Mel doesn't know what to do with reality, so she daydreams of fantastical places. With strong heroines, thrilling plots, and toe-curling romance, she captivates readers with her storytelling. She loves her family, especially Lulu the dog, who mistakenly believes Mel’s job is to be a professional puppy cuddler.
Any attempt to talk about this book could bring spoilers, so I just say that this is an interesting story about Elysa, a human being in a future when humanity has spread out into the galaxy, who adventures into an unknown zone and ends up meeting a sentient being in a planet with reasonable means of life after her spaceship gets damaged by a micrometeorite. The rest of the story is up to you, reader.
A sweet little book, simple and deliberate, this little book was interesting, contemplative, and relaxing. I highly recommend it. Different than most sci-fi stories, I wish it had been longer and I am glad it wasn’t.
**Slight TW** This book does have details of injury but it is not the main feature of this book.
I really enjoyed this story. Braxton introduced a beautiful world, one that quite literally had a mind of its own. Being such a short book (duhh Siobhán it's a novella!), there was certainly a lot put into it. For being so short and having quite a lot if content, the story was still set at quite an easy pace.
I am hoping for more of this world in the future as I'm certainly keen to know more about what happens next. With such an open ending, I could either let my imagination decide or choose to have my fingers crossed for a second full book... I happily choose the latter.
One thing I'd also love to point out is how Braxton had shown the meaning of companionship and trust in this book. Illiam put so much trust into the main protagonist and visa versa. It was truly beautiful.
Definitely worth the read. A captivating story with wonderful movie potential.
An astronaut suffers a major problem with her craft and has to land on a planet. Unknown to her, the planet is actually alive. There had been some kind of war on Earth in the recent past.
Fortunately for her the air is breathable. Unfortunately for her the craft she was in will never work again.
So, she will have to figure out how to survive on an alien planet filled with alien plants and animals. She will also have to deal with planetary telepathy, a cave, predators, message that never seem to get answered and various other difficulties.
It's a good story with an unusual basis, that being a planet that is alive but not hostile.
I sincerely enjoyed reading Illiam. I’m an avid sci-fi reader , from the classics to hard sci-fi. I throughly enjoyed this very well written, thought provoking story. Characters are so well developed with clarity , intellect and emotion. I truly hope there will more of Illiam….there must be , and I’ll be waiting !
Great short story! Not sure why 20 words are required for a review, but here goes,.....Excellent story!! Reminiscent of " The Ship That Sang" by Anne McAffrey. Quick read!!
I’m not sure I expected when I started this story but I quickly was completely caught up in it and could not put it down. Finding and then being separated from someone who was so much a part of you because of a choice you made offers a life’s lesson not to be forgotten!
I was pleasantly surprised with how much depth this story had, despite its length. The conversations between the protagonist and the planet were quite fascinating.
A brief review for a short story: An imaginative tale of a living planet and its interactions with a stranded traveller. Kept me entertained for an hour or so.
Elysa is forced to land her aircraft onto a living planet, Illiam. Together they have a lot to learn. This was not what I was expecting but this was such an unique and interesting novella.
