This is my new favorite Christmas romance so far this year!! So many happy tears! This story is a magical sorta very loose re-telling of "A Christmas Carol" though there are no ghost we do have someone (Daniel) whom has completely lost the spirit of Christmas. He is visited by a self claimed magical spirit who offers him 3 wises. The story unfolds in such a way that I was dreading the ending... but what I thought was to be the end was actually just the beginning. I freely admit I cried like a baby by the end and am damn proud I did! LOL

Daniel, the invisible, has truly lost his Christmas spirit. He's trudging through life with a job he hates, lies to his parents and dreads the Christmas family get together. Add in an odd encounter in a store line with Cass, a flat tire and a fake boyfriend for the holiday and you've got a sweet Christmas story that is full of magic and Christmas spirit.

1) To bring a boyfriend home for Christmas.

2) For it to snow on Christmas Eve.

3) Undecided...

Those are Daniel's answers when the guy, who's changing his flat tyre, asks if he had three Christmas wishes what would they be.

Daniel's lost his childhood Christmas Spirit. With a job he hates, he should be happy for the time off to spend with his family during the holiday season. But he's exhausted with his family. They treat him like a kid, especially his brother whose side remarkes have surpassed passive aggressive; it's basically just aggression. I honestly wanted to climb through my kindle and fight him. Daniel is tired of being the black sheep of the family.

As if it couldn't get any worse, Daniel's care gets a flat tyre on a lonely country road and he's left stranded with a dead phone. Lucky motorcycle riding Cass stops to help him change his tire and get him back on the road.

When Cass Lautun (I'll let you decode that one) shows up at Daniel's house determined to fulfil his wishes, Christmas just got a bit more magical.

__
Making The Naughty List is a fun magical Christmas read, even though Daniel's meekness and the way his family treated him did get frustrating. The epilogue is really sweet!

It's even better the second time around. Just as I said after reading it the first time, it's so darn cute. But it's also magical. And hopeful and so full of the Christmas spirit that I want Christmas now. I love Daryl Banners writing and this book shows off every single thing I love with it.

I loved this book! It's a rainmaker-style romance, in which a 30-year-old man, unhappy in just about all areas of his life, meets a handsome stranger in a supermarket and gets a chance for a Christmas miracle. The story is sweet, irreverent, warm, and utterly charming. It's also sexy and, in a couple of places, deliciously hot. The hero of this book, Daniel, is a wonderful character with whom I fell in love immediately and with whom I found myself identifying fairly strongly. The other leading character, Cass, is equally wonderful. The supporting cast--mostly Daniel's large family--is nicely drawn.

There are moments of genuine transcendence in this book, which I wasn't really expecting. At the end I was surprised by how moved I was. So while this is basically a fun, slightly naughty, very quick read, it's also a worthwhile story of being true to who you really are: of becoming comfortable with your identity and of self-actualization. A lovely upbeat and truly magical book, perfect for me to close out 2022.

‘Daniel was used to being invisible’

Author/composer Daryl Banner graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Theatre and Psychology. His writing includes M/M romance, post-apocalyptic fantasy, and dystopian tales. According to his brief biography he is ‘most inspired by the smart and unlikely hero, but urges you (the reader) not to fall in love with them; they may deceive you with their innocence.’

The difference, or at least one difference in Daryl’s books – and there are now many of them – is that in addition to managing the erotica arena he adds sufficient character psychology to make his players not only interesting and exceptionally physically attractive, but also variations on extremes of social behavior. Now to celebrate the Christmas season he delivers a fine new romance that blossoms despite barricades and differences

