Zach “HARD” Harden was a perfectly sinful one-night stand—a gorgeous, bad boy Navy SEAL totally deserving of his nickname. He wasn’t a bad decision at the time, but I’ve never made a good mistake…even a toe-curling one.
He didn’t tell me who he was. He didn’t tell me why he found me. And he sure as hell didn’t tell me he was my step-brother in town to divvy up my estranged father’s will—an inheritance that includes a fabulous mansion.
But I can’t hide my feelings for him, even in a giant estate. I make Zach a deal. He can stay at the mansion with me until he deploys, then I use my trust fund to buy out his half. One wave of the checkbook and the arrogant player is out of my life forever.
Except Zach is the one man who makes the forbidden seem forgivable. He’s sexy. He’s charming.
And he’s just too HARD to resist.
HARD is a standalone, super flirty, temptingly steamy adult romance with a guaranteed happily-ever-after!
Shay was a bitch. I caught what she felt but she went on and on and on.....how Zach's head did not explode or his he maintained attraction to Shay....geeze.
Shay and Zach meet at bar, both seem to be drowning their sorrow neither looking for company, but they're attracted to one and other. One thing leads to another and they have a one night stand.
Zach, knows exactly who Shay is, but can't be attracted to her. When Shay's father will is read Shay find out exactly who Zach is and hate the fact Zach knew they were step sibling even if was only for a short time.
Shay tries to push Zach away even though she's falling for him, but she's also trying to deal with all the money, ect she's & Zach are about to inherit from her father will. SEAL Zach is trying to push all Shay's button whilst being stubborn and not giving into her.
They fight their attraction and feelings for so long until neither can deny it, but with both keeping secrets will it be so easy?
It as good first novel by Sosie, can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
It was a great book. It had all the elements a good book should have, the story was well set, emotions were nicely weaved into words. The characters were great and i pretty much liked reading them. I loved the chemistry and relation between them. It was sassy, hot, erotic and heart breaking at the same time. Overall i enjoyed reading it.
I really enjoyed this book!! I want to read more from this author!! I love the build up to getting together. This was a lot of laughs and a few scary moments but all is well.
Shay Franklin is preparing to attend the wedding of her father--a father who abandoned the family when she was a child and whose sole support was strictly financial--when a car accident took the lives of both her father and his new bride. She is now in charge of converting all the arrangements of a happy celebration into two separate funerals. As she is nursing her mixed feelings at the bar, she encounters the handsome Zach Harden, a Navy SEAL now on leave, who eventually breaks down her defenses and she ends up baring her soul to him. They eventually leave together and share a one-night stand that shakes both of them.
A few days later, as she is meeting with her father's attorney and preparing to discuss his Last Will, she is surprised to learn that her father had already married his new bride in a small ceremony before their accident and a portion of his extremely large estate will be shared with a stepbrother she has never met. She doesn't care about the money, and actually feels guilty about using any of it since she would rather have had a relationship with her father than to have him attempt to buy her love. However, she is miffed that her father didn't even bother to tell her he had already gotten married and had a new family. So with that blend of mixed feelings, she is not eager to meet her new stepbrother and is prickly about sharing anything that remains of her father. She is even more stunned and hurt when she meets the new stepbrother and realizes it is Zach, the guy she hasn't been able to get out of her head.
There is a lot of back-and-forth, hot-and-cold between them; Zach pushing for another chance with her, Shay not able to get over the fact that technically they are now related, and angry that he didn't tell her that fact before they got together. They are also both very young, she only 21, he is 24. Add into the mix that they are now sharing a huge 35,000 sq.ft. mansion and the huge fortune her billionaire father left them. Even with hopeful progression to their relationship and a bright future on the horizon, this is most definitely a HFN ending, but it works.
My version was an ebook, and one complaint I have was the poor editing. There were spelling and grammatical errors that occurred frequently and were a distraction and need to be addressed.
Hot and surprising! Sometimes, you start with a story that makes you smile, then it bothers you a little, and then it grabs your heart and spins your mind with the sheer beauty of it. That is HARD for me.
