Teach Me New Tricks is a well written older man/younger woman romance story with instant attraction, great banter, drama, twists, tragedy, and steamy scenes. Although it took me several chapters before I got into the story, I did enjoy this book. My only complaint about this book, is that the story just seemed to take forever to get through. With more than 60+ chapters, I think the story could have been told in half the amount of chapters.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Enjoyable story about a young professor who falls for her older widowed student. Christopher and Leila are a sweet couple, but all the haggling on her side over should she or shouldn't she got annoying. Christopher's teenage son also got on my nerves, and I wanted to reach into the book and smack him quite often. If anything I felt the book dragged on too much. The same ending could have been achieved with less chapters
I loved Christopher and Leila's story. They were so likable and their chemistry was explosive. He's a widower going through a rough patch with his son so they decide to start over in Texas. He retired early after selling his successful real estate business. He meets Leila when he takes a thre e week college course that she teaches. Their attraction is strong but there is a no dating rule between professors and students. The story is well written with strong, well defined characters. The story is long and probably could have accomplished the same with fewer chapters, but over all it was an entertaining story.
He’s a single father and moves so that he and his son can try to start over from their grief. He takes a course from the college and when he sees his professor he’s surprised by the feeling that he feels. He thought they were dead but he feels all kinds of emotions looking at her. His professor has always been professional but when her new student looks at her she realizes that this could be trouble. When they talk and the attention goes both ways will they see if a relationship is possible? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Another amazing hit from Ali Parker that will definitely rock your world!!! Christopher Evans had his world turned upside down when his wife died a year ago in a car accident and is now raising his grieving and distant sixteen year old son. Moving from Minnesota to Texas hoping for a fresh start for him and his son looking for answers of a possible afterlife for his wife. Leila loves her job as a professor teaching Greek Mythology, her best friend Kammi and has no social life to speak of. When Christopher walks Leila's class the attraction is instant sparks but teacher/student relationships are a sticky situation and Leila it's a good girl. That is until she has a romp in the library with Christopher....ohhhhhhh. Christopher has a lot on his plate with his son already and now his performance has been caught on tape with a possibility of being expelled and Lelia being fired. Christopher and Leila are falling hard but with a lack of communication and threats from the Dean their trust is tarnished causing undo hurt. The hurt doesn't stop them from doing anything for love by taking risks without the other knowing. Fighting for the one they love gets more complicated by a big surprise. Can they make it through teenage angst, a teacher/student scandal and a whole lot of chemistry?? Beautiful characters that complete each other and true to life personalities. A MUST READ!!! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and purchased a copy for my favorites collection. Looking forward for more from Ali Parker....maybe Kammie will get tamed.
This is a well written book with strong, well developed characters and an interesting and emotional story line. It's the heartfelt story with Christopher,a widower and his sixteen year old son trying to move forward after their grief and pain of loosing his wife and Olin's mother in a tragic accident. It's also a story with Leila,a professor at the college he takes a course at with her as his teacher. There's so much happening , so many emotions , so much anxiety , drama , conflicts and pain coming through the pages. The author does a fantastic job bringing the story to life with her vividly painted scenes. She gives them an instant attraction , sizzling passion and a hot and steamy romance. It's told in the dual POV , showing both of their struggles and the depth of their feelings. The supporting characters help to bring the story around. It's a true to life scenario and I enjoyed reading and would highly recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Christopher and Leila. Christopher is a widower and the father of a 16 year old son Olin. Christopher is now retired and decided to move him and Olin to Texas for a new start. Christopher is struggling with trying to connect with Olin and Olin is rebelling. When Christopher decides to attend a class at the local university, he meets Leila, a professor of Greek mythology. Christopher is very attracted to Leila, but she can't date her student, but they have a connection and they can't help getting involved. Leila is scared she could lose her job and Christopher is having more problems with Olin that cause problems with his new relationship. This was an emotional read. I enjoyed this story, i loved how Christopher was trying to get closer to his son and how he wanted to be with Leila. Leila was scared she was going to be left alone and was scared she was going to get hurt. i loved their connection and thought they were good for each other. Well done.
A wealthy driven widower moved to his dream house after retiring at 44 years old. His loving but lonely wife had died of cancer, leaving him full of sad regrets and their 16-year old son grieving and embittered. His son was at a difficult teenage stage and shut him out. Feeling at a loose end, he decided to take a three-week intense class on Greek mythology. That turned out to be the best decision, in some ways, although he did not find the answers to his desire to find out more about the possibility of his wife going to Heaven, he met a woman who caught his interest in every way. Was there a second chance? I loved the story but realised, once again, how often we humans muddy the waters through our disobedience to God. The next part of the story could be predictibly enjoyable and satisfying, meeting his, her, and his son's greatest needs in a complex roundabout manner. Perhaps God had a hand in it after all? Well done Ali Parker! Your stories are always a treat.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Christopher and Leila are student and professor who meet and carry out an affair when he decides to go back to school. I liked this book, except all the times Leila was so undecided about what she wanted in her life. Christopher was already established and he was retired and older, he had the luxury of knowing what he wanted and would do what needed to be done to get it. Leila wanted him but also couldn't be honest about that. The conflicts in this book could have been resolved with good old fashioned communication. Be advised that Christopher has a teenager and he will try your patience as the reader, but he got it together in the end.It was an HEA and no cliffhanger. It's not a quick read and some parts are slow. Leila's best friend is hilarious and should have her own book!!
