Torahism: Are Christians Required to Keep the Law of Moses?

Rate this book
www.TorahismBook.com – Are Christians required to keep the Law of Moses? How about the Ten Commandments? Was Jesus divine? Join R. L. Solberg in his new book, TORAHISM, where he confronts a modern heresy and dives into these and other critical questions related to the Jewish roots of the Christian faith.

"It all began with a series of Facebook posts that an old friend posted just after Thanksgiving. He was aggressively taking Christians to task for celebrating the ‘pagan’ holiday of Christmas. This struck me as odd because I’d always known he and his wife to be strong Christians. And while I’ve debated with plenty of atheists over the alleged pagan roots of Christmas, I’d never heard this charge leveled by a fellow Christian. So I decided to chime in on his posts and soon discovered that I had stepped into a mystery of, well, biblical proportions...”

FROM THE FORWARD BY PAUL WILKINSON, Ph.D. — “The best conversations are those that happen spontaneously amongst sincere, passionate seekers wanting to learn, mature, and progress in their faith and life. R. L. Solberg has blessed us by inviting us into just such a conversation . . . This book is a read that flows because it originates in genuine conversations between friends and passionate believers. It is reminiscent of the ancient dialogues with questions, points, and counterpoints.

But be sure to catch this Solberg’s work is not about how to do the least work for the most grace, nor is it about how to avoid obligations, duties, and work. No, much more than that, Solberg’s question is about how we who claim to be children of God best glorify, worship, and obey him . . . Solberg wants to know what it means to be “godly” and “righteous” in light of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

I invite you into Rob and his friends’ conversation. I was challenged, encouraged, and taught by the insights he brings to the fore. I pray that you heed his call to take seriously what it means for the Christian to live the godly life; to be like Jesus."

I liked Torahism quite a bit. A couple years ago, I began to see friends posting about following the Torah and it made a lot of sense to me. I’ll be honest though, I did not know much of the Bible.
After diving into Torah, it just felt off. I didn’t feel peaceful being under the law at all, and I could not, and did not want to, keep the law.
One theme I was beginning to notice in a few groups though, was that some people were arguing about whether Jesus was actually God, and whether he should even be worshipped. A few people called Paul a heretic. I finally pulled out my bible and read through the New Testament. It really solidified my belief in Christianity but I really didn’t have a lot of answer when it came to discussing this with Torah followers.
This book is a great resource! The writer did a good job with gathering up some of the main arguments of Torah followers, and had good answers for why they are off.
Recommend! It is written clearly and is an easy read. I finished it in a couple days.

I cannot recommend this book enough! It is loving, respectful and clear in its refute of Torah keeping as a required way of living as a follower of Jesus. After hearing “Torah-ist” ideas and interpretations from both a close friend and then a family member, I was compelled to weigh their newfound beliefs. After years of it just not feeling right in my spirit, God moved to close the door on these false ideas through His word and Solberg’s teaching. I now had the scripture and articulation of what I knew in my heart from the beginning. Thank you for pursuing this text. God is using it to point to Him.

A phenomenal resource for anyone working through the beliefs of The Hebrew Roots movement, Torah-Observant Christianity, or what the author, R.L. Solberg, helpfully labels with the umbrella term ‘Torahism.’ Whether you yourself or someone you know has accepted the theology of Torahism, Solberg presents a thorough, systematic, and scripturally grounded counter to the claims commonly put forward by these movements. What’s more, he does all of this in the spirit of Romans 14; from a place of love for brothers and sisters in Christ who have unnecessarily obligated themselves to following the Law of Moses and think others should too. Solberg addresses key topics such as the Sabbath, Feast Days, Kosher eating, Jesus’ divinity, questions in church history, and more. Every topic and claim that I have encountered in my own experience with Torah-Observant Christians is addressed in this book in depth, with logic and scripture. If you are associated with this belief system, I ask that you put those beliefs to the test. Solberg will walk you through scripture to see if Christians are required to keep the Law of Moses or not.

Torahism is a very easy, and enjoyable read.
My criticism put simply is the author ‘throws the baby out with the bath water’ as it were. The Westminster Divines, Puritans, Scottish & Reformed Presbyterian’s would all differ with the authors conclusions regarding the law in the life of the believer, and society.

Solberg's volume is not only needed in our climate of the growing Hebrew Roots movement but exceptional in covering all the essential ground. You may not agree with everything, but you'll find all the major talking points thoroughly addresseed. Honestly from what I can tell it is the only work of its kind and the go-to on the topic.

Absolutely excellent analysis of the problem of legalism in Christianity! I've been looking for a book like this for a long time with answers to the main objections of Adventists and others, and this book also presents a great overall picture of what Christianity's attitude toward the Old Testament should be.

If you or a loved one find themselves focusing more and more on the Old Testament, this book does a great job of explaining the general beliefs of those who follow Torahism, discusses what Torahist leaders use as justification for their beliefs and gives scriptural evidence to disprove the justifications. It is written with grace and respect.

Great book

Great summary of Torahism. Well presented and ultimately persuasive and loving. You can tell the author truly loves the Body of Christ and is striving to protect the peace and purity of the church.

I am so thankful for Rob, his ministry, and his dedication to the truth. I struggled for years with arguments presented by ‘Torahists.’ By God’s grace, I never officially stepped down that path but some of the arguments stumped me. Rob examines a lot of these arguments in this book and lays out the truth of Scripture in a scholarly way that is easy to understand. Where the spirit of Christ is, there is freedom. And that is the message of this book.