MAKING THE NAUGHTY LIST manages to make us all believe in ‘Christmas miracles’ as we meet Daniel, a man who never believed in Santa Claus or miracles, until while Christmas shopping for his family he encounters Cass: ‘Rugged, handsome, brawny, beautiful – the words barely touched how astonishingly gorgeous the man was in every way. His striking face was instantly punishing to the heart. Stunning at first glance. So good-looking, it hurt to gaze on him. The man had an immediately and permanently impressive air about him…He wore nothing on top but a loose white tank, which hung off a tapered, muscular from. His broad, tanned chest was dusted with dark hair, and his arms were thick and veiny with cored muscle. And atop his head sat a Santa hat…’

This is one sparkling and erotic romance tale, as Daryl summarizes – ‘Sweet, humble, soft-spoken Daniel always tried to be a good person, despite the hell his family put him through every Christmas. But when he meets the hot and cocky bad boy Cass who crashes his holiday weekend with the family, Daniel learns what it's like to break all the rules, live dangerously, and proudly make Santa's "naughty list". ‘

What a holiday treat! Read this one twice for all the character details – and become a frequent Banner flyer!

Key phase that sums up the whole story, “Believe in the magic of Christmas!” A great read for the holidays. And I loved the epilogue of 15 years later. So sweet.

Daryl Banner wrote the perfect Holiday novella with Making the Naughty List. Giving the beleaguered Daniel Irving the necessary push to want more out of life, his timely encounter with Cass Lataun (clever name! for you fans of word games) could not have been more welcomed. With sharp wit and subtle innuendos, Banner gives Daniel and Cass the fuel to their burgeoning fire with the right amount of hope and joy mixed in. I just loved how Daniel finally found the courage to come clean with his parents and himself as Cass burrows his way into his heart in only a matter of days.

With a bit of Christmas magic, disappointment at the realization that Cass may have only been a figment of Daniel's imagination, the way the story unfolds at it's conclusion was nothing short of wonderful.

A truly sweet story with the right amount of steam, Making the Naughty List is about never giving up and finding that wishes can come true when you least expect it.

5 miraculous stars!

SANTAS GAY?!?!?! Every thought about what it would be like if Santa was gay. If Santa was a hot, pure, young, unadulterated man. What if Santa was actually a bad boy. We all try to get on Santa’s nice list, but if Santa was a hot muscular bad boy, wouldn’t you wanna get on his naughty list! This book reminds me of a concept of Hot Santa meets Genie from Aladdin. A magic elf comes and helps get good boy to be bad. Gives him three wishes. The last wish doesn’t set the genie/elf free. The last wish sets himself free. We all have good and evil inside us all the time. The internal battle to be good with a side of bad is what makes us all feel alive. So I have one question for you….. naughty or nice?

Making the Naughty List wasn't quite the light-hearted fun holiday read I expected- it was actually a little bit of a heartwrencher for me. But there was sweetness mixed in with the heartache, and in the end it did give me the hea I craved for Daniel. And the epilogue had me smiling all the smiles, and maybe even shedding a happy tear!

"Maybe the point of living is to make the naughty list, not keep off of it." I need to make a sign of this quote as a reminder for the coming year!

Re-read this sweet, hot HEA Christmas story and so enjoyed it.

I was initially doubtful about the fake boyfriend/partner premise. But this story makes it not only fresh but necessary.

I re-read this because it is genuinely a feel-good story and has so many "feels" and I wanted both again. And I did cry, several times because it is genuinely sweet and tender and loving.

May we all have our Cass Lataun!

The writing in this is utterly ridiculous. (What does a virile chest even look like???) Nothing makes any sense here. The characters are very flat. And on top of that, there’s some pretty serious consent issues here.

A holiday must read

Daniel, an introvert who kinda lets people walk all over him. Cass, a touch bad ass biker. Their worlds collide, was it by chance or on purpose. I absolutely loved, loved, loved this story. I must admit a needed a tissue or two. A holiday must read.

3.5 🎄🎄🎄Christmasy Stars

Ohhh the weather outside is frightful...especially for Daniel on his way to his parents house for Xmas. He might have met a naughty Angel who worked out some of his issues...I mean really gave them a good pounding..

Its cutsy & quick, just enough to drag you into a slightly festive mood.