Christopher and Leila will have you reliving your school experiences in this charming story. Christopher is a single father with a teenage son. They have hit a rough patch and he can’t seem to reach his son moving to Texas was supposed to be a fresh start for the both of them. When Christopher signs up for a class he wasn’t expecting the professor to be as captivating as she was and definitely not some one that would stir his blood. Leila is a dedicated professor who takes pride in her job. Dating a student can lead to destructive ends and Christopher is definitely trouble because she is attracted to him and if word got out about the two, she could lose her job. Do they take the risk for their hearts desire, and will this lead to a happily ever after? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
After loosing his wife in a horrible auto accident Christopher is looking to move forward. Uprooting him and his teenage son from Minnesota to Texas he does just that. Able to retire at age forty four he is looking to keep himself busy. He decides college is the best option. Getting there in the middle of winter doesn't leave many options. He takes a 3 week Greek Mythology class. And sees her for the first time. Leila is a young professor. Just thirty three. Blond and curvy and beautiful. And absolutely loves her job. Well teaching about Greek Mythology something she loves. Until he walks into class. This book was an okay read. I thought it rattled on a bit much.
A wonderful tale about finding love wonderful tale about finding love
Leila, a Greek Mythology professor, meets Christopher, a recent widower and young retiree, in her mini-mester class where he is a student. As the story progresses attraction strikes, doubt rules, and a moment thought private could ruin it all. Ali Parker’s Teach Me New Tricks is a wonderful tale about finding love after tragedy, the rocky road of life, and new beginnings. The way she led them through the highs and lows drew me in from the start.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Teach Me New Tricks is a story of an older man who is a widower to a sixteen year old son and a younger woman who happens to be his teacher.
There is a strong attraction between Christopher and Leila and although their chemistry is strong it's techincally against the dean's policy for fraternization.
It was a good plot but there are many plot twists and was quite a lengthy read. It could have been told in a shorter novel with less drama.
I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Three and a half stars.
Leila was a professor as the local University and had worked hard to get where she was. Christopher was a billionaire and had just moved to the area with his teenage son his wife had died a year ago and he felt they needed a new start. His son was not happy about the move but what could he do he was only 16. Christopher enrolls in a university course but thing don't always go to plan. So funny bits and some hot passion will Christopher finish his course or will he be expelled and Leila lose her job you will have to read this brilliant book for yourself i highly recommend it
Loved the chemistry in this story. All parties fit together well. Leila and Christopher were a good couple together. They made each other. I loved the humor and seriousness they had between them. Although I couldn’t understand Christopher going to Niagara Falls and leaving his 16 year old son home alone after his issues. The deal with Alan was quite a surprise to me. Definitely didn’t see that coming. All in all quite an enjoyable story Thank You for such a great read!
This was a good read. Christopher and his son have moved. They are trying to start over since the death of the wife/mother. Christopher decides to take a class and falls for the teacher Leila. This becomes a problem since teacher student relationships are forbidden. They then have to decide if it's worth it. The good news is that like in all Ali's books they get their happy ending.
Amazing book of getting over loss and trying to find your way. The story of Christopher as a widower and his son Olin will give you the feels. Leila Bell is a no nonsense Professor but when she meets Christopher in her class it seems as all bets may be off. Kudos to Ali for touching on these subjects and giving us an incredible story.
absolutely page gripping i had to download all the books and i read in all in one go. it's a really good series i like it because in the 3rd book even though their secrets are out their love was strong enough to withdraw all of that havoc and chaos because it's what they wanted and its how they truly felt for one another
Somehow in the description I missed that this wasn't Chris and Leila's full story. So the end was a bit annoying. But like Ali's other books I enjoyed the realism, the complicated characters and the laugh out loud moments. Now on to part 2
Oh I just loved Leila and Christopher story and I can't forget his son Olin!! They had many optical in there way but they over came than and became a family!! I would recommend this book to anyone!
Oh, my word! This book! I haven’t been on such an emotional roller coaster in a long while! It is rare that an author brings such real characters to life! Real problems that real people face is rarely melted into a romance!
I absolutely loved this book. The ups and downs had me hooked. I cried, screamed through this amazing story of live, sadness and heartbreak. A most definitely must read. Thank you Ali Parker
It was an easy book to get into right away. I really enjoyed that it happened in MN and a move to Conroe,TX. We wintered there. I like reading books of places I have been.
