I read all three books of the Tanya Miller series while on holiday, and I very much hope there will be more. Really, someone pick this up and make it a TV series. It's the perfect mix of thrill and dry humor, emotional without drifting into cheesy, and an interesting cast of characters who you can't help wanting to spend more time with.

We’re new to both author Dickson and her plucky Brit detective Tanya Miller; “Brutal” is third in a currently four-book set. Apparently Tanya underwent some dangerous and injurious events in the first two novels, of which we almost wish we knew more details. A couple of dead bodies found near a golf course, difficult to identify as one had no head and another had nothing but a head, launches a fairly involved plot. Eventually both victims are identified and the killers, part of an immigrant trafficking scheme, are captured in a rather suspenseful tale that to our analysis ended both a little too conveniently and rather abruptly. Office politics, with a newly promoted male detective equal in rank to Tanya, added to the complexity of the investigation as the new guy tries to horn in on every aspect of the case. But it takes Tanya and her loyal followers to piece together all the loose ends.
So – a decent enough police procedural to seek out the rest of the series.

An emotionally harrowing book.
Brutal Pursuit really got under my skin with its portrayal of a young immigrant girl in a desperate situation. There is tangible emotion and horror as we see the world from her point of view. She struggles to navigate a country she does not understand.
This is coupled with a murder. The two plots dovetail together beautifully. I spend much of my time attempting to work out how the two would interact.
All the characters in the book are vividly written and portrayed. The main detective meets a variety of people who deal with the horror of murder in different ways.
Highly recommended.

I’ve read all three DI Tanya Miller murder mysteries and I’m never disappointed. This time Miller is working on a case which involves dismembered bodies and a young immigrant in a desperate situation.
Brutal Pursuit is a beautifully written mystery and a captivating read with plenty of twists and surprises. I particularly like DI Miller; a strong woman but not without her flaws. And, I can certainly identify with her weakness for online shopping.
Without giving too much away, it’s a story that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading. Highly recommend!

"Only one gripe"
All the elements were there for this to be a 5* crackerjack of a book. A grisly find for two poor souls in a shed at the side of a golf course. Another body turns up within hours. The body count rises and a foreign girl escapes the clutches of her gang masters. This was well-written and engaging. The supporting cast from previous books in the series are solid and dependable. What went wrong? Tanya Miller spent half of this book fretting over a new DI, Brian Finch. OK, he sounds like a real pain, but the coverage of Tanya's reaction to his appointment and behaviour overshadowed everything. As a result, I felt the ending was rushed. That was a shame as it started with such great promise.

The dogged pursuit of the murderers of unknown persons who are belatedly identified as foreign workers in the country illegally. For D I Milleŕ this is a horror of a case. Not only are bodies found with parts wlready cut off but even then other subsequent findings are not from the same bodies. A new D I, recently promoted, becomes another problem for Tanya as he is well acquainted with very senior police officers and uses his contacts to belittle and thwart her efforts at every opportunity. I really enjoyed this book. A multi-dimensional plot, very well told, while the protagonist gets into all sorts of bother both from her own colleagues and from the criminal fraternity.
A headless body is discovered dumped in a hut on a posh golf course. Who is he and how did he get there? Clues are scarce, and Tanya Miller is under pressure from an up and coming colleague who is well connected. When more corpses come to light, the pressure mounts - but thankfully Miller is up to the task.
You'll find it hard not to read this through to the very end - where more surprises lie in wait!

Excellent!
DI Tanya Miller is glad to be assigned her first case since returning to duty after an injury. It’s a gruesome murder without much to go on. Dealing with personal issues at home and politics at headquarters adds to the challenge. Lots of twists and obstacles!

Great Plot, Great Action, Great Characters!
From page one, Dickson grabs readers' attention and doesn't let up until the ending when all mysteries and karma come together! Very enjoyable and entertaining read!

I really enjoyed this. It's the third in the series but I read it as a standalone novel without feeling like I'd missed too much. It's a typical crime murder mystery. The heroine, a detective, is tough but no angel and most of the characters have their flaws. It's well paced so doesn't drag and, although there are hints at prequels and sequels, this crime has all its loose ends tied up neatly by the end. Definitely going to earmark this series as one to keep on the radar once I've made more of a dent in my TBR pile.

Quick read, kept my interest. DI Tanya Miller catches a case with a headless/handless body in a shed on a golf course, then a bag with more body parts than needed (but not the head), As her team scrambles to identify the bodies, a newly promoted DI "joins" the team - and what an arrogant one he is. The team is split in half when a woman's body is found that doesn't appear to be related, but the new DI, who "has connections, wants to take charge of all. Realistic characters with a good plot line will always win the day!

Once again Dickson provides an interesting and suspenseful journey with DCI Miller. Every one I read peels another layer of insight into Miller’s personality. I look forward to increasing glimpses of her ability to take risks and allow relationships to unfold . I hope that she does not lose her fierce independence and commitment to her female colleagues. I am also interested to see her develop strong relationships with the males without sacrificing her independence.

Diane M. Dickson is a good writer, and the series is great.
Characters are well written and have ongoing development, through each book you get to know them and appreciate or dislike them based on their actions, reactions, not just from the main characters point of view.
Interesting and well written this book explores the horror of a young immigrant, murder and mutilation and throws in a new antagonist that i just loved to hate.

Interesting a sure to be brilliant DCI full of insecurities and showing a bit of prejudices for the new, male, good looking, self assured DCI she has to work with. The murders are solved and all is well. Bosnians illegal workers, mistreated and discarded. I’ll be looking for another book with these actors!

Very formulaic: spunky female cop, outwardly cool but struggling with personal issues: bog-standard sympathetic gay cop; arrogant foil to the protagonist, whom she bests but from which besting she gets no satisfaction; cardboard cutout witnesses, bad guys, and victims. Ho-hum, nothing to see here, folks. Move on.

POOR DI TANYA MILLER JUST COULDN’T SEEM TO CATCH A BREAK IN ANY OF HER CASES.I WAS AT ABOUT 89% AMD EVERYTHING JUST WENT TO HELL, I WONDERED WAS SHE EVER GOOING TO SOLVE THIS. SHE WAS ALSO HAVING TROUBLE IN HER PERSONAL LIFE, ALL HER CASES GOING DEAD, I RECKONED MAYBE THIS WAS IT FOR DI MILLER. GEEZ! ;D

A great read by a fine author, the story does not disappoint. The bodies when found were headless and handless. Fortunately, the head of the woman was found and the police sketch artist's facial reconstruction drawing draws out an identification and ultimately, the killer is discovered. The ending was powerful.

Captivating
Not sure what drove me to order Diana's book, most probably a British cop story, but certainly glad I did, an enthralling tale, highly captivating and kept me reading until the small hours, will certainly be looking footnote from her.

An excellent book to read
I really enjoyed reading this story and thought the characters were nicely developed and believable. The story line was great and the mystery was captivating. And a great ending!

This is a good police procedural and will please any fan of the genre. However, I found the main characters hard to like and didn't particularly enjoy the book as a result. Others will think differently.

Run of the mill 'Troubled Detective' novel
Readable but nothing special.
Predictable plot, forgettable characters.
No excitement or suspense. The author however did appear to have a small amount of knowledge of police procedures.
