This is book two of the Magic Guardians Academy and joins the main character Zoey after she has survived her first semester at the school. She has lost someone she loves and almost lost one of her three companions during the attack by a group of dark mages. But he may not have come out of the situation completely unscathed. She still has many questions especially about her parent’s deaths and why her magic is so out of control. Why the dark mages want to take either her or to steal her magic, is still unclear. Zoey’s own actions against a bully at her old school seem to have led the dark mages towards her and her mother, placing them and everyone else she comes into contact with, into danger. She still hasn’t learnt any semblance of tight control over her magic and while she considers herself a pretty good person overall, there is a touch of darkness within her. But that shouldn’t make her a bad person, everyone has to balance good and bad on a daily basis. So why is her control so important and why are dark mages after her?

Her three good looking companions Jasper, Reed and Kento, are still with her and her feelings towards all three of them are getting more intense. She has kissed both Jasper and Reed so far, but Kento has held back a bit. She is dismayed to learn that most of her new classes are with students far younger than herself. Mainly due to the fact she is at the beginning of her magical education like them and needs to even catch up on everything they already know and have been trained in. Zoey gets to meet baby dragons for the first time, but it ends badly, especially for Megan, who she is still bonded with. Then she gets a bit of light relief, when her class go out to search for their first ever wand and she manages to do this properly and is chosen by a tree to take a branch for her own wand. Worryingly during this time, is the disappearance of Jasper, he is absent from his friends and her as well, and seems to be acting differently. He is not himself at all!

She does however find out about her true mother and what happened to her and her birth father. It is shocking news and leaves her wondering if she is more like her real mother than she wants to be. She is hearing voices at times, which are trying to encourage her to join the dark mages and to bend the rules about using her magic, to gain more power and to not worry about the distinction between dark or light magic use. One thing the dark mages have said, is that they are after her magic, the magic that created her and once she hears about her real mother, this begins to make some sense, but is also very worrying at the same time. Another battle with the group of dark mages is brewing and Zoey doesn’t know if she can keep her three companions and Megan safe, with her control still so lacking. The adventures will continue as Zoey and company have to continue teaching her to learn to balance light and dark magic, as she finds out more about her past.

Another good read in this series, with plenty of magic and a real point of the fight between light and dark within all of us. The romance continues at a simple pace, so even though it is advertised as a reverse harem tale, nothing is too heavy handed, so suitable for all ages. I loved the class about wands and how to search for a tree that reaches out for you in some way that talks to you as such. That the work you put into making your own wand, will be rewarded by a wand that will work so much better with your magic, because of the effort you put into it. A bit like how life is all about what you choose to do and what you do about everything you have to face day by day. If you do nothing, then you get nothing back. A great life story in there for following the right path in life! I look forward to reading the next book in the series, as the battle against evil continues. Now the last

The next one is the last on this mini-series, so looking forward to it and also to enjoying that book. I believe that these books follow a well trodden format in that a girl with ridiculous amounts of excess powers in Witchcraft learns her true calling and finds she needs three/4/5 hot boys to help her control them. Then good things and bad things happen. However I know you will enjoy all the twists and turns of the story.

Exciting
“Arcane Studies” is the second book in the “Magical Guardian Academy” series and is everything you hope it would be. Zoe is still embroiled in her wayward magic, mysteries, complicated relationships, and complicated school issues. This is a must to understand the series and to stay up-to-date on Zoe.

Please please use spellcheck and proofread before publishing.

Decent enough book but could seriously do with proofreading and spellchecking!

This is the second book in the series and has even more silly spelling and grammatical errors than the first book, I dread to think how many book three is going to have.

Enjoyed!

I loved the mixture of suspense, magic, and an untested heroine who understands that she needs to step up her game in order to survive. The support of her friends keeps her going through the trials.

Zoey and her guys are back and in school with Zoey trying to learn to control her powers. There was action, suspense, mystery and magic that kept me reading and entertained. I sometimes laughed and groaned at Zoey but I had to see how it would end and what craziness would happen this time.
