The investigation into a serious motorway accident in Oxfordshire reveals much more than the police bargain for.
A woman’s body is found in a clapped out campervan. Her wounds indicate she died elsewhere. The other occupants have long since fled the scene.
DI Tanya Miller leads the man-hunt. But the fugitives, two men from a wealthy Birmingham family, continue to escape their grasp.
When the post-mortem reveals an unlawful killing, and strange bite marks on the woman’s skin, the attempt to find the men becomes a priority.
The men themselves will stop at nothing to prevent being caught. But what exactly are they escaping from? And if DI Miller catches them, will the case be solved?
DI Tanya Miller continues to fascinate me as does this expertly written police crime drama. Brazen Escape is book #4 in the Tanya Miller series and this time, Miller is on the hunt for those responsible for the murder of a young woman with some startling injuries. Without giving too much away, I can say that this book has all the ingredients to create a fascinating crime drama including a twisty plot and some despicable characters. If you love crime, it’s well worth jumping into this series as you won’t be disappointed.
This is a riveting tale of mystery and intrigue that I enjoyed very much indeed. Tanya Miller is put to the pin of her collar to round up this bad lot, and makes a few mistakes along the way. The characters are compelling and totally realistic, and the story keeps you turning the pages till you reach the surprising conclusion. Would definitely recommend.
I liked how this story started. Two brothers were taking the body of a young woman to be incinerated. They were involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the motorway and abandoned their van. The young woman has been stabbed to death. This starts a police chase to catch the brothers. The van is traced back to the bother’s family and a series of lies follow. At this stage anyone in the family could have killed the girl and for different reasons. DI Tanya Miller is under pressure to solve the case and when there is a conclusion; she is not convinced. Something niggles her and she decides to take some off the record action, which inevitable results both in tragedy and with the apprehension of the culprit. What struck me when reading this was the extent the family went to cover up the murder, hoping it would just disappear with no questions asked. There were a few of the family who may have been responsible, and the conclusion was not as I expected, but feasible. My attention was held throughout and I also found the brothers’ antics on the run very comical at times. I would recommend this as a quick read. A police crime drama with all the investigative frustrations that a reader can become involved in.
Detective Inspector Tanya Miller catches a case when remains are found at the scene of a horrific traffic pile-up, except the victim did not die from a traffic-related injury. Unraveling the whys and wherefores made this a compelling, read-straight-through experience for me.
I do wish DI Miller took less risks with her personal safety and financial stability, though.
A novel written by someone in their maturity as a novelist. This writer knows what she is doing. This is well paced and intriguing throughout. The relationships in the Bukhari family are thoroughlyl explored and ring true. The tightrope that the detective walks on with the case, her colleagues, and the police department are believable and nicely drawn. I was never sure who the murderer was till the end. I thought I had guessed it but no, not quite. Clever stuff, Diane. Well done. A read I can recommend.
Do Tanya Miller has had a tough week, then had hoped to have a relaxing weekend. Just back on the job she then hears on Monday of a bad accident on the M40. Glad that traffic have to deal with it she has just pulled 8nto her drive when her phone rings asking her to attend a mysterious death. The caller gives her a GPS location which from the earlier crash news seems to be at the crash location. How can a motorway pile up be a mysterious death. What follows is unfortunately typical Tanya, instinctive policewoman that she is sometimes her instinct runs away with her. This case brings a number of instincts to the fore before she actually solves the mysterious death. Well written and definitely a great crime thriller.
Once again DI Tanya Miller solves a complicated murder investigation with the help of her dedicated “ wingman” Kate. The interwoven glimpses of an immigrant culture was interesting although the characters were a wee bit flat. Was satisfied with the direction the story took the “ unsportsmanlike “ Paul. Was also intrigued by the cliffhanger aspect of the ending. I am happy to have discovered this series. ps glad to be kept abreast of Charlie and his family in Liverpool. Looking forward to seeing Kate develop further in her responsibility with the team.
I didn't actually believe the ending. And I thought Tanya was pretty messed up in her behavior and thinking throughout the whole investigation -- jealousy and ego outstanding. And, excuse me, she went by herself to question a potential suspect? Give me a break.
A great story with plenty of action and lots of twists and turns. Good characters mix of characters. First book that I have read by Diane but I will be reading more.
