This book is meant for 7-12, and I read it (even though I'm 16) because most MG books turn out to be my favourites, and I decided to try this book after I saw that it was almost sold out at Bookfest.
This book is, clearly, not one of my faves.
It was slow and I felt like so many things were too on the nose. I understand that this is a middle grade book and that this genre shapes readers with predictable plot twist and characters who don't know much about the way of the world, so the reader can discover the mysteries of both the real world, and the world the author has crafted, but the trick is to do it in a way that doesn't seem obnoxious. Rick Riordan is a great example of a MG writer who doesn't treat the young reader as an infant because middle graders are, in fact, very smart.
While I could shake this off and act like it didn't happen if it weren't for the relationships...
Anyway, I don't know if I'll read the other books
