Rate this book
Teddi Baker used to believe in happily ever after. It’s why she became a wedding planner and worked so hard to make her business, Hopelessly Romantic, successful. When bride-to-be Kelly Scott walks in, Teddi is ready. Until she comes face-to-face with Kelly’s sister: Leah Scott, her ex-wife’s divorce attorney. The one who helped ruin her life.
Leah Scott wears her heart on her sleeve, an odd characteristic for a divorce attorney. When her father left her stay-at-home mom with barely enough money to survive, she recognized her calling. But Leah still believes in happiness and no one deserves it more than her sister. If only Kelly didn’t insist on using a wedding planner who hates Leah’s guts...despite the unexpected and wholly unwanted chemistry between them.

3.50 Stars. This was a perfectly nice romance, but I didn't connect to it like I had hoped. I do first want to say that I am an outlier here. All the early reviews have been wonderful 4 and 5 stars. I honestly think I’m the only one out there that wasn’t crazy about this so please check out other reviews to make up your mind if this book might for you. I will say that the last quarter of the book was much better for me. I wished I liked the rest of the book as much, but the ending is why I’m giving this book 3.50 stars instead of just the 3 stars I was originally leaning towards.

Georgia Beers always writes well so that was not an issue here. I’m a big fan of hers and have read around 16 of her books (and I hope to read them all eventually). And while I didn’t love this story, this was a nice and at times sweet romance. I can absolutely see why lots of readers really enjoyed this, but that doesn’t guarantee my same level of enjoyment. As I said before the writing was good, what I more had issues with was some of Beers’ story choices and also the pace of this book.

For starters, I loved the premise of this book. Beers did a live Zoom reading recently, about the second meet cute, and I was totally hooked. The premise is about a divorce attorney who believes in HEA’s and a Wedding Planner who doesn’t. But not only that because these two have baggage that puts them at odds with each other. From the reading and the blurb, I thought this was going to be an enemies to lovers story. I’m a big fan of enemies to lovers so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, this book is really not that trope and the one character forgives the other super-fast. There is nothing wrong with this choice; I was just expecting something else so it was a disappointment.

Another issue I had was just really crazy bad timing. I had just yesterday finished a book where one of the mains LOVES rom-coms and the characters even act out some of the famous scenes. Guess what this book had, a main character that LOVES rom-coms and the character even act out some famous lines from the movies. I did not realize this going in and it was not planned to read these books back to back. If anything it took some of the romantic magic out of this book, especially because I think the other book tackled the rom-com aspect better. It was just bad timing luck that this happened like this. I have to wonder had I not read the other book first, would I have liked this more.

My last issue had a bit to do about the pace and conflict. I felt like the pace of this book was slower than I would have liked. And, I have to be completely honest but I found that I was a bit bored. The characters got over their initial issue with each other so early that there was no conflict left to keep driving the story forward. Yes, there was some cute scenes watching rom coms together but see the paragraph above why this didn’t work for me. I found the romance to be cute, and I liked the characters, but there was nothing that wowed me or that was forcing me to keep reading and turning the pages.

I did mention that the last quarter of the book got better and I was happy that it did. Now, I have to say that I did not like that the big angst/conflict moment was almost at the 90% mark. I wish WLW authors would stop doing that. It is too late in the story so that the ending normally has a rushed feeling so that the HEA does not feel believable. If we could just keep that moment to the 70-80% mark at the latest, my HEA loving heart would be so much happier. Anyway, while I was mad that the conflict came so damn late in this book, I was just happy to have some conflict again. Finally, something is happening that held my attention. And surprisingly, I actually thought the ending was a super sweet HEA ending, that didn’t feel too rushed. So while I sincerely hope Beers stops having the finale conflict so late in the story, I’m giving her a pass on this one since the ending was so good.

I feel a bit in the middle with this one. I think it is a slightly above average read, but I clearly had some issues. Like I already mentioned, I seem to be the only one on this Earth that didn’t love this, so please take that in consideration while reading this review. I expect many romance fans to also enjoy this read, it just wasn’t what I was hoping for.

