Children sang songs about him and wrote his name on bathroom walls. He became a local celebrity in the town of Shepherds Grove for killing his mother.
After being locked away for more than twenty years, Frankie Boone is on the loose. His mother torments him from beyond the grave, and the entire town of Shepherds Grove is screaming. Boone longs to silence it all, driven by a force he cannot control. With an axe by his side, and the worst storm in over a century moving in, he may get his chance.
Brandon Berntson grew up in various towns throughout Colorado, where most of his stories take place. His work spans from serious, adult horror to playful, young adult fantasy and everything in between. He is the author of Castle Juliet and When We Were Dragons, enchanting, magical reads for all ages. He is also the author of Body of Immorality, a cryptic collection of horror stories, and the raw, adult themed All The Gods Against Me.
He loves art, music, indie films, classic horror films, and hockey. He lives in Longmont, Colorado.
Watch out Michael Myers! 'Boone' is on his way to crack YOUR head open!
So, when I read (and LOVED by the way....) Berntsons 'Hill Haven Creeps' I did not think he could knock me out of the horror park again, He Did!!! Frankie Boone has got to be one of the most horribly abused by his mother serial killer in the making since Norman Bates!!! In fact Berntson said he based one of the characters in the book a bit on Bates himself.
So in the small new england town of Shephards Grove CT. a rainstorm is raging....and I mean RAGING! In 36 hours over 26 inches of rain has fallen. Power is out all over the place, cars and garbage bins are floating down the middle of the streets, stray animals are losing their ways too.....but in the local Mental Hospital, Frankie Boone is planning his revenge, and with no power to stop his slaughter with his trusty pal and friend, a HUGE 2 sided and very very sharp AXE!
Miles Madigan, a local police officer has been obsessed with Boone since he first murdered his mother at the age of 10, and is bound to find Frankie and watch with obsession what he is about to do next. Is Miles just as mad and sick as Boone? You need to read and see. I really loved this foray of the author's into the mind of a sick, (but pretty hot sounding in a sick way! lol) 6.5 foot heavily muscled, and long black haired crazy killer hell bent on getting rid of anything that steps in his way....and let me tell you he does not stop on the body count!!! The reason this did not get a 5 star rating, it had a kind of weak ending. Now that is not saying i did not like what happened at the end, it just could have been written a bit different. Cannot wait to see if there is another book in the horrific saga of Shepherd's Grove or not! Come on, Brandon....do it again! Loved this sick and crazy killer who made Michael Myers look like Alice in Wonderland's 'Red Queen'! 4 Stabby's in my log! Richard
This American Horror Story on steroids. Horrifying detail and explanation after another. You get inside the heads , so to speak of most of the characters. Brandon has written a masterpiece of horror here. Its hard to put down or look away, til you are finished. Go get your Copy today!
Frankie Boone has been in an asylum for 20yrs for killing his mother and now he is out but he is haunted by the voices and axe in hand follows his urge to hurt. Miles Madigan, a Deputy Police Officer has been obsessed with Boone since he was a kid, when he realises he has escaped he does all he can to bring Boone to him, in doing this he slowly loses his mind.
This is an adult horror by the same author and a gore fest for those that like their horror bloody! The story was really cleverly paced, each location was set up, characters introduced, some you really liked, some not at all, little human stories told by ordinary people before Boone turns up and all hell breaks loose, who survives? The deaths are multiple, the method gruesome, the killer relentless, I was thoroughly entertained!
People say years ago Boone did something terrible, but that is all in the past now. Or is it? Was it really that bad? Surely it is so long ago that nobody cares? What will become of Boone? Is he a force of Nature? More fancifully, is he a tool of a wrathful God? Does the idea of God include evil, as proposed by Carl Jung in An Answer To Job? At first this short book seems like a run of the mill horror story, but there is a little more to this novel than that. It gives you a little to think about.
Definitely horror with marginal gore. There was just a single base plot; with only one main character. Normally one comes away from a novel with a point or a message; but this one had no redeeming qualities. I would advise getting attached to any sub-characters; as it doesn’t work out for them. I thought the character developments and scene settings were a little weak. I won’t be reading this again, nor any other works by this author.
I loved this book. From the beginning to the end. Boone killed his Mom. They put him in an insane asylum. Freak storm came through, with lots of rain. Boone left the asylum. Things happened.
I flew through this book in one sitting. Had all the blood and gore a girl could want and need! Boone you end up rooting for even though he wants to put his axe into everything that screams. I hope this author keeps up the horror novels because I’ll keep buying.
A very good read and will keep you intrigued and on the edge of your seat. I would recommend to anyone and think that Brandon Berntson did a very good job of drawing you in. Looking to read more of his work
This was a terrifying read. The main character was both frightening and pitiable. The action just goes on and on. Don't read this on a cold stormy night.
The story has the flavor of your classic horror novel. Had a few unexpected twist. Would be interested to see where Boone goes next. Disappointed in the ending.
