When he locks lips with the island's newest resident during a rescue, he feels an undeniable spark that he can't ignore—no matter how hard he tries. I always enjoy my visits to Gansett Island and to a degree that still stands as we catch up with familiar faces and see how life is treating them. But generally the latest offerings have become repetitive, lacking the spark and humour which they once brought in spades and once again that’s the case here because whilst I liked Mason and Jordan together, overall they lacked depth and development, and were given an equally underdeveloped story.

Sadly one for the unmemorable pile, aside of the fact that you can’t fail to forget how tall Mason is given the constant reminders we were gifted and there’s absolutely no forgetting Jordan’s BFF and unlikeable judgemental harpy, Gigi—right now I can’t even entertain how she could be turned around.

Hopefully Blackout After Dark will set things back on track.

A hot fire chief who hasn't had the best luck with lady love -- yet! Marie Force is at her best once again with another fabulous addition to the Gansett Island series. A match-up between Mason and Jordan is more than I could have hoped. They are adorable together and such a fun couple to watch as the match strikes and the flames burn. Some ups, some downs, and a lot of lovin'.

And, of course, readers can expect to attend a gathering of old friends with Mac at the helm -- and Maddie taking control. You're going to love, laugh, shed a tear or two, and just plain ole love this book from start to finish. Every time I make a trip to Gansett Island I don't think it can get any better than the last, but I'm always wrong. These characters are under my skin and I think they plan on staying there for a long, long time -- like forever!

Expect some surprises -- you know there are always a few uncovered with each trip. And believe me, our beloved author won't disappoint.

Coming soon -- so don't forget to put it on your list of TBRs.

3.0 stars. Contrary to popular reviews this one didn't do it for me. Really liked Mason, but didn't care for Jordan. The story leaned towards lame and rushed and that's not something I've ever thought of this series. This is book 22 and fingers crossed it's not starting to lose its shine. Wasn't too thrilled with the reality show idea either. Love this author, and hoping this series doesn't steer too far off course in the future. Happy the next book is a re-visit with the group. Looking forward to it.

Saddens me

Jordan and Mason’s story is definitely lacking the essence of the stories I loved about Gansett Island. Sad as I am I think it is time to say goodbye with warm fond memories and a final epilogue to an amazing run. Ms. Force is too good at her craft to allow mediocrity to enter and leave us her fans a little disappointed. Price is important to me and having these books going up and up is very off putting....3⭐️⭐️⭐️Stars is all I can muster.

Gansett, firefighters and twins, oh my!

Jordan and Mason are such opposites, they really shouldn’t work... but damn, the sparks flying in this book aren’t only setting fire to the roof! Good thing Mason is a fireman.

I love when we get to go back to Gansett in Marie Force’s books, we get to visit old friends and family. Each book gives a catch up with some characters, and a hint towards future events. But this story being about the second half of an identical set of twins, I knew it would be something special.

I love how Jordan and Nikki are together, they really only had each other and their grandmother. But that Nikki’s fiancé, Riley, thinks absolutely nothing of including Jordan in activities and having her stay, that he does it for both women’s sake, is that extra piece. And after what we saw Jordan go through in her marriage during Nikki’s story, I think Riley and the other men on Gansett really make Jordan see that not all men are scum.

Reality TV star Jordan Stokes has had a rough time with her ex and has come to stay with her twin sister on Gansett Island and after taking a sleeping pill she awakes in the arms of the town Fire Chief Mason Johns and when he has to give her mouth to mouth during an asthma attack sparks, weirdly ignite.

They start to hang out together but the lines blur, he knows she will go back home, she knows she will go back home, but they are just drawn to one another. She could be the one, he could be her one but how would it work. Would she stay? Would he leave to be with her?

I love this series but the later books, I been reading out of order, kind of lose A LOT with the catching up of characters from earlier books. It would be fine if it had to do with the story but sometimes it is just thrown in. Taking away from the story.