The premise is quite appealing and original. Two stepsiblings that inherit a fortune that binds them in lust and shared space until they can sort out their lives. It's a very entertaining read with two characters that clash on all levels, and they make fun and fire explode all over the pages. A SEAL and a would-be teacher with abandonment issues. Mmm. Hot.
As I read, there were things I enjoyed a lot and other things that not so much. One of its best assets is the writing style, it's so creative and sarcastic. As Shay and Zach are forced to share a mansion and wait out for the money to pour on them, they argue and tease to no end. The story is funny, witty, and definitely sexy. The passion between them is actually gorgeous to read and feel.
I also liked that Shay had issues with her estranged father, or that Zach was a SEAL suffering hard consequences from his line of work. What I enjoyed a bit less what that he's so arrogant and teases Shay mercilessly or that she acts a bit hysterical and horny around him. Sometimes the storytelling got repetitive as the same thoughts were gone over again and again.
I guess part of it was due to the fact that the author seemed to try to keep a light mood. However, after the first half of the novel, the mood changes and deep emotions and fears come out into the light. That moment, the exact moment when they opened their hearts a little and both their desires and human fears collided, was when the real magic happened. True life decisions over work and goals and ambitions and identity, all layered with the most agonizingly pleasurable sex descriptions. Yeah...
Despite those minor bumps in the road, this story completely conquered my heart. A unique writing style, an original premise, two fantastic, warm characters, and a beautifully romantic and spicy relationship. Nothing more to ask for. Oh, yes, another story coming from Sosie Frost in the Fall. Yay!
Zach Harden is a man on a mission, the mission is to get back in to the SEALS after a terrible injure has sent him home on medical. His whole life has been about the SEALS and nothing else matter until her saw her sitting alone at her sitting alone at the bar. Shay Franklin has not had the best week, she was suppose to give a speech at a fathers wedding when the unthinkable happens, he and his fiance die suddenly in a car crash , now the wedding is turned into a funeral. Shay barley knew her father and is struggling with her emotions and how to feel , so she decides to have a drink. while drowning her sorrows, a handsome strange shows up and Shay decides to put her emotions aside and have a wild night of sex, but when Shay finds out that the sexy stranger that gave her the best night of her life is not only her Step-Brother but is also entitled to half of her Billion dollar inheritance, Shay sees Red but all Zach can see is love. Good read, well written and fun story. Shay and Zach were Fire! I will admit at times Shay was beyond frustrating. One minute she hates Zach the next she can't keep her hands off him which normally doesn't bother me, but Shay was just too much. The whole "siblings" thing was new to me and I was a little skeptical at first, it was weird, but this was really well written and was done in good taste. worth the read.
Received a copy for an honest review. Do you enjoy a book that has sass, laughter and is sexy? This is a great debut for Sosie Frost. Hard starts out with a great conversation in a bar. Shay is having a pretty rough day. What should have been a wedding turned into a funeral. Shay is independent, sassy and oh so stubborn. Enter the hot Navy Seal Zach that has charm, sex appeal and lives up to his nickname. These two have a night that could make fireworks go off. Will it stay as a one night stand? Things take a turn for Shay when she meets with her fathers lawyer. There is a twist and a turn for Shay. The conversations between Shay and Zach were fabulous. I found myself looking forward to seeing what was going to be said to who next. There is heat, humor and a little bit of sadness. Will Zach be able to go back to being a Seal after his recovery? Will Shay be able to move past being so stubborn when it comes to Zach? How will these two move forward when the walls breakdown and they begin to see past the current picture and take a long hard look at the picture of what life can be?
This is my first step-brother romance book and I was disappointed. I feel like if I liked the heroine then maybe I would of liked this more. I'm not going to bash it, because that's what this review would turn to. Before getting into what I dislike about this book (mainly the heroine), I tell you why this is a 2 star instead of a 1. The whole how she finds out that Zach is her step-brother and what happened after was good, I enjoyed the parts when she wasn't being annoying.
