Almost three thousand years after an extinction level event on Earth, mankind seeks to regain its former glory, in a new world where magic and technology collide.

As the aftermath of the war against Avalon settles, and life in the lands of Sparo return to a semblance of order, the matron of the library, Emily, also known lovingly as the Queen of the Scrolls, decides it is time for her to return home.

It was revealed in the war that Emily possessed magic, and had come from lands faraway to observe the people of Sparo and document their culture as the First Seeker of her Sect. Her homeland, New Cali, lay far to the south beyond the Fringe and out into the Uninhabitable Lands.

The diminutive librarian had determined that Sparo had surpassed New Cali in both knowledge and technology, even though they were still a people capable of great violence, and thus it was time that the two people met, to share their cultures and knowledge with each other.

An expedition is arranged, led by the Great Mother of the Mountain Gypsies, Laney of Wexbury. Laney faces her greatest challenge to date while confronting dark buried within her that is fighting to get out.

Old and new enemies abound, and if she survives what is in store for her, Laney will never be the same again.

This one was a trip. I can't wait for the next adventure to see how Laney uses her new abilities and I just want her to keep growing and growing. But, I really hope for more of Celeste and her and their family. Lady Margaret being Prime Techromancer and all. I want all of that.

Well *expletive*

The world of the Techromancy Scrolls grows bigger with every book and this one has been an amazing read. Highs and lows abound concerning this story, the little Herder girl from Wexbury and her family. While some elements could have been explored more, the adventure keeps you engaged and wanting more.

I really enjoy meeting up with Laney and her ‘family’ again, but I found the book had a bit too much ‘explaining and describing’, it seemed to take quite a while to get anywhere.
Once the main story got going I’m afraid the author did irritated me a little;

When they get to ’New Cali’ there were also a few more inconsistencies, although their time there did include the most interesting section of the story.
This was a pleasant enough read, apart from the very last paragraph and if possible I would have given 3.5 stars.

Improvements on how repetitions/reflections are being handled is still evident and I am happy about that since that encourages me to seek the next in series rather than take a break. That said, I think a break is still needed.
This story has ascended our heroine to a demigod and with the cliffhanging ending I am intrigued to know what's next.

There is certainly no end to the adventures of Laney Herder, Adept, wife, mother, Templar Knight, and Great Mother and Co ruler of Sparo. The adventures continue when Emily reveals that she is from a colony called New Cali, that survived after the disaster and managed to raise a society of knowledge Seekers. These people have a Mind gift that allows them to retain the information they read and pass it along to the next generation. It sounds idyllic - until they are shot out of the sky by a contraption by Aelwyn and discover that a new goddess Eris has taken over. She converts all or destroys them with her Mind Gift. Having to battle these people is a new frontier for Laney, but the threats against those she loves bring a new type of anger and darkness into Laneys heart that she is trying to understand. Trying to maintain her sense of self and control is difficult with those she is battling, and this tale continues that battle within. Also, I thought this was the last one but he has one more...unfair sir! Let me be free!! And also, thank you.

The ever growing family and titles. Our dear Laney, what else can happen to her that has not already happened? on the edge of my seat/bed with some of the great battles and can't believe just how much damage and destruction greed and power can do.

Excited for the next book, where I hope that all of Laney's sacrifices pay off and we get peace? One can only hope.

Read via Audible: A penultimate adventure of our favorite chicken herder who would be Queen. Off two the scorching lands of New Cali to reunite her step mother with her people. But an attack from an old enemy and a new Goddess will hinder her and her family's quest. Action and adventure abound in the latest adventure of Laney.

I was on this book as soon as it was out on Audible. More platypus goodness as the story get right into the action. It moved really quickly and the bad guy was really nasty. I hope the ones that got away will finally get their comeuppance.

A fine conclusion
There was an odd interlude for a few days just before the resolution where all the action takes place out of sight. You know that big events are in motion, but the point of view stays with the main character who is chained to a wall.
There is also one of the most blatant examples of characters knowing it's a trap and blithely strolling right on in. All the stories of public executions for heretics and bodies on pikes were just not obvious enough. I would have been pulling my hair out if I'd cared more.