While on a mountain bike ride, Gansett Island Fire Chief Mason Johns observes smoke and flames coming from a nearby house. Mason rescues reality TV-star Jordan Stokes from a fire in her grandmother’s home. Something unusual passes between the couple when Mason performs mouth- to- mouth resuscitation on Jordan. Marie Force gives Mason and Jordan an immediate, almost magical connection and this drew me into the story immediately.
Mason Johns and Jordan Stokes have been featured in other storylines in the series. I was intrigued by the pairing of the tall, workaholic, sexy fire chief with the reality TV-star.
During the summer months, the island is invaded by tourists and summer residents which tax the island’s police and fire departments. The added work-related stress adds to Mason’s workload. As a recovering alcoholic, he struggles with his sobriety every day. To keep himself on track he chooses to attend daily AA meetings with Quinn and Mallory (Light After Dark) and has a rigorous exercise program. I am glad that Marie Force continued the Mason, Quinn and Mallory storyline in this novel. The three friends understand the challenges of staying sober and support each other.
Jordan Stokes has escaped to her family’s home on Gansett Island. Her life is a nightmare. Brendan, her rapper husband, released a video of the two of them having sex. Brendan’s fans blame her for his arrest for domestic abuse, her reality TV show is in limbo and Brendan is refusing to sign divorce papers. She’s not looking for a relationship as her life is based in Los Angeles. Marie Force provides more details about Nikki and Jordan’s complicated childhood in this story—this helped me understand Jordan’s struggles.
Rescue After Dark is a fast-paced character driven novel with all the feels. Mason and Jordan’s journey is emotional and heart breaking at times. I loved the connection between the sexy fire fighter and the reality TV star and was cheering for them from the beginning of the book. Loved that the couple brought out the best in each other. Maintaining sobriety, dealing with stress and domestic abuse are woven into both this novel. Mac McCarthy is coping with work related stress and family pressures, too. Mac and Maddie McCarthy, Luke and Sydney Harris and Big Mac and Ned are featured in the story.
If you are looking for a feel good read that’s all about love, friendship and second chances – then Rescue after Dark is the perfect book for you!

With each story the author continues to whisk us away to a happy place with her terrific storytelling. Mason and Jordan’s story is one of my favorites of this series. Drama and suspense mixed with an undeniable attraction make this one book not to miss. In fact I didn’t want this story to end and wished it was longer. Cannot wait for more of this series.

I've been on the Gansett Island since 2012. Fell in love with the island, the residents and anyone else who came and settled on the island. I love this ride and will continue to love it as the island grows.

This series as a whole is captivating, addictive, and sexy. It's a homecoming feeling with every page you turn.

While I do love this series, I mean twenty two books, you sort of have to... Rescue After Dark isn't my favorite.

LIKES

* Mason Johns is a character we've seen in glimpses, so his story was not just craved, it was overdue. It was definitely worth the wait to see him get his happily ever after.

* Part of loving this series is catching up with character favorites. You see how Mason and friends have forged such bond. I especially love the trio friendship with Mallory and Quinn.

*Love, LOVE the chemistry between Mason and Jordan. They're funny, witty and their banter was refreshing. I love that they take a chance despite their woes with romance.

DISLIKES ...What I could do without...

* Some parts of the story felt a little rushed. I wanted a little more time with Mason and Jordan. A little more heart to their heat.

* Some of the sexy times were a little too exaggerating.

* Repetitive. A specific couple has been experiencing the same issue for about two books in. This has been stretched out and I really think we can move from it.

What I'm hoping to see...

* Baby boom. BABY!! BOOM!! We're in the middle of the biggest familial baby boom and I'm here for it. I want to see these folks become first time parents. I want to see how the whole clan explodes with little feet and giggles.

* Some couples need to get married already. Jump the broom. Tie that knot. Then get on the baby train too.

Overall, I did enjoy the book and will faithfully continue to read them. I'm anxiously waiting for the next installment. A three star read is still a good book... Read for the happy sailing.

It pains me to give this book 2 stars, but I just didn't like it as much as I'd hoped.