I loved this fluffy love story. The Hopeless Romantic title may refer to Leah Scott, sister of the bride , divorce lawyer and closet romance movie addict but it also brought out the hopeless romantic in me. I’m rarely a fan of instant attraction but wow, Beers captures the connection and sparks between Teddi the wedding planner and Leah from the moment they meet. It’s only a matter of time before the anger Teddi feels towards Leah will soften because…. hello, super attraction. While the attraction is instant this turns out to be a slow burn romance. Teddi's been burned before and is reluctant to trust her heart. Leah's never been lucky in love and wonders if Teddi could finally be her one and only.

The extended group of best friends act as sounding boards when things get hard. They add the background and depth needed to flesh out the details on the main characters. I fully embraced Teddi’s doubts and concerns in the later stages of the book having seen the same scenario play out in real life and appreciated the way the author handled the emotions and fears of both women.

The ending was maybe Hallmark overkill for this reader but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the ride to romancelandia. Well done Georgia Beers.

4.5 stars rounded up because this book gave me the happy squees.

4 Stars for Georgia Beer’s romance, Hopeless Romantic

I really enjoyed Beer’s latest novel that is an insta-attraction but a slow burn romance. Teddi Baker is a sought after wedding planner. At one point her business had three store fronts but after an ugly divorce, she had to sell 2 of her stores to pay half of her assets to her ex-wife.

Leah Scott is a successful divorce attorney. Since her mother’s divorce, Leah looked after her younger sister, Kelly. She was gladly footing the bill for Kelly’s wedding, even agreeing to have Teddi plan her wedding. Teddi who barely is able to hide her disdain for Leah when she realizes that Leah was her ex-wife’s divorce lawyer.

I really liked both couple’s support systems. Teddi has her best friend and right hand man, Preston and photographer Harlow. Leah has her sister Kelly and BFFs Tilly and Jo. They understood both the mains and pushed and/or supported when needed. Its interesting that Leah and Kelly’s mother shows up here and there but we never really get to know her. Just that her divorce left her penniless which in turn motivated much of Leah’s life.

I liked both characters but really was able to relate to Leah’s love for Rom-Com movies. I watched all the ones mentioned in this story more than once, maybe more than a couple. OK, countless times. Who would of guessed that the “Hopeless Romantic” was Leah, a divorce lawyer and not the wedding planner, Teddi? Leah regularly goes to a local movie theater that shows classic movies and after the movie she would often stop at the coffee shop next door. It was at the coffee shop that she runs into Teddi. Teddi, who offers her a seat in the crowded coffee shop. And so begins a pleasant Beers slow burn romance. Except I kept waiting for the Uh, Oh. Moment. You know where something happens to break up the couple? I wasn’t disappointed nor was I disappointed with the HEA ending.

Review of ‘Hopeless Romantic’ by Georgia Beers, audiobook narrated by Lori Prince

As any reader can tell you that they have their favorite authors, any audiobook listener has preferred narrators. Now, when you have a lesbian rom-com audiobook like ‘Hopeless Romantic’ that combines both, it’s a day in lesfic paradise. I will listen to anything that has the Beers/Prince combination on the label. Once again, I wasn’t disappointed.

Teddi Baker used to believe in happily ever afters until a bitter divorce left her with a broken heart and a third of her successful wedding planning business. Leah Scott is a staunch believer in love, something at odds with her profession of a divorce lawyer. She’s just waiting for the right woman to appear and when she meets her sister’s wedding planner, Leah cannot stop thinking about her. But Leah was Teddi’s ex-wife divorce attorney and despite their mutual attraction, Leah is adamant to keep her distance…

This is a lighthearted, fun, and charming enemies to lovers romance. It’s no news that Ms. Beers excels at writing rom-coms like this one though she can also write compelling angsty books. She’s in her element here, fleshing out likable characters with strong chemistry between them. ‘Hopeless Romantic’ is an homage to the great variety of romantic comedies that helped to shape the genre and all its main elements are present here including a fairy tale ending.

