Rookie Green Lantern Sojourner “Jo” Mullein’s investigation of the first murder in 500 years hits a snag when the murderer is murdered. Whatever’s going on, it’s something to do with Switchoff, a highly illegal genetic cocktail that restores dangerous feelings to the emotionless citizens of the City Enduring...
This is the best comic out right now. Everything about it is gorgeous. The writing style, the characters, the art (omg the art), the colors, down the perspective of some of the panels and the damned font. How Young Animal snagged Jemisin, I don't know, but good god I'm so glad they did. Please let Jemisin and Simone write all the things from now on.
Far Sector has been a really original take on the whole Green Lantern concept. I love the Green Lanterns, so obviously I was going to try this. To make it better, I adore N.K. Jeminsin, so this really was a win-win for me!
Far Sector #2 gave us a better idea of just how complicated this world is, and just how over her head out one Green Lantern is. Or maybe over her head is the wrong term. But there's no doubt that she's got an uphill battle ahead of her.
I loved this issue. It was brilliant and interesting, and the right balance of intensity. I'm really looking forward to the next issue (which comes out on Wednesday!), and with good reason.
!!!!!!!!! Oh, how I love love loved this comic book!!!!!!!!!
I thought the first one was good; a good start, a good set-up for what would hopefully be a good story. But, not enough of the actual story itself to actually turn cartwheels or backflips in excitement. But, now that we’re just a touch more into the actual story, it’s time for all the cartwheels and backflips!!!!
I am loving Lantern Mullein’s relationships. How do I get so lucky as to have a brilliant, empowered, self-possessed, black, pansexual, conceivably polyamorous & certainly sex-positive, fraternizing, emotionally intelligent, competent badass for a superhero? My hero!
Someone finally wrote a superhero I can actually relate to, personally! 🤣😂🤣
Also, unlike with so many superheroes, she actually experiences & expresses emotions, and they are part of her strength and power. I appreciate that as a general statement. Like, women in power don’t have to be emotionless or emulate patriarchal role models in order to be powerful and effective.
As more of the world-building reveals itself, I am (as usual) astonished by NK Jemisin’s worldbuilding skills and her raw creative genius. Carnivorous sentient plants who only eat other intelligent beings that they really really like? What?!?!?!
The humor is delightful. There were several moments that got an audible chuckle from me & many moments that made me smile real big.
And the art is totally swoon-worthy. I especially loved the historical spread and the dancing scene. They both conveyed such rich detail. The creativity and specificity of the former and the incredible nuances of human embodiment in movement in the latter each took my breath away. What a talented artist!
We’re only 2 issues in and I’m already mourning the ending of this series. Yet, I can’t wait for issue 3.

Jemisin is doing a great job fleshing out the world while not slowing down the pace of the story too much. This issue didn't stand out as much as the first one but still kept me interested throughout.
A well written, beautifully illustrated issue. NK is firing on all cycliders. Not enough pages to to explore this fascinating universe. Definitely the best "lantern" story I've read in a while. Great comic SF!
It doesn't have the same meticulous pacing and intoxicating world building of the first issue, but Jo still gives us a great view onto some deeper corners of The City Enduring as a drug epidemic reveals itself and some of the city councilors circle the investigation, their motives and Jo's ability to trust them put in question.
It's building up to be a good mystery, even if this issue doesn't bring quite the punch that the first one did.
I don’t know if it’s just been too long since I read issue 1 or am I just reading too many comics to remember some of them but this issue had me lost. I can tell the last page was supposed to be some “oh damn” moment but I just didn’t get it. The art continues to be amazing tho. I’ll probably go back and re-read #1 and #2.
Jo is great and I’m really intrigued by a society where emotions are muted. I hope we get to explore more of what that has done to to the citizens of City Enduring!
I love that we're getting more detail about the city and the other races. I also love that opening line: My murderer? Just got murdered. Catches us up and brings back the suspense of the 1st comic!
Didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first since the action was more subdued here. I did really like getting to see inside the character a bit more though. The real stand out is how BEAUTIFUL it is to read
This is the best Green Lantern character. Sojourner is funny, ballsy, intelligent, patient, reactive, and just more interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how this murder mystery progresses too.
Also a lot of fun! Another brilliant creation from N.K. Jemisin. I can’t wait to read the next issue. To the author: I’ve loved scifi, fantasy and comic books since I was a kid. It is gratifying to finally be able to see my own point of view in your characters. Thank you.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I really love that this comic issue shows just how complex everything is and how Lantern Mullein could potentially get overwhelmed by things at some point down the line. I also love that despite most of the characters not having emotions, the way that they’re drawn and some of the wording used, the reader can still tell what emotions are being shown.
More character development than anything. This issue gets into the dynamics between Jo and a couple of the other players involved in the murder investigation. Doesn't further the plot much. Campbell draws people really well but some of these backgrounds are confusing.
