Dany’s father made a promise to celebrate his birthday. Everyone thought it was a joke since the fighting has intensified. Houses were attacked and burnt. Youth in the community are involved in criminal activities and drug trafficking. These events dampened the thought of his birthday celebration.
Suddenly, a group of armed men crashed through the door to their home, grabbing his mother and sister. His father tried to intervened and was knocked to the ground by one of the armed men. Screams from his mother and sister enraged his father. He tried again to free his wife and daughter and was shot. His elder brother became enraged, dived on one the men, and was also shot. Dany could hear the screams from his mother and sister echoing in his ears, and passed out.

The neighbors took him to a refugee camp for food and shelter. He joined the camp school. The families in the camp didn’t like him. They were scared of him and chased him away.
He started going to church every Sunday where no one chased his away. He began questioning himself about the people coming to church. He questioned “If God can bring back his family?”
Things improved and the rebels changed tactics to suicide bombing. One morning two girls entered the camp, their dresses torn and twisted, and lips cracked and dry. The nurse took them in for consultation. Suddenly, a deafening blast was hear which shook the ground. The dispensary was on fire. The fires expert came, investigated, and determined the two girls were suicide bombers. Dany decided he had to leave the camp, and one night he left in search of his mother and sister.

He had an accident one day when he was hit by a car while running from the police. He was taken to the emergency room, and registered for social welfare to take care of him. He saw all types of traumatized cases. He started to regret the wrong things he had done. He started thinking of God, and was afraid because he had turned against Him.
He thought he was going to prison and asked the nurse “What will happen to me?” “Don’t worry they will take care of you.” She responded while smiling. “Where are your parents?” She asked. He could not answer based on his emotion. “At the orphanage, you’ll make new friend and you’ll have a new family.” She commented.
Dany had no desire to have a new family. He slipped away without anyone noticing and went back in the streets. Wondering the streets, he entered a railway station, and started picking up trash and cleaned the chairs. An old man came over wearing a security shirt and told him to stop.
“Youngman what are you doing and who are you?” The old man asked in a demeaning manner. “I am Dany and I am looking for a job to have something to eat, please help me.” He said. “My child come with me.” The old man responded. He identified himself as Uncle Sam, took him to his residence, and gave him some food and water. He looked at Uncle Sam as his savior.

People started staring, he became scared, and looked for a place to hide, ate some food from the trash, and climbed a tree to evade the police. He saw two boys entering a building, and climbed down from the tree and entered the building.
“Who are you and what do you want?” A voice asked. His heart leaped and his legs trembled. “I have nowhere to go and nowhere to sleep, please help me, I am ready to work.” He replied.

She took her daughter up North and asked her boss to help her with her daughter’s operation and was banished. "Get out of here. This is not a bank or an orphanage. I have no pennies for you and I don’t need your service anymore. Move out here, nonsense.” Boyin, a maid, and close friend commented “Certainly being rich is equal to being heartless. Her employer became disgusted and told her some nasty words, and for her to go back to work. She had enough and told fashionista “You are a witch with a stone at the place of your heart. You call yourself a mother? Let me tell you, you are a shame to humanity because you don’t deserve to be called a mother. What a truly incredible, emotional, and sometimes pitiful story. Pitiful in the sense of how one human can treat another and this young man has experienced his fair share of prejudice from those who should know better. The story is one of determination, of courage and of empathy. From the tender age of seven, his world fell apart, when his father and brother were shot by the rebels in war torn Africa. Many years later, still searching for Hope, the author starts to plant trees and nurture them, so they become his family. This man, who has seen the true depths of human depravity, shines through with his remarkable story. His lasting message is, ‘Mother is a person who was not created in fear but in courage in determination. Thanks to all mothers of the world.’ I praise your mother and I applaud you. A shining star that has emerged from the storm.
Have you ever read a book and wanted to rename it when you finish it. This was one of those books for me. When I first started reading I didn’t think I was going to be able to relate to it because the writer is African and the main place in the book was Africa. I was wrong. I felt all the pain and sadness of the main character.