Okay now onto Shay, mmm. Man was she annoying, like really annoying. It was so hard to finish this book, because I can't deal with her complaining. Like, girl please stop you're embarrassing yourself. It seems like she keeps forgetting that Zach was entitled to the estate and the money because he was written into her fathers will. She sounded so money hungry and like a gold-digger, even she admitted it. She is, she has all this money, but she still wants more, on what she considers to be hers. She hated her dad, but wanted the money.
I really don't recommend this one. You're not going to love Shay, like at all.
this book is annoying me, I got it as an add on to another book that I really liked. it started out really good. but as I got deeper into the book, shay really began to bug the crap out of me. she whined through the whole damn book about how much of a worthless father she had, but all of the money and assets should be hers and only hers. then she feels guilty about getting the inheritance because, yet again, he was a crappy father and they had no relationship. God forbid Zach, who actually spoke with her father more than she did, get anything that is "rightfully hers". then the whole back and forth about whether they should be together, she acts like they grew up together. I couldn't even finish the book, because during one of the heated scenes, she was so far inside her head about how it would look that she's screwing her"step- brother" that it absolutely killed the intensity of the scene. I say he needs to take everything and go find someone who isn't such a self entitled little priss.
I loved the premise of the book, that Shay and Zach inherit a fortune and must share the mansion while waiting for the money. It was a nice twist on the traditional stepbrother theme. And of course, the book was hot with a side of chemistry! I loved how they would argue and banter all the time. It kept me chuckling.
I also loved that Zach is a SEAL. I’m a sucker for SEAL books and it’s always nice when two of your favorite themes are combined.
In most of the stepbrother books I’ve read (And I’ve read a lot), you don’t often find one with estranged relationships between the characters and their parent. So Shay having issues and an estrangement with her dad was certainly something that set this apart.
Another thing I loved about this book is that it was a dual POV. For me, it always helps me when I can see into both characters’ heads.
I definitely enjoyed this debut novel from Sosie Frost.

💖Sosie's stolen my heart! 💘Read this book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This author's writing is so full of compassion, awareness of people and their many complexities, and passion! I so appreciate her building strong and well thought out story backgrounds and story lines. I particularly appreciate you honoring the work and sacrifice of the our military folks. I love Zach's humor, confidence. And how he was a junkie for Shay's mocha 👩🏾beauty (didn't hurt that he could bake a pecan pie from scratch). I love that Shay had a heart for helping the underprivileged and that she was a good girl with a secret side. 😉MY FAVORITE PART HAD TO BE THE STATEMENT ABOUT THE BUTTER!! Yes....it is a crime to substitute anything else for real butter....shame on those who do. LOL!
I really enjoyed this read. It was cute, funny, sad, and erotic. It was very well written , and the characters were wonderful. I would love to read more from this author. Congrats Ms Frost on a home run!!
Wow first book that I read from this author, and I have to say that I love it, love the characters and love how the book turned out to be, can't wait to read more of this author
A really great book that shares Shay's emotional journey. Can she forgive Zach? Will some time spent together heal past disappointments, fears and loneliness?
Shay was a pain in ass.All this back and forth was exhausting between Shay and Zach.I did like Zach but I just wish he could've had a better female lead.
Some books I borrow and take back. Others, I can’t bear to part with.
They say your library is an expansion of your mind and Ms Frost have once again seduce my reading pleasure and has put me on such a high that I can’t get off that drug. “HARD” is by far one of the best books I’ve read thus far, that’s given me one of the best reading experience in a long time.
Ms Frost writing is extremely addictive and she always gives you such a thrill that it’s hard to escape that feeling. Her storyline and structuring is purely a work of artistic creation. The composition is amazing, the plot is superbly written, every sentence is constructively crafted and tells a whole tale on its own. Ms. Frost always writes her stories in such a genius way, that one could only look on in with star struck eyes and merriment.
It’s very difficult for me to elaborate about this book without spoiling the story, because I think you will get the explosive plot if I go into lengthy details. So it’s best you go in this not knowing anything at all. Both (Zach) and (Shay) are well-rounded, complex, relatable, perfectly written, graphic characters and their layers were stripped naked giving us a more intimate feel to them.
