Op haar zesentwintigste studeerde ze af in Culturele Studies, met als hoofdvak Nederlandse Taal- en Letterkunde, aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Ze woont met haar kinderen Linde en Goof in Amsterdam en is getrouwd met journalist Onno Aerden. Ze beschouwt spiritualiteit en literatuur als haar grootste passies.
Toen ze in 2000 een artikel schreef over moderne heksen werd ze gegrepen door het fenomeen. In het jaar dat volgde, deed ze research naar de geschiedenis van deze eeuwenoude religie, stortte zich in rituelen en leerde werken met magie en kruiden. Uiteindelijk liet ze zich inwijden als heks. Over haar ervaringen schreef ze het boek Heks. Een magische reis door de westerse spiritualiteit, dat in 2001 uitkwam.

Fijne schrijfstijl, maar niet zo'n interessant verhaal.

I didn't even finish this book, that is how uninteresting it was for me. I totally adored her first book, "Heks", which is incrediby different from this one!
It doesn't have to be for other people though, just make sure you have the right expectations. I was hoping to read an inspirational book about how to combine modern living in the city with spirituality....instead I got short columns in which viewpoints were presented that I completely don't agree with (and no, I'm not a goth witch, I actually love fashion).

It was ok.
Susan Smit knows how to write and is capable to make most things interesting to read.
But if I had to tell you what this book is about, I just couldn't.
It doesn't really have a topic.
It's more about how she thinks about different things, from fashion to having baby's.
For me it was not an interesting book.