Now that is what I'm talking about: Christmas. Magic. That little, magic element made this book so much more enjoyable because it unlocked what's in the heart of every Christmas lover, adult or child the world over: that tinnie, tiny part of you that still believes. And sprinkling that little bit of magic over a story like this worked wonders.

It's my first book from this author but I think I'm a fan. I enjoyed his writing immensely and I think it's fair to say that this reads like a script. It should be a short film; I can see every location, I can imagine the setting and the landscape and I haven't even been to Texas. But if there's guys like Cass Lautun (g0t the anagram?) riding around on motorbikes, doing all sorts of miracles - and not just with his mouth! - then Texas is where I'm heading, y'all!

I found the pairing of the timid, lonesome Daniel with the cocky Cass a treat. There's something about a nice person getting what they deserve - figuratively and literally ;) - that's very moving and you can't help but root and feel for Daniel from the very beginning. He might come across a little bit miserable and sad but we don't 'hear' him complain; he's given up and that's even sadder. He's in desparate need of a miralce.

And he gets a very sexy one in the form of stud Cass, which based on the extremely elaborate and thorough descrptions of his anatomy, is a hot specimen of a man. Yes, we get it, he has muscles. And big shoulders. And a gift of an ass. I found the exaggeration of adjectives just a tad too much, but it didn't stop me from sighing with pretend annoyance. Don't let all that muscle fool you though; he's hiding the heart of a life coach under those shirt-tight pecs and comes with all sorts of inspiring and confidence inducing quotes that work wonders for someone like Daniel.

You can kinda see where this is going halfway through, which adds an element of melancholy I didn't see coming. It doesn't last long but it gives the story an almost twist, an "and now what?..." moment that gets you more engaged. And on the other end, you've got so many LOL moments, which is why this gets my very limited edition five stars: it is a funny book. A refreshingly funny book with wit is not something I've come across that often in my M/M books journey. It had me laughling hard at those awkward sex scenes and the line "I was just ravishing your son" is just genius; almost too good to be in a book!

So if I haven't made it clear yet, I loved this. It's sweet, romantic, hot, sexy, festive, sexy, funny and it puts you in the right mood for, perhaps, a very special Christmas Eve and an even better Christmas morning. Highly recommended; will definitely be checking some of his others book, because I think I might have just found my favourie M/M writer.

Christmas comes early for Daryl Banner's readers this year! Making the Naughty List was like a mix between National Lampoons Christmas meets Scrooge from the Christmas Carol. In this newest novella we meet soft spoken, bahumbug Daniel who gets some Xmas miracles in the sexy, "fake boyfriend" Cass. And WARNING: Grandma won't be the only one blushing this Xmas. But like all, I highly recommend Daryl Banner and his M/M romances!

“Did you know,” Cass asked, enthused, “that the moment you voice a wish and let it out of yourself, it begins its little journey of someday becoming true?”
And it was time for Danny to get on Santa's Naughty List...“You’re already taking back your childhood points with Santa. Earning the coal in your stocking. I like that.”

Daryl doesn't disappoint his readers in his newest work, creating characters that are so real and wonderful. Even his minor characters like Daniel 's family or even the grandmother in the store are so full of life in his stories, too.

What Danny said abt Xmas ..."It was never really about wish lists and wrapping paper and … things. It was about Santa. It was about the spirit in the air. It was about giving, and watching the light sparkle in someone else’s eyes. It was about the colorful Christmas lights, the gingerbread houses, the sleigh bells …” made me feel young again. And so excited for the upcoming holiday.

“You don’t have to let life interrupt these beautiful feelings inside you. Let this magic be your life.”

Daniel has been feeling invisible with his family at Christmas for years. Doesn't really want to go this year. His sister has two kids and they barely talk even in same house. His brother talks down to him and can't commit to marrying the woman that mothered his child even though they together. His parents think he's happy with his job when he's miserable. But he don't want them to worry so doesn't tell truth.

