Grief counselor June Cerza Kolf is repeatedly asked for specific guidance in helping suicide survivors function and heal. Their grief is unique in that the trauma of suicide leaves them in such a devastated state that the typical coping mechanisms no longer work. With deep sensitivity, Kolf leads readers through mourning to acceptance. She helps them realize the tragedy was out of their control, release their guilt and anger, and gain the power of prayer. Standing in the Shadow covers the heart of thirty-four topics, including depression, forgiveness, and the salvation of those who commit suicide. The gentle, honest writing provides answers, hope, and comfort for the bereaved.
Superb read about self-care during the experience of losing a loved one to suicide written by a knowledgeable Grief Counselor who is also a veteran of hospice work. This small book suggests deliberate, self-initiated actions when life seems to have (suddenly or otherwise) spun out of control. The advice is gentle, thoughtful and understanding of both the large and small during an experience of this nature. Helpful for anyone dealing with any type of loss of a loved one. Highly Recommend.
This book was helpful after losing my husband to suicide, caused bt a prescription drug that caused psychosis. My heart is broken, but at least this book helped a bit. Would have been better without the god speak.