But that’s not all, as there’s also space for a serious insight about relationships, marriage, and divorce. I suspect that Ms. Beers gives a piece of her mind in the characters’ musings about these issues but it doesn’t feel preachy or didactic and it’s balanced well with the rest of the story. If you like your books with a slice of food for thought, then this one is for you.

I’ll never tire to say that Lori Prince is a great match to narrate Ms. Beers’s books and this is no exception. Her lighthearted tone is tailor-made for this story, her combination of deadpan and comical deliveries is a mark of her style that works perfectly here. All her voices are distinctive and consistent with their personalities. Her performance of the emotional moments is also top-notch. Highly recommended to all lovers of rom-coms. 5 stars.

Teddi plans weddings even though her own marriage dissolved terribly. One of her clients brings her irresistible sister, Leah, along with her. There is definitely a spark there between Teddi and Leah. However, Leah's job as a divorce lawyer brings all to many painful memories for Teddi.

This book reminded me of a romantic comedy. Even the super extravagant and cheesy ending. But we all love these movies, right? I really enjoyed all of the cute scenes where Teddi and Leah interacted. I particularly liked a New Years Eve party that Leah is forced to go to where she discovers that Teddi is also there and they are drawn to one another.

A good dose of angst was served as the two struggle over differing outlooks on life. It felt realistic and true to the characters experiences. I appreciate that type of integrity to character and development.

Overall, you can't go wrong with this Georgia Beers romance. A love story that makes you work for it.

I recommend this to people who love to read about romance, jaded characters, weddings, lawyers, divorce, and hopeless romantics.

Reading Hopeless Romantic gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings... and I just loved it; the setting of the story, the slow-burn romance, MC wedding planner Teddi and divorce attorney Leah, supporting characters (none that I dislike), the Rom-Com movies mentioned which were so my era...they don’t make romcom like how it was done back then now...Sigh

4.5 star read for me. A lovely read and one which I thoroughly enjoyed 😊

This is the epitome of opposites-attract romance with conflictive characters. And I don't just mean that they are different. Their individual existences are also ironically contradictory.

Teddi Baker owns the wedding planning company Hopeless Romantic and dedicates her career to happy weddings for clients. But she is divorced and doesn't believe in her own happily ever after anymore. When Kelly Scott comes in as a potential customer, Teddi cannot take her eyes off her older sister, Leah. Ever the dichotomy, Leah loves rom-coms, whole-heartedly believes in happily-ever-afters, dreams about having a wedding of her own, but is also a divorce attorney. She has seen more failed relationships than anyone should have probably ever seen. Unfortunately, one of those was Teddi's divorce as Leah had represented her ex. Just how incompatible or compatible are they?

I love the incongruities of Teddi and Leah. Teddi devotes herself to her work that revolves around romance, but she avoids her own HEA. Leah is a divorce attorney, but that doesn't sway her beliefs in HEAs. For most of the story, Teddi and Leah have a great relationship, both opening up to each other while planning Kelly's wedding. But do they really want the same future?

Hopeless Romantic is a great book that opens with tons of funny, fragmented internal dialogues, and closes with one of the most amazing endings. And oh what I'd give to be physically there for the wholesome final scene. It is also aptly named. While Teddi is the one owning a business with the namesake, Leah is the actual hopeless romantic.

The relationship arc is beautifully done, and none of the obstacles they face are not random events. It breaks my heart to see the temporary incompatibility. With the escalation of their love throughout the story, it is impossible not to root for them to work through their differences. As Teddi's best friend Harlow said, "obstacles are made to be conquered."

There are a lot of wonderful friendships in the story. Teddi has her right-hand man Preston and photographer Harlow while Leah has her family and best friends Tilly and JoJo. All are incredibly supportive and great people in general. I am happy for them to have such friends in life.

At some point in the book, I had the oddest thought that Teddi felt more like a "Leah" and Leah a "Teddi." That doesn't really make much sense but thought I'd share. Also, Lindsay and Piper from Blend made cameos.

