The Writing Gals are four sweet romance authors who have created full-time income for themselves by writing to market, and you can too!
This book is a conversation between Judy Corry, Michelle Pennington, Anne-Marie Meyer, and Victorine Lieske. They discuss:
• What writing to market means, and what it doesn’t mean • How writing to market helped their careers • How to find your own passion and turn it into profit • How to find out if your book is already written to market • How to find a hot genre and research within it • How to find ideas that sell • Hot to plot a bestseller • What a trope is and how to use it • How to twist a trope • How to find the tropes in your own genre • How to meet the reader’s expectation while still writing something new and exciting • What to do after you’ve written your to market book
Judy Corry is the USA Today Bestselling Author of YA and Contemporary Romance. She writes romance because she can't get enough of the feeling of falling in love. She's known for writing heart-pounding kisses, endearing characters, and hard-won happily ever afters.
She lives in Southern Utah with the boy who took her to Prom, their four amazing kids, and two dogs. She's addicted to love stories, chai latte's and dark chocolate.
She is represented by Lane Heymont at The Tobias Agency.
Good discussion on writing to market. The format feels more like sitting down and watching a panel at a conference rather than reading a non-fiction book.
I enjoyed this book written in a question/answer style with The Writing Gals giving their opinions and knowledge freely. It truly dispelled some myths about writing to market and gave encouraging advice on how to write for whatever market you want to write to. Encouraging book.
There is a lot of good, practical advice in this book; I did a ton of highlighting. I also really liked the way the authors discussed ideas back and forth, and sometimes even disagreed with one another. Personally, I would have liked to see more examples, and I felt that in some chapters because of the format it was hard to keep track of who was talking. It might have been nice to have a "takeaways" summary at the end of each chapter, so that each author could give a reminder of their key points, or something like that. However, on the whole the book was very useful and good value for the price, and I would be interested in reading other writing books by this team.
Like sitting down with your four cool friends who have broken the code of writing to market and succeeding in an already overrun indie market. This book is a must-read for anyone aspiring to indie publish genre fiction. Well worth buying a print copy of this book to keep on your writer's resource shelf. That's where mine's going. Love these four writers--I'll be checking out their fiction for sure.
This book is kinda overwhelming. I couldn't read it all in one sitting because it gave me so much anxiety and made me feel like a failure, like there's no place for me and my writing. So much contradictory information - write to market, not for passion, but also force your passion into the box of the market and that's the only way to make money. I read this book looking for encouragement, but I'll have to keep looking.
Full of great information to get the creative juices flowing! Great to read as you are planning a new book or series and I love that each of the four authors respond to each question. Lots of great advice for writers!
This was a fast, light read, but there was quite a bit of good information in it. (See highlights.) I especially liked their nuanced consideration of tropes (layering tropes, etc.).
I liked the way it felt as though I was sitting with these women and enjoying a chat over tea. The ideas and information was helpful and their stories inspiring.
