How did a country broken by one of the bloodiest civil wars in history, find itself running the world only 80 years later?
Who were the individuals behind this dramatic rise and what did they receive in return for their endeavours?
Abraham Lincoln was the man responsible for this grand vision, but with his life being cut short, it was down to his second in command to ensure his dream became a reality.
Follow the trials of Richard D Brown as he struggles to keep Lincoln’s assembled group together, while America pushes forward into a glorious new Gilded Age.
SYNOPSIS: With the Civil War on the brink of culminating, Abraham Lincoln dispatches his right hand man to meet with a group of businessmen who assisted The Union during the fighting. Lincoln realises that to rebuild the country will be the greatest challenge of his life and knows his aim will only be possible with the assistance of those identified – titans in their respective industries of shipping, railroads, construction and finance.
ILLUMINATI: A NEW WORLD ORDER takes the reader from 1865 up until the Panic of 73, via a presidential impeachment, the opening of the Central Depot, the sinking of the Golden Spike and the founding of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as America transforms from a country bursting with potential, yet still broken by war, to a land fully connected by bridges and railroads spanning from east to west and with the foundations of the Brooklyn Bridge being sunk into Manhattan’s East River.
The beginning of the Gilded Age has truly begun and the businessmen identified take every opportunity to exploit their association. Yet while the plan was for the group to work together; the men split to form their own factions, seeking to ruin one another and keep the spoils for themselves. Who will come out on top and win the ultimate prize? For the victors, their family lines will assume absolute control over America for the rest of eternity…
The book was easy to read. It was a mixture of fact and fiction. Real people and events and made up, fictitious people. It made me want to study American history. It was an enjoyable read. It told of how the American infrastructure was created and the powerful men that built these great long railways and bridges with the backdrop of the political scene.
Wow! Interesting read! Fact meets Fiction meets History all rolled into a book that is hard to put down. I am not a history buff but I enjoyed this book. Don’t miss this one, you will be sorry.
I received this ebook from Gooreads Interesting read, I signed up for the five away because I know little about the secret group. This was a start to finding out more of the history.
I like historical fiction novels and and I thought this book was well written and an interesting story. I found the format of putting pictures of the primary characters in each chapter creative and it was helpful, but I have to say for me it still was a little difficult to keep track as the number of characters increased. I would definitely read other books by this author if I knew their identity. I did receive this e-book as a giveaway from Goodreads and I'm glad I did as I enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to others.
Once you start this book you cannot put it down - the book starts in 1865 - USA Abraham Lincoln fascinating detail and amazing flow of history. American history numerous characters - the book is so interesting with a great mix history grips you through and through and with more novels to follow I cannot wait.
A really interesting book which gave a new perspective about the way the world works and has grown. An interesting idea which takes you through different decisions and shines a new light on the world around us.
Excellently written. I could hardly put it down. I considered it a fantastic “historical, political novel”. The characters development excellent and the historical settings described felt as though I was there in that era. If a reader/readers love history, then this is a really great read.

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written Civil War era historical fictional book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great political thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review of it. In a word, I was disappointed in this book. It starts off with much promise in its premise, but then seems more focused on getting to the conclusion rather than creating an engrossing story along the way. The scope of this book could have been a three (or more) volume saga rather than a quick glance at each of the events that make up the plot. The premise of a collection of entrepreneurs secretly organizing to make the US great, and make their own fortunes in the process, is a good one. The parallels with (or loosely disguised versions of) prominent businessmen such as Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Morgan, etc. is a little bit too transparent, but workable, as are the politicians such as Grant and A. Johnson. The development of some of the characters gives them a relatability within the story. My problem with the book was that I felt like I was in a fast-moving train seeing the basics of the scenery, but being past it before I got a chance to study it or get a feel for any of its details. It felt as if the author was more determined to get each of the elements into the story rather than helping the reader to enjoy the journey along the way. There were splashes of more detailed insight, such as the interactions at the art gallery, but even that seemed to fall short of what could have been done. As a reader of novel, I was looking for more depth that I just did not find. Also, while I am not an English teacher, I was distracted by some instances of awkwardness in the language. Examples are: • Chapter 10: “…the Scot spent his time talking to young and old ladies alike, every one of them taking upon his conversation with great pleasure, …” • Chapter 23: “ swiftly greeted by Maria, who had been stood awaiting their arrival, …” • Chapter 40: “Sat, speechless, at the opportunity, Madison took a moment to deliberate the moral conundrum placed before him.” While not a big deal, they distracted from the flow. I did like the introduction to the main characters in the opening and the pictures of them at the beginning of each chapter. This enabled the reader to get right into the flow without too much premise. I realize that this review may seem harsh, but I believe that I owe the author my honest assessment and opinion of the work that was obviously a great effort on his/her part.
This was not a good read. It claims to be fiction as opposed to bring history so I must comment on it as such. The book is set in the years after the civil war. It is about close associates of Abraham Lincoln who come to dominate the U.S. Economy. It is about their association with each other and their rivalries. Much of it is full and uninteresting. The characters are shallow and unappealing. Even the speculation is not plausible but I will not discuss that as the novel is fiction.
I read 35% of this book and found myself unable to continue. This would be good as a part of a documentary with acting and a narrator explaining what is happening and it’s significance as was done on Netflix for the Roman Empire. That was great, this would fit in that set up perfectly, but as a straight up book, it lacks a bit.
While not what I’d expected or hoped for, it wasn’t a total loss. If historical fiction is your thing, I’ll admit it reads well. But I personally had hoped for more insight and understanding of the group as a whole.
I was super excited to receive this book through goodreads. I think the content is a great mix of fiction and history. There were parts of the book which I was loved and loved how the story was written, but other parts fell flat for me. The history aspect is great and inspiring to continue to learn.
I felt the book moved a little slow. I was intrigued by the storyline and wanted it to keep me motivated to turn each page but to me it fell flat. It gets a three star rating for this reason.