Overall the Gansett Island series has been very enjoyable for me! I think out of 20 books in this series I've only give 2 stars to a few with a majority of them being 3-4 stars. I had high hopes for this one, but I just didn't connect to Mason or Jordan. Mason is the local fire chief and Jordan is the twin sister of Nikki. Jordan is a famous actress on a reality tv series who has left her husband due to him being a major dick. He leaked a sex tape and then physically abused Jordan putting her in the hospital. So, TW for abusive spouse although there isn't any graphic violence depicted in this novel.

Besides not connecting to the characters, I just found this book a bit choppy. It didn't flow as well as some of the other novels for me. I didn't like that Jordan told Mason from the beginning that she was still married so didn't want anything to move too quickly but then on like a 2nd date lays naked on his couch and then proceeds to rock his world. Ooookay. Yep, that matches what you just said like 4 pages before. Also, I didn't like that *spoiler* at the end Jordan decides to bring her reality show to the island. Seriously? Part of the charm of the place was the fun feel of the town away from the spotlight and like a hidden gem. I just thought that twist ruined the overall feel of these books.

Anyhoo...there were glimpses of other favorite characters in this book so I liked that - hence the 2 star rating. But, yeah, this one just wasn't the best. Maybe it's a sign it's time to wrap up the 20 book haul and call it good. I know there's another novel released so I may check that out sometime...

I'm such a fan of Marie Force. But something is changing in the recent books. They feel "short". The depth of character and relationship isn't there. I pretty much know what is going to happen. The stories follow the same pattern and are becoming repetitive. It's disappointing to me because Gansett, Butler Vermont and Treading water were some of my favorite series of all time. I would become thoroughly engrossed in Marie's books. Gansett books are starting to feel like a short story. Butler books are too. I'm disappointed and it took me a few books to finally say so. I'm bummed. I will continue to read her books, but I've found that when they arrive I don't start reading immediately like I use to. I want the "old" style Marie stories back - angst, character depth, engrossing, exciting, unpredictable. I never thought I'd say this but I'm tired of Mac and Maddie. There story seems to repeat and repeat and repeat itself in every book. Let's hear from other couples. Honestly we don't need a lot of other couples brought in and we don't need history lessons of characters in each book. It's a series. If the reader doesn't know the story - then that's their problem. I feel like the recent books are 1 - history lesson of the characters that do appear (Mac and Maddie) 2 - TOOO much Mac and Maddie 3- same story different couple. 4 - RUSHED! My thoughts break my heart because I love the series and the characters. But the stories aren't the same.

I am a huge fan, but this one didn't quite do it for me. One of the things I've always loved about the Gansett series is the interaction of the characters. It has always felt like coming home for a reunion. That feeling, for me, was missing. Some previous characters were not at all mentioned, others were just sort of name dropped into the story, but not really contributing to the storyline. I wondered as I read if the series and the number of characters has just gotten too big to pull off the sense of family and closeness successfully. I also wondered if Jordan is the identical twin to someone who already lives on the island, why tourists didn't mistake the two. Why wasn't there a history of Jordan sightings? She was also gluten free, but ate pizza, nibbled on crackers, etc.

This book...had issues. All the women were extremely weak & whiny for at least the first 50% of the book. The writing seemed really clunky to me in this one for some reason. You knew what the “crisis” was going to be from page 1. Is it bad to say that I was glad when it was over? I like this series so much that I hope this one was an anomaly. Fingers crossed.

Absolutely outstanding loved this story of Mason and Jordan from start to finish plus it was amazing to catch up with all the regulars of Gansett Island.

Jordan came to the island to get away from her abusive husband and to see her twin sister Nikki. One night Jordan fell asleep on the couch. While she was sleeping the roof of the house caught fire only the smoke was seen by fire chief Mason. As he was coming to the rescue he fell off his bike and dislocated his elbow and but his head. Mason never thought about his injury when he went into the house and saved jordan.

Jordan was barely breathing and mason was giving her mouth to mouth but Jordan thought he was kissing her. Jordan had a asthma attack due to the smoke she inhaled. When she was in the hospital Mason stayed by her side and when she woke up and seen him you could see the connection they had. Mason was hungry and asked Jordan of she would like something to eat.

