See that up there? That was your warning that there probably be MILD spoilers in this review... if you're going to complain about them... STOP READING NOW!!!!!
I feel it only necessary to warn ya’ll that I’m about to fan girl…. and fan girl hard… there will most likely be mild spoilers, rants, gushing, screaming, crying, laughing and all around Jenny acting like a crazy lady… don’t say you weren’t warned…. Let’s begin.
In the beginning God created….oh, okay, wrong book…sorry. In the beginning, we have a recap of Day proposing, like he did at the end of “Don’t Judge”. I had somehow almost forgotten about that, so I was glad for the reminder and it kicked my fan girl into overdrive. And before I get to into it; can we all just appreciate the perfectness of this cover? I mean, these guys are gorgeous and somehow the covers of this series are always spot on…. Shew!
Now, the first chapter.... right off the bat, we get thrown into madness… a massive firefight that kept my knuckles white the entire time I was clutching my kindle. Green and Ruxs.. I gotta say, I could perfectly picture during their moment of badassery; and how inappropriate were the thoughts I had. I think there’s something wrong with me lol
Then we get to finally meet Tech; now I want to say he’s mentioned before because of course they have a tech guy, but I don’t remember him and I’ve just recently read and re-read these books a half dozen times preparing myself for this one to come out and I don’t remember him SO, here he is; in all his geeked out gorgeous glory. I think I might be a little bit in love with him…(Don’t tell Green and Ruxs). He also reminded me, for some reason a little bit of Michaels in the beginning. He didn’t feel like his job was as important as everyone else’s; he knew he was part of the team, just not AS part of the team, does that make sense? He’s the man behind the scenes that keeps everyone and everything in check. His job might not be in the thick of the action but his job is arguably one of the most important, a lot of stuff rides on his back or they’d all be dead; this one instance in the beginning especially. I’m glad Syn reiterated that and I hoped he got to realize that better as the story went on…. He did : )
Then we meet Steele; after quitting his team for being a bunch of homophobes and getting his partner killed, he couldn’t handle it anymore. Not after his career of being a Black Ops, hardcore bad A was ruined after getting hurt. It was just too much to put up with. He wanted to do his job and do it well; he, like the other guys that we know and love, was proud of his job but how could you do that when everyone was working against you? So, his Uncle; Atlanta councilman, showed him a video of God and all his guys in action and he knew that’s where he belonged.
It was a hard road at first; all of the guys are family, you can’t get any closer than these guys are to each other; one doesn’t work without the other, no matter who you’re talking about; so to throw in a new guy? Well, of course it was going to be tough. Then Tech puts his foot in his mouth a time or two because they’re insanely attracted to each other and lemme tell ya’ll… it’s hot…. Steele fits in great with Ruxs and Green; they’ll all just alike. It’s entertaining as much as they are rowdy. Loved the Ray Lewis reference too; I miss him lol. Seeing/Reading them in action is exciting and nerve wracking; getting that way over fictional characters isn’t easy to do, but they’re perfectly depicted, it’s like a movie going on in my head and I was loving every second of it!
Now; we did go back and forth between Steele and Tech’s POV, but we also got God and Day thrown in too because of a little misunderstanding that had me tearing up a few times, if that could be believed. I hated for Day that he doubted his relationship, and not saying that anything bad came out of it, it didn’t… it was all internal stuff; just Day dealing with his own mind, nothing serious, so nobody worry about that. And also, Tech’s friend and mentor Free… I reeeally liked him and Hart together, I was pulling for them, hoping to stretch the book out so much longer so we could get more from them… here’s to hoping for more of them!
Watching Steele fall for Tech was something else. He wore his feelings on his sleeve and didn’t care who took notice. He wanted him from the day he clapped eyes on him and he made no bones about it. It was sexy watching their go round, trying to go slow but not really wanting to. By the time they finally had their date, I was ready for Tech to cling to him like a baby koala and not ever let go. I loved these two together so much. Don’t get me wrong, they don’t top Ruxs and Green for me, but they’re riiiiight up there with them.
We also see Prescott Vaughn and his men, Ric and Blair; they run into some trouble and you wanna know who was incredibly mouthwatering in that whole scene? Ro… my goodness, I’d love to wish him real and put him on an HBO show or something, just so I could see him action like he did with Mercer. Wheeeew… seriously. Actually, I want to wish them ALL real so I could give them all an HBO show and watch them everyday…. How awesome would that be?! (See, this is part of the fan girl I was warning you about) The two most memorable scenes for me, was the garbage truck one and Ro’s interrogation of Mercer…. Thank you Mrs. Via for giving me those. They won’t be something I forget anytime soon.
Also… the wedding. I feel like I’ve waited forever for it just because I wanted it to badly. I love every single one of these guys.
I thought for sure we were going to have more problems with Vasquez and I’m sure we will when we get Frees story… WHICH I CANNOT WAIT FOR!!!
I could go on and on and on and on about this story, but I don’t want to give EVERYTHING away….
Lemme just tell you, also…. I’m more than a little bit obsessed with Gen and Curtis and I feel like that bonus read at the end, could not have been any more perfect. I’ve adored the way Gen is with Curtis and seeing him take his back (with the help of Free of course) was incredibly sexy…. as was the rest of it (fanning myself over here)
Honestly, this series is amazing, this author is amazing and this addition has been nothing less than amazing. Today was just my first time reading it. I’m going to have to go back and reread them all again just because I’m not ready to be done with them, just yet. I’ll be impatiently waiting for Free and hopefully Hart’s story…..
5 stars from me!