I guess every romance reader is at least a little bit of a hopeless romantic, and Beers's newest story guarantees to capture your heart. It is a wonderful rom-com with intriguing characters, happy settings (because weddings are almost always very happy, right?), and the best ending. What's not to love?

Since quarantine started, my rate of finishing new romance books has hit a low. I'd start something and even if I was enjoying it, something would happen and I'd lose interest or leave it hanging for later.

Thank you, Georgia Beers, for this sweet romance. It's exactly what I needed. I finished it. Woo!

The lovers in this story are Teddi, the owner of a wedding planning business named Hopeless Romantic, and Leah, a divorce lawyer who actually was a hopeless romantic. The moment these two ladies met eyes, I was sold. Man, Beers knows her way around a meet-cute.

I've had my quibbles about the last few books Beers has released, so I'm so pleasantly satisfied by this. It's romantic, has some tension, but not enough to make me run away from it in this very delicate reading period of mine. I see she's sprinkling more diversity into her supporting characters. This book was less Brayden-flavored, which was a gigantic plus. And I got to read about a character obsessing over her love interest dark eyes, which doesn't happen as often as one would think. Well done.

New quibble:

The chemistry was there. The adorable awkward meeting was there. The femme ladies in sexy businesswear were there. The flirting was there. The romantic leads in their late thirties and forties were there. I was on board for all of this.

The conflict over was realistic and had me pretty nervous. It could've gone left: . The ending was a little too sweet for me, but I powered through and still enjoyed, haha.

A very lovely read! 4.5 stars :)

Amazing... This is an amazing read! Hands down one of the best romance book's I've come across this year and I actually read it twice while i was away on holiday.
The chemistry is bouncing off the pages, the 2 main characters, Teddi and Leah have sparks flying between the pair. Both characters are very lovable and the story is well written. I've only read a handful of Georgia Beers books such as 96 hours, Turning the pages and The neighbors wife, which are all just as good. I will be investing in some more books by her.

5 stars!

I was given ARC for a honest review. Hope you enjoy the book as much as what I did.

A classic Georgia Beers love story. Wonderful characters, great dialog and a sweet story.
This one is a slow burn that spans over a year, perfect for fans of slow burn romances.

It was a solid read, which is usually the case with any Georgia Beers book. I never get tired of saying that she doesn't disappoint! Every book is better than the last one.

I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this. This month has been a bit of a downer for me, and this book was a great pick me up. Every now and then I just want to read a nice, sweet romance and this fit the bill nicely.

This features MCs Teddi, a divorced wedding planner, and Leah, sister of a bride to be who hires Teddi to plan her wedding. The catch is that Leah is also a divorce attorney, and she represented Teddi’s ex in their divorce, which cost Teddi half of her business and left her hurt and bitter.

Like in the rom-coms that are frequently mentioned in this book, these two have instant chemistry, and I really enjoyed their connection. Even once they realise who the other is they can’t help but be drawn to each other. I loved the pace their romance unfolded at and the way they talked to each other (the banter was pretty damn cute). There’s also some great side characters in Leah’s family and friends and Teddie’s friends (her family isn’t quite as fleshed out).

Everything flows along smoothly until the 80% mark, when the wheels came off pretty spectacularly. This was where I had to knock a star off the rating, I didn’t buy that these two would just walk away from each other without trying to reach a compromise, no discussion, nothing, just ‘we want different things, so we’re done’. The rom-commy ending was also a bit too twee for me, I got where it was coming from but thought it was way over the top. Still I did love them as a couple, so was happy to see them reunite. If you’re in the mood for a cute romance, this should do the trick.

This started off really well and I liked that instant attraction between the mains, but it kinda hit a plateau half way in... until the drama with the break up happened, of course. I thought Teddi incorporating the romcom scenes for Leah was a brilliant touch though.

I usually love books by Georgia Beers, but this one missed the mark for me.

