Here is the first in-depth probing into the rise of a man who is arguably, says the author, the first African American in a position of national prominence that the general public is ready to judge on merit alone. Born in Harlem, Powell has been a central player in recent foreign affairs as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Photographs.

I learned somewhat about how government works. However, I didn't really learn much about Powell's personal life. This book is outdated; it ended at the end of "Deseret Storm" when the first George Bush was President.
