Dead Heat: A Hollow Dead Novel

The quiet Ozark town of Hollow Springs, Arkansas is shocked by the gruesome deaths of a local family. Responding Deputy Matt Conner can’t explain what he encountered at the scene. Only twelve-year-old Gracie Roberts, the family’s sole survivor, knows what happened in that house, and her story is unbelievable…until the infection spreads. When the town is overrun by the undead, Matt, Gracie, and a small group of other survivors huddle together in a small cabin in the middle of nowhere. Cut off from the world, surrounded by the dead, and fighting for survival, they wait to see if help will make it in time.

I was born and raised in a small Arkansas town in a creepy house way out in the country where things always went bump in the night. My grandparents were Ozark mountain folk. As a kid, I loved listening to them tell the old mountain stories.

I’m an extreme introvert, and I think the zombie apocalypse would probably be much simpler and less stressful than modern life. So, when life becomes too much, I imagine zombies eating the people who are stressing me out. Seems to work.

I’ve created dozens of worlds in my head though the years. Occasionally, I’ve even told people about one of those worlds. I’ve lost count of how many times someone has said, “Hey, you should write that down.” So, I finally did.

When I’m not writing, I enjoy picking up useless facts and studying foreign languages I’ll probably never use. My other hobbies include gardening, cooking, and hiding in my room.

I still live in Arkansas with my ever-patient and supportive husband, John. We share our home with four wild Siberian huskies and a cranky shih tzu.

Arkansas is no longer safe y’all!!! Fast paced, fun characters and local atmosphere! I can’t wait for the next book! Walking Dead fans must read!

“She locked eyes with him and growled. There was something wrong about the whole situation. Unnatural. That was the word that kept echoing in his mind.”

“He hated the summer. He hated the heat and the bugs. Damned mosquitoes were everywhere. You almost needed a transfusion after a day outside. He hated mowing, and there was no avoiding that around here unless you wanted a yard full of copperheads. He hated snakes, too, for that matter. Everything about summer sucked, and Arkansas summers lasted about three quarters of the year.”
