After Broken: The Ever After Series

Rate this book
A single dad, broken by his wife’s death. A mother, once broken by the loss of her first love. Sometimes, it takes a second chance for a happily ever after. Liz  Seventeen years ago, we'd said goodbye. I learned to live without him. My happily ever after is more than most women dare to dream. A perfectly scripted life is complete with a comfortable marriage to a doctor, an expensive SUV adorned with children’s sports stickers, and a Pinterest-inspired, designer-decorated home. So, why did I just make an impossible promise to his daughter?

Sean I'm taking life one breath at a time. My wife is gone. Trying to outrun the pain, I face an uncertain future as a single father at a new hospital in a new city. Unless fate has a different idea. My here-and-now has collided with my past. I’ve just said hello to the woman I’ve never forgotten holding in my arms, devastated, as I told her goodbye seventeen years ago. Will she ever learn the secret that it wasn’t my choice?

Facing death changes everything.  It gives us the courage to follow our dreams.  It shows us the love we are willing to fight for.

The promise of a second chance lies before us. Is the collateral damage too much to risk pursuing the fairy-tale ending that unbreaks our broken hearts?

After Fallen, After Never, and After Broken are a series of connected characters and plots each with their own happily ever after. They can be read in any order.

Yikes.
This was a exercise in futility actually, almost from the get-go. What Sean did to Liz was unforgivable. I don't care what his reasoning was. It was shitty and it was wrong. It made a mockery out of the idea of soul mates and I knew if she wound up with him I wouldn't trust him or his supposed love for her. He was the love of her life, but she wasn't his.
How awful.
I was done with him in the first few chapters.

So, regardless of how it played out and who she chose in the end, I wasn't gonna give a damn.
I was never going to believe that Liz wasn't a consolation prize for Sean. A poor substitute. Consequently, I wasn't going to care if she chose Garrett either, because those two had about as much chemistry as a pile of sand.

I dislike love triangles as a rule. I have no respect for people who don't know their own minds enough to decide.
But it's way worse when 2/3 of the players are married to one another and one half of that couple is clueless. That makes the center of the triangle not only wishy-washy, but a genuine cheater.

YMMV, but in my mind, the question of cheating is subjective. There is a difference between the obligation of fidelity to a significant other and a vow of fidelity to a spouse taken before witnesses. When someone is married and hung up on someone outside the marriage, it is absolutely cheating. There is no distinction between 'emotional' or 'physical' cheating when a person is legally bound by marriage vows. If you're looking for something with someone other than your spouse, it doesn't matter what need you're trying to fulfill, you're cheating. And Liz had cheated the entirety of her 16 year marriage.

But what really sucked about it was she carried a torch for a guy who was The One. They'd had it all, love, friendship, that once-in-a-lifetime connection with a life partner people dream about. And then he met and literally fell for someone else while she watched - while they were on a date. As disheartening as that is for any romance reader aside, the fact is he didn't deserve her undying love and was a selfish bastard for even invading her space again.
That said, she was an idiot with no sense of self-preservation for allowing him to use her to assuage his grief.

I see no point to this book. Why write a story like this? Martyr complex much?
This wasn't inspirational, it wasn't empowering...it wasn't even particularly exciting. The ending was anticlimactic and I dislike the feeling of ambiguity it left me.

One last thing.
When a writer chooses to post their work, they should be prepared for all sorts of feedback. To leave a message that essentially states that nothing less than positive words are welcome is seriously bad form. The purpose of reviews is to inform other readers, and it is my right to call it as I see it. I've earned it, seeing as I paid to read it with actual money I WORK for.

I will not be told by anyone - particularly a writer - that I can't say what's on my mind in a review. They put the book out there, and it's fair game, baby. I don't kiss anybody's arse, I don't give two shites who they think they are.

Because of that message tucked in the writer's notes, I will not be reading further work by her.

I don't recommend this, and the safety gals should definitely give it a wide berth.

I hated both H and h! What a miserable couple. Elizabeth cheated on her loving husband and family for 17 years over a man who chose someone else over her. Her husband loved her, he loved their life and family and she was willing to throw it over for a man who had no compunction in leaving her and marrying someone else. And, when that woman died, he had no problems flirting with her, having an emotional affair. The poor husband, Garrett and the h’s children were just afterthoughts in Elizabeth’s and Liz’s relationships.

What really pissed me off was she didn’t want Garrett to call her Elizabeth as that was “reserved only for Sean,” but Sean could call her “Liz.”

My review must have been for the authors alternate ending to this book. Please disregard first review.
I still HATE this plot. It is not a feel good read. It’s a torturous read.

A couple attend a a benefit for cancer. h watches as her bf fall for another women at first sight. The h finds the ring he gets to propose to OW. Turns out ow has cancer but is in remission ow tells H he gives her hope. He decides OW deserves his love more than h Are we supposed to believe the H has a savior complex? After Ow dies after 2 kids and 17 years he gets a new job and sees the married ex. She has 4 kids. We get inner thoughts of how much he loves his dead wife. But he sees ex and loves her still too. Now the supposed h of this story thinks she loves H and to hell with her husband and kids she gets a second chance. WTF
I originally gave this 3 stars but I’m taking two away for this authors messed up plot. There is an alternate ending if you subscribe. It would make me even more angry if I read that so no.

Ok so this is a hard review to write. It is well written so that is a plus. BUT, I don't know what Liz was thinking. Her ex left her for another woman; then 17 years later after having a dedicated husband and 3 kids the ex shows back up and wants her back. What one earth, HE LEFT YOU for someone else once but now that she's gone he wants his 2nd choice back!!!!

This author has the gift of making me feel like I am real life friends with the characters. Following Liz in her daily life, from her yoga mat to making family dinners, the author truly pulls you into her existence. The details she provides allows you to close your eyes and imagine that you are right there along side Liz on her journey. Can not wait for the next book to continue to explore this amazing and complex character. You will not find a more genuine, from the heart, make you want to read more book! We all need a Whitney Walker in our lives:)

What a wild ride!

I relived so many emotions from my life throughout this novel. Life has many bumps in the road...so many heartaches....so many hard decisions....
I have felt these heartaches in my life, but at 85, I can look back and see God's hand in each phase.
Thanks for another GREAT novel!

LOVE this book! It’s an uber fun, super relatable, sexy adventure. It’s full of love, laughs, dreams and important life decisions. I laughed, cried and thought about the power of love. Completely enjoyed every heart grabbing, thought provoking page! It ended exactly as I hoped it would!

I got this book because the 1st one was perfect I loved it. BUT I hated this one 😬 Their past doesn’t make sense to me and then she’s married to this man for so long and her past man comes back and she’s ready to throw away her long marriage just for him. The whole story just did not sit well with me. Honestly the writing was good and the book wasn’t bad I just think maybe it wasn’t for me. Now I know that second chance romance is not something I’m into.
