A two-week switch with my identical twin, Kellan. Should be a disaster. He plays soccer, I play video games. He wears gaudy Hawaiian t-shirts, I wear all black. He’s extroverted, I hate people. Most people, at least. His teammate, Max Carter, is an exception.
Max
Something strange is going on with Kellan. He’s different. Mysterious and unexpected. He even likes... video games? I’m not sure why the change has come over him, but I like it.
Noah
The more time I spend with Max, the guiltier I feel. He thinks I’m my twin, but I’m falling for him, hard. Eventually, the truth will come out. Will I get my happily ever after, or will it all come crashing down?
The Switch is the second book in The Dumonts, a steamy m/m contemporary romance series about four brothers finding love on and off the field. Contains a naked midnight run, a giant ball pit, a car wash in the middle of winter, and a happy ending for our two heroes.
Writing wise it was alright. But plot wise.... well... Let me started out with a, everyone in this book is an asshole. Maybe with the exception of poor Max. Talking about that, man the book resolution was just so weak. What got even more frustrating is that they seemed to get away with their shitty behavior with no repercussion. Especially Kellan. If the book is trying to sell us on a sequel around this family... well after this book I would never read one where Kellan is gonna be in it, much less as a main character.
I get that the book is supposed to be comedic with the gimmicky plot (which I will admit is why I read it) but the decision Noah made and how he lead Max on was absolutely despiteful.
And then there is poor Max who didn't deserve any of it, or should I rather say Max is way too good for Noah.
M.A. Gray is a new author for me and in the last few days I've been reading her books non-stop. Her two stand alones are great. This is the first book I read in this series (even though it's the 2nd book) because I love a good identity switch but the real Kellen pissed me off! I was so angry at how little he cared about his brother's Sebastian's soccer future, his team's chance at the Championship, and Noah's feelings. He was an a**hole. I'll be skipping his story completely. When he FINALLY showed back up he just acted like he did nothing wrong! If I was Noah or Sebastian I would have punched him straight in his smug face. Instead they hardly even get mad at him. The book lost stars just for that alone. I was so annoyed. I'll be going straight to Maverick's story and just hope Kellen is hardly mentioned. Loved Noah and Max.
I enjoyed it. I will say though that the idea of a car wash in February, wearing underwear, in INDIANA is ludicrous! Have you never been to the midwest in the winter? Seriously, not only would they not raise a penny because the size of the goods would be teeny tiny, but they would be 8n the E.R. with hypothermia. Please research before you write a scene like that. Being from Michigan, I had a very hard time getting through that.
Loved the story. I liked the characters, Noah and Max were perfect together. However, I just thought the plot would have been more believable if Max didn’t know that Kellan had a twin brother. Surely he would realise that Kellan suddenly not knowing how to pass a football would set alarm bells off. There is lots of drama and funny moments between the brothers. This series is definitely worth reading.
On one hand I actually liked the connection between max and Noah but I find the bedroom activities while lying to that extent to be cringe-y and borderline dub-con. I also found the entire premise absolutely ridiculous and a less enjoyable knock off of the movie she’s the man. I absolutely hated kellen all the time and Sebastian most of the time. Poor max and Noah both deserved better.
I liked this so much more than I expected to. This is not usually my kind of trope. But I really liked this book. I wish the ending would have been more convincing. It just felt a bit rush and sudden for me. Their were also some aspects of the characters I’m kinda sad didn’t get explored much more, but overall it was a good read.
I LOVED this so much, how is it possible that it’s so much better than the first book. Max and Noah were perfect. I can’t lie I cringed when Max called Kellan’s name during sexy times. And the ending felt a tad incomplete. I needed an epilogue so badly. And even with those minor flaws I thought it was a stellar read!!!
