaunting all of these women in front of Kylie but near the end he started to change my mind about him. It’s a second chance rockstar romance and my absolute favourite genre Kudos Shandi for a brilliant story/ series and I can’t wait to read whatever you bring out next. This is a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters were interesting. Kylie left Slater without saying goodbye. Two years later Kylie has come back to join the band. The two years that Kylie was away Slayter cleaned himself up. Kylie and Slater keep going back and forth trying to sort out their indifference. The emotional turmoil, I really thought I was going through menapores. There were twist and turns .

Busy rockstar romance. Very bad boy rocker. Pretty innocent country girl. Second chance romance.
But more. He’s lost a beloved sister and still grieves her every day. His first romance ended in infidelity (with a band mate!). So he’s a jaded rockstar cliche.
She’s light and bubbly and everyone loves her.
But she has a secret and it has her running out on him without a goodbye.
Her best friend in the world is instrumental in getting them face to face again.
Lots of tribulations but they become a couple again.
Health scare. Loss of her best friend.
This was incredibly uplifting.

This book was amazingly, wickedly divine with second chance romance spin. Redeeming Slater showed excellent character development growth and depth in this novel, as well as, continuation of previous characters in the series. Shandi Boyes kept me fully engaged in the story line and wanted to enrich myself as much as possible into it. These characters felt so real and the situations came across as something that could occur in real life. Well written and highly recommended!!

I'm crying here....

I just loved the way the story has me guessing, and it's the complete opposite. I didn't want to realize the sadness that hits me when u lose somebody extra special in ur life. But it worked.. Tears were sliding down my cheeks while sitting at a park while my son practices baseball with his team.. Great writing.. Now I'm almost caught up. Thanks for the emotional rollercoaster..

This one is a tear jerker.

Slater is the bad boy of Rise Up. Kylie was running scared. She tamed him, but not without a lot of blood sweat and tears. This is a rewrite, I love the Foundation and the ending. Wonderful Shandi. It's HOT but with Slater and Kylie, expected nothing less.

Interesting concept

Rises Up drummer, Slater, went into extreme depression when his girlfriend Rylie left him 2 years ago without a word as to why. He got into drugs, alcohol and groupies. The group had a Slater intervention and sent him into rehab. Now 2 years later he is clean, but, Kylie’s back. What will happen now.

Nerve wreaking, hot

Emotionally edgy when your in love with a rock star but realize you need to let him go. Friends can push you and not even letting you wallow in your pain. The journey between loving someone so much that you allow yourself to walk away can be the hardest thing you ever thought possible. This book delivers just that journey.

Squeezed Hearts All Around!

3.5 Stars - Slater and Kylie have quite the story. This one will make you shed a few tears. Their history is hard and over the progression of the story you understand why that is so. Slater is the drummer of Rise Up and Kylie broke his heart. When out of the blue she returns after two years his world takes a turn. He is pissed.