For me this was a perfectly lovely summer read, light and fluffy, very nice character and well written, little angst. Of course it’s a Georgia Beers romance so you can expect quality. Even so some I like better than others and this one is a 4.5 star novel for me. If you are looking for a good escape novel that is able to distract you from corona rules and troubles, I advise you to read this.

Why was this so meh?
Why did I never connect with het rom com through my life? Oh yeah, it was the fact they were so alien from my own experience that sci-fi was actually more believable to me. This is the most subtle alternate universe I’ve ever read. We are living in a time and place where same-sex attraction is as plausible as opposite sex. Homophobia doesn’t exist. Gaydar works so well the person you think is cute is actively gay.
No stress, perfect mate until way too late into the narrative. It felt forced. The grand gesture was lacking in realism and smacked of those forced, awkward vids of people proposing in public.

My rating: three stars

I’ve come to realize that you can always count on Georgia Beers to write romance novels that are delightful, thrilling and fun to read. Hopeless Romantic, her newest contemporary romance, is just another example of how well she writes in this genre.

This is an enemies-to-lovers style story with engaging characters. One is a divorced wedding planner (Teddi) and the other main character (Leah) is the lawyer who represented Teddi’s ex in the divorce. When the two meet in the story, sparks fly for more than one reason.
The idea of falling for the lawyer who helped your ex almost ruin your life in a divorce really intrigued me, and was one of the reasons I chose to read this book. I wanted to see how Teddi could overcome what I felt would be an almost insurmountable obstacle. I would have had a really hard time forgiving, much less falling in love with, Leah in the same circumstances.

The tale is well written, and for the most part I believed in the story. The characters are realistic, and the romance is the kind that melts your heart. Of course there is some angst in the tale and these two do have some major difficulties to overcome, but this is a Georgia Beers’ romance after all. You have to expect that.
This novel is a great summer (or really any season) read with beautiful characters, some angst, and a great romance. If you are into love stories that will make your heart melt, then you should read this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for giving me the chance to read and honestly review this novel.

While this romance was enjoyable, it was the same formulaic structure as all of Beers' books of late. Likable characters, nice build, the sex was just okay....then at the 80 percent mark, up pops the issue to split them up. So while these are different characters in a different setting, (and the premise was definitely fun) it's all basically the same. The grand gesture was the stuff of Hallmark movies (no surprise since Beers is all about those) and while it was completely unbelievable, hey - that's why we love a good romance, right?
I always like her books, but it seems like Beers is standing still while the writing and storytelling in the lesfic genre is improving by leaps and bounds. That almost hurts me to write because I've been a fan of hers for decades. I keep hoping she'll break out of her comfortable bubble and try something new. This wasn't it. There were also a few distracting editing issues that interrupted the flow for me.
I can't recommend her books as highly as I once did, but I have tons of respect for an author who has put out more than 30 books in her career. I would never say this isn't worth reading, but it's not one that I would encourage you to move to the top of your to-read list either.

After her divorce, Teddi came close to bankruptcy and had to close two out of three locations for her wedding planning business, Hopeless Romantic. Deeply hurt by her ex, she has wanted nothing to do with her own romantic life, and does not believe in a happily ever after anymore; she is no longer a “hopeless romantic,” though she continues to do an excellent job as a wedding planner.

One day, a new customer, Kelly, walks in with her older sister, Leah. There is instant attraction between Teddi and Leah, though both try to brush it off. They quickly realize that Leah was Teddi’s ex-wife’s attorney. Even though both of them try to avoid it, the attraction lingers.

This is another delightful romance by Georgia Beers, and—like her other books that I’ve read—completely unputdownable. I loved seeing how the relationship bloomed and how each person grew because of the relationship. I am a hopeless romantic, and this book brought me joy. I am going to be purchasing a hard copy of it.

Wow! I was hoping to enjoy this book but really wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. I just connected to this book so quickly and deeply. This is only the second Georgia Beers book that I’ve read (I thought the first one was okay but nothing special) and now I’m excited to read more from her impressive backlist. This is such a happy, heartwarming and simply sweet romance. I feel like I was smiling like crazy for the majority of the story and I can see myself re-reading this in the future. I really can’t stress enough how happy this book made me. Like, if you are feeling a bit down, I definitely recommend this fo a quick pick-me-up. The sweetness is just everything.