Their relationship was slowly getting off the ground when Jordan was summoned back to LA for a meeting with her production company about her tv show with Gigi. While in LA at the meeting she gets a call from Reily saying that her husband has a gun to Nikki and her Grandmothers head demanding to see Jordan but she wasn't there. Jordan got on the plane back to Gansett and was picked up by Mason at the airport.

I love Evelyn Jordan and Nikki's grandmother for what she said to Nikki to go and get the cast iron skillet from the kitchen and hit Brendan over the head with it. She did and he fell to the ground Nikki then went out and told them to arrest him. He ended up at the clinic with a fractured skull. Jordan went to see him and she was no holding anything back.

They can’t all be my favorite...

Jordan Stokes (Nikki’s twin sister) was introduced a few books back when she decided to go back to her husband Brendan/Zane after he released a sex video of them. Nikki told her she was nuts but stayed and met Riley. Jordan is back on Gansett, yep it was a mistake, Zane almost killed her, and she has divorce papers waiting to be served as soon as his butt is out of rehab.

Somehow a fire gets started at the house with Jordan inside. Fire Chief Mason John’s happens to be dirt bike riding and sees the fire from a distance. He saves Jordan who is having a massive asthma attack. Ding ding ding, Ring ring ring go the bells between these two.

Here is where I give this story 3 ***. Jordan hasn’t even served Zane with divorce papers, he is the only man she has ever been with and on the second day of knowing Mason she strips naked on the couch waiting for him to change clothes. The chemistry was real but the way they jumped into this relationship was not. Jordan was either demure or a real house wife from Beverly Hills.

The save to this book were the relationships of: Mason with Mallory and Quinn through AA meeting. The working relationship with Police Chief Blaine (made me want to go back and read Blaine and Tiffany’s book again). Mac and Maddie attempting abstinence at the tail end of her pregnancy with the twins. The introduction of Gigi; Jordan’s friend, lawyer and reality TV show partner, now moving to Gansett Island. Sydney gives us a big scare.

It’s great to love each book in this series, this wasn’t one of mine.

Returning to Gansett I was thrilled to see Mason get his HEA. Par for the course though the road had a few bumps, literally. Mason meets Jordan when he rescues her from a fire and immediately has a different experience with his CPR.

Mason and Jordan are both a bit gun shy, but very open about concerns. For the first time, communication is not the problem. In fact, their problems seem very easily fixed though not without a few tense moments. The MVP for me in this story though was Nikki and Evelyn. Those two women were some cool cucumbers. We met Gigi and she sounds like a hoot. I can’t wait to see what develops with her and their show being on the island.

As with all Gansett stories we see how several couples and characters are doing. Sydney about broke all of our hearts, Mac and Maddie are still have a rough time, but the support from this group was beautiful and sweet. Big Mac is still one of my favorites ever and Blaine continues to be a great character, police chief and family man.

This is a fun series that has vivid characters full of fun light hearted matters and real world problems. This story looked at the long term battle of alcoholism with the importance of support networks and domestic violence situations with the emotional turmoil that accompanies it. A good great and a great series.

Gansett Island is one of my favorite series to read. It’s a sure read and I know I’ll come away happy, satisfied, and longing for more. Unfortunately, Rescue After Dark didn’t give me that “happy after reading” feeling I get after reading a Gansett book. We have had glimpses of Fire Chief Mason Johns in previous stories and I eagerly awaited his own HEA story. I enjoyed the chemistry between Mason and Jordan. They were funny and had great banter. I also loved that despite both of them having had past failures in relationships, they still took a chance on each other without an emotional back and forth. Sadly, this story just lacked something for me, be it content or character development, I can’t put my finger on it. There were plenty of sexy times, which the Gansett Island books are full of, but I missed the character depth and relationship growth. Some secondary characters were more prominent in this story that we only get glimpses of in the past after their own stories (Mallory, Quinn, Blaine) so I enjoyed reading more of them. We were introduced to a few members of the fire department. Fans of the series will enjoy this read and I look forward to the next installment in the series.