In the store he meets Cass who cuts in front of him and even pays for his groceries right to the exact penny. Later on the road to his parents Daniel has a flat tire and Cass stops to help him. Daniel is asked to make some wishes he thinks it is load of hooie, but he makes two then an off the wall one. Well the first one comes true with him getting a boyfriend for Christmas and it's Cass showing up at his parents' saying that they are dating.

It was fun and awesome. There was even a wish for snow on Xmas eve which came true. I was shocked at the twist though. There is one and I want give away what it is. I was so stunned and trying to figure out what happened. The ending was perfect and Daniel got his third wish as well. Really was great Xmas read and the sex was hot especially with family downstairs. I hope that Daryl will come out with more Xmas books.

I honestly don't know how I feel about this......it was silly and fun, but also.....not satisfying? But also, it hit me in the feels because I completely related to Daniel and his family drama, but not necessarily his timid nature. I found myself smiling a lot, but I think it's more the ending that kinda left me feeling unsatisfied.

Daniel is a timid man who has always done the right thing and continues to be walked over by his family and boss. In a chance meeting in the supermarket by an incredibly hot man, Daniel finds himself swept up in some Christmas Wimsey with him. Cass comes in to rescue Daniel and try to bring back the Christmas Spirit and get him to see that he can live a little, make mistakes, and still be good, even when being a bit naughty.

This was a bit silly, but fun and it did wrap you up into a warm blanket of Christmas feels. It was a good read that I enjoyed up until the end. There was just something about it that made me feel off.

A perfect and quick holiday read filled with magic, chemistry, and the chaos of spending the holidays with your family. A fake boyfriend situation with some hilarious one liners that had me laughing out loud. The story itself happens over 3 to 4 days during Christmas and ends with an epilogue 15 years in the future. Daniel is feeling pretty invisible and insignificant when it comes to his family until Cass comes around. Cass is just the type of guy Daniel needs in his life. Cass provides Daniel with some new perspective. When Cass reveals a little something something about himself, I automatically knew the direction the author was going in and I loved it. It's a storyline/plot twist I haven't seen in awhile. This was just a great, fun, holiday read; however, I had one small issue was left unresolved in relation to Daniel's career.

Danny is a pushover. A quiet guy that is overlooked, forgotten, walked on, invisible. On his way to the family homestead to celebrate a family Christmas, he meets a stranger in a grocery store who "pays it forward" and buys his basket of chocolate candy gifts for his niece/nephews. The two meet again when Danny becomes stranded with a flat tire and low phone battery and Cass, our Santa hat wearing stranger asks him, if you had three wishes, what would you wish for. Thus starts an amusing Christmas adventure that hints at both Dickens "A Christmas Carol," and the famous Jimmy Stewart movie "It's a Wonderful Life," and Danny learns to speak up and be a little naughty and ask for what he wants. Cute tale perfect for the Christmas season, or even now as the summer is about to start.

I don’t know if it was the packaging or the blurb but when I bought this read. I honestly expected a fluffy, little silly piece of floss. Surprise, what I got was probably the sweetest Christmas/holiday story I’ve read this season. It had an excellent Christmasy feel. There is a bit of whimsy and magic but not enough to overwhelm the story. The best surprise was when the hot booty happened I expected the rest of the book to be lite porn, no substance - amazingly it didn’t work that way. So I give this writer a big Yahoooo for not trying to overwrite. The epilogue which really to me was just delicious and had substance.

Holiday fun!

Daniel is not looking forward to Christmas at his parents. His grandparents do not accept he is gay, he has lied about how great his job is to his parents, his big brother is condescending, and the sister he was once close to has drifted away. When a chance meeting with a hot guy brightens his day, he feels ready to take on the holiday.

A sweet slightly magical romance. I liked how the mystical aspect was entwined in the story. Plenty of humor and heat to round out the book. A great sweet read.