Still without giving much away, this book made both characters face their own fears, insecurities, failures, and accept who they truly are, rather than what they think they are, and they didn’t let what others think about them deter them from being happy. This book was about many of those things, but above all it was also about discovering love and facing your demons together and not alone.
I truly can express how remarkable this book is, it holds so many things great about it that’s it’s “HARD” to categorize it into one wholesome sentence.
Altogether I can say this, please just read this book, it’s simply amazing.
I'm not saying much, just that I love Zach/Hard & Shay... Don't care much for her so called friends, I wish something was done with miss Sweeten ,the teacher (Karma and all) ... And it is so sad that she didn't give her dad a chance... Book is full humor, keep you laughing or smiling. A snippet for you; "“One chance, Shay.” Zach’s voice was the whipped, creamy topping to my mocha grace. “That’s all I ask.” “You’re my step-brother.” “Baby, no one’s gonna see the family resemblance.” His lips touched mine. Tenderly. More a question"...
Hard: A Step-Brother Romance is a very sensual interracial romance that earned a rating of four stars. In the middle of planning her father's wedding, Shay had to plan her funeral. After her father's death Shay met Zack in a bar. He knew who she was but she didn't know he was her step brother. They had to overcome a lot of obstacles to find their happy ever after. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading very good romantic novels.
This was a read that delved into loss, miscommunication, pride and fear. Amazing how love can wipe all of that to the back of the line. Zach true Navy seal never gave up. They both had fears and daddy issues as well as mommy issues. This was a fun read for the most part. Her friends needed a swift kick in the head. A different book from her series. I have to say I love Sosie Frost series because they really connect families and are funnier than ever.
I really enjoyed this one. This was a good step-brother romance. Zach was hot. Shay was real. She has horrible friends, I don’t think I would’ve forgiven them. Zach was dealing with some serious stuff. Being the typical male, not owning up to the pain. It could have been worst. I will definitely read something else by this author.
I really liked this story although it did focus a lot on one aspect that wasnt overly appealing. The few books Ive read by this author do have a bi-racial aspect to it that doesnt bother me but I as its not at the heart of the story I think is slightly unnessary to include.
Shay Franklin has had a bad week. She was supposed to go to her fathers wedding and planned on making a speech about how great a father he wasn't only for him and his fiance to pass away and the wedding be replaced with a funeral. While drowning her sorrows about not confronting dear old Dad she meets a man at a bar. His name is Zach "Hard" Harden and she was hard up for him. She decides to go home with him and has an amazing night of sex. What a surprise it is to her when she goes to the lawyers office to settle her dad's estate and she finds out not only is her dad a billionaire who left her a ton of money but that he had secretly married his fiance a month earlier and she has a stepbrother. Her dad's massive mansion was left to both of them and when he walks in he is no other than her one night stand. This is when things get really hard.
Shay has a hard time reconciling her feelings about her dad and the money he left her and her feelings for her new stepbrother. Zach on the other hand could careless about the step-sibling thing and wants another night with Shay. He is on leave from the military after being hurt really bad. He makes a compromise that they live together in the mansion until he ships out and she can buy out his half of the place. But will they survive the next couple weeks together in the same house as step-siblings or lovers?
I really liked this story. It is an interracial romance since Shay was black and Zach was white but that didn't play a big part of the story. The step-sibling thing was a bigger issue to them than race. There were more layers to the story like about Shay reconciling her feelings about her dad growing up, being a billionaire due to his death and her feelings about Zach. Zach had his own problems. He wanted be in peak physical shape to go back to the military but was having issues with that. He also wanted to build something with Shay. With out giving too much away, I just think this book was really good and look forward to more from this author.