I love my visits to Gansett Island because it’s great meeting new characters as well as catching up with old friends. This is Jordan and Mason’s story and it’s as captivating as all the previous books.
Reality star Jordan Stokes is visiting her twin sister on Gansett Island, she is trying to escape social media and her ex who seems determined to drag her name through the mud.
Local fire chief Mason Johns is out on a bike ride when he spots smoke coming from a nearby house and he jumps right into firefighter mode and rescues Jordon from the flames in her grandmothers home. Mouth to mouth resuscitation is needed snd that leads to something very special for this couple but will Jordan want to make her home on the Island and will Mason open up and confide in Jordon with the daemons he fights on a daily basis .......
I loved everything about this book, Jordan and Mason fit in perfectly with previous characters who I have come to class as close friends. Every visit touches mt heart and I really can’t get enough of the wonderful McCarthy family and their partners and friends. Looking forward to more from Gansett Island in the future.

Seeing a new Gansett Island book gets endorphins juice flowing through the body. In this story Mason the fire chief finally gets his HEA. We first got to know him in the ("The light after dark book)". Mason sets out on his bike one evening only to see smoke coming from one of the homes. He gets to the house in time to save Jordan Stokes (twin of heroine Niki in Mine after dark). Jordan has been through alot and has come to the island to spend time with her sister after been through an abusive relationship with her soon to be ex husband. And so begins this storyline where Mason gets to the home in time to safe Jordan and instantly becomes enamored with her. Now to be honest am not nuts about insta love but Ms. Force has a way to make insta believable. It is always a pleasure meeting up with past couples of course every Gansett book would not be complete without Mac and Maddie. The first couple of the series. We get some excitement so drama and a somewhat substoryline I did not see coming.

Rescue After Dark brings readers back to Gansett Island for book 22 in Ms Force's fantastic Gansett Island Series and introduces Fire Chief Mason Johns and reality TV star Jordan Stokes.

And it really was a delightful read, that grabbed me from the very first page, and never let go. As Mason rescues Jordan from a fire, and the sparks begin to fly, and I loved how the couple's relationship developed, the easy banter they shared, and the level of comfort they found in each other pretty much from the get go.

Plus with lots of catch-up from familiar faces, including Mac and Maddie, Mallory and Quinn, and Jordan's twin sister Nikki and fiancé Riley along with a few shocks, tears, and laughs. This really was the perfect feel-good romance, and this series just seems to get better and better no matter how many new characters are introduced.

Would happily recommend, and can't wait for book 23! 🙂

Rescue After Dark is book 22 in the Gansett Island series. It's been five months since the last instalment and it couldn't have come at a better time. RAD finds Fire Chief Mason Johns finally getting his HEA. Nothing seems to comes easy for him but rest assured it all works out in the end.

As always Marie includes continuing story lines on many of the other characters we've come to know and love. If you haven't started the series at the beginning do yourself a favor. I am sure you will want to live there as much as I do. I especially fell in love with this series because the featured couples are more like real life, not perfect, not all young, some struggling with issues familiar to us all. It will be a long nine months till the next instalment, Blackout After Dark but I can't wait. It gives you lots of time to start the series if you haven't already.

It was great to be back on Gansett Island again.
Jordon Stokes is the twin sister of Nikki who is engaged to Riley McCarthy. She has come home to Gansett to get away from her abusive husband.
She is spending the night alone at her sister's house when a small fire breaks out. Fire Chief Mason Johns sees the fire from a distance and goes to help put it out. He gets Jordan out out of the fire as she is having an asthma attack. He gets her to the hospital and spends the night making sure she is ok. This is where things become hot between them. They fall hard for each other but time is short because Jordan has to go back to California for her job. She gets her lawyer Gigi to try to get her out of her contract so she can go back to Gansett. She is also looking for her husband to serve him divorce papers. He seems to be in hiding.
I really enjoyed the way Marie brought Mac and Maddie, Quinn and Mallory and others into the story.
You will not be able to put this book down any more than all the Gansett books. I loved it and highly recommend you read it.
