Peter Ralph is a former ‘big four’ chartered accountant who specialized in corporate reconstructions, recoveries, and liquidations. In the reconstructions, he acted as a surgeon chopping away the excess fat. In the recoveries, he was like a lifeguard giving mouth to mouth. In the liquidations, he was a combination of funeral director and forensic investigator.
As a forensic investigator, Peter spent a large part of his career investigating the reasons for corporate collapses and testifying in the courts.
Later he became CEO of one of his recovery clients, a heavy transport equipment designer, and manufacturer that he successfully floated as a public company.
He has a background well suited to writing financial thrillers. In 2012, he was highly commended in the Fellowship of Australian Writers National Literary Awards, for his novel about unconventional gas, Dirty Fracking Business.
A very good thriller once you understand who is who and what is happening! It took me awhile to get into the story, as we meet many characters in the beginning, but once the action makes sense to you it is a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller with a heck of an ending. An entertaining read as a man from an old 'mob' family makes his part of the family business honest and by the book. His girlfriend works in the world of finance, at a stock broking agency. This story brings the two worlds together in a dangerous situation involving a silent partner of her firm who manages all they do and the people involved. The characters are amazing, with wit and brains together, you are kept wrapped up in all the action and the outstanding plot until the surprise ending. I received an ARC from author Peter Ralph who I thank for such a wonderful read, and I put my thoughts in this review so others may see my enjoyment at reading this one. I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy a good mystery in the business and financial world.
Wow. I sat down to read a couple chapters and next thing I know it is 2am. I was so lost in the book that I did not realize I should have gone to bed hours ago. Tony and Carmen are great characters. I could have kept reading. What a wonderful book. The story was easy to get lost in. The storyline was great. Peter Ralph is a must read author on my list. WOW
I read this book as it was written initially as Collins St. Whores. This time it is a slimmed down action packed version of its former self! The book was totally entertaining this time around, the only things that had stayed with me were th main characters and the final who dunnit. If you like Whodunnits and the world of finance this is a book for you. Simple conspiracy book readers will love it as well.
I enjoyed A Deadly Partner by Peter Ralph.. Tony and Carmen believed in doing what was right although in this twisted White Collar Thriller everyone else were full of greed. They would do anything to accomplish their goal including hurt innocent people like Carmen and Tony... The End was unbelievable who was the Mastermind, after all who would have know....I would recommend this book to all Friends and family.... Thank You Again Peter Ralph Loved this book...
An awesome read with good characters, a love story, and a terrible twist at the end. I am not sure it had a happy ending but some characters live on for a future book. Will watch for it.
Thrilling novel dealing with white collar crime and slimy snakes in the highest levels of business. Fast moving with non-stop action and an ending that will blow you away!
Collins Street Whores starts off very evocatively (for me at least) with a powerful motorbike being ridden along the Dandenong Tourist Road - a hop skip and a jump from our front door. Unfortunately for me, the interest in the story waned pretty soon after that. Overall the plot is fairly good, but there were too many elements in COLLINS STREET WHORES that just didn't work for me. Granted this could be because anything "financial" has a tendency to bring me out in hives, but more so because there were too many characters to just not care about that much. Possibly the idea that the central woman had to be beautiful and strong and competent and rich and driving the big flash car to make her a central character, possibly the relationship between her and the "boy from the rougher side of life" sort of just clanged a bit. Possibly it was because a lot of the plot elements weren't that hard to see coming, but that they took a long time to come could have been the problem.
Collins Street Whores is not a badly written book or anything, I guess, ultimately the problem for me was that it didn't have that something different, that element that grabbed me and held my attention and I just struggled to stay focused on the story.