In this book, Teddi is a divorced wedding planner who is quite cynical regarding marriage. On the opposite side, Leah is a divorce lawyer who is much more of a hopeless romantic who loves nothing more than watching romantic comedies. Teddi is planning Leah’s sister’s wedding and realised that Leah was the divorce lawyer that represented her ex in the divorce proceedings that essentially ruined her life. This is especially a shame given the strong chemistry and attraction between these two women.. Considering the dynamic between the characters, this book could have been a lot angstier than it was. I mean, I can enjoy angst as much as the next person (in small doses), but I loved that the tone of this was much lighter and happier than I was expecting.

I loved the characters, I adored the romance and I enjoyed the side-characters. I don’t have much else to say, this book just made me happy and I can’t recommend it strongly enough.

I enjoyed this book so much. I wanted to read a sweet and compelling f/f romance and Hopeless Romantic was a great choice. In it, you will meet two opposites but as we all know, opposites attract.

Teddi Baker is a wedding planner who doesn't want to get re-married after her divorce that didn't end well while Leah is a divorce attorney who always dreamed of being married to the woman she loved. When Leah's younger sister is looking for a wedding planner, Teddi fits perfectly and Teddi can't agree more. Sparks fly even though they don't know at first who they are to each other. Leah was the lawyer who helped her ex-wife to get what she wanted in the divorce. So when Teddi learn that, it's not easy for her but she'll end up growing as a character and I loved that about her. On the other hand, I feel like Leah might not have grown as much. The reason why is kind of a spoiler so here it is :

Other than that, I don't really have anything bad to say about this book. Overall, it was pretty cute and enjoyable! I'm curious to read more from this author in the future.

Leah is a divorce attorney and a hopeless romantic. When her sister Kelly starts planning her wedding, she's ready to jump in with both feet, until she meets her sister's prickly but undeniably attractive wedding planner, Teddi Baker. Teddi used to be a romantic, but after a bitter divorce leaves her heartbroken and her business in shambles, she's more than a little cynical about love. She still gives it her all when it comes to her business, but business becomes personal when she starts planning her client Kelley's wedding, and it turns out that Kelley's sister Leah was her ex-wife's divorce attorney. Determined not to let her feelings affect her job, she works hard to be civil with Leah and soon discovers that maybe her feelings aren't just those of anger towards the beautiful woman.

This has been one of my favourite books by Georgia Beers in a while! The tension between the two leading ladies at the beginning was so good, it was such a wild and unique situation. This is one of the most lovely and romantic books I've read, particularly with Teddi's job. Leah was a delightful character, in spite of her job or perhaps because of it, she had such a postive outlook on life. Plus, with the heat and humidity of the summer dragging me down it was so lovely to read a book that brings us into the cozy fall and winter.

Hopeless Romantic is one of my favorite books by Georgia Beers. Teddi Baker is a wedding planner. She loves a happy ending but she doesn't believe it for herself anymore after her divorce ripped her apart and her business as well. She has essentially been a funk for the last couple of years. She is trying to rebuild herself and her business. Leah Scott is a divorce attorney who gives her all to her clients including Teddi's ex-wife. She fights to make sure she get them the best settlement possible after seeing her mother struggle after getting a divorce from Leah's dad. She does believe in love and wants to marry someday. When Teddi is hired to be the wedding planner for Leah's wedding they initially don't know who each other are and the sparks fly. To bad she soon releases who Leah is.

So I really enjoyed Hopeless Romantic. Of all the Beer's books I have read this is probably my favorite. The author has put together some really good chemistry between the mains. I always love when an author can do that. I think one thing that really clicked with me is the mention of the various romantic comedy movies. It was serious nostalgia for me. And who didn't think about You've got mail? Yes for me all those movies put a little extra magic in this romance. Even though Teddi has an issue with Leah and you wonder if and how they would make it to the next stage and then Beers just makes it happen. It is so smooth and flows just right. I even liked the angst in Hopeless Romantic. I normally like low angst but this one needed more to build up to the end. And the end was so good. I just really loved it.

