From the author of A Kingdom of Queens. Take Down the Castle is a collection of poetry that is fiercer than ever before. With nods to mental health, feminism, adult behaviour and friendships, it’s not for the feint I’d heart. Bumped up from a quick project to over £150 pages! Included are entries from debut authors Chloe Bailey and Lauren Jade Case. Three girls - one project - break down the walls.
I asked on Twitter for some Indie authors to send me their works and this was the first piece I selected as it really stood out to me. And oh boy...did it deliver! I loved every second of this book. I thought I may be in for some gentle poetry, the type that I could sit back as I listened to the rain to enjoy. Oh no, this book grabbed me by the collar and said, 'Want to go on a ride?' It made me listen, it made me think and feel and relate. In so many ways I could hear the writers voices, I could read a piece and know I have felt that way too, that I have been in the same situation and wanted someone else to relate to it too. From topics of feminism to sex, to mental health, I was truly stunned at the topics these writers touched upon and how real they felt. None of you shyed away from the ugly truth, the rawness of your emotions, the thoughts that plagued your minds in that moment. I could not recommend this highly enough, and I only wish to see something like this on bookshelves for others to read, for both women and men to read and relate to. Fantastic work by fantastic authors.
A fine collection of poems! I was most impressed by the vulnerability and open-ness offered by the poems, especially regarding the sex and bipolar topics. There's some moments that really slap you in the face and other moments that really reflect the beauty of every day life (I feel you Drunk Hannah almost dropping your McDonald's while walking.). Very cute and well done!
