This gorgeous oversized book allows readers to marvel at many of Earth's wonders as it takes them to all the continents and all across the globe. Divided into four large sections, Physical Earth, Life on Earth, Earth Regions, and Human Planet, the book contains colorful maps and snippets of information and interesting facts about various places, species, and behavior, all of which will result in readers' marveling at the diversity of life on this wonderfully unique planet of ours. After leaving readers awash in awe, the final pages are rather sobering as the author ponders the threats to our planet as well as whether there is life somewhere else. I even loved the cover with its scooped out letters that show Earth's natural beauty as well as a pastoral setting with a small town's buildings. Perfect for browsing and dipping into at will as well as reading straight through, this title would certainly be ideal for a science classroom library at any grade level.
I didn't read the entire book. It's pretty text heavy. It would be okay for middle grade students but seems ideal to be used as a reference book rather than read straight through. The illustrations are great. There are some pages about evolution, which I am fine with, but I would preread to see how the author presents it before handing this over to my kids in a few years.
Lots of info, cool pictures. Evolution is sprinkled throughout. The information was interesting but I sometimes wondered how they decided what facts/things to include.