2020 has been really challenging, but one thing I can say is that I have read some absolutely wonderful romances this year. Hopeless Romantic is another one I can add to the list.

Teddi always believe in happily ever after but since her divorce she been jaded and have to rebuild her life especially when she loses most of her assets. When she meets Kelly who needs a wedding planner she jump at the chance for the job because she needs it.

Leah wants her sister Kelly to be happy and she believes everyone deserves happiness despite her being a divorce attorney. When Teddi and Leah meet they don’t realize Leah is the attorney who represent her ex Julia in their divorce that nearly cost her everything.

While they spend time together planning Kelly wedding they both feels a attraction although Teddi is a bit piss at Leah she comes to realize she was only doing her job. I like the dialogue between them as they got to know each other and that both had supporting characters who were there for them. This will make great rom-com enemies to lovers themes because you’ll be rooting for them see they are perfect together.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Sign of today’s times with covid 19 around, I found myself less compelled to finish quickly. I usually devour a Georgia Beers book in a couple days. The story is good, just my attention span isn’t up to par.

Predictable story line - but that's why I buy Georgia Beers books, so a little unkind. A homage to Romcom films, nicely sign-posted if you missed them, with an excellent collection of back players. Just too formulaic at this stage of my reading career to be 5*.

3.5 rounded up to 4 because I think I hold Beers to a higher standard than some other authors since I know she's capable of great books and I may expect more. And read Lex's review since that pretty much sums it up, more eloquently than I would write it.

I was so excited to pick up another Georgia Beers novel after reading Flavor of the Month a couple of months back. This one particularly interested me because of the whole divorce lawyer who loves rom-coms and wedding planner who doesn't believe in happily ever afters dynamic. First and foremost, I did really enjoy the wedding planning aspects. It's an area I know absolutely nothing about (except from watching countless episodes of Don't Tell the Bride) and it was really interesting to get a little peek into that world. On the same note, I wish we'd seen a little more of Leah's work life (although I understand that divorce law is very complicated and not the lightest subject to write about). Another thing I really enjoyed about this was the family and friendship dynamics. Leah's family were so sweet and supportive of each other and it's something I really love to read in lesbian romance books, as so many of us sadly don't get to see that in real life. One of Teddi's friends is also genderqueer which I was also really excited to see, as I have sadly not read of many genderqueer characters in literature. Finally, I also loved that this followed a couple that are slightly older than the normal couples I read about in romance novels (they're not that old - in their late 30s and mid 40s) so it was really refreshing!

However, I did have a couple of issues. Much the same as with Flavor of the Month, I found this to be almost painfully slow at times. I for one love character driven novels, and I don't mind if there isn't much of a plot line if the characters are great. However, I think because this does take place over a year and was quite repetitive, what with the heavy focus on the wedding planning, it did seem to drag a little bit. I also have started to get a wee bit bored of romance authors writing in a conflict about three quarters of the way into a book, especially when, in the case of this book, it could have been overcome if the characters just talked to each other!

Regardless, I did really enjoy my time reading this and I will definitely keep an eye out for Georgia Beer's other books in the future! I would also definitely recommend this to those who loved The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth!

Thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for an e-Arc of this in return for a review!

A wedding planner who doesn't believe in marriage and a divorce lawyer who had unshakable faith in marriage. A marriage-shy divorcee who knows how to be in a relationship and handle the rough parts with maturity and a marriage-keen romantic who is rather clueless about how to deal with the uncomfortable moments of disagreement in a relationship. Very interesting character contexts in this one.

Hopeless Romantic is the book I have been waiting for. It’s sexy, sassy and all about romance!

If Hallmark does not pick this book up for screen production, then they are just damn crazy! Talk about the perfect romance with a little bit of angsty torture that we all know Georgia Beers is fond of! Who doesn’t love a little torture in their romance novels?

