An enjoyable afternoon read with likable characters, more than one ghost to get to know throughout the story and a murder. I love the close family relationships that appear in each of these stories.

A lovely light read, perfect for summer afternoons. I really enjoy Ella and her family. I think the family relationships is what I enjoyed the most in this book. Well, and of course the cat Raisin. When Ben checks on a friend he hasn't heard from he takes Ella with him. What they discover starts the action and ghosts.

Seemed incomplete, but well worth the read!

by Barbara Kelley

Another great episode in the series. This book seemed somewhat incomplete at the end, but it was well worth the read. The only typographical error was the use of the word "confidant" which is reference to a person, when the word should have been "confident" which is a state of mind. This happened twice in the book. The characters, live humans as well as the ghosts, seem extremely real in the way they are described, as well as how they act and react to a situation. There are two ghosts in this episode, much as like in the first book: one from the 1700s and one from the current day.In the first book, one old ghost and one young ghost were murdered by someone close to them, both being killed in the same garden of an inn. In this second book, the ghost from the 1700s was a man who died in the first battle of the Revolutionary war, and his 13-year-old daughter was killed on the same day; while the young man who was murdered in the current day was a Revolutionary War reenactor, who had an extremely large collection of Revolutionary War era antiques and museum-worthy artifacts that were probably worth millions of dollars. This young ghost had a 12-year old daughter whose mother ran away with her, and Joe never got to meet her. Each of the young ghosts from each book were extremely wealthy. The first book did make reference of who would inherit Leo's fortune, but the second book never said what became of Joe's house, the restaurants he owned, or if the Revolutionary War relics and antiques went to a museum, or to specific people. This is why I think there should have been a few pages added to the story, in order to complete the story. Was Joe's daughter ever found? Did Matt inherit the restaurant in Quinsigamond? I still gave this book 5 stars because it was a very good read, even if it was somewhat incomplete.

Soldiers and re-enactments

A good read. The plot is an old. Greed. But the cousins are drawn into the case as they find the body.
Why would someone kill the local entrepreneur? Most people got on well with him and apart from his fixation on the Civil War no-one had a bad word to say. Could it be due to his love life? A divorce and now a broken relationship. Or could it have been caused by money. The man had been a trust fund baby that just got richer or could it be the relics he had from the Civil War. Was he dead before he was hung (his ghost can't tell them who killed him)? Then there is an actual ghost from the Civil War that has been causing problems. Will the cousins find out what is keeping both of the ghosts around? Can the ghosts help in finding the killer and will they then move on?
A nice mix of two different men but with one identical theme running through this well thought out cozy. Whilst the characters are evolving into colourful but good friends.

Murder, Revolutionary War ghosts and re-enactors and witches, what more could you ask for. What is the link between the Revolutionary War ghost and the current murder victim? The history buff gave the story a nice twist. The plot was well crafted and the world building is great. The characters are fun and entertaining. They feel like people you have been friends with for a long time. Highly recommend this mystery to all cozy mystery lovers.

Revolutionary war, then and now.

Ella and Ben find a body when they go to check on Ben's friend Joe. He was a revolutionary war re-enactor with a huge collection of revolutionary war memorabilia. Then they meet Henry, a ghost of a revolutionary war militiamen, who won't cross over but likes to cause trouble. The family has their hands full as they solve both problems.

Another sweet book, the characters are well-defined and different from each other, and I just love how the family is close and have nice moments together.
The mystery was interesting, the investigation always ends with the murderer coming out and declaring guilty, but I still enjoy the reading experience even if there is no way for me to solve it really.

Ella and her extended family share a wide variety of talents. Brother Ben with his Blacksmith shop makes a variety of hinges, tools, and implements, including things favored by war reenactors . Given their New England locations, there are many groups from the Revolutionary and Civil wars

Ella is a professor of American history. Her lectures on cloth and domestic tools used by women seem to be popular.

Their new Police Detective friend Jonas seems to be taking awhile recovering from his injuries from the last case he helped on. Perhaps cousin Colleen can help his transition.

A friend of blacksmithing brother Ben fails you stop by to visit his shop, leaving Ben with an uneasy feeling. In the wake of the sad events that follow, Liam seems to draw closer to the family as well.

An interesting family and friends network in this series so far!