***A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review****
This book starts out with such passion, fire and with a hidden agenda. Loved it. What more can you ask for between step siblings. Shay is fixing to burying her father and was going thru the mourning of a man she really wasn’t able to know and runs into a handsome man at a bar, named Zach” Hard” Harden. One thing leads to another and they had an intense night of passion to which she loved. She wished she had gotten the SEAL’s phone number but with everything going on, she just figured it was for the best. Later after the funeral, she goes to see her father’s lawyer and who should she see there? Zach…and she finds out he is her new step brother. Boy is she highly upset yet still attracted to him. When she finds out that her dad left the estate to both of them, she is so upset because it should be to her, not him. She is completely hurt and angry that Zach is left half when he didn’t know her father at long while she didn’t get to know him any. Zach knew when he saw her who she was but she completely entranced him. He wanted her and he had gone thru some horrible times overseas. He had been badly injured and he was back home trying to recover when his mom and new stepdad had been killed. Zach is this sweet, alpha male who sees the woman of his dreams and he knew what would happen when he seduced her and she found out who he was to her but he took the risk. Well, Shay sure was mad but Zach still continued to pursue his woman. At times he was cocksure with her while Shay has a lifetime of hurt bottled up inside due to how she was raised. The two come together and the story takes a complex turn of events with passion and emotions that raise this from a general stepbrother story to a beautiful, complex story full of emotions that is great and I loved it. I loved the outcome and hope to read more from this author.
What a great debut novel from Sosie Frost. This book was written from both Shay and Zach’s POV. This was hot and sexy. From the beginning it had you drawn in.
Shay was supposed to be at her dads wedding, she was supposed to be meeting his new family. But that didn’t work out instead she was planning the funeral of her dad. She finds herself in a bar looking to numb the feelings she wasn’t sure of. Her dad wasn’t around he sent money, paid for college, sent her a car. Whereas she wanted a dad who was always there not a dad who was just there financially. Then walked in this hot man full of muscles. She wasn’t looking for anything just to be alone, but he was looking for a whole lot more.
Zach “Hard” Harden was a Navy Seal who had some bad luck and was home after he had a bad accident. He know going in who Shay was, but he thought she was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen and he had to have her. But informing her on who he was may never lead him to the road of pure pleasure again. The pleasure of having her in his bed.
But when Shay finds out who Zach is she is mad and can’t believe she slept with her step brother. Then she finds out her dad wrote him in the will. She was beyond mad. When she goes to move in to the mansion he is already there. She wants him out. But does she? Zach has feelings for her and he is bound and determined to get her to admit she feels the same way.
But when a change happens will she change her mind? Shay feels she finally has found her sense of family. This book was full of emotions. There are parts when you will cry, laugh, and swoon. I look forward to reading what Sosie has coming in the future.
Received an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is HOT. Shay has just endured tragedy when she was supposed to be celebrating. She lost her father and new stepmother tragically right after their marriage. While she is drowning her sorrows, she meets a hot stranger, Zach. They have a hot and dirty night then go their separate ways.
Shay later learns that this "stranger" is her new step-brother, whom she had never met. The kicker is that he knew who she was all along. Now she must deal with him, as they must deal with their parent's estate.
The chemistry between these two is sizzling. What Zach wants he usually gets. Shay feels guilty for wanting her step-brother. But the family connection was only temporary, right? Who is it going to hurt to fulfill their desires?
The writing was great and the characters were hot and sexy. Loved the book.

I received a free copy from the author for an honest review. So here goes: Not only is it Hard, but this book is really hot. The story is good, too. Some step stories are just an excuse for steamy sex but have little story involved,Hard has it all. I received a copy that hadn't gone through the final proofreading so I had to grit my teeth over the errors. Hopefully they've been taken care of since.
Shay has no one left. Supposed to be attending her father's wedding to his new love interest, but the wedding doesn't happen. Instead she mourns the loss of the relationship she never had and never will. Drinking in a bar, she finds comfort in a gorgeous man willing to do anything. Why not, it's not like she's going to see him again. Hard, however, knows he's going to see Shay again. When he does, she's probably going to hate him too. Its not everyday you learn you've slept with your step brother. Avoiding the sex SEAL isn't as easy as Shay thought, especially when they share more than just family... Can they both get what they want? Hard to say, guess you'll have to read it