I loved this book from the moment I read the words chapter one. I connected with Leah so much throughout the story. She loves all my favourite movies and her favourite pastime is going to the movie theatre to watch rom-coms then eat cake afterwards. That’s my kind of human.

Teddi Baker is this beautiful, kind woman who had her world turned upside down by her ex-wife. If anyone deserves a woman like Leah Scott, it’s her. There was this moment that has stuck with me after reading the book; then it impacted me again after listening to the audiobook. Leah and Teddi almost fall into bed together but don’t. Leah gives this little speech after it, and I think I swooned so hard I nearly hit my head. Watch out for that moment because it’s one of the most romantic, heartfelt moments I’ve ever read. It’s a goddamn special moment and I kind of expected little heart to start floating out of the book.

I think you all know now how I feel about Georgia Beers’ skilful writing of first kisses. Actually all kisses… She’s the Queen of writing the kissing moments. Leah and Teddi’s first kiss had my heart beating faster than normal. I have no idea if it was the count down to the kiss (yes, literally a countdown) that maximised the intensity or if it was Georgia Beers just sprinkling her magical kissing fairy dust… who knows! But it was amazing but funnily enough not the kiss itself but what it signified and more importantly for what was to come. Because when the second kiss happened, it knocked my socks off and from there the intensity of each kiss just got better, and the chemistry got more powerful between them.

Lastly, no epilogue and I can’t believe I’m saying this but no epilogue needed. The happily ever after is baked in here and the story takes place over the period of a year, so you know by the end that these two are going to ride off into happiness together.

Audiobook

I read this first then listened to the audio. Lori Prince is the narrator and did a great job at portraying both Teddi and Leah. Lori Prince has narrated a few of Georgia Beers’ novels now, and it seems like she’s a good fit and always get the characters the way I would see them in my head.

Leah and Teddi have chemistry in spades, and it’s from the beginning. The build-up to them having sex is really intense and plays out beautifully. What I didn’t expect was how hot they would be together when they hit the sheets… wow! Leah and Teddi know how to light up the sheets.

I think my favourite moments were when it was just them sitting on the couch and their intimate chemistry flowed. You could really feel the emotional connection between both characters. The eternal romantic in me loved that.

This book is officially one of my Georgia Beers favourites. It’s the kind of book that sucks you in and has you finishing it in one sitting. The swoon factor is high with this one, and I adored the happy ever after feels at the end.

I’ve lost count of the books written by Ms Beers that I’ve reviewed. Now with some authors every once in a while I find a book that just doesn’t seem to fit with their previous books. Ms Beers consistently gives us a book that is fun to read with a fair share of witty dialogue and some pretty steamy action. I’m grateful that this book follows her previous offerings.
Leah Scott, divorce attorney worked this genre mainly because she had seen first hand just how unfair the system can be. When her own father left her mom with two daughters to raise Leah was only in her early teens with a younger sister, Kelly, that she spent her life trying to be there for anytime she was needed. Now her sister has decided she wants Leah to not only be her matron of honor but help her plan her wedding day. No Problem, right. And it shouldn’t have been a problem but for the fact that Kelly's choice of wedding planner was a woman that had been married to Leah's client. And seeing she was good at her job she took her clients ex wife Teddi to the cleaners.
Teddi Baker loves her career. She gets to help brides make the big day as stress free as possible. Her own marriage didn’t turn out the way she wanted it, ending in divorce and her ex just about destroying the business Teddi built up over time and hard work. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t help others, right. And everything was going well until her next client turned out to be Kelly and she brought along with her the very woman Teddi held responsible. The bigger problem was the fact that both Teddi and Leah were very attracted to each other.
Teddi, because her track record didn’t go as planned, she did not want to ever get married again. On the other hand we have Leah whose career was helping people who wanted a divorce but she herself was a hopeless romantic. Both women have great friends who are determined at getting Teddi and Leah together no matter how hard Teddi makes it.
Again, great dialogue, steaming action and just an all around enjoyable read.
